Used to love it when it was Mo's a Place for Steaks and continue to love it as Prime 47. As for atmosphere, it doesn't get any better. From the friendly hosts, the hard-working wait staff, to the ever-present live piano music, this is definitely one of the places to see and be seen, just ask the Pacers! And the food? Definitely one of the better steaks in downtown Indy, but don't stop there. Try the seafood as well, you'll love it. read more

I suggested this location to my sister for her 27th birthday after I held a 45th birthday celebration for my fiance at Prime 47 in Carmel. Because we had such a great experience at the Prime 47 Carmel location, I was looking forward to visiting the downtown location. Unfortunately, we didn't get the same stellar service. Our dinner reservations were scheduled for around 8/830 on a Friday and our party was a bit behind. Due to our tardiness I felt our whole experience was compromised. The service was a bit slow ( took about an hour to get cocktails for the table ) and rushed . After our drink orders were finally taken we were informed that the kitchen was about to close and we needed to hurry and get our orders in. We had a table of 12/13 guests and only one server and a server assistant. Maybe the server was a little overwhelmed with the size of the party or, maybe he just had a long night. But, he was rude, and I'd much rather the server's assistant be our line of communication and service for that night. He, on the other hand, was patient, attentive and timely when it came to meeting our needs for the night. At the end of dinner I felt inclined to not only inform the manager of what a great job our server's assistant did but also share a brief review of our server. When I approached the manager initially, and shared my experience she briefly responded "OK" and smiled . She seemed unapologetic and unintrigued by the praise that I gave the server's assistant and the complaints I shared about the server. I confided in the rest of the party and told them what I had just experienced with the manager. At this point, another attendee felt the need to speak with the manager as well. We entered the restaurant and the manager, her name was Lisa, was sitting at the bar parlaying with another group of guest, drink in hand. If only our birthday dinner could've had that same warm welcome or small portion of attention she was showing this other party, then there wouldn't be any need to write this review . After the second conversation she was still unapologetic. She offered no sympathy or solution but instead turned the blame on our party . "Well first of all your party was 1 hour late", was her excuse. I honestly would've rather gotten turned away for being late instead of spending $1500 at a restaurant and receiving subpar service. We were really looking forward to this dinner and needless to say we will not be back at this location ! read more

I got the Chilean sea bass and it was cooked perfectly--absolutely delicious! Also had the crab cake as an appetizer which was hands down the best crab cake I've ever had. The service was AMAZING. The restaurant knew my boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary the night we ate there and they went above and beyond. They surprised us by printing out a special menu that said 'Happy 4th Anniversary!!' at the top... Plus took our photo, printed it out, framed it, and gave it to us--all during dinner. Such a disappointing experience. Waiter was very unfriendly, I don't think he ever smiled & he certainly never engaged in conversation. We also were not checked on after our orders were delivered. I ordered Sea Bass, usually a major treat. This fish was fishy & served in a white fishy puddle. Certainly not even close to worth the price, I've had better Sea Bass at every other restaurant I've gone to. Steak was fine. But I guess since we didn't order drinks, appetizers or side dishes we weren't worth checking on, even tho we were there pretty early & the place was nearly empty. One of the best steak houses I've ever dined at. Managing Partner Brad and his team offered our business group of 40 people first class service and a phenomenal meal from hors d'oeuvres to dessert. Even with our group's set menu, the staff was quick to respond to any request launched by my particular table of 8. The prosciutto wrapped scallops were hands down the best I've ever ever had and our table of rather sophisticated palettes ordered even more. The filet was seasoned and cooked to perfection with a savory peppered crust. Delicious sides as well. And dessert, a plate-sized chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream, was topped with warm chocolate fudge at our table; again, just one wasn't enough for our table and the staff was quick to bring a second! We do enjoy treating ourselves to the finer restaurants in Indianapolis. This evening we treated our friends to dinner and a concert, our first visit to this new restaurant... Seated on time at 6:15 w/ reservations as they were at full capacity with a live pianist playing seasonal music.. Prime 47 set the bar... as It is ties w/ 2 others and will be on our list of favorites.!! The food was divine.. Our service was top notch.. The steaks were flavorful, tender, perfectly seasoned and melt in your mouth delicious. (Delmonico Ribeye's & Dry aged, bone in Filet's) Oh my..!! The scallops were large tender and very flavorful. The sides were surprisingly over sized portions in their own serving dish and soo tasty. Our table was kept by 2 service specialist's & management thru-out our visit & all conversation was fun and friendly, ...we did have a few laughs. We had reservations for a party of 10 @730 when our party somehow grew to 16. At a very busy time, Troy the general manager somehow worked it where we could bring all 16. Then the restaurant gave our 16 guests unprecedented service and food. The night was magical and the bill was very large but worth every penny. None of it would have happened without Troy. When traveling to Indy we will not be dining anywhere else but Prime 47. Just a heads-up if you are inclined to dine at Prime 47 downtown, do so on a night the piano player is off! Otherwise you will expose your auditory senses to an uncomfortable decibel level rendering you unable to converse with your table companions 60 feet from the piano. Evidently management has counseled the pianist regarding her propensity to pound the keyboard instead of gently ticking the ivories. Unfortunately she believes she is the "show" and not the accompaniment (or perhaps she is a stakeholder in the restaurant). In either case I will vote with my wallet and spend future discretionary dining dollars at another premium steak house whose mission is not only to serve delicious food by an attentive staff but in a decibel friendly environment. When I hear that either the piano or piano player has been removed or permanently muffled I will return for another attempt at dinner and euphoric conversation. read more

My experience at prime 47 was not what I expected. The food is very good, The fillet one of the best I've had ever, but unfortunately my service was not up to par. I got there a little ahead of the rest of my party and was seated and I had to wait 15 minutes and actually call down a server just to get a glass of wine. The water service was right there as I sat down and he was very polite but after that I was ignored - with full tables on either side of me-no one in the wait staff would look at me or pay any attention to me and that really distressed me. After I finally called down the server I did get a drink and the rest of the evening I have to say the service was mediocre. This won't be on my list of "let's get back there right away " restaurants. The sad part is I was so excited about going there read more

We had my Mother's 70th birthday party dinner in the President's Room. Perfect! We had 9 people at the round table and it was delightful. The staff worked with me to order appetizers and sides and then put a reduced salad and entree menu together. They even let us bring in our own cake - and sliced it and brought it in with candles. The piano player sang Happy Birthday. It was a very special evening. The staff was very attentive and prompt. I also had a glitch with the time. I apparently put 7:30 down on my contract and we actually arrived at 6. They took it in stride and got the appetizers going, brought in the selected wine, and took our bar drink orders. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Indianapolis. Their martini with blue cheese olives is to die for and there cosmopolitan is great too. Salmon was delicious and the delmonico rib eye was cooked to perfection. The lobster Mac and cheese was delicious, as usual. Our waitress, Catherine, was attentive and friendly. Kind of disappointed. Normally get great service when we eat at the Carmel location. Went this Wednesday for our monthly team dinner. Since we were downtown we normally go to st Elmo's but decides to try this location since st Elmo's was full. The menu was limited that night so not as many choices. There was white debri on what of the appetizer/ bread plate. Don't know if it was good or lump of dishwasher soap. Our bread didn't come till after our appetizers came. Service could have been faster. I had the waygu 12 oz steak ordered a medium came a little over cooked. My colleague ordered the ahi tuna and it was way over cooked and burnt in the outside. The waiter barely checked in on us and was too focused on a bigger table. I don't think we got the same service as other tables did. Overall not bad, but disappointing for an upscale restaurant when you spend 700 dollars for dinner... we will probably go to the Carmel location next month... read more

This is a solid Indy steakhouse that checks off every item for a fancy date night. When our first choice for our 5 year anniversary had a long wait, we turned to Prime 47 to save the day. There were plenty of open tables at 6:30 on a Saturday night, but the place began to fill by 7:30. The service from valet to wait staff was exactly what you would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. We both enjoyed a couple of cocktails, but the wine list was also impressive. My wife had a garden salad with a superb blue cheese dressing, while I enjoyed a lobster bisque that is only bested by Capital Grille. We both ordered steaks (Delmonico ribeye and New York Sirloin) that we're prepared to order and were incredibly flavorful. We also ordered the Bacon & Sriracha Mac N' Cheese (I enjoyed, but too much for my wife) and the Jalapeño Au Gratin Potatoes (she enjoyed while I skipped). For dessert, we could not pass up the Handsome Eric's Cookie which was a half-baked chocolate chip cookie topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce drizzled on at the table. My wife also enjoyed an espresso while I tolerated a Lemoncello (my first time trying). Overall, the food and staff were wonderful and what we'd expect at this price point. The atmosphere is more contemporary than private, but the large windows provide a great view of downtown Indianapolis. read more

Was there last night for dinner. I ordered the 12 oz. filet, requested it to be butterflied and cooked to medium. It came out not butterflied and rare in the middle. The waiter nicely took it back to the chef and brought back the same piece, still not butterflied and was a medium rare. Is this common practice? If someone is willing to pay $52 for a piece of meat, shouldn't it be one of the best they've ever had? I would expect a new filet. read more

The absolute best steak I've ever eaten. Started with a huge portion of calamari with rock shrimp and meatballs. Both dishes were absolutely excellent and certain worth the money. The lobster bisque soup was delicious and something I would definitely get if I went back. As a table, we got the 12oz Wagyu Filets, regular 8oz filet, and the Wagyu with Ahi Tuna combo. Let me state again that this was the absolutely best steak I've ever eaten. I ordered mine Pittsburgh style which essentially means charred and well seasoned on the outside while still being rare on the inside. You could cut it with a butter knife it was so tender and juicy. We all shared the amazing lobster Mac and Cheese--even lactose intolerant people should try it. The service was great, the cocktails strong, and the piano player excellent. Topped it off with a complimentary half-baked cookie with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. Will definitely be back!! read more

Apparently going on a Friday night is a mistake here. Service was particularly slow. Took more than 15 minutes to take our drinks orders then another 15 to get them. Waiter was less than friendly. He had a helper who was great but unfortunately was not in charge of our table. Caesar salad looked worse than a McDonald's salad. Entree and side came out cold and had to be taken back. Once actually warm it was good, but we were already lost at that point. Bill came and not even an apology for the service and bad food, much less a complimentary drink or dessert which is customary with these sorts of matters. Was here on 12/06/14 , had a 5pm reservation. Place was packed with Ohio State people. When I spend 500.00 on dinner I do not want to be in sports bar. They were yelling and shouting the whole time. One of them (drunk) bumped into our table and knocked a glass of water over. I understand that you can only do so much to control your clientele , but his was out of control. We came here for a family dinner. I do not feel like I was in a high end restaurant. If it was not for the fact we had the circus to go to in 2 hours we would have left. read more
