Today at around 11:20AM The receptionist that works here told my Endondontist office over the phone that she will email a Direct Referral form to the office email. The email was never sent. Afterabout 20 mintues, the Endodontist attempted to call the repectionist about 5 times but there was no answer. I called about 7 times but there was no answer. I finally drove to Prime dental care in person which was about 10 minutes away. I found out that the receptionist never emailed the form, and went to lunch without saying anything to the other employee. The person that was covering the recpetion desk wrote the form and gave to me within 5 minutes. I called the Endodontists office and let them know I got the referral form, due to this taking too long my treatement was rescheduled for next Wednesday. My appointment was at 11AM. The phone call between the offices happend at 11:20AM. I got to Prime dental care at 12PM. I was told at 12:10PM that the Doctor can no longer treat me today due to lack of time. Thanks to the recpetionist here deciding to ignore calls and go to lunch my root canal treatement will have to wait 5 more additonal days and I will have to take more time off from work. When I left the office I saw the receptionist that went to lunch in her car eating. I told her I had to come in person to get the form since she did not keep her word earlier. She did not even had the decency to say anything back. She just looked at me with this stupid deer in the headlights look. I reccommend not going here. I cant say anything about the Doctor, but the two people that work at the office are dangerously incompetent. read more

So i used to be a regular to this office and the Doctor and receptionist have always been friendly with me but i lost benefits during covid and had to take time away from dental work until everything picked back up again. I had to switch to another network and dentist and let me tell you i am very confused to why Dr Shim did what he did when i was his patient....He gave me fillings and deep cleaning before and they all took HOURS long to do so.....i never understood why but i went though with it...Since getting new dentist my new dentist 5 star Yelp recommended Dentist at that (VERY POPULAR VERY 5 STAR GREAT DENTIST) she only took about 20-30 mins to do each thing where Shim used to take hours......So something is way off here....i do not understand but ill stick to my new dentist.... read more

Do not come here! This dentist is a scam! I visited this dentist back in August in search of placing a crown. I currently have company dental insurance but upon showing it to this dentist, he told me that my insurance was bad and it does not cover anything. Since he was the dentist, I trusted him and decided to pay out of pocket for this procedure; it ended up being $940 for one crown placement. After this I decided to look into my dental coverage and turns out this entire procedure is covered by my insurance! In fact, if I went through insurance I would have only have to pay $250. I also wanted a copy of my treatment confirmation agreement form but did not give it to me until 2 months later. To make matters worse, the area I had my procedure is still very painful and I cannot eat without pain. This dentist is not only a scam but also very incompetent. Do not come here. I work at a local dental laboratory. A few years back, we did some work for Dr. Shim. He wasn't satisfied so he stopped using our laboratory. Around June of this year, he asked us to work on a dental case for him and I felt he was giving us another chance and we will do it better this time. Never will we accept cases from him anymore. Attempted to collect by sending notices by mail. Also left messages. I called from cell phone one day and his assistant answered and said she'll make sure payment is mailed. This is my one go to dentist. Dr. Shim is the only one I can trust with my teeth. While other dentists tried to rip me off with non existent cracks in my teeth, Dr Shim was honest enough to tell me I just need quick cleaning. It's a little far for me now, but I still come here because it's the only place I trust. read more

Nice and clean office and very pleasant staff. They couldn't help me with what I needed to have done but I would recommend them based only on the nice and knowledgeable staff and the honesty of the Dentist knowing his limits and not taking me on as a patient just to make money. I gave 5 stars mainly based on the honesty of the Dentist. However I do not have any experience with regards to having any dental work done at this office. But they seem to be fully capable and they were recommended to me by someone who has had dental work done there and she had a 5 star experience!! read more

Over changes and bad service. I have dental insurance but I paid $200 for deep cleaning. Also, they told me filling is $85 each with my insurance!! All other dental offices are not charged for deep cleaning & filling for only $15. This place is a riff off and I feel hurt my teeth, after a visit here. read more

Had two crowns installed by Mr Shim (dentist). Afterwards, the gums started bleeding and I had lots of pain because there was a large gap between teeth where the food would get stuck. Went back to the dentist and he prescribed some mouth rinse and said things were ok. The pain and bleeding continued unabated and this prevented me from eating regular meals. Finally to seek relief, I ended up at the AAVA Dental offices in Fullerton where the dentist removed these crowns and replaced them with new and correctly fitting crowns. Mr Shim has proved himself incompetent in specifying the crowns and even more so in failing to recognize the problem afterwards...he just did not care. The cost: Lost time, the cost of 2 crowns (about $1600 give or take) and pain. Too bad I could not choose zero stars as a rating. Go to AAVA dental if you need a real dentist who knows what's going on. read more

Fraudulent and abuse of charges ! They charged me 58 dollars for a visit though my insurance said office visits are zero dollars for dentists within the network. And the doctor did nothing for me other than poke in my mouth with a mirror. NO xrays were taken, no questions were asked. He just gave me meds for the swelling. I went next door to the Dentist of Buena Park and got a full X-ray ( panoramic, digital and for the infected tooth ) on the same day and was charged zero dollars! If you want to get ripped off then come here for mediocre care . I am filing a grievance with my insurance against them and getting my money back. Ripping people off in the middle of a pandemic is so unethical and immoral. Read the bad reviews for this dentist, they all have something in common! The dentist overcharges and have people write the reviews probably. I do not know for sure. But I have never seen a dentist who says " I'm not going to take an X-ray, but come back later . Oh btw pay me 58 dollars for me standing here talking to you for 5 minutes!" STOP ripping people off! I'm very happy I chose Prime Dental after just having my first two visits there last month. The staff and doctor I met were friendly and the vibe of the place is more spa-like rather than being a sterile office, a pleasant ambience. I'm definitely going to continue going there and would recommend Prime to anyone who is looking for awesome dental care For my first visit, I walked in and was greeted by a dental assistant who gave me forms to fill out. The forms were ready on a clipboard that was already placed on the desk before I got there, which gave me an impression of them being organized and having care to think ahead. I had full mouth X-rays taken with their modern digital equipment, so in real-time I could see my teeth appear on a screen in front of me, which was cool! I then met the doctor who introduced himself and my first impression was that he was very genuine. He asked about any problems I had and was informative in answering questions. I felt like a person he cared about rather than just being another patient on the list. We did the exam and talked about what procedures that would be useful for me. He was very informative and honest in his process when he could have easily recommended things I may not have needed for a higher bill. (It has been 2-3 yrs since my last visit and I knew I would need some work done) The work done was preparing a crown (it was completed the 2nd visit), 2 fillings, and a scaling/root planing (a more intense cleaning). His touch was precise and delicate as I felt little pain during it. One thing that I felt stood out was his caring about my comfort. He was reassuring to me that I could raise my hand if it became painful and he would add more numbing to make me more at ease. But I never had to signal since the pain was minimal to non existent. The duration of time for the amount of work done was shorter than I expected, which highlights Dr Shims skill to multi task given that he was helping other patients at the same time, and never did I feel that he was rushing his work. During downtimes when I was taking molds of my crown, the dental assistant was helpful and attentive to my comfort, which I appreciated. When it was over, Dr. Shim went over what was done and asked if I had other questions. What stood out to me overall was his ability to integrate his caring attitude with his knowledgeability and skill as a dentist. With the first visit, I felt like I chose the right place. Not only was the work they did great, but also the vibe and energy of the place was positive and welcoming. The 2nd visit was a week later to put the permanent crown in, and a teeth polishing also. All of the staff were friendly and the overall experience reconfirmed my feelings from the first visit. In the past, I used to dislike going to the dentist. I chose to visit Prime because it's close to my house and on my route home from work. I wanted to get a cleaning done since it had been a couple years since I went to the dentist, so I visited Prime this past week. The front desk gal did my x-rays and I usually get gag reflex from the bite being in my mouth, but she was really good and fast. They found four cavities and said I need a scaling. Dr. Shim was really gentle but thorough, and always explained what he was doing. His dental assistant was extremely polite and did a good job with suctioning and with my polish. I'm happy with the care and service I received, and will be back in 6 months. read more

What a joke! The dude is the most unprofessional dentist I have ever been to. I went in because of all the excellent reviews I found on the guy and now I believe he had friends write them to make himself look good. The assistant, Gaby, has the bedside manner of a splintered fence. I have had to research all the answers to aftercare on my own, they did not give any and when I questioned, I was quickly dismissed by Gaby. I guess for the fact I am not hispanic nor do I speak Spanish, she does not have time for me. I asked for pain meds after having a tooth pulled. Shim told me he doesn't prescribe any because he doesn't want his patients getting addicted. Another woman was there on my return visit and asked what she could use for pain after she had a filling put in and he told her not to worry, he wrote a script for codeine for her. Shim reminds me of the Chinese salesman George on Seinfeld talked to for hair cream...."You grow hair, you looka like Stalin!" Except this guy says "You no worry, you leave here with beautiful smile!" If this is beautiful, I would hate to see what his idea of ugly is! This is the only dentist that I have ever really liked, he is super nice and very patient. He tells you before he begins work to raise your hand if anything hurts, which is really cool, no other dentist I have ever gone to has ever taken the time to care about that, they just try to get in and out as quickly as possible. Made an appointment, and got out in less than an hour. No upselling on services that aren't needed, either. It's definitely a bit of a drive for me, but I think I've finally found a good one here. I used to have Cajalco Dental, until they dropped my insurance out of the blue. Used to think that long wait times, and overcrowding were part of dental checkups until I came here. It's only my first visit here, but compared to my last three dentists that I've been moved to by my insurance carrier, I'm impressed. Dentist is patient, and willing to answer any questions without making me feel rushed. It's been a while since I've felt good about a dental visit. If price is an issue, note that it can be higher than a clinic, but very reasonable compared to the usual dental offices. Will keep this review updated with future visits. read more

Don't let the website and friendly receptionist fool you. My mom needed to see a dentist and we made an appointment here because they spoke her language. I took her there and they were very friendly, so I thought I would try them too. At my appt, he replaced my old filling with porcelain ones. But here's the problem, he was extremely rough giving me the Novocain, that I screamed in pain. But I thought ok, it was probably a mishap, so I went ahead with the rest of the treatment. The whole time I sat in that was extremely unpleasant and nerve-wracking, but I was in too far to just jump off the chair and leave. Here's the reason I'm writing this review (not that what I already shared isn't bad enough)...I had no cavities or problems with my teeth. I came home and as soon as the anesthesia wore off, I started feeling unbearable pain on my teeth that were perfectly fine before I went to this dentist. Today, about 2 months later, I cannot eat or drink anything cold, or even at room temperature, without the nerves in my tooth throbbing in pain. Here's my advice, Do Not Go to This Dentist!!!! He is horrible to be nice about it. Again, don't let their friendliness fool you...you will suffer big time. You will come out in worse shape than you went in. read more

I went to this place to get my wisdom tooth removed and doctor did full xray and full exam, then, quoted price during my visit. Also, he recommended to go for deep cleaning instead of regular cleaning. It would cost more but I gave a shot. So, on the same day, he did deep cleaning and it was much less quality even comparing to regular cleaning I get in other dentist office. I totally don't believe what he did was a deep cleaning and I think they are just trying to charge you more. So, don't ever do cleaning here. It doesn't worth it to do it here. Anyways, I went back a week later to finally get my wisdom tooth removed. I arranged sick leave from my work for a couple of days and really prepared for this treatment. However, doctor looks at it again and tells me he now want to refer to other oral surgeon. Wait, didn't he physically examine my tooth a week ago and said he could do this here?
