This is our go-to spot for wine (especially if we want to try something new). The prices vary from $11 a bottle on up. They have weekly wine tastings to bring the community together and offer samples of something that might be new to you. They have a nice selection of cold beer and wine in the cooler. We like to bring visitors here when they want something different. Need a gift bag or some snacks to go with your beverages? They have you covered. This is definitely the business in Printers Row I visit the most. The owners are nice and the shop has an old, rustic atmosphere, but in a nice way. First of all, the selection of wines is great! I could go in every day and still find something new each time. But wine isn't usually the reason I go here. They also carry a great selection of craft beers, including some rare and aged bomber bottles. Oh, right, they also do free beer tastings every Thursday, wine tastings every Friday, and spirit tastings some Saturdays. I always make sure I stop in for at least one of these each week, as they're educational and fun! Unfortunately, I usually end up buying more stuff than I need afterwards. It's times like these that make me think of simpler times, such as spending nights with friends at Printers Row Wine Shop, enjoying a few bottles of wine, listening to records, having great conversation, and making new friends there! Printers Wine Shop is a beer/wine/liquor store that doubles as a bar! What more could you want?! We came on Wednesday night, which is BYOR (bring your own record) AND no corkage fee night! So my buddy bought a few records, and we all picked out a few bottles and settled in at a high top, and had a great evening. Wines range from around 10$ and up. We were able to find (affordable) bottles that we all agreed on, plus none of us are that picky. While enjoying our wine and good conversation, we met the owner, who was super nice and welcoming. We also meet another nice couple who just moved to Chicago, and enjoyed talking to them. Overall, Printers Row Wine Shop is a cozy place to gather with a small group of friends and enjoy a nice bottle of wine. Or stop in to pick up one to enjoy at home! Highly recommend, especially on Wednesdays! Will definitely come back, and maybe with a board game or too. I just bought a condo around the area and stopped today to buy some wine- decent beer and wine selection but the guy working there DEFINITELY didn't wanted to be there. What a lovely find! I needed to get a bottle of champagne for a colleague, and was looking for a small-business alternative to Binney's. Printers Row hits the spot! It's a small store, but appears to be expertly curated. The prices seem fair, throughout the spectrum. Most importantly, there are true values to be found. STAY AWAY!! I was discriminated against by this establishment. I stopped in on Saturday September 5th around 8:40pm and asked the gentleman at the counter what time they close and he stated we're closing in 10 minutes. While in that area waiting for a table reservation for a neighboring restaurant, I seen at 9:20pm that they were still open. I stopped in again to inquiry why they were still open when I was told earlier they were closing. The same employee, who identified himself as Lee, informed me that they are close. The individuals and customers on the patio were just "finishing up their experience" as they are unable to serve liquor past 11pm. Well to my surprise, I seen him seating a party of three where he just refused my service. He poured them a glass of wine and when I asked why was I being discriminated against and not good enough for their establishment, he was tongue tied. Stay Away!! I'm not sure why I was refused service. I have an idea, but I digress. However at ANY establishments where customers are not treated equally is not a business I would support. I have stopped by Printer's Row Wine Shop several times now (I can't believe I haven't rated them yet!) and every time is a delightful experience. Décor: It isn't a big place but I like the vibe, very casual with a sprinkling of hipster. Along one wall is a decent selection of wines and behind the counter, and next to it, is liquor and more wine. They then have a cooler in the back with chilled wine, cheese, and a good selection of craft beer. Everything is nicely displayed, easy to see/read, and you can tell the place/business is cared for by the owner. Staff: Every time I am in there is a helpful guy there to answer questions or provide insight. Good staff! Drinks: Like I said, there is wine, cheese, some craft beer, and some select assortment of different liquors. It is the only place I've been able to find Wonderall pinot noir, and they even had Old Weller bourbon (which I've been looking for all over the place for a while now). Additionally, they sell Blanton's! Value: The prices are on par with other shops, even a Binny's. They also go above and beyond by offering to wrap the wine in a cool little brown paper bag. Granted, it's branded PRWS but it still looks great and why wouldn't you want to rep this place?! I stopped into this little shop last week when I was in town for a conference. Great selection of wines! Several of my favorites that are hard to fine were displayed on the shelves. They were having a free tasting which was also nice. Actual wine glasses for the tasting is a perk! The only odd thing was the staff interaction I had. This is a nice sized bottle shop for both craft beer loves and wine aficionados. Very clean and organized. Even the pricing seemed quite reasonable for their craft beers (sorry, did not look at any wine today). Why 3 stars, you ask? First off, they are completely unwilling to lift a finger to help you if you are looking at craft beer, so stick to selling wine. This is obviously your bread and butter, but you have jumped on board with the trendy craft beer movement, but you don't even know your own beers that are sent to you once a week by a new brewery that is 20 miles away from you. I messaged on FB, since they stay somewhat active and was ignored, so I called and they were quite short with no assistance. Then, I actually go to the store and while looking at bottles, I ask if they happened to have any bottles from a particular brewery. The guy didn't even look up...just, "nope, sold out." A second later, I find said brewery with over a dozen of their bottles sitting 10' away from the counter. No apology, which is fine...again, it's not wine but you almost lost a sale. Reluctantly to fork over my $, I grabbed my few items and was out the door. Not a great first impression to say the least. read more

Personally, I'm a beer nerd from Cali and I wanted to nab a few awesome Chicago brews to bring back home, and this little bottle shop carried what I couldn't find elsewhere. They have a number of options from local breweries (revolution, pipeworks, mraz, and off color, etc.). I stopped in early in my visit and wanted to pick up a few bottles but decided to wait as one employee told me they were going to stock Ninja vs. Unicorn by Pipeworks Brewing! Returned later in the week and learned they also just received Zombie Dust! Prices were right and totally worth it. The last time I came here was during the thick of Printers' Row festival in the summer. My recent visit was a complete 180-in a good way. Calm (in fact I was the only customer on a Saturday afternoon) and conducive to looking around, I immediately found myself in a state of wine zen...make that Zin. The varieties are clearly marked and I quickly made my way over to the reds. The person working here (not certain if it was the owner) listened to what i was looking for and offered honest opinions. I ended up with a bottle of Trim Cabernet, apparently a project by the winemakers to offer high quality wines sourced from numerous vineyards in California at an excellent value. I was happy with my bottle and will make it a point to stop by from time to time and not just wait for the annual festival to pay a visit. read more

At least over the last six months it's been in the cooler at Printers Row Wine Shop, my kind of store. PRWS has ritz appeal (fancy imported beers and plenty of exotic wine) yet continues to sell the classics (hard-A) everyone needs to stay warm in Chicago. [not like I would know or anything, dad!] *Carlsberg Elephant Beer: Alcohol 7.2% by volume and it still tastes good. Imagine a really sweet tasting Heineken, I mean ones Danish one's Dutch. PS It's very possibly that I've been subconsciously sold to Carlsberg being that it's been a major sponsor in European soccer my whole life. However, my Chicago friends liked it too when they tried it therefore I blame the lack of sells to poor advertising in the states. read more

Seriously though, I want to know how a store has [beer name withheld] sitting right there on the counter a week after it pops up in all the beer stores. This place HAS to be a hidden gem. Oh wait, it's a wine shop. They just happen to have a small yet splendid selection of craft beers. I can dig it. Called to see if they had a few beers. They even set aside said beers, even though it would be a few hours before I'd be in. I hate when the place down the street from where I work won't even hold a damn beer that's not all that popular (but down to their last one that hasn't moved in days), yet this place had no qualms about holding their last 2 bottles of something that some beer nerd easily could have come in looking for. After a little chatting and a little buying, I asked myself "self, what can you get the woman who birthed you and currently has everything thanks to you and your step-dad for her birthday?" I answered myself with "wine", because what mom who drinks one margarita and asks for "another margaritee please" WOULNDN'T want booze? (In case you missed that, my mom isn't a drinker. Who gets drunk off one margarita? Pfft.) I'm so thoughtful. I really liked that despite spending more than I should have on booze (including an impulse buy, thanks to it being on the counter and all), when I asked for help picking a wine and said "no more than $50 please" I wasn't met with nothing but $50 wines. In fact, I picked two wines that were roughly $20-$22. I don't know my wine like I know my beer, but I was able to help him narrow it down to a few bottles for me to choose from. I spoke with one gentleman on the phone and was helped by a different one upon arrival, but both were very pleasant to deal with. I like that in a wine shop. I challenge you to imagine what a wine/beer shop in the heart of Printer's Row looking like, then step in here and tell me it is not exactly what you pictured. There are bottles of wine stacked against every spot of wall, there are old barrels filled with goodies, tables featuring some deals, coolers and racks filled with fancy beer, liquor bottles stacked behind the long counter, homemade greeting cards to go along with the gift you are picking up, and even some gourmet-ish snacks to go along with whatever beverage you purchase. I should share that I am not what you would call a "boozer", in fact I know almost nothing about wine and beer. However, I am engaged to a man that could write a book on beer and I can safely say that the guy that is always working here (possibly the owner?) always has a chat with him about what's new, how to concoct your own mix of beer, and their favorites from around the world. The prices here vary, I don't think this is where you go to buy cheap stuff but there are certainly plenty of options on the more cost-effective side, as well as some options to splurge on. I definitely encourage you to come here for their expertise and selection, and please give them your money instead of the grocery and convenient stores around the area. read more

Pretty decent selection of beer. There is a giant fridget that lines the north side of the wall just full of all different kinds of beer. Too bad that wasn't my mission. I was looking specifically for Bordeaux. The person working there had no idea where to start. I looked at the signs above me and scanned. No listings for Bordeaux. What wine shop doesn't have Bordeaux? I knew it must be somewhere but didn't have the energy to look for it. So, I opted for my second red wine choice, Oregon Pinor Noir. I've always had luck with Pinor Noir's from the Oregon region and though..this would be a great place to get a great bottle! I picked up a $23 dollar bottle laying next to a $70 bottle and a $14 bottle. I figured I can be safe with something with a price range in the middle. I inquired with the counter about the $70 and was curious as to "how good it is" as there was a hand written label on the shelf claiming it is the wine store's favorite by far. The guy at the counter apparently has no interest in wine or beer. Doesn't have any recommendations or opinions to share. He had to look it up in the computer and learned it was rated just 90 points. C'mon. 90 points - $70?? crazy. I might be more curious if it was much higher. I've concluded this place is a rip off. The $23 bottle that I bought was terrible. It tasted no better than Three Buck Chuck. Ergh. what a waste of my money. read more

I'm fairly sure that the employees think I'm lost or going to steal something because I spend so long just browsing the ever-so-slightly-changing selection, reading the labels, and then buying based on cool name or awesome patter. I've had some hits, a LOT of misses, but that's not the point. The fun is in the hunt. On the less exotic side, I have found tall boys of Magners and Strongbow here, and for that, they are forever in my heart. Sure, there are cheaper places, but the service and the selection here makes up for any cost differential. But I think I need more tats to fit in. Oh well. We can't all be winners. read more

Since I'm a product of low-rent suburbia and actually have to work for a living, the only thing I know about wine is that it works faster and leaves me feeling less grotesque and bloated in the morning than beer. I have also heard that sophisticated "city types" enjoy drinking this bizarre grape byproduct when they have dinner parties; some people do so for the reasons I stated above, while others do so to cultivate an image of erudition and class. Whatever. Class warfare is lame. Everyone should drink wine and the guys who work in here clearly know this to be true. They don't judge and they know how to size up a customer and make the right recommendation at the right price. In my case, that would be: "So you need something for about 12 bucks that tastes better than Yellow Tail? We can help you out with that." They look like interesting characters, too. I especially like the young fella with the mustache and the bowler hat. Awesome look, man. You should be in a movie, playing the sidekick, or something. We are from Cali , we loved a few yrs back to CO. Visited Chi town based on recommendations . And this is one of my favorite spots. Visited last yr for the 1st time , went back a few weeks ago with our Kiddoes and I had to stop at my fave spot in CHi town with the best Pinot Grigio " Perle Bleu". This place reminds me of all stop shop of wine, beer, spirits, with few cigars in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) without the hipsters. Of course in NYC, this doesn't exist. As you enter, the music playing is not coming from an iPod, but vinyl records on turntables. The store is small, but clean and neatly organized. One of the workers came by and asked if we needed help. I politely declined, as I drooled over the selection of craft beer bottles in the fridge. Some wines have nice descriptions of flavor profiles on placards, so I wish all of them did. Overall, Printers Row Wine Shop is an impressive wine and spirits shop and open late (11pm). Printer's Row Wine Shop is awesome if you are into inebriation, which, fortunately for them, I am. I don't know much about wine, but it looks like they do in fact have all two colors of it, so that is a plus. Looking beyond the obvious best feature of being only a couple blocks from home, their beer selection is also awesome and the staff is always nice and helpful. A few blocks away from the heart of downtown Chicago, it is good to know a place that feels like a small local neighborhood shop. They constantly rotate in their craft beer section and the staff is pretty knowledgable about recommendations and what is good seasonally. They also always stock a variety of sample packs from random breweries around the country, so it is fun to try something new and learn by trying new things. When my girlfriend and I got obsessed with pumpkin ale during last October (or ROCKtober, if that's your preference), their employee Nate put some behind the counter for us for a while without us asking, assuming we were coming in eventually. $35 extra YelpBucks for that. They carry the crappy stuff too, but don't walk too far down the beer aisle and be that dickhead that goes into a nice unique shop and buys a case of miller lite. I wish they would price 30 packs of college-beer at like $100 a case just to get across "you're a douchebag." read more
