Man, this place is great, and I thoroughly regret not going for five stars right off the bat. (They say even blind squirrels find nuts, and I think those with great vision miss the occasional acorn here and there.) I stop here weekly to check out their wine, and Nate (Shout out, boyeee!) is always there with a recommendation. He doesn't try to blow me away with snobbery, or browbeat me when I say I only have a meager sum to spend. He's liberal with the customer service and the friendly conversation, and--more importantly--he's spot on with his recommendations. This is a great little wine shop in Printer's Row. My boyfriend and I come here regularly since we live close by. Actually, we stumbled upon this place by accident after a horrendous experience at the nearby Warehouse Liquors (read my review on it for more on that). The owner is quite friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of different wines in a wide array of prices. The prices reflect the neighborhood, so you could definitely find cheaper altneratives, but not in the area. The atmosphere of the shop is very clean and rustic. Their craft beer selection is wonderful! We've tried all kinds of different seasonal beers from this shop over the last year. They have a small selection of spirits, which is fine. They have all the basics covered and a few unique options here and there, but the real reason to come here is for the beer and/or wine. However, by comparison this place fell lower than expected. Customer service is not robust, but the fact that it has to be a "suitable" replacement would have to suffice. Environment: Quite an elegant place and very organized! Wooden floors that look sharp, sturdy, and releases and Earthy essence. Homely like. 5/5 Employees: Have mostly an average experience or poor service. Makes my eyes roll after being engaged. However, the knowledge of the people are exquisite and they know their stuff! People often compare small neighborhood shops to mega marts and oversized beverage providers. And I have no idea why. To me, it's an unfair comparison for countless reasons. No small place can offer the limitless selection of a larger store while larger stores don't have the intimacy and service of a smaller place. That said, every neighborhood needs a shop like this. It's warm, inviting, and they have a great selection of beer and wine available. Is the store so great that I'd bypass my regular places to further my trip and head here? Without a doubt the best liquor store in the city. The staff is super friendly, and they are the only retailer (as well as sister-store Gentile's on the campus of UIC) to carry Vinejoy products. Vinejoy has an amazing selection of wine and other liquors and I truly believe that they are on the rise in the competitive Chicago market for high-quality wine. I love the decor, the overall feel, and selection that Printers Row has and you can always hear great music being played while in-store. The Loop is a convenient location no matter what way you are getting there on the CTA, so there really is no reason other than perhaps laze to make a trip down to Printers Row. This wine shop/liquor store has really great products and offers some high end stuff that you can't find else where. The reason I am giving 3 starts is because the owner and some of the guys that work there are jerks - unless you are a hot chick they will most likely be the opposite of helpful and act annoyed when you ask them questions. The hot chick treatment however is more like this "oh, can i help you choose some wine? i actually have a bottle open if you want to taste this one. can i offer you a foot massage?" This place is an example of the style of Printers Row. This quaint little shop has original hardwood floors and a careful organization of every bottle of wine, or beer. They also sell cheeses, meats, crackers and treats! They will assist you if you get confused all you need to do is stand there long enough to be offered help! Customer service here is A-1. If you are trying to avoid COVID, I can't recommend this place. I had never been here before and stopped by to pick up a bottle of cold white wine. The store has a really nice old fashioned look and an impressive assortment of wines and liquor. However, in the midst of the pandemic, the store was full of people sitting around, chatting, and drinking wine without their masks on. To get to a lot of the selection (including the fridges at the back), you have to walk right by several groups of people sitting in the middle of the room without masks. If anyone had COVID, it would definitely be lingering in the air and there is no way to avoid it. I did not feel safe. read more

This Wine and Beer shop is amazing! my boyfriend and i just happened to stumble in one night after going to Villians and we've been back every week for something every since. Since i dont know too much about beer, i really appreciate the staff taking the time to suggest bottles and types for me that i would have never picked up otherwise. They suggested the best $3 hefeweizen that i will ever drink in my life and i've always picked up a bottle when i'm there now. They also have a great arrangement of off the wall beers, such as Banana Bread (which is yummy!)If you are in the South Loop and have a moment just to browse they always have a great wine selection and dont mind answering any questions. Another thing i really appreciate was that the clerks didn't pretend to know things. I wanted to know about a certain beer and they jumped on the computer and told me everything they could find out it. It was great! read more

Clean and well lit, and adjacent to Flaco's Taco's, Hackney's, and assortments of other restaurants in Printer's Row. This place certainly isn't the biggest wine or beer shop I've been to, and it's not the cheapest either (Andersonville Wine and Spirits is my personal favorite), but it's not too bad either. There's a cooler in the rear that has an ample selection of beer and chilled wine. Finding Delirium Nocturnum or Tremens didn't pose a problem, nor did finding products from Unibrou. Wine selection seemed ok. I'm not a huge wine drinker, but it appeared as if they had some bottles that weren't too expensive. I know, that's really not a good way to describe things, so forgive me. Whiskey selection was excellent. Balvenie 12 and 18, JW Gold and Green, McCallan 12 and 18 were all in stock. At 100 bucks a pop for JW Gold, it was a little pricier than what I'm used to paying when I get it duty free on travel, but at my current rate of consumption (one bottle a year), I think I can afford the extra 20 - 30 bucks. The collective staff are friendly - I can see how they might appear standoffish due to the proximity of local colleges and the clientele that they stereotypically bring in, but I've never had a problem with service. My absolute favorite place to buy wine. Note, they have a great selection of quality liquor as well. The atmosphere just oozes cool. With old hardwood floors and wood shelving, the place feels as if it was plucked straight out of the early 20th century. The recent addition of turn tables and the guys playing real vinyl and you just want to hang out for extended periods of time. Service is awesome. You don't get the typical 'I know so much about wine, let me tell you about it and why you don't ' attitude. The guys are always ready to make some suggestion, but honestly, I typically go with whatever they have on special in the front of the shop. I like trying new wines and really trust them to put out some good choices. You can put your flashers on and pop in, which makes parking easy. read more

It isn't a huge place but what they have is quality selections and a great staff. The beer selection was surprisingly good, and one of the guys steered me towards the French Country Ale by Two Brothers Brewery, a local beer that totally rocked. Beer sixers could be a buck or two less, but hey I want the best for cheap. The wine selection runs the gamut, and provided plenty of $10-$20 bottles. The wines are grouped by easily understood descriptions, allowing anyone to make a good choice; i.e. spicy peppery and good with steak, light fruity sweet for dessert, etc. something like that ... I also didn't feel any price pressure, as the counter person recommended a $10 Malbec loaded with flavors of dark cherry, pepper, and tobacco ... Deal ! read more

I feel so lucky to have this unique wine shop in my hood! While not as big as the super-store-wine-shops, Printers Row Wine Shop has a rustic elegance that allows you to peruse wines from every region imaginable. If you are a fan of European reds (and c'mon, who's not?) then you'll find a fantastic selection. Best yet--Printers Row Wine shop has tastings of 5 or so wines, which is fun to indulge in. They also have sales on a variety of wines, and a wine of the month club. Mostly though, it's just a relaxing atmosphere--not pretentious at all. Wine snobs need not enter! Let me put it like this: I like Printer's Row Wine Shop so much that, even though I live in the northern part of Streeterville, this is my preferred shop for all things Bacchus. Period. If I'm in the neighborhood, I have to stop in just to poke around. Is it the awesome people who work there? The great selection? The down-to-earth atmosphere? I have no clue. There always seems to be something interesting to try, regardless of your mood: Fun craft beers, fantastic wines, wonderful spirits (including awesome bourbon)! If cost is your concern, Printer's Row Wine Shop is competitive with most, and even if you have to spend an extra dollar, you get more value from your visit than you do from a Big Box Booze store. I don't know how to rate liquor store because alcohol is alcohol. So the two stars is for bad customer service! The sale person has attitude and he is mean! First time when I went there the sale person "helped" me to buy a wine. I asked for help to choose the wine , he showed me where it is and then just left. Today when I was about to pay he asked about rewards card. I didn't hear what he asked, so I asked him to repeat the question which obviously annoyed him. And Usually when someone asks customer about rewards program you assuming that they will help you to get one, but he did not. So what is the point of asking then? The sale person needs to change his attitude or job, that doesn't require customer service. read more

I'm a sucker for craft beer. I love trying new brews but hate when I can never find them again. Enter Printers Row Wine Shop. I went in for Pumking today (after googling where i could get it nearby) but was thrilled to have found New Holland brews, Founders, other Southern Tier, etc. I left with a much higher total but I had planned but my new bag helped with that! What bag you ask? $2 for a bag that holds 4 beers in place and gave me 10% off my purchase today and will continue to do so forever and ever. Aside from the products- the dude working was also really pleasant. He asked only once if I needed anything (more would have annoyed me) and didn't stare while I meandered around. This shop is a gem. I don't live in the south loop, but I will take the trek here to visit this wine shop. I'm not super cultered. I just like wine. This place understands that and works with that. First off, the service is impeccable. I came here on a whim on a Saturday night half an hour before closing, and I didn't feel like it was the end of the day type service. The guy who was working was really helpful and interesting and not in the least bit pretentious. He was also very conscious of our budget, which I appreciated. They have free wine tastings every Friday. I'm so glad I found this place. You're not going to buy a $3 bottle of Trader Joe's wine here, but why on earth would you want to? If you want $3 wine, go to Trader Joe's. read more

Let me first off saying, I have been going here for the last year for convenience purposes only and they do have an excellent selection. I am avid craft beer buyer and occasionally wine and liquor. I more than anyone want this place to succeed, but at the state of their customer service it will not make it. They are by far the most unfriendly people I have ever met. Every time I am in there I am nothing but courteous and they are completely disinterested in helping you or guiding you. The one guy; who was somewhat friendly, was recently let go and now the owner is there all the time. He is also, unfriendly and not helpful. The current guy there all the time doesn't know anything about beer and when you ask he throws his nose in the air and says, "I only drink red wine." They hide beer releases on the floor behind the counter. Then when you ask if anything special was released; because you know they hide it, he laughs and says, "No what you see is what I have." Well who knows with you guys! You hide stuff and then you don't. We don't receive release emails anymore because you let go the one employee that somewhat kept up on it. To top it off they save special beer releases for certain customers; it was sitting in sight behind the counter, and when I asked they told me it's for their best customers only. I specifically went in there for the release of Firestone Anniversary that day and they had over 8 left, but all saved for their "best" customers who apparently were too busy to come in that day. I was there late in the afternoon, so keep that in mind. To say the least, I am not happy about that and actually have been buying less from there. I went from spending $100 a week easily to maybe $20-$30, just picking up a few beers now. I am not writing this to say don't go there and fire the staff. I am hoping maybe...just maybe, the owner will see this and start to make some changes. Get his current staff to drop the attitude and be friendly. Smile, greet, offer assistance... you know things like that. Same for you too though owner guy. Lets put it this way, Binny's South Loop is looking better and better even though they are out of my way. read more

This place has a small but very well curated selection of liquors, wines, beers, and ciders, and a great location, but the staff are nearly insufferable. Of course they don't post prices on items, so you have to ask them how much each bottle of locally sourced hipster whisky costs in order to make a purchasing decision. In response to every question, you're guaranteed an ear full, without any regard to your interest or level of annoyance. If you're looking for an actual store in which to buy things, rather than a chance to hang out with a faux-friend who wants to tell you about all the cool shit they've been learning in sommelier school while charging for $10 more than the liquor store next door and wasting time on a creepy loyalty program, head elsewhere. Haven't been impressed with this shop for years now. Staff always seem too cool to be bothered. A friend of mine had a very negative experience there recently but I needed to pick up a quick bottle on the way home from dinner knowing that nothing would be open the next day (Thanksgiving). Bought a bottle of FEW bourbon. $70. Wha?!?!? Are you kidding me? Are you charging so much because it's imported? No, wait, it's from Evanston! Same bottle is currently $40 at Binny's and $45 at Whole Foods. Yes, this place is more expensive than Whole Foods! I do like to support the local businessman but will never go there again. Sure, charge a couple more bucks, that's fine. But $30?!?! Warehouse Liquors is only a short walk away and, while they usually charge (a little) more than Binny's, the staff is awesome and actually appreciative of the business. read more

The staff are very nice, the atmosphere is great and, of course, the wine is wonderful. Only 4 stars because they need to provide table/waiter service at the tables.
