Pretty awesome BBQ place that I saw driving in, decided to give it a shot. Food: since I wasn't from the area, I asked a local who said that their go to is Swamp Fries so we gave it a try. This was simply one of the best covered fries I have had. A solid pulled pork over some fries with a decent cheese sauce makes for a good time. Service: unfortunately the food takes a LONG time after you order. I know I had quite a bit of people in front of me, but 45 minutes is a long time. Aesthetic: roadside stand with a cool, rustic, barn-like feel. Definitely seems like a great spot during the summer months. read more

The chicken was great, bbq'ed perfectly! Drove by hundreds of times and glad I finally stopped.

We drove by this place while in town for the weekend and decided to give it a shot. We ordered the combo which had half a rack of ribs, a half of chicken and two sides which we got baked beans and salt potatoes. We also grabbed an order of fries. We paid $29 (cash only) for lunch for the two of us and we both enjoyed it. When we arrived with two other customers the music was on and it was blaring loud‍ and then while waiting on our food they decided to play a political commercial which we found strange. We decided to take our food back to our camp site because of the way to loud music and weird political propaganda. I'm all for a good restaurant but please don't push your political agenda while I'm patronizing your establishment trying to enjoy some food and have a good time. We tried a little bit of everything as being raised in the south, we are still trying to find the perfect BBQ since relocating to the area. First, the good. The ribs were amazing, very tasty. Probably my favorite out of all the area places that I've tried. They have an excellent spice rub and just a hint of BBQ sauce. Not only that, but they were cooked just right. Not overcooked and falling off the bone (first sign of an overcooked rib) but pulled cleanly off the bone when eaten. The pulled pork was also quite good, just a tiny bit dry. As a side note, their BBQ sauce is pretty good, not too sweet and they go very light on it unless you request otherwise. Though they do seem to put it on everything unasked. It was drizzled on all of our by the pound meats (ribs, pulled pork, and brisket). The bad. The half grilled chicken, while seasoned well, was quite dry when it came to my favorite part, the breast and wing. Not sure if it was because it was sitting and then reheated or if because it was simply overcooked. The very bad. The brisket was awful. No flavor at all and incredibly dried out and tough. Not a speck of fat, grease, or moisture other than the bbq sauce they drizzled over the top. Very very thick slices, some up to an inch thick and so dry and tough it required a fork and steak knife as it was even difficult to bite and tear. I would definitely go back again for the ribs and might be willing to try some other things again. One thing I've noticed about BBQ up here (being from the south) is that most restaurants down there have their smokers going every day or every other while a lot of the places up here seem to smoke once or twice a week and then reheat all week. Not saying that they all do or this place does, but that seems to be the impression I got. read more

So just a drive and saw a little almost shack on the side of the street. Saw BBQ and said let me try it. You can smell it as your driving. So quickly did a turn around. And it is a small little place that does most of there sides it seems inside but the grilling is all done outside. Ribs wrapped in foil. Let's say there doing it right. Pricey. But well worth the amount of great food with lots of flavor. The fries were great topped with cheese and pulled pork. Which the pulled pork sandwich was great. Roll was nice and soft. But back to the fries. If you have fries that are topped with anything you better have some good fries that cook well and taste good. And these were perfect. A great base vessel to support the cheese and pulled pork. I hope on trip home I take same road back to stop there again. read more

Saw this place on our way to Watkins Glen and immediately decided to stop after hiking. Best decision ever. Hubs and I split a half rack of ribs with fries and coleslaw, which was plenty for us to share. Everything was so good. Ribs fell off the bone and were smoky and tangy, covered in sauce. Coleslaw was creamy, crunchy, tangy. And the fries were fresh cut, boardwalk style. The ambiance was great. Side of a highway next to a rock wall, three plastic picnic tables to sit at, cars whizzing by, smoke from the grills wafting in the air. Hole-in-the-wall on the side of the road but holy moley this is good BBQ! My father said he stopped at this place once and said it was good. I was skeptical because of the location but oh my was it delicious. The food came out so quickly and piping hot. For the cost you get so much food too. Every meal has two sides you get. Everything is homemade. I got the pulled chicken and it was amazing. So juicy! My fiancé got the ribs and chicken combo and he loved it. The ribs fell off the bone (appropriately). Chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. Don't let the location fool you! Stop and try some BBQ! read more

The middle aged gentleman that took my order gave me attitude for asking what he recommended, looked like his extremely dirty shirt hadn't been washed in multiple days, and he was smoking a cigarette the entire time he took my order and handled the food. I could taste the cigarettes in the Mac salad which had too much mayonnaise and I could taste the cigarettes in the chicken. It was most likely due to the smoke getting in the Togo boxes from handling them with a butt in his hand but it was still disgusting, it was over priced considering the awful quality/service, and I will never ever dine there again. Wash your clothes and don't be rude to customers for no reason you jerk. read more

Honestly, the only reason that I removed a star was because, as other reviewers have mentioned, the service can be unwelcoming. Otherwise, the ribs (which I can only speak to and believe me, I know my ribs and barbecue) were the real deal. I highly recommend, but don't expect a smile. read more

When I do bring food home for dinner I always think I have enough but my family can't get enough of the Chicken BBQ, the pulled pork sandwiches and my all time favorite is the BBQ Ribs. This is a great barbecue stand on the side of the road just few minutes away from Watkins Glen State Park. Only open on weekends and holidays. We came to Finger Lakes area for a long weekend and ate at it three times because it was so good and you get a great deal for your buck. A full rack of ribs plus two sides for $26 is a steal. The ribs cook for 6.5 hours and they were so juicy and tasty. I would come back again next time I visit the area. read more

Finally tried it this past summer after driving by it year after year. The smell finally got to us, and we pulled in. So sad that we waited- the best tasting chicken I've ever had, bar none. Their ribs and pulled pork are also excellent. All of their sides are good. There's no place to sit out of the elements, so we typically just get it to go. Very economically priced as well. This is a little side-of-the-road joint located on a major road leading into Watkins Glen. While the tent may not look like much from the outside, the food is G-O-O-D. We had a pulled pork sandwich with some amazing BBQ sauce on it, plus a side of fries with gravy. I'm not sure what they're putting in their gravy but it's something magic! We stopped on our way into Watkins Glen and saw a line of people. It was absolutely delicious! I had the pulled chicken and my husband had the brisket. Both were excellent. The coleslaw and salted potatoes were the perfect compliment to our meal. Great to see a local business doing well. When we travel our goal is to NEVER eat at a chain restaurant.
