EDIT: This place is so hit or miss. The first time I went there, I would say that it's one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. I showed the barber a few photos of the cut I was looking for, and he nailed. He did a great job. But, the second time I got a different (older) gentlemen, and was pretty disappointed. When I pointed out to him that my hair flared out on the sides, his solution was to gel it down, instead of cutting it appropriately. That is not to even mention that he totally missed the cut/style I requested. So, my advice is to avoid the older gentleman and get the middle-aged gentlemen - who does a decent job for the price. read more

I live in Chicago, which has a mecca of $5 barbershops, where for that price, you can get a fade, a shave, or your eyebrows done. Given the amount of competition there is here, I am extremely particular about getting my hair cut when out of town, on vacation. Visiting SD for a week had me searching Yelp for the keywords: fade, barber, san diego, which brought me to a number of reviews from guys whose opinion only mattered if they had fresh faded hair in their pictures. Weird, I know, but what other criteria could i use? Ended up that Pro Barber had good reviews and was close to my hotel in the Hotel Circle. You walk in, and it's like they say - barbershop in a strip mall. There were 3 guys working on Saturday morning, a young guy and 2 older gentlemen. I believed that Mike cut my hair. Communication was easy....."zero on back and sides, fade, number 1 on top, shave face...." - and they go to work on you very quickly and efficiently. They do an excellent job of brushing the hair off your clothes and out of your ears, even shaving off baby ear hairs that you might have. I got out of there paying $24 - $9 for the cut, $15 for the shave, which was a deal, especially since I sometimes pop $60 for a shave at Art of Shaving. At the end of the day, it's all about the barber's prowess with a blade, and even though I have a very tough beard, Mike got me baby smooth in 2 passes. I don't know that I will visit SD anytime soon, but if you need that kind of cut, this is where you want to go. read more

Ok, I've been in LB for awhile and got kinda suckered in to the whole hipster barber thing. Apparently there's this whole subculture of skinny, PBR drinkin' tatted guys that cut hair and party. They charge $20 for a really nice cut and a straight blade shave. It can take an hour for the whole thing. I did it and I'm not ashamed to say I enjoyed it. The other day, I was looking for such a place in SD since I just moved here...like others have said, it's hard to find a good barber... So I Yelped it. I found a place kinda close, but they charged $25-$35...with tip and 2 cuts a month, that ends up being like $80 bucks a month for a haircut. I'm doing ok, but I'm not such a dumbshit baller that I don't know that $80 can still buy me something nice. I went back to my roots and typed in "Asian Barber". Boom. Found Pro Barber over near Sports Arena area. $8.95 a cut. $11 all in. Still, you never know what you are gonna get...so I went with some trepidation. I needn't have worried. Got in and out with a phat fade in less than 30 minutes. The older guy in the middle chair did it and so what if can't really speak English well. He got what I wanted and got it done. This place is awesome unless you get the older guy. The older guy SUCKS and has fucked up my hair twice. The other guys and the women all do a great job. 1 star for the old guy that sucks, 5 stars for the rest = 3 star average. Not only does the old guy do a poor job, he can actually make a haircut painful plus he talks on and on and takes forever. They increased the price to $10 btw. read more

Really good prices but be careful of which barber you pick and make sure thoroughly tell them what you want. They hardly speak English, so at times it is difficult to communicate. Friendly and respectable employees. Decently fast on getting you into in a chair. As I said though really good prices I you just need a quick cut. read more

I think the most difficult thing for a guy is finding the right barber. Especially, a barber that listens to your requests, actually tries to talk to you during the fade, and feels like they take the time to make sure your haircut is just right. I walk into a barber shop and ask for the most basic barber cut and he manages to ruin it. My barber cut took an hour. The barber didn't seem to know how to do anything outside of a simple buzz cut. A barbershop that doesn't even sell palm aid. 1 star for cheap prices. If you want ANYTHING other than a beard trim or military cut...DO NOT COME HERE. Pro barber? Hah don't think so. My comb over has holes in it, he had no idea how to blend a calic. Didn't put any water in my hair even though I told him I've been wearing a hat all day. Came here for my first time and I got a great haircut for cheap! They were very busy but had 4 barbers working so I waited no longer than 5 minutes. I got a medium skin fade and it came out great.
