As much as a home inspector is needed, it's not as necessary for a brand new home. But I went with Neil anyways for piece of mind. I have a 3200 sqft house I wanted looked at and he did a heck of a job. He inspected every nook and cranny possible and we got everything we needed. Very pleasant and smart guy! Thanks Neil!!! In addition, as he was inspecting the house he would stop and take his time to show me how to use certain functions (for example: the whole house fan). I am a single parent, and buying a home can be very stressful. I am currently in escrow for a home that was built in 1962, so naturally I really needed a second opinion. Especially regarding the pool and spa, air conditioner, and especially needed reassurance that the homes electrical system was tip-top. I have many grand children and the last thing I need is one of my babies getting hurt or possibly worse due to negligence. It's not like I know about such things. I am a Registered Nurse, NOT an electrician, HVAC tech, or possess any DIY skills of any kind. That is why I called Neil Mattson. From the moment he arrived at the house to meet my agent and I, he spent 40 minutes arguing with somebody in the garage. Even my Real Estate Agent was getting annoyed that he was supposed to be working on our time. I specifically let him know that what I NEEDED checked off to feel safe is the home's electrical system, and he was quick to reassure me that he is an Ex- General Contractor, and that even though electrical wasn't his main area of expertise, that he did take a proctored test, not like the "other guys who take their tests ONLINE" and that he would surely be able to give me peace of mind regarding the home's structural safety, electrical safety, plumbing, HVAC, as well as check out the home's breakers, and electrical service entrance, as well as the pool's filtration equipment, the pool's heating unit, and the pool's draining capacity. SO after waiting 40 minutes we finally got down to business-mind you, I am paying him $325 dollars for this inspection for the safety of my family. My son just graduated college and studied electrical and is a certified HVAC technician, and to be honest- NEIL didn't tell me anything that we didn't already know. THeres a few electrical outlets that must be replaced with GFCI outlets. Even the real estate agent knew that. I needed somebody to give me an actual diagnosis of the HVAC system, all he said was, "well you can hear that its on. so it works" So he was walking around the house picking out little superficial cracks here and there, again- WE COULD SEE IT WITH OUR OWN NAKED EYES, I CLEARLY STATED TO NEIL MATTSON OVER AND OVER AGAIN THAT I NEEDED HIS "PROFESSIONAL" OPINION, to check the things that a common RN like myself would have no way of noticing. SO then he puts some kind of stick into the pool and says "now because I put this stick in the pool, the price just went up to $375 from $325, yet his only diagnosis was, "THE POOL LIGHT DOESN'T COME ON, IT COULD BE A SHORT...." Actually I never felt comfortable with pool lights, and I know for a fact that the light was just disconnected. AGAIN, THIS MAN STATED ONLY THE OBVIOUS, AND I RECEIVED ZERO ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS THAT I PAID THIS MAN $375 TO INSPECT MY HOME. A MAN THAT SWORE HE WAS QUALIFIED TO INSPECT ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS, CUZ NOT ONLY WAS HE A LICENSED GENERAL CONTRACTOR, BUT HE HAD PASSED "PROCTORED" TESTS REGARDING INSPECTING HVAC SYSTEMS, POOL FILTRATION AND HEATING SYSTEMS, HE WAS OBVIOUSLY ARGUING IN MY GARAGE FOR 40 MINS WITH ANOTHER UNHAPPY CUSTOMER. DO NOT LET THIS MAN CON YOU TOO. I WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE HIM 1 STAR, BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE ATLEAST ONE STAR, MR. MATTSON I WILL BE CONTACTING THE CREIA, ASHI, AND THE BBB AND LETTING THEM KNOW ABOUT YOUR SCAM! read more
