This place tried to charge me over $130 for an oil change. I went down the block to OilChangers and was quoted $98. I even found a coupon here on Yelp for $5 off! So in total the oil change was $93. The service at OilChangers was better than most oil change spots I've been to. They washed the windows and were pretty fast. It's an oil change people. Why pay more for the same thing? read more

I was given the wrong oil filter (which I was unaware of until my most recent oil change that my brother did for me). We both looked up the specs online on fram.com, which denoted that the filter that was put in my car was NOT for my 2001 Honda Accord. The size differential is notable. PH6607 (what was installed) vs PH3593A (what we bought). The oil in my car as denoted by the sticker was 10W50. However, the owner's manual denotes I should be using 5W30... Simply the best oil change place in the Oakland/Berkeley area.. Normally id rather do it myself to make sure its done right. but these guys are good at what they do. Plus, their prices are good... The reasons why i like them are. you're in and out in 10-15 minutes depending if you get the motorflush or not. without even leaving your car!! you can bring your own oil or your own filter if you want just pay for the service.. they dont care... but in case you want to buy their oils, they have different brands!.. not like most places who are sponsored by a single brand... if you like castrol or mobil one or whatever it is you like if you're picky about your motor oil.. they probably have it..lol they dont try to upsell you... you tell them what you want and they'll do it.... if you happen to need anything.. they might suggest it.. but most of the time they clean your airfilter with a vaccuum instead of telling you that you need one.. and if they say you need one... you need one.. same with the motorflush... if they notice gunk in your oil... they might advice you to flush it out... do it.. you'll feel the difference.. i know there similar oil change places... but none like this.....this is the best one... a loyal customer guarantee... read more

Straight up. Maybe not necessarily like dentists and other regularly occurring things in your life that you might not look forward to, oil changes still make the list of things a fellow would like to think can simply take care of themselves. In college moons ago a friend visiting said men think bathrooms clean themselves. We had actually been waiting for this to happen! Prescient friend. As I grew older I realized or had to be regularly reminded that no, bathrooms are for the most part inanimate, and just like bathrooms and the scrubbing, oil does not change itself. The mechanic I rely upon for the Big Things is all the way across town and for a simple procedure the trek seems substantial so last time I pushed it way too far and finally said wait a minute there's a place a block from my house and I went there and throughout the 15 minute process they charged me extra to take my skid plate off scared me about my tranny fluid and like at least three other things that would have taken me from like 35 clams to ten times that and I said no even though they were very nice and polite these are Big Things and why were you poking around in my tranny to begin with? Not so at Pro Lube. Go at off hours and you're in and out in 10 minutes. Sit in your car and listen to the radio while they do their work and don't try to up-sell you on ten thousand things you didn't stop in for. Price is right, staff is professional and polite. For anyone who lives or works in the Bay Area and finds themselves within a half mile of these parts on a regular or occasional basis (radius check - like, if you go to IKEA five minutes away Pro Lube counts as close enough) make this your destination for the changing of the oil. So painless, so hassle free. Probs added 50,000 miles to the life of my ride, for as now I can get my fluids changed when I'm supposed to. read more

I must have found pro lube via yelp 5 or so years ago when I moved to the east bay. I am not great at planning ahead for my oil changes and I hate waiting around. Well you do not need to do either of those things here. I bring both our cars here all the way from Alameda because this place and the people that run it are awesome. They are open 6 days a week all day and I have never waited more than 15 minutes to get my oil changed no matter what time of day it is. They know exactly what to do and get it done quickly and accurately. They will tell you if they identify other issues but I never feel up sold or pressured to do anything. Their prices have gone up and recently an oil change is now $36, which is good compared to the prices I have checked in the area especially knowing you get in and out so quickly. The service here is good and I was pleasantly surprised that they vacuumed my air filter and refilled the windshield fluid. Once they finished the job, they were nice to show me the clean oil on the dip stick! Is that not service or what? All finished within 10 minutes. Awesome! I was along for the ride when she took her car to Pro Lube & was very impressed. A few weeks later, one my cars was due for an oil change & I knew exactly where to go. When I got there, it wasn't busy so I drove right into one of the service bays. Fascinated by how fast it went with the girlfriend's car, I timed how long my oil change took. There was a $39 special for synthetic blend, so I went for that. Service was professional, courteous & efficient. So I went back to the shop and he helped me to figure out what happened. The whole time he treated me with the utmost respect as an intelligent individual. Most of the time I feel like I have to be a bit harsh because as a woman you get treated as if we know nothing automotive. When we couldn't figure out the problem he made sure the drain plug was tight then he decided to replace the oil filter. I got to watch the whole time!!!! Nathan pulled out the oil filter and replaced the gasket just like I was taught I watched him install it and retighten the filter. DO NOT GO HERE! I went because of the great reviews but did not receive adequate service. Charged me more than any of their posted prices because my model of car "needs more oil" and "needs this filter not that kind." Fine. I don't know what my car needs, that's why I'm not doing it myself. No wait, good reviews, close to my house, small business. Needed an oil change, wanted to support them, thought I could trust them. The guy who seemed to be in charge said it would be $44, then when it was time to pay "I'm charging you $50." Fine. Before handing over my credit card I asked if they had topped off all the fluids and inflated the tires. "Yeah yeah, we do everything!" I asked because I didn't see the guy grab any of the air hoses or hear any hissing or compressor noises. Maybe they did it from below - couldn't see what was going on as I was inside the car. Whatever, he said they did, so Great! On my way. FALSE. Later in the day my car won't start. Open the hood and there's no cap on the washer fluid reservoir. After a lot of searching I find it, at the bottom of the compartment, and hurt my arm fishing it out. The extra weird part is that my fluid levels were exactly the same as they were when I was under the hood checking the oil myself before taking it in. Power steering fluid is at the "minimum" line, all the others are where they were too. Wtf! How are you going to leave a cap off when you're not even topping off the liquid! My front passenger tire was just as under-inflated as it was before I went. I guess at least it's good that the cap didn't melt or get caught in any moving parts...? Topping off fluid and tires are pretty standard fare at almost all oil-change places, and are explicitly included in their posted prices. I called after and asked them about their policy, and whether they did or did not top off my fluids. Not really a clear answer but when I said other places always include this he said yes they do all that. I asked for a partial refund because I did not receive this service, and the timing with my car not starting (after having NO problems with it previously, until these guys were under the hood) seemed pretty unlikely to just be coincidental. Dan said the best he could do was "maybe five dollars off the next time you come in." They "can't do any kind of refunds." BS! Unfortunately, going to buy all these fluids myself will cost way more than five dollars, and THERE WILL NOT BE A NEXT TIME. Dan was defensive (to be fair, I was quite outwardly frustrated) and didn't try any harder than that lame offer to make it right. I had to de-escalate the situation myself (thanks, years of customer service jobs!) but even after things became more civil it was obvious they cared way more about getting $50 one time than gaining a satisfied loyal customer (with multiple vehicles and punctuality regarding their maintenance). Happy for them that their business is doing so well that they don't need to uphold professional standards regarding vehicle safety OR customer service. Unhappy for me that I wasted money, time, and energy on this place. Go to oil changers on west grand - the prices are clear, the workers are friendly and forthright, they top off your fluids and tires as a matter of course, and there is some oversight/recourse at a corporate level should something be unsatisfactory. Plus you get a stamp card - you know, 'cause they want you to return. The person who put me on the phone with Dan initially said Dan was the manager, but when asked Dan says Nathan is the manager. "Ok can I please talk to Nathan?" "No he's on vacation." "Ok... when does he return?" "Uhhh.... June something..." Great. So, no accountability either. I suggested since they were unwilling to help me maybe they could at least clarify their prices, policies, and safety-check practices so other customers wouldn't have the same troubles. I got my oil changed 2 times in a row here at Pro Lube in Emeryville. The next day after the 2nd time my car developed an oil leak and the car was smoking under the hood. I took it to my regular mechanic who said that Pro Lube never changed my O Ring and they had kept re-using my O-Ring from 3 oil changes ago. The oil was all over the underside of my car which caused the smoking. I had to pay him to clean up the underside of my car and also to do another oil change with the proper O Ring.
