Hands down, without a doubt, best bowling alley food I've ever had in my existence. I'll start with the pizza because pizza is my favorite food. I was hesitant because I was at a bowling alley and I guess I've never had good food at a bowling alley until now. But when I looked around at all the pizza being served to different tables I just had to try it. I ordered the pepperoni pizza, and honestly it was sublime. I loved it. It was thin, crispy crust, good sauce, good cheese, good pepperoni. I devoured it. This pizza is better than most pizzas. I enjoyed it just as much as I have enjoyed Wildcrust, possibly enjoyed it more. Simply put, Highland Park Bowl makes a great pizza. Also got the calamari. Truly didn't have high expectations, maybe because I was at a bowling alley, but this calamari was shockingly good to me. Way better than expected, and would 100% order it again the next time I'm here. Additionally it was a pretty good sized portion. My wife ordered the burger and fries. She loved it. I tried it. I loved it. Fries were amazing. Would order it again for sure. The ambience is very cool. Had no idea this place has been around for like a century. Loved the vintage feel. So much character. Staff were super friendly. Although I think they may have been short staffed when we went. It seemed like there was only one server taking care of the whole place. She was really nice though and our food came out surprisingly quick. Came at 5:30pm on a Thursday and parked on the street right out front. Street parking is 1hr up until 8pm I believe. This place is like a time warp. It's 99 years old as of this review and has a colorful history that you can read about on the website. In short, during Prohibition, "patients" would see "doctors" upstairs (where the restrooms are located now) and then fill "prescriptions" downstairs for booze and bowling. I'm sure the Dude would approve. Now, you just fill your prescriptions directly at the bar, cutting out the middleman. There aren't that many lanes but we came on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have to wait. The place just oozes history all around, from the banners on the wall, to the old school bowling ball return system. There are also lots of old photos up the staircase and on the second floor, too. The food we tried--a hot dog and a giant pretzel--was good and better than your average bar food. The cocktails, er, prescriptions, were nice looking and decent but a little odd. I had a mango whiskey sour. It was boozy and decent but a little strange (mango?). I would suggest ordering traditional cocktails, perhaps a White Russian, instead of the ones they offer on their drink menu. The two bars are gorgeous, by the way. On Wednesday, the 13th, I still had not eaten dinner and found myself hungry, but it was late, past regular restaurant hours. No problem, I thought, since I was in Los Angeles - there had to be a food truck or taquería nearby, right? Afterall, I was in Southern California...and I was hit with a sudden craving for tacos. Wendell advised against walking around the neighbourhood alone, for safety reasons. Fortunately, I found out that LUCKY STRIKE at L.A. Live was just steps away from me...and they were still serving food. Perfect, I went straight there to get my grub on. I arrived around midnight to a very cool, upscale bowling alley. The atmosphere was similar to a discothèque with dim, hued lighting and music playing. Unfortunately, I was flying solo, so didn't bowl. I went straight to the bar, pulled up a stool and perused the menu. Since it was past 10PM, I was there during HAPPY HOUR. I was stoked. ...and guess what - the menu offered tacos! Although I didn't come to play, I was still winning! You know it - I ordered STREET TACOS, a trio of shredded BARBACOA braised beef, YUM! Of course, I took advantage of HAPPY HOUR and ordered a cherry vodka sour (concoction of vodka and grenadine, on the rocks) to wash down the Mexican handhelds that I devoured. My tummy was very happy. The bartender who served me was polite and friendly. It was my very first solo visit at a bar and conversation with him made me feel like I was in good company. Between bowling, games, and food, you can easily spend way more than expected. Not a terrible place, but the inconsistent pricing and high cost make it hard to come back.

It definitely took me back to when I was a kid, bowling in a league with my uncles, very nostalgic.
