Love to come here for a simple game of bowling or pool. No frills, not very expensive compared to other places. The bar is fully stocked, I haven't tried the food but the fries always smell wonderful. Seems to be a fairly safe area and they check you at the door which adds a layer of safety. My go-to bowling spot.

Overall Atmosphere Shatto39Lanes is a Koreatown classic, operating since 1954. Its 39 lanes come with a retro‑nostalgic charm--think vintage bowling feel, warm lighting, and that lively "pins crashing" energy . The vibe is casual, friendly, and oh‑so‑authentic. Bowling & Billiards * 39 lanes well‑maintained enough for casual play, though serious bowlers might notice lanes aren't factory‑waxed . * Billiards room stocked with ample tables--a great addition for pool lovers . * Arcade corner: A few pinball and Pac‑Man machines still chime in nostalgic fun . Drinks & Food * Bar: Serves strong, affordably‑priced drinks--think $4-7 cocktails and $7 games at night . * Snack bar: Classic comfort‑food fare like nachos, wings, burgers, hot dogs and more--greasy spoon style with diner charm . * Extras: Forgot socks? No worries--the vending machine has you covered . Pricing & Logistics * Lane rental (up to 5people): ~$30/hr weekdays before 6pm; ~$40-60/hr nights & weekends. Shoe rental is $5 each (). * Walk‑in games: About $6-7/game at night . * Parking: Free lot under the building, though tight--ideal for small cars . Crowd & Service * Mornings/Weekdays: Chill and laid‑back--perfect for a mellow afternoon outing (). * Weekends/Nights: Buzzing and social, especially with the bar crowd after 10pm (). * Staff: Friendly bartenders and security add to the welcoming vibe. Occasional lane glitches get prompt attention . * Family‑friendly hours: Under‑21 guests welcome until bar opens . Highlights & Considerations * What's awesome: * Retro, no‑frills charm with lots of lanes and extras. * Affordably priced bowling and drinks. * Pool tables and arcade make it more than just a bowling alley . * Heads‑up: * Lane surface might not suit advanced bowlers . * Parking space is limited--plan accordingly. * Weekends are lively--expect crowds and possible wait times . Final Verdict Shatto39Lanes is a beloved Koreatown institution that captures old‑school LA bowling culture. Whether you're rolling strikes, shooting pool, gaming arcades, or sipping a stiff cocktail, it's a fantastic spot for groups, dates, and families during the day. Expect a lively, energetic scene at night--a true throwback experience with modern perks. Score: 8/10 - A no‑holds‑barred retro gem offering entertainment, drinks, and nostalgia at a great value. Tip Summary * Go weekdays before 6pm for a chill vibe. * Visit weekend nights if you're after top‑ tier energy and people‑watching. * Bring a compact car for that free garage parking. * Arrive early or expect a short wait on busy evenings.

So I went with my favorite person on date night and I really enjoyed it starting from the kind gentleman at the door checking IDs to the staff throughout the whole place. This place offers you're regular bowling as well as arcade games and pool!! Yes we bought one hour for pool which is open with many tables within the bar area so drinking and pooling, perfect! There's music playing with the area and they hit the right music to fit the ambiance and vibe of all patrons! This establishment is quite large, not your regular limited stuffy bowling place built with those dragged motif from the 70"s (which is ok ) but more active and colorful to attract people!! I loved this night and hope to revisit soon, I recommend especially for those first date nights!!! Thank you Shatto!!

Great place to go with a group of friends. I normally come here to bowl but tonight I went to play pool and it was great. They have so many billiards tables and good prices too. It's not a legit billiards bar but they are good enough to hang out with friends and have fun. Loud environment so many go to a regular pool hall if you want it to be quieter. Food isn't anything to rave over but this place isn't really meant for fun. Go here to bowl, play pool, drink and play arcade games.

Pretty great spot to catch up with friends, family co workers, take a girl on a date ! They have lot of parking underneath the bowling structure After 10pm they ID so you kids under age acting tough better be inside before then lol hahaha I was young once ! Make sure you don't bring a hydro flask or any liquids at the line security very uptight about the policy, but hey it's there job The bar is very chill , bowling , pool arcade just great spot would recommend it

This bowling alley seems to be a longstanding location in Koreatown for bowling. Hugely popular on weekend nights so you might have to sign up for a waitlist to get a bowling lane. There is free parking underneath the building but it is very tight so you should have a smaller car and check all your mirrors and cameras to adjust. They check IDs at the entrance because there is also a bar there. Lots of families with small kids here during peak hours. For bowling, shoe rentals are $5 per person and you can rent the lane by number of games or by the hour. Machines are intuitive to use and work well, staff are helpful when there are any further issues. Very straightforward and fun to bowl here. There are snacks if you're hungry and small arcade games here too if you're looking for other smaller activities.

This bowling alley has most things a bowling alley should have, lots of lanes, shoes, balls, pool tables, greasy food, video games, pinball, air hockey and under the alley parking! But they wouldn't let me bring inside my bottle of water. There is a security guy outside and a sign. We paid $55 for an hour of a lane plus $5 each to rent shoes. $80 for 5 of us to play was $16 each, not terrible. We had fun, ate greasy food and played some games. We'd return.

This place has stood the test of time. Although a lot of the arcades that used to be here are gone. There's no more Street Fighter. No more Galaga. They do have Pac-Man. They have some pool tables and a bar for 21 +over I've only ever bought French fries and hotdogs. But I mean it's frozen food so what do you expect? Free parking underneath.

First time here and what a fun experience! Interesting entrance, at least three security guards in the afternoon. Other than that, the venue was clean, reasonably priced, and customer service was good. There's an open room sports bar attached. You can ordered at the bar and bring the drinks back to your lane. The panel has some fun options, like taking a profile picture. Also, there's an arcade and a room dedicated to billiards/pool tables.

Since I moved into the Silver Lake hipsterhood over 15 years ago, the 4100 Bar quickly became my local watering hole of a quasi dive bar. As I liked to say, "I rolled myself down the hill and later climbed my way back up" after a trip to this establishment. Formerly a distinguished dive bar called The Detour (which I also went to back in the day), it was overhauled and reopened under new ownership in 2001. Since then, it has become a staple in the community and celebrated its 25th anniversary as of this review. Although it's felt like I've been here 4100 times, would I continue to visit this corner neighborhood bar!? PURCHASE(S) Arts District Brewing 4100 Blonde Golden Ale Beer 5.00% ABV 16floz Draft ($5.00 HH): Rich amber color, light malty aroma, light body, light grainy malty sweet flavor, smooth finish, and light malty sweet aftertaste. West Coast Negroni ($10.00 HH): An interesting "beertail" that seemingly worked with its relaxing smooth taste; but honestly, I preferred the two separate to fully enjoy both. Arts District Brewing Traction IPA Beer 7.50% ABV 16floz Draft ($9.00): Bright amber color, light hoppy aroma, light body, light hoppy piney flavor, crisp smooth finish, and light hoppy aftertaste. Boilermaker (4100 Blonde) with Vodka Shot ($10.00 HH): I never understood the thought behind a liquor shot served with a beer whether it was done as a shot before or after the beer or dropped in such as the more famous Irish Car Bomb. From a marketing and sales perspective at a bar, it made sense, and maybe it got patrons drunk faster. However, from a taste perspective, it really was a waste of time and neither one or the other offered much as a pair. Boilermaker (4100 Blonde) with Whiskey Shot ($10.00 HH x3): See above. SERVICE Initially met by the front door security who checked IDs, I casually approached the bar and was greeted by a young man who easily and quickly took my orders throughout the time I was there. There wasn't any table service, so please bring your empties back to the bar and order another. Once it was time to close out, it was easy-peasy - cheers! PARKING (Varied: FREE this instance): I simply walked the five minutes from my place. Otherwise, there appeared to be some spots along the main drags of Sunset Blvd., Manzanita St., and all surrounding roads (please read all posted street signs) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A divey ramshackled-like building with a central four-sided bar, booths along all of the walls, two well-known photobooths (b/w 4pc strip $7.00), a pool table, and simply just randomness of decorations inside. Outside, there were several pool tables, a ton of communal wooden benches, and colorful tarps that shielded you from the rain and sun. Inside, minimal natural lighting entered through the windows and doors while a random assortment of electric ceiling and hung lights filled the rest. Out on the patio, there was plenty of natural lighting while a similar electric lights situation was present and the many street lights. I didn't recall seeing any TVs while music from a jukebox played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Why it took me so long to post a review for the 4100 Bar I had no idea, but I'm glad I finally did. They had a decent selection of beers on tap and liquor for cocktails or shots, no served food so bring your own (they also had catering and food trucks at times), the prices were comparable, the vibe was very kick-back, and the service was straightforward. They generally checked all of the boxes I hoped to find in a dive bar. Furry family members were allowed on the outdoor patio (water bowls available), there were Happy Hour specials (Daily until 8pm and MO-TU 10pm-12am), and almost certain nightly entertainment such as trivia, music, and more were available. I found very complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $70.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

My first bar experience in the US, and unfortunately it left a lasting bad impression…read more The security staff were very friendly, we got in without any issues, and we didn't have to wait long in line. The bar itself has a cozy atmosphere, and the photo booths are a great touch. We first ordered drinks from a female bartender who was friendly, professional, and served us quickly. The restrooms were clean and spacious. Having only two stalls for such a busy venue isn't ideal, but it could always be worse. Later, we went back to order another round. An older white bartender wearing glasses started serving us, and while he was preparing our drinks, he was also taking another group's order at the same time. I completely understood that since the bar was very busy. We ordered two Whiskey Sours and one of the bar's signature cucumber cocktails. The Whiskey Sours were served in margarita glasses without ice instead of traditional whiskey glasses. I assumed they had simply run out of the proper glassware because the bar was packed, so we didn't complain. The real problem started when it was time to pay. The bartender placed the payment terminal in front of the other group instead of us, and they accidentally paid for our order. Instead of acknowledging that it was his mistake, he immediately acted as if it was somehow our fault. We tried to resolve the situation calmly and even offered to pay the other group's bill and buy them an extra drink to make up for the price difference (their bill was about $31, while ours was around $45). When it came time for us to pay, I chose not to leave a tip because of the multiple mistakes that had already happened. At that point, the bartender completely lost his temper. In the middle of a packed bar, he raised his voice and started yelling at us, saying it was disrespectful not to tip him. He also complained that we had ordered drinks that weren't on the regular menu and that making them had taken him "so much time." As a bartender myself, I know exactly how long it takes to make a Whiskey Sour, and it's certainly not an unusually time-consuming cocktail. If preparing it had been a problem, he could have simply told us before taking our order. He continued shouting that the bar was extremely busy, called our behavior "disrespectful" and "f***ed up," and finally told us he would never serve us again. We were honestly shocked. This was the first time we've ever experienced someone reacting this aggressively simply because we chose not to leave a tip, especially after such poor service. I've worked in customer service for years, and I always tip when I receive good service. I would have had absolutely no problem leaving a generous tip if our experience had been pleasant. After that confrontation, we no longer felt comfortable staying in the bar, so we left immediately with a very negative impression. Looking back, I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. It seems that many of the negative reviews mention the exact same bartender. A truly disappointing experience.
