Unless you are in Richard Polk's inner circle of customers STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! He lives within a bubble and by God don't let that bubble burst because Richard has a Jekyll & Hyde personality. I'm going to provide a time line and let you the reader be the judge. February 26th I am seeking a Volvo mechanic within my area on yelp. See PVS has incredible reviews and extremely close to where I live. I had a rear taillight cracked and found a replacement at a salvage yard. I needed this fixed as the Houston Rodeo cook off was starting and didn't want a busted taillight. I would be driving back a forth a lot these three days and didn't want to risk being pulled over. I went in and asked if he could give me some advice on changing the taillight. Richard was extremely helpful! Went ahead and changed for me. I was so impressed with his helpfulness and feeling like wow I found a Volvo passionate mechanic outside the dealership this is awesome. I asked him what I owe and he said nothing so I graciously thanked him and gave him tickets to our barbecue tent for Saturday. Here is where to story takes a turn. March 8th driving to my fiancé place in Surgarland, pull into the driveway and the car will not go into park!! I can get the shifter into neutral or drive only. The key will not come out of the ignition and the battery is engaged, I leave Richard a panic message letting him know I'm brining the car in on Monday. March 9th after charging a dead battery able to drive it from Sugarland to PVS no issues at all. I get there Richard remembers me and he is going to look into the problem. I had to get to Shinner Texas for a funeral that afternoon. He assured me he would let me know something. I call the next day the battery is dead and can't get the car started. "Pushing it out of the way" his words.. No phone call, I call I get the answering machine as I am sure many of you do too!!! I hate leaving messages. PVS professionals should be keeping the client in the loop as to the progress that is being done. NOTHING from Richard Polk. So as I mentioned in the beginning of this novel, I live close by. Stop in on Friday March 13th cause I like talking to people face to face. Richard is working on other cars I get it, I asked for an update. Says battery is dead, can't get the parking light to come on the dash so it won't turn over the ignition. I can tell my car is exactly the same condition as I dropped it off. Seat has not been moved back Richard is not a small man. The back of my trunk is the same condition (battery housed there) nothing had been moved items are in the same place. In the back of my mind starting to worry about Richard. He seems very focused on his repeat customers, tells me about his niche cliental for 23 years. So new business is not a great concern for him is a thought going through my mind. Read other reviews I'm not alone in this thought. He does stop working on other projects and attempts to get my car started. I arrived around 2:30 and knew he closed at 4pm. Told him multiple times I wanted to respect his time and knew he was going to be closing soon. But as a client I needed to go into the weekend with some idea of what was going on with my primary vehicle. He kept saying you probably wanna be looking for a replacement car... Based upon this attitude of his felt he really wasn't interested in helping me. I didn't say anything I asked him to run the diagnostic test and check things on Monday. He is closed Saturdays another reason for my visit. Let's find out what needs to be replaced. We agreed Monday I would get some answers from PVS. March 16 Monday no phone call, I get answering machine. Tuesday no phone call. Wednesday no phone call. Thursday March 19th I am in the area drive over the PVS around 2:30 cst. I see my car in the exact same spot it was in last Friday. I see Richard Polk he comes up to me and says that the battery is charged but the car is not starting, need to run diagnostic test see what's wrong. Internal computer issue could cost around 1,200 for part. I look Richard in the eyes and say why haven't you called me, given me a professional courtesy phone call. I needed to know this Monday. I did not yell, I did not use an ugly tone of voice I asked him a question. Richard takes offense to this. He says your lucky I'm even here. I get that with the condition of the world. He then tells me to leave doesn't appreciate me just showing up. Puts the chain across the car entrance and tells me to get the F out! Excuse me? I told you to leave and take your car elsewhere, your not allowed past this line. Tossed my car keys to me. So unless your one of Richard Polks regulars CAVEAT EMPTOR! read more

I took my XC60 there for a 40k mike service and it was amazing!!!! The price for that service was half of taking it to the dealership! They told me what else needed to be done to my vehicle as preventative maintenance like new brake pads in the rear. Also quoted him compared to the dealership and he is half the price. Whoever posted a horrible review about him is batty! Sounds like you just wanted a free service! Very personable service, reasonable prices and quick to get the job done! I had an oil change done there. Its cost is ridiculous, at least twice as much. His trick is to itemize everything he ever touched; even for a small washer, he charge you a few dollars plus labor and shop supplies. I don't think I can use his service for my Volvo any more. read more

This is the best Volvo shop on the planet Earth. Is that concise enough. I read some review from some extremely wasted person who did not have the good graces to actually explain herself. Some extreme rant. I don't normally do reviews but she was so far off base that it just pissed me off. I have owned many Volvo cars and still do all these 22 years in Houston. This is the ONLY place I have ever had anything done on the cars. My current Volvo is a 92 with 240,000 miles on it. It will probably only last another 200,000 miles or so. PVS has been taking care of my Volvos for several years. I travel across the Gulf Coast and it's tough to find competent service for a Volvo these days. I came upon Rich by recommendation and I've been pleased. He's got a good knowledge of the older, RWD Volvos and the newer ones with front/all wheel drive. This shop crosses generations. A lot of other shops tend to lean toward one or the other. This is the kind of shop where you make an appointment, drop it off, and come back later. They'll arrange rental cars, if need be, but there are no loaner cars. Look, a Volvo isn't your standard car. Owning one is an involved ownership experience. They aren't a Toyota, for example. You can't run them into the ground and do no maintenance on them and expect them to drive well. And, when they go down, they can go down hard. That makes having a good shop very important to me. Generally speaking, they only use quality parts for their repairs. It's a small operation, so be prepared for that. All in all, I'd recommend them to anyone with a Volvo. Prices are fair, especially when compared to a dealership. If, for any reason, something isn't right, they back up their work and make it right. I drive from far away to use PVS if for no other reason than the lack of competent, independent mechanics to work on Volvos. If you're looking for that, look no further. read more

This shop has bad customer service. They are closed mid-day and they will not bother to tell anyone this important information. Their excuse is since they have been open for a long time, then the customers should already know this. Well excuse me for being a First Time customer to not intuitively know this detail. Nowhere on this Yelp or posted on their business that the entire shop is closed mid day! I gave them a second chance and the One guy there was chatting on the phone. Waited around several mins, still not one to assist me. I wasted over an hour going back and forth with this place and still getting No service. Stay clear of this place if customer service is important to you! say much about the repair service, but the customer service was definitely lacking. I told them I would bring my car by the shop. When I got there the entire shop was closed! The hours were posted from 8-5 Mon-Fri. There was nothing about closing mid-day. I called later and the guy said we are closed from 11:30-12:30 and that has been their policy for 30 years. Well, excuse me for not knowing their 30 yr policy, since I am a First Time customer. After this, I will probably their last customer! He could have mentioned this to me when I called to tell him would be bringing my car there. I decided to give them a second chance. Brought my car there at 1. He was on the phone. Waited for about 10 mins, he is still on the phone. It sounded like he was stretching the call out without any efforts to assist me.
