    Met the truck team today!!
    Rose M.

Discovered this food truck parked behind the Avmed building on Riverplace Blvd on Wednesdays purely by accident. The crew inside this tiny food truck were fun and in a great mood for being out in the cold with no customers. I don't think many people know they are there every wednesday as the crew told me while they started me on a punch card for return visits. All in, it took about 5 minutes to get my order after I had made my decision with numerous recommendations from the crew. I ordered the Brilliant Buffalo Chicken Panini (Chicken breast chunks with peppers, Franks hot sauce and ranch dressing with a slice of american cheese). They gave me fair warning that it was messy and included extra napkins so I wouldn't ruin my desk with my eating. The panini was made with half of a deep pita that had been sliced, filled with ingredients, then grilled to crispy soft goodness. They set it on a bed of lettuce leaf and added a touch of parmesan cheese on top. My only complaint is that I could have used a little less ranch and a little bit more hot sauce - possibly they should offer it on the side. The taste though was heaven! I debated between the mac&cheese, the broccoli & cheese soup or the asparagus and finally settled on the asparagus after viewing the pictures on yelp. The asparagus themselves though were the right call as they were perfectly grilled with a touch of seasoning and served with more of the parmesan cheese sprinkled liberally on top. You can tell that the chef loves asparagus as much as I do as they were just right with none of the horrible white ends full of too much fiber and also not overcooked to limp noodle status. Final verdict? The frequent buyer card has earned a spot on my desk so I can be back every Wednesday - I think I will try the silicon valley panini next!

I stumbled on Professor Panini downtown and decided to try it. I had the Chicken Parm Panini - it was absolutely incredible!!!

So, full disclosure, I'm a sucker for sandwiches. I stumbled on Professor Panini downtown at Riverplace Tower and decided to try it. I had the Chicken Parm Panini - it was absolutely incredible!!! The chicken is hand breaded and fried right in front of you, the provolone cheese was melted and the marinara tasted homemade. It I wasn't holding it like a sandwich, I would've thought i was at a nice Italian restaurant. I would highly recommend Professor Panini to anyone who loves a great sandwich!

The best panini I've had yet!
    Claire M.

The best panini I've had yet, It included avocado, chicken, two different cheeses, and pesto! And the asparagus was cooked to perfection. I wouldn't mind going to the truck for the asparagus alone. It's amazing. The service was fast and the owner is so friendly! I definitely plan on going back again.

Eureka (I have found it)! Hollywood in Florida!!!!…read more JUST like Dr. Indiana Jones combing through the jungles seeking his ancient museum artifacts, I was navigating the curvy wilds of the Jacksonville Southpoint area, located near I-95 and JTB. The best things in life require some effort to build your appetite, and whereas I did not collect a golden idol like Dr. Jones, I was rewarded instead with a cheerful new friend and one of the absolute FRESHEST sandwiches in JAX! Nestled between the sparse woods and surrounding offices you will find happy, loyal diners who fill Hollywood Heroes and Subs each lunchtime to the point where the line stretches out the door. I had just seen the last of the lunch crowd smiling and saying goodbye for the day to our energetic and upbeat host, Founder, sandwich artist and Jacksonville native Kevin Porter, an actor turned restaurateur -- known for roles including "Lazer" in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, plus appearances in Daredevil and General Hospital. Something that cannot be "acted" around was his genuine welcome and desire to roll out the red Hollywood carpet for all who make the journey (yes, it's a REAL red carpet)!! This sweet shop is the perfect size, and has a significant amount of Hollywood memorabilia all around to keep you engaged while chatting with Kevin as he works his magic. And what he produced was a treasure of cheese and meats that made me forget about whatever might have been chasing me through those woods to get there! J/K In between wonderful conversation with Kevin, each bite of my MASSIVE "The Towering Inferno" hot hero (pepperoni, Genoa salami, cappy and melted provolone) on fresh baked Village Bread made me realize just how huge and delicious this thing was. Kevin promised that the one pictured is exactly what every customer will get...he prides himself on highly generous portions at fair prices...and man, did he deliver!! I would have been completely satisfied with HALF, but NO!!!! There sat its twin, begging for sacrifice to the stomach Gods. I was only too happy to oblige! The owner Kevin = engaging, friendly, talented with his craft, makes you feel like you drove through the woods to come home to your happy place. The ambiance = bright, colorful, great memorabilia, puts you as the star of the show. The sandwiches = creative in name and product with fresh being the operative word, this sandwich hit above its price point and I can't wait to try to the rest of the menu! So no, I didn't get chased by a boulder, or leave with Dr. Jones' golden idol, but I did get a Golden Belly from my experience, and the knowledge of why hundreds of hungry lunch- goers seek this "Temple of Delish" every day!! Crack the whip and corral your family into the car for this absolute treat in the core of "ancient Jacksonville!!"

Fortunately, you can avoid some of the wait if you get your food to-go. They have reserved parking spots right next to the entrance and a whole separate area to order to-go food. I came on a Thurs at 1130am and was able to order/leave in 15-20 minutes. What made me fall in love with this place was, believe it or not, the Caesar salad dressing!!! It had so much flavor and was so addicting I ate the salad in 5 minutes. The Hot Italian sandwich had tender flavorful meats, great addition with the banana peppers, and bread was light/fluffy/spot on! The wedding cake was SO GOOD! Layers of moist cake, creamy icing and sweet strawberries. Yum! The inside decor wasn't very fancy but who cares when the food's so good? Will totally be back.

It's hard to beat the value--you can enjoy a quality meal for around $11 per person, which is rare these days. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. It's nice to have a fast-casual restaurant where you can eat something that tastes great without feeling like you're sacrificing nutrition. The restaurant itself is always clean, including the dining area and restrooms, which says a lot about how they operate. Friendly service, great food, fair prices, and a spotless environment make this an easy five-star recommendation. I'll definitely keep coming back.

My first choice was the new cheddar and cheese soup but I would have had to wait. The manager came over and asked how we liked everything. Customer service was at its finest. We were treated to the cheddar broccoli soup since we did not like the lobster bisque. Free refills with the decorative cups to take home as a plus! Money well spent and continue to reminisce about the first time we came to Newks over 10 years ago. Newks has changed but we enjoyed it.

Staff mentioned it was from drinks spilled by other guests, which really showed a lack of proper cleaning. We ordered all six appetizers but only received five, as the Guinness pub cheese never came out. The Reuben eggrolls were a 4/5 and the giant pretzel for two was a 5/5, but the other three appetizers were about a 1/5. The specialty drinks were also underwhelming. Angela's drink was mostly ice with very little flavor, especially disappointing for $15. My Irish cream drink needed ice added several times. I'm also unsure why a 13% gratuity was automatically added when there were only four of us with three separate checks. For two appetizers and two drinks, my bill came to $63 with tip. Very overly priced. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, but she mentioned she was also the bartender, waitress and host, so it seemed like they were understaffed. Unfortunately, between the cleanliness issues, missing item, and underwhelming food and drinks, I'm not sure I'd come back.
