Excellent food and service We went at New Year's weekend and of course like all good places in town it was packed! The service is warm, and very attentive. As someone that has eaten at all of the major eateries in town, I can honestly say it was the best service in town! The food was awesome. I recommend grabbing a pretzel in the bar area while waiting for your table. It's the biggest pretzel I have ever seen, it's surprisingly light and delicious, served with beer cheese dip. We had the special burger, which was great, but we also had the short ribs with baked potato, which was a large portion and exceptional. We did not have enough room in our tummies for the spiked milkshakes, but they looked so amazing we are going back tomorrow to have them. They have live music with a bluesy vibe starting at 6pm. I rate this place highly even though I came here to complain about one of the staff members. I enjoy coming here usually, but I was there over the weekend with a work Christmas party and did not like the service I received from a bartender when I ordered. She was middle aged I think, blonde with her hair in a very styled updo. She seemed like she might even be a bar manager or shift lead. Anyway, I sat at the bar and waited patiently to order. When she got to me I placed an order for three drinks and a shot, telling her which tab it was going on to try and help make things quicker since they were very busy. The whole time she just seemed to have a huge attitude. I was nothing but polite to her, patient and even tried to be quick. I even complimented her hair while she made my drinks to try and get her in a better mood. She made my drinks and all was good, I wish I could describe the attitude she had better. All I can say is that it was the worst attitude a bartender has ever given me, especially for seemingly no reason. I don't know what her problem was but she needs to be spoken to about how she comes off. I didn't return to the bar for any other drinks solely because of how I was treated by her. Had some drinks and lunch here yesterday with some friends and had a great experience. Their red hook cocktail was my favorite. Just a lovely whiskey mixture. We had to wait almost an hour for a table, but we're able to wait at the standing bar. The waitress came by quickly and took our drink and appetizer order and really didn't have to wait to long considering how busy they were. The poutine was delicious! The pretzel app comes with a pretzel larger than your head! And super soft and salty just like you want. It also comes with beer cheese dip and ground mustard dip. Our table marker finally buzzed and we were seated nearby and greeted by a very eccentric waiter that we all loved! I ordered some crispy wings with spicy datil sauce and they were superb and not too spicy by my standards. Also tried the deviled eggs that had some philly cheese steak concoction that day and were very good. Overall just loved the time here and impressed by their ability to keep things moving pretty quickly with the busyness going on. Their whiskey selection is giant too btw. Love it!! read more

We came here to get away for a night & from the outside the place looks fantastic- meat hooks, floating backlit shelves with whiskey & bourbon. The booth we were at had an electrical outlet with USB plugs - obviously to charge your phone. The bar has purse hooks & copious amounts of USB & electrical plugs - pretty convenient. Also an impressive tap! The menu is impressive taking the shape of a newspaper. They have alcoholic milkshakes! I did not participate because I'm on a diet, but I was totally tempted. I opted for a dirty martini- the vodka was so ice cold it had a frosty glaze over it. The olives were hand stuffed with blue cheese. ($10) Our waiter explained the farm to table concept - but he put a lot of explanation into sous vide & explaining in great detail what that was with the making of short rib. I nodded that I understood- because that's a concept I'm very aware of considering we've had meals served to us made with a sous vide - but here lies the issue with the concept of this restaurant there's a lot going on so your waiter can't really hear you & connect to you. I love food & I love learning concepts on how to make it, how local it is, I love the experience. That's where it made me sad. So while Prohibition Kitchen is a really stylish restaurant- it tries to be a lot of things. It's loud, there are a lot of flat screen TVs playing sports. There's a local band playing music. There's a really attractive staff. But figure out what you want to be - a tourist trap, a hipster buzz farm to table kitchen, a venue for locals, or a sports bar. That's the only problem I have with it. The food is pretty good. I'd personally skip the poutine. It was ok, but the gravy was overwhelming & poutine needs cheese curds. I had the black & blue salad ($14) which had the best skirt steak ever it was rare evenly cooked & tender - like butter. I suspect a good amount of their meat is made with a sous vide - do it man, that is the most perfect steak I've had. The pickled red onions were amazing. The salad is a huge portion of salad greens & that same blue cheese- not too much of a bite so it's not overwhelming. My husband had the PK burger ($16) & I took a bite. They really do have the best burgers in town. When you make a burger that has egg, it has be just the right amount of easy to burst perfectly that it's so good there's no need for cheese. (But it does, it has dragon cheese!) This is not a place for a romantic intimate dinner. But it is a place if you want to socialize on a very fun non committal way - really loud music. The cookies and creme milkshake was fantastic! The beer was perfect temperature. Had a nice selection of local beers. The vibe is a cool concept. Order came out and it wasn't what I ordered, the food runner took it back and didn't say anything else. Our server never came back to tell us if they were making what I ordered nor any other update, while my husband got to sit and eat. She set the plate down and said sorry then walked off. A few minutes later she came back and said she pressed the wrong button, probably after hearing me say something about things like this always happening to me. The server still received a 20% tip. When I went to use the ketchup, when opening the lid a bunch of water dropped out (I didn't squeeze it, it didn't seem to be the liquid that separates from ketchup), like the lid had been rinsed off then out back on without drying. Pretty gross. The air fan/vent in the bathroom is covered in dust and there is a noticeable amount of dust on top of the stall walls. Makes me question how clean the place really is. This place is amazing. Great ambiance, great cocktails and the food is heavenly. We had the short rib grilled cheese and the lambwich. My wife and I split them both. The short rib melted in our mouths. The herb au ju with the lambwich was incredible, and the the fries were perfection. We started with old fashions made with St Augustine bourbon and it they were excellent. We'll be making PK a regular stop when we're in at Augustine from now on. read more

This is a place we look forward to go to. Their giant pretzel is amazing as well as the cheese sauce that is served with it. It is normally very crowded and at one point the front desk girl was rude while explaining that. The live bands are enjoyable and the bar is very nice. Would not recommend, and will not go back. Ordered grilled Romaine salad and the lettuce contained sand, all over the leaves. Lettuce was clearly not washed, I don't think even rinsed! I pointed this out to the waiter and he did nothing about it, did not offer to get me anything else, and did not apologize - said it was the "breadcrumbs" on the salad. Sand is not the same as breadcrumbs. If you have ever gotten sand in your food when at the beach, you know it feels like chewing glass, very gritty. This place needs to do better, that kind of service is unacceptable! There are so many places to choose from in St. Augustine, do not waste your time at this place. I can't say enough amazing things about this restaurant! It's more like a restaurant experience really. Live music that lifts you and and cheers you. Great service food that surprises you with how freaking GOOD it is!! I am not kidding you- close your eyes and point to a dish on the menu, you will not be disappointed in the least bit in fact it's a sham to mention disappointment at all because in truth all you will get is amazing dishes that knock your socks off! They have a feel good menu with classic items and a new age twist and it works so well that my husband and have now gone two nights out of of the two nights so far we have been staying in St. Augustine. We picked it because it was number 1 near our hotel, and for good reason. Our server Bradey, as well as the entire staff, was wonderful. We went to PK for lunch on a Wednesday. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The entire ambiance was great. We parked in one of the parking lots not far from the restaurant and walked over. They have a great selection of mixed drinks (highly recommended their hibiscus spritz, so refreshing!). We decided on a few burgers after sampling the PK poutine and fried pickles as appetizers. All the food was amazing! Our server was efficient and knowledgeable. Overall a great experience! No. The server saw us but went to a group of people that just sat down, took the order and delivered their drinks before coming over to us. Overall I ordered and went up to the hostess to ask for our wait she was like 20 mins left... we had already waited 35. Talk about such a terrible experience this is not what I wanted for my sister. Summary: James the security guard did a great job of ruining our experience and getting us out of the restaurant. Being a vegetarian is a choice, yes. But it's 2021, less than a month from 2022. This being said, if you are gonna advertise that you have a 'veggie' burger, please sell something else, Impossible Burger and Beyond Burger are two options that are accessible to all. My girlfriend and I visited last night, both ordered the veggie burgers. At first they aren't 'bad', but after it is on the plate the 'burger' starts to lose its shape and it's consistency becomes mush. Almost like the entire middle section of the burger isn't cooked. Now you're left with a mushy, messy, falling apart sandwich that becomes less desirable by the bite. I wonder if the cooks or managers have ever tasted one of these, because I have a feeling if they had, they would just purchase a product that will bring customers back. Like I said being vegetarian is a choice, so I am aware this is my 'problem', but it sure would have been nice to enjoy the $50 meal we had there. read more

This past weekend we played tourists in St. Augustine and while there dropped into Prohibition Kitchen for lunch. First off the place is beautifully designed and flows nicely. The upstairs seating is a good touch. That's where we were seated. However we do have a 3 years old so being seated upstairs was kind of scary since she could have fell over the rails; it would be nice to have some fencing up there. Secondly service at PK was great. Our server Rebecca did an awesome job taking care of us while we dined. She answered all of our questions and made sure we were enjoying our meal the whole time. Thirdly the food is great too. We ordered the charcuterie board which had a wonderful selection of meats, cheeses, and spreads for only $19. We also got the boiled peanuts which were good, but a little bland; maybe more salt when cooking would help. PK has a full bar and a great selection of drafts on tap. I'd love to come here to sample some of the beers they have on tap one day. read more

Prohibition Kitchen is tucked in amongst the bustling hub of St Augustine's historic George Street area. Located next to Pizzalleys a larger group of us decided to give this place a try on a recent trip home. I must admit was I was apprehensive as I was not in the mood for an overpriced restaurant with ok food, I was happily proven wrong! This place is huge, it looks to seat about 100-125 tables plus the bar area and standing rails. It is awesome in decor, rustic and yet industrial, its like a 20's style speakeasy set in a waterfront warehouse! The light fixtures are old school metal and the ambiance is more of a secretive yet welcoming aura of the age it represents! They take no call aheads and no reservations our wait was quoted at an hour and a half for a party of 6! We were seated in about 75 minutes so I will take that as a win! When we were seated the surprises kept on coming! Upon perusing the menu everything is remarkably well priced and sounds absolutely awesome. For appetizers we ordered the County Line Boiled Peanuts, Pork Rinds and the poutine! The peanuts were a tad spicy but delicious if you like the cajun peanut style, the pork rinds were crunchy and had some sort of lime cilantro flavor, and the poutine of fries, cheese curds, chives and sour cream was absolutely divine. For my entree I ordered the Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich!! It was so tender, the sourdough grilled to perfection, and the cheese was creamy, one of the best I have ever had in my life. For cocktails, which if you choose to imbibe you absolutely should try here, our table went nuts. I ordered the build your own old fashioned with Buffalo trace bourbon, peach bitters and simple syrup, nectar of the gods, I kid you not! Some other drink highlights were, the alcoholic bananas foster milkshake, also amazing though not recommended if you get the sugar shakes, and we also had a brown crush, which is some bourbon based ginger beer cocktail! Additionally we had some other morsels of libation which I can't remember but I do remember there was not a single complaint. The bill was like 38 bucks for our appetizer, the food, cocktails and tax! Service was absolutely impeccable and the staff is awesome! I will echo one concern that others have had, its so loud in there! The music is awesome and the band was particularly good but carrying a conversation or even hearing what the waiter was saying was almost impossible. That being said I would just damp it down during the dinner rush and maybe not have a full band! I've been wanting to try and make it to PK for quite some time now. I finally did with my family when we were visiting St Augustine. It was definitely worth getting there right around opening time so we didn't have to fight a crowd or crazy wait times. The bourbon brownie milkshake is definitely worth it and the prohibition era/speakeasy theme and the 1920s newspaper menus really build up an enjoyable atmosphere that anyone can enjoy. The food is top notch, the service is even better. Definitely looking forward to making it down there again for more alcoholic milkshakes. read more

This review is specifically for Prohibition Kitchen as a music venue. As a bar, it's good and probably deserves the four-star ratings. As a music venue, it's one of the worst I've ever experienced. The stage is average sized, but we were there to see Squirrel Nut Zippers, which has nine members. They were crammed on the stage, though they made the absolute best of it. The bar is deep but not particularly wide, so people standing to watch the show went deep into the bar. If you're a VIP, you can sit at tables on the mezzanine, but if you're a normal, you're either standing in front of the stage, sitting at one of the high-backed booths (from which you can't see the stage), or sitting much farther back in the bar. If you're sitting at one of the high backed booths nearer the stage, expect for people to lean their butts on your table or otherwise block your view. Apparently recognizing this, the bar has mounted a multitude of flat-panel TVs on the wall over the actual bar. Watching SNZ on TV for $40 a ticket was not cool. While less of a concern, the menu during the show was reduced to a 4x6 inch card offering about six things. Anyway, the bar may be awesome, but as a music venue for a remotely popular band, it leaves a tremendous amount to be desired. read more

I love the feel of this place. And the service is excellent, from hostesses to wait staff to bartenders. That applies to the staff on hand for the Matisyahu concert to the staff on hand at a usual Wednesday night. The music is always good and it's always playing. Don't come here expecting easy casual conversation! I love the drinks (Moscow mule and old school daiquiri are on point), large list of whiskeys and a nearly endless tap line. The pretzel comes on a giant banana hook and it's amazing. My PK burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a great runny yolk and onion jam. It reminded me of my favorite burger at mas famoso Bernie's Burger Bus in Houston. The devilled eggs were tasty with some jalapenos and pulled pork on top. The super attentive and prompt service really make this place worth making it a regular haunt for me and my many visitors. Thanks to tourists, I had a 45 minute wait for a 4 top table, that was a bit unexpected considering it was Wednesday .... during Spring Break (new local trying to adapt to living in a tourist area). I yearn for the OpenTable option! But it wasn't bad, we just waited outside and chatted on a perfect March night in St. Augustine. The food is good and on point, but for the term "gastropub" I was hoping for something a bit edgier.
