A very pleasant, comfortable place for coffee and a nibble. The staff is friendly and the simple, airy space is a nice relief from the rough-hewn wood aesthetic one finds in so many upscale coffee bars these days. The quality of what they offer is high - although the sourness of the coffee, common in artisanal establishments, is not to my or many others' taste. The baked things are excellent and, with some will power, large enough for more than one serving, especially considering the prices, which are astonishingly high. A small iced coffee and a scone - $8.00? It's not much of a stretch to understand why the demographic is not, shall we say, reflective of the local community. read more

Lovely cafe, bright and airy. Can't go wrong with Stumptown. My only complaint is that I paid $5 for 2 skimpy scoops of yogurt and 1 spoonful of Granola. I get it's from Ovenly but still not worth the price. read more

I wasn't impressed at all with this place and was rather disappointed in the customer service. In most cases, when you purchase a 12oz bag of (Stumptown) whole bean coffee you get a free complimentary cup of coffee to go along with it. The workers gave me a funny look and basically insulted my intelligence when I brought this up. They acted like they have not heard of such a thing. Well they missed out on a $15 sale. And then I ordered a small black coffee and they completely forgot about my order and I had to remind them. I recommend going to Lenox coffee where the customer service is a lot better. read more

So happy ACP is open now! It seems like many of us have been following the progress on Harlem Bespoke. The area has been sorely lacking a simple coffee shop and this space really fills the void. I get my requisite iced coffee there most mornings now. The baristas are extremely friendly -- it's always a great way to start my day. read more

I am a big coffee lover, and was SO excited when this establishment opened up just a couple of blocks from my home. I've visited ACP at least 10 times now - sometimes for a quick take-away, other times to sit and linger. I wish that I could give ACP 4 or 5 stars, but unfortunately there are a few too many issues that prevent me from upping the rating: - On at least 3 occasions (that works out to 30%), I have shown up well before closing time and found that either a) they are closing an hour early that day or b) they have already shut down the espresso machine in advance of closing. That's not a great track record, especially for a coffee shop with already very limited hours of operation. - As an eco-conscious consumer, I always come prepared with my personal mug. Not only do I not get a mug discount, but I often get my mug 2/3 filled. I do realize that it's a large mug and may exceed the standard cup sizes offered at ACP (thus they are within their right to skimp on the coffee); however, every other coffee shop I frequent in the NYC area gladly fills my mug without worrying about splashing in an extra ounce or two of java. I will also note that I am disappointed with ACP's decision to keep the milk behind the counter, so that I can't customize the amount of creamer I add to my coffee - again, the only coffee shop that does this of the dozens in the city that I frequent. - Finally, if I walk an extra 3 blocks, I can get my personal mug FILLED with Stumptown coffee (and also have total control of my milk : coffee ratio) at Lenox Coffee, where I am charged a competitive $2.45, instead of a bloated $3.81 for a less full cup at ACP. Bottom line: I will continue to patronize ACP when I want a pleasant (relatively quiet) place to sit with a coffee and chat with a friend or catch up on email; but when the weather's fine and I'm getting a cup to go, I will continue to choose Lenox Coffee. I'm worried that ACP won't last the year with its current business practices, though I do hope I'm wrong as it's a charming spot and a nice addition to the neighborhood. read more

A great place to work and enjoy a coffee; the latter being not even that expensive for NY standards :) Free water and wifi. But the best of this location is it's desk at the windowfront which is open during warm days. I wrote some papers here and plan to come back for some more. read more

Hit or miss with the actual taste of the coffee. I've been a couple of times, and both times was disappointed. Service wise, and taste wise. Plus is that they carry doughnut plant doughnuts. If for anything, check them out for this. read more

Ive gone here several times giving the place the benefit of the doubt. With only one person working behind the counter during peak hours sometimes I've waited up to 15 minutes just for a drip coffee while someone else's avacado toast was being prepared ahead of me. I get that it was only one person and I'm not a pushy customer I was patient enough. After giving the customer in front of me their avacado toast, instead of asking what i would like the worker began opening a container that was tightly wrapped that could have waited. I had to demand they serve me a drip coffee. Opening a container of plastic wrap that took what seemed to take a whole minute was not necessary. I asked for a large coffee and it only filled half way and they asked if I would like an americano... no thank you. A few weeks later I said to myself well I'll give them another chance. Large coffee please! Oh sorry! Can you wait 10 minutes for a new pot to brew we're all out. HELLO!!!!! You have 1 job as a barista and that is to make COFFEE... not spend 5 minutes opening boxes while a customer is waiting. And not taking 15 minutes to make avacado toast. Whoever owns this place needs to find Barista's that can multi task more efficiently. read more

I cannot believe what I just experienced on historical Adam Clayton Powell Jr. BLVD. I walked into this establishment very excited because a couple friends said they had good coffee. However, after only 30 seconds inside, I could sense from the body language of the hipster mafia (the barista and flannel clad cashier) that I was not welcome. Some context: I am a Southern Black American so I admit to being used to a sort of warmth when I enter a business. I am under no illusion that NYC is anything like the South, but after visiting New York for over a decade, I have grown accustomed to Harlem hospitality and my experience at ACP just left a bitter taste in my mouth and left me sad about the direction Harlem could soon be headed in. Let me drill down to the specifics of my bad expereince: (1) The subtle disgust from the staff when I asked basic questions about what kind of coffee they brew; (2) The stale lemon raspberry poppyseed loaf and clearly frozen Linder-esque bagel; (3) The piss poor attitudes of the staff - no 'good morning', no 'thank you', no 'come back and see us', no NOTHING. I was appalled because I have so much respect for the small business owners and mom/pop storefronts of Harlem. I was appalled because Harlem is distinctive in their treatment of ALL people from ALL backgrounds (not just the Patagonia wearing, Herschel backpack toting, self-proclaimed "liberals". There's a warmth to Uptown, an ode to Southern hospitality that cannot be replicated in any other part of NYC (due in large part to the Southern Black American and Caribbean influence). I was appalled because this establishment names itself after the honorable Reverend/Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. - a civil and human rights trailblazer. How could I walk into a business with the namesake of an American civil rights pioneer and be treated like a patron at a 1950s whites-only lunch counter? Not only will I never return, but I am writing this (my first-ever Yelp review) as a disclaimer to others that this place is completely FRAUDULENT and disrespectful to everything Harlem stands for. Please avoid at all costs. read more

I was very excited to see this coffee shop open on my block. I have patronized it several times. However, after giving it a fair try, I find that the lack of responsive staff behind the counter will stop me from spending money there. They seem friendly enough, just can't seem to get a simple order right. Which translates into. I don't care what you are ordering or whether you even return...I choose not to return. read more

They opened up this week and I had high hopes for this new addition to the neighborhood but I was disappointed. It was very dirty (I understand they are just starting and are still in transition but the floor was full of dust, the bathroom toilet seat and sink were really dirty and there were many spider webs...). The coffee is overpriced ($1 more than other coffee shops in the neighborhood) and too roasted. I hope they will adjust. read more
