Imagine you just left a bar nearby and you're not quite ready to go home but you're not necessarily looking to get into it club scene with sloppy 20 something year olds...enter PSC. She's down a dark ally (no joke) trust the neon pink light as you walk towards it like a moth to a flame. Immediately you've found the dive bar of your dreams. She opens to the ally greeted by casual smokers and live music. There's gays, they's and everyone else. Drink menu is top notch. The bartender, well she's a vision and pours a mean drink. It feels criminal to bring this much attention to this social club, I'd hate to have to wait in a line but I loved it here. read more

I thought the space was great! Loved the decor and vibe and the live music was a 5/5 with Gary Pak on Piano and Greg on drums. But this review is about the service. It was bad. I never went to a bar where I didn't feel welcomed in Chinatown. It was hard to get service but maybe the bartender was having an off day or he just didn't like me. But if the live music wasn't happening I would have left after waiting 30 min. They have a happy hour and he said they didn't, only to come back and say they did. I'd like to go back and give it another shot. The drink was ok. Chios and salsa state and I would not recommend getting it! Save the $5. Proof Social Bar provides the islands a unique charm. I enjoyed it when they had food, pizza, and reasonably priced cocktails. They seem to remove the food, limit their pizza, and increase the cocktail prices. For a $15 cocktail I would expect craft cocktail quality, but many of the bartenders cocktails have a dive bar quality to them. The redeeming gem is when Nikki bartends. Her drinks have a craftsmanship quality and are consistent. It's a bummer because if the drink wasn't great I at least had good food. read more

10/6/23 had a show out here and got two slices of pizza. Unfortunately they didn't have any of the specialty pizza but I'll be back again for them. The pizza is out on the display and you just let the staff know which ones you want so they can pop it in the oven. It's so good! Music was kickin'. The people were dancing and having a good time. Only thing was the toilet in the bathroom didn't flush. Yeah. Oh well. Proof is the bomb. Come here and eat pizza. Have a drink. Enjoy live music. read more

Haven't been since pre-Covid. Empty but it was like 5pm so maybe little too early for a Saturday? Did take out since we went holoholo during the day and just wanted to get home. My gfs ordered slices of pizza. I got the garlic knots since I was going to make pasta at home. Got home. Opened it...at first glance I thought wow, lotsa cheese and garlicky goodness. Proof Social Club is such a cute bar! My friends and I love coming here to support the local drag queens... yes, they are very much LGBT friendly, and we love that! We ordered a few mimosas, along with the French Peasant (this was a meat and cheese board). The mimosas were light, fresh, and served in super cute mason jars. The meat and cheese board was arranged very nicely, and tasted amazing! My favorite was the creamy cheese on the bread, with some salami on top. I was looking online for food spots and bars in O'ahu and found this pizza joint that served cocktails. I saw that this place served fried rice pizza and mac n cheese pizza so I was instantly intrigued. This place is hidden in an alleyway off a small street so you may or may not have some trouble finding this place. It turns out that they can't do specialty pizzas by the slice which is a shame. They have some classic pizzas that they can do by the slice but the specialty ones on their menu can only be ordered by the whole. I ordered a slice of the meat and pepperoni pizzas which were both good. For drinks I ordered the keeper of her keys ($11) which the bartender described as a piña colada but not frozen. My second drink was the necromancer ($11) and both cocktails were good. I want to give a shoutout to my bartender Chrissy who was so nice and friendly! There is a pool table that you can play for some quarters so this is a place that you can come to for a slice of pizza, a beer, and shoot some pool with friends. read more

All the food at Proof Social Club is excellent, most especially the pizzas! The prices are good too :-) I've been here multiple times and tried several pizzas; the mac and cheese pizza was interesting, through I doubt I'd order it again. On the other hand, the smores pizza is totally The Bomb! Unfortunately, they don't make smores pizza slice pies very often; we just happened to luck out the last time we were here. If they happen to have any when you check this place out, be sure to get yourself a slice - it's completely awesome! The one was refunded after I had to ask repeatedly for my money back. The other, my friend drank just because he didn't want to wait for the head to settle. The bartender(s) were rookies at best, please review the footage you're boasting about and look at the first beer that was delivered to us. Grab your ruler too, based on what is "acceptable", the beer should have never been given to a patron. Hopefully you can train your bar tenders, and yourself, to raise the bar past acceptable and aim for perfection. I went around the corner to J. Dolans, you should try it. Toward the end of a night out, a friend decided we should check this place out. After all, they had a beer he'd been craving but missed out on at our favorite haunts. We ended up staying a while and enjoyed being here due to great food, beer, and pool. Located off of Fort Street Mall at the end of Chinatown, it's easy to get to by bus, walking around downtown, or flat rate parking in any of the Chinatown public garages. The bar has a very mainland hipster feel with tile, old walls, dark colors, and vintage fixtures. The smell reminded me of nights in the past in old towns on the east coast. First and foremost, the reason to come here is the pizza. We had one with meat and easily split the whole thing. The dough was the way it should be, just done enough, with great cheese and sauce. They have so many options to choose from, ingredients were fresh. Prices are a little on the high size for portions, but worth the quality. They also have salads and other related dishes. We stayed a while to enjoy the pool table that costs $1 game; cue sticks and tips were kept nice. Lighting in the place is just bright enough to see the game. They have a full bar and great beer program - not a huge selection but a very well tailored one. This isn't a place to come get drunk on cheap beer. Smokers can light up in the alley outside the restaurant. Restrooms were clean. read more

MIMOSAS!! Before this visit, my only (blurry) memories of Proof Public House were late night, sticky floors, drunk people, pool table.. Brunch is a completely different story, except for the fact that you can driiiink! I haven't seen bottomless mimosas anywhere for a long time. While these technically aren't bottomless, they're $12 for the first and only $2 each for any additional. Do the math, and it's probably cheaper than any bottomless place you've gone to before, especially because they give heavy pours! Choose from a variety of juices - lilikoi and pineapple were our group's favorites. I honestly had low expectations for food, but I had no idea that their pizza is actually legit! We came in a large group, so we probably ordered most of the brunch menu. The thick cut bacon was the all-star. We actually got a plate of just bacon! The sandwiches are excellent, served on freshly baked ciabatta. My only criticism is that I wish the egg was runny. And of course, the pizza was good and huge! All the food is super reasonably priced and good portions. Although the food took almost an hour to come out, we were understanding because their kitchen is tiny, and we had at least 15 people. Plus, it was only their 2nd week of brunch service, and they were still training staff. We didn't mind because the mimosas were flowing steadily. I would've given 5 stars anyway based on just the mimosas. Since the food it delish too, this is for sure a super solid 5 stars. I will be back! read more

After reading a few recent Yelp reviews including our awesome CM's review and after my very first visit to Proof Public House, this place is legit!! Glancing thru the photos and menu on Yelp, I wanted to try their pizza. esp. the mac and cheese pizza, I thought of my son, since he loves mac and cheese & pizza- this would be the perfect pizza for him.I brought him along so we could try it together. I wasn't sure if it was ok to bring a 15 yr old to a bar, I called to see if it was ok, note: Minors are allowed before 4 pm. My first visit, I still wasn't sure where Proof Public House is located, I followed the GPS on my phone, coming back from an Oregon trip recently, this place is hipster. I like the patio area and love the plants out in front. When we entered we were greeted by a nice gentlemen, we sat and got our menus. The menu is simple, I already had my mind set on the mac and cheese pizza and my son was excited about it. We placed our order for the pizza & waited patiently. It wasn't very long until we got our pizza. If you are a fan of mac & cheese, pizza, & bacon- you must get this pizza. I had 2 slice and my son finished the rest. This pizza was amazing!! It sure does fill you up. I enjoyed this pizza, even the crust is good. 18.00 for this pie with 7 slice. I don't like to drink alcoholic beverage with my son around, but I just had to, I got the special beer of the month, my first time trying and enjoyed it.They do have Happy Hour, 1.00 off all drinks, from 4-7 everyday. There are multiple TV's for catching NFL or NBA game and even a pool table located in the front corner, which is $1.00 per game. What a great place to hang out. All in all, We had a great time, at this cool/hipster pub and I plan to be back with the hubby & friends for more pizza & alcoholic beverages. #42/100 for 2017 read more

We attended the Brazilian Festival here. It was okay, but way over priced. It's a really small bar so we were surprised they had an event there. Food was subpar. There was barely any standing room. The employees were nice but I don't think I would go out of my way to come here again. It could have been a fun event if maybe they spilled out into the alleyway. read more

Amazing sandwiches! Had dinner there last night; wifey had the deli sandwich and I had the Cubano. They were both really, really good. Use of the pizza dough for bread is brilliant and adds a great dimension to the sandwiches. While I did have some issues with use of my Groupon (no problem last night), I'd definitely eat here again but just the sammiches. We've had their pizzas twice which were okay but not great. Except the smores pizza which is over the top awesome but very, very rare. For regular pizza, Dolan's is better we think. But -- for sandwiches, this is THE go-to place from now on. read more

Proof Public House has been on the to do list since a Yeep, Joe M, mentioned that he preferred Proof to JJ Dolans. Things finally came together when we were talking about a Sunday family dinner. I suggested pizza and Proof- glad I wasn't overruled about the location and type of dinner. Think the selling point was the fact that there's free street parking & discounted municipal parking on Sundays nearby! It took a bit to find their alleyway entrance. As others have mentioned, definitely a very dive bar vibe. The poor sole bartender served drinks, took orders, bussed the tables, and basically did everything in the front of the house. I'm sure the back of the house was similarly manned. There are daily specials and Sundays is Happy Hour all day (drinks and beers $1 off). After we got some drinks we ordered the garlic cheese bread as a pupu, with the fully proofed combination pizza and a veggie calzone for main dishes. The pizzas come in one 13" size as well as slices of varying types. My step-father opted to be the odd man out by going for the slice and salad combo special. The drinks and the cheese bread soon came. They were a great way to whet your appetite for the main course. My step-dad was happy with his order, it turned out to be a generous quarter-slice and salad! The fully proofed combo pizza was a home run, having three meats and three vegetables without the crust being soggy. As a matter of fact, the crust was the best thing about it- crispy with good carmelization- ono! The calzone was good in its own way, but pizza crust edged it out. Total with tax and tip for five people came out to about $80, pretty good for what we got. Proof is firmly on my Oahu pizza rotation. Saturday or Sundays would be the best days for me to go back with less downtown congestion and better parking availability. Will repeat and definitely recommend! I haven't had a JJ Dolan's pizza in a long time, so it wouldn't be fair if I compared them. It would be fun to try! UYE anyone? read more

WORST SERVICE IN THE WORLD. EMMA and NIKKI almost lost/stole my debit card!! I started a tab but my husband insisted on paying with cash for the remainder of our drinks. I eventually asked them to close my tab and they came back saying we never had a tab to begin with? and that we "paid it off with cash. we just didn't tip yet". This was our first bar of the night so we wouldn't forget or make up having a tab open. She was nice up until that point. As we're insisting we do have a tab, Nikki kept going off on how we didn't tip. Obviously! we didn't get our bill yet! She was all bent out of shape about a tip I never even got the chance to give, but after that performance, why should I? I've never had a bartender/waiter ask for a tip so aggressively, let alone at all. Anyway, she kept reswiping through the stack of cards looking for mines. We understand bartending gets busy but losing someone's card is not acceptable. And how are we in the wrong for simply asking to close our tab? Eventually Emma somehow finds my card somewhere else but tries to be sneaky and slip the card into Nikki's hand as if we wouldn't see that happen right infront of us? WHAT WAS THE REASON?? I cannot make this up. Even after realizing their mistake they still continued to give a lot of attitude. A normal bartender - heck a normal PERSON - would say something like "oh we actually have it right here. So sorry about that. Let me go close your tab right now". Nope, absolutely no accountability. I was walking to Fort St Cafe when I realized the doors were open at Proof. I peeked in to find people drinking and having a good time. As I went in to take a look, the decor looked similar to before...but there is a lively spirit inside that is welcoming. I immediately walked over to the pizza case to peruse the pies. I asked the flavors and they ranged from Pepperoni to Fried Rice pizza! I settled on the spinach tomato, garlic, and fresh mozzarella pie. As I waited for my slice to 'warm up', I noticed a nice selection of liquor......mmmm. When I was handed my piping hot slice, I couldn't wait to dig in. The crust was thin and crispy and the flavor was well balanced. The crust had a nice chew, but not to chewy....so good! I cant wait to go back and try the fried rice pizza! read more

Finally, a worthy challenger for the best pizza in downtown. Thank you Proof Public House for reminding me what real cheese tastes like after eating way too much of the shredded bag stuff. The Fried Rice Pizza is a winner. Great hand-tossed, chewy crust that didn't get soggy after it was cut. Creative kim chee fried rice toppings: char siu, bacon, and pocho sausage to satisfy the salty, carnivor; kimchee and oyster sauce for a bit of crunch and loads of flavor; and sweet peas and carrots for whimsy. The flavors are harmonious the way good fried rice should be. I also loved the Jalapeno Mac and Cheese Pizza, it tasted like jalapeno poppers and totally worked. The Chicken, Bacon, Mushroom, and Onion Pizza is mild, with light favors. If you are looking for a more traditional pizza, try the Pepproni, Sausage, Roasted Tomato and Basil, it's a familiar combo with lots of flavor. The Proof Chef Salad is worth ordering. I love smoked fish and the salmon didn't disappoint. The greens were fresh, the corn, avocado, and onions added texture and flavor and the dressing is house made. Appearance wise, Proof Public House is a no frills neighborhood bar with nods to the 20's. The walls are charcoal gray and hung with black and white photos and there is a chandelier. There is one wall with tables and bar seating, a couple TVs, a pool table, music pumping, and at night they use a projector to play a movie on the wall across the alley. Proof sells pizza by the slice and whole pies. Come here for lunch and pick up a couple slices from the case or do the pizza-salad combo. After work, stop by to relax and hang out with friends. When I heard that Mercury was closing I have to say that I assumed that it would be replaced by another bar. Downtown Honolulu has quite a few bars so I can't say that it really cared to have another one. So when a friend of mine asked me to join her for a drink I didn't expect much. I mean, I love my friends. I would enjoy myself almost anywhere if they were there but Proof represented itself quite well. So well, in fact that I've returned a few times since my last visit. It is conveniently close to my downtown HPU classes. If you're in FS or MP and hear a band playing at night, then it's probably Proof asking you to allow yourself a break from your usual day. I absolutely love this place! Not only because it's one block from my apartment, but because it's everything I would want in a dive bar without it having to be divey. Although it is situated in a back alley of Chinatown, it's in a better part of town where you don't see many homeless people and also where a lot of Hawaii Pacific University students hang out. I know this venue from when it was mercury, which was also a really awesome bar, lounge, and music spot. It's cool to see what it's turned into for the better. My favorite things about this bar are: good drinks, usually good music, fantastic/innovative pizza, and a pool table. Also, sometimes they run a film/movie on the wall outside of the bar. Speaking of their pizza, I think it's the best in Chinatown. If you want to cool place to hang out and grab a drink this is the place to do it. read more

It reminds me of a college bar. Movie screens located on either side of the Proof place makes it more interesting. The menu offers a pizza salad combo. You can order either a Greek salad or Caesar salads. The bar serves an array of drinks. This draws the locals in during lunch time. A good meet place for lunch and for friends. The atmosphere feels relaxed. When you walk into his place you automatically feel the tension melt away. A good place to get away even for a moment. read more

we went for a drag brunch which was completely disorganized. The queens were PERFECT. But everything else was kind of confusing, we purchased tickets which included a free mimosa, bartender didn't know what juices he had to make mimosa with. The food was really subpar, we wanted the breakfast pizza which included hasbrowns but wanted to make sure there was a lot since we really like hasbrown, we asked the waiter who was also the bartender, he literally said "oh I have no clue" and actually there was no hasbrown on our pizza??? It was very lowkey and I think that all of us who actually attended were just all trying to make the best out of a really disorganized and awkward situation so thankfully the crowd was all on the same page because the queens showed up ready and organized. Overall the drinks were just ok and I didn't dare order something other than a mimosa because my friend did try and the bartender couldn't tell her the brunch menu drinks because he said they didn't have one. We looked online and found one on their website??? but he seemed like someone just asked someone on the street: "can you make drinks!?" and he was like "yea kinda" and then they threw him in to wait and bartend.
