PROTECT YOUR HOME EQUITY!! The Strickland Home Inspection report was reviewed independently by a certified electrician and a certified HVAC technician who stated the report was bogus in many areas. Stricklund Home Inspections are crooks and align themselves with shady real estate agents to take YOUR hard earned equity during a home sale. If you are selling a home, walk away if the buyer is represented by Strickland Home Inspections. You WILL pay for it in the end like me. Otherwise have an escort. Picture examples below. The electrician stated it would take "great physical force" to remove this breaker and not normal wear and tear from it being installed and working correctly since 2008 until this inspection. The buyers wanted a new furnace so Stricklund Home Inspections stated in their inspection report that the furnace was leaking CO2 at a rate of 1600 parts per million or ppm. Minnesota Energy sent a certified HVAC technician who only found 22 ppm and said the furnace did not need to be replaced, AND the inspector did not even do the furnace inspection correctly because he never shut off the gas or red tagged the gas line. Very dishonest, unethical and illegal.

It gave us the confidence we needed to place a really strong offer on our house. When we got into the house however, we quickly found many issues. The oven did not work. In the inspection documentation it stated that the oven was working and was heated up. If they had actually done that, they would have found that it had a broken igniter which causes the house to fill with gas. Since moving in we've had multiple services that have needed to be done - expected maintenance of owning a new house. Each of the professionals we've had come to complete these services, including new oven install and plumbing, they've told us the same thing: "Wow, I can't believe this wasn't caught in your inspection.", "This is definitely not up to code." are among the phrases we've heard repeatedly. It's getting tiring to hear that after having one thing after another need to be fixed. They did not do a thorough job with our inspection and I would not recommend their services. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that I have heard our city is pretty strict on their guidelines, but that shouldn't excuse this negligence. The oven issue could have seriously caused us harm and we were naive to put our trust in peace of mind.

Now that the process has been completed, I can absolutely say he was right! Pillar to Post went above and beyond merely checking off a necessary box in the home buying process. After thoroughly exploring their online presence, we chose to utilize their midrange option (Premium) over the Plus or Prestige options. I was helped in making this decision by Taylor, the office manager for the branch, who pleasantly addressed all my questions over the phone, and who assisted me in setting the next available inspection appointment. Taylor also communicated promptly via text when I had a few more questions come to mind. I met the inspector, Eric, on our appointment date in our home. I'd arrived a bit early on premises, and he let me in to relax while he finished up with his tasks. We made pleasant small talk during this time, including asking our plans for the home (I was giddy to share it's gonna be our forever home). I liked his casual affect, treating the situation more like making a new acquaintance rather than just being there to do a job and dip, you know? He even let me play with the thermal imaging gun to look around my home. That was fun. Once he finished up his reports on his tablet, we began to do our walkthrough so he could identify specific points of interest and recommended repairs, updates, etc. My parents owned a couple of rentals when I was growing up and often put me to work helping fix them up between renters, so I have a basic understanding of quite a few handy tasks involving home upkeep/repair. Eric cottoned onto this quickly and discussed things with me like an equal, rather than acting like he was the expert (even though clearly, he was very much an expert!). His attitude was greatly appreciated. Eric was thorough as we went through the home and gave me answers to questions as they came up while I scribbled down notes; at the end he gave me his mobile number in case any more questions popped up after the conclusion of the inspection. It was fun getting to learn a little more about our future home, sleuthing about and making discoveries. His part in the process definitely helped me curate a priority list for the various projects that will restore the place to full glory! The online portal and digital reports were ready to be viewed by the time I drove back to our apartment. I've explored it quite a bit and am a fan. Beyond the simple document containing all the notes and pictures from the inspection, they also created a 360 degree walkthrough I can click through (kinda like Google Earth), and a Digital Owners Manual (that lists all our appliances in detail). Another neat thing is that any future concerns/questions/recommendations we can get through them as part of the package we paid for! We just need to call or use the online portal. Really neat! I'm sure this will prove valuable in the future. We also purchased one of their add-on options, the sewer scoping, which was conducted on the following day. Keenan, the technician who did the scope, was prompt about uploading the footage and connecting it to my account for viewing. He provided helpful verbal commentary, which corresponded to the displayed length on screen (e.g. to access points, connection to city sewer, etc.). Payment could be completed prior to inspection or upon conclusion; they were flexible. I chose to pay after. Do note, they don't take Discover though (which was how I was originally intending to pay... instead I just made my husband do it, LOL!). Overall, very pleased! :D

For example, he said a door "may need repair", when it was actually completely rotted out and needed immediate replacement at a cost of over $7000 dollars for a comparable door. We missed the chance to not buy the house or at least let the previous owner fix it. When I questioned something too old in the house, he said you should go buy a new house. There are three showers and only one works. He didn't find it and we found it until we lived in it. He didn't find the basement problem at all. I highly suspect his abilities and he won't take responsibility for anything. When I contacted about the problems he didn't find, he quickly blocked my cellphone # which shocked me as I paid over $500 and he did a bad job. Please be careful if your realtor recommends you Jim Thompson, don't trust what he says. Find an engineer to verify everything for you again.

The discovery of a gas leak is one of the most important parts of an inspection, as a gas leak can be one of the most deadly malfunctions to occur in a house. We reached out to Ron after this and requested a refund for the inspection because of this hazard, but he was unwilling to meet our request. Ron was also dismissive of my concern and defensive. I would not recommend Ron's services to future homebuyers.
