First impression...a very trendy, hipster kind of place, striking white interior with nostalgic penny tile floor, and pleasant faces that warmly greeted us. It was tough being forced to gaze on a glassed-in display case of gorgeous baked goods that I could only admire and covet, but not have. This was my test of endurance for the day. My first concern after hearing they only had light roasted coffees was dispelled once I tasted the Honduras roast. Hubby got the Peruvian roast, described as more fruity. They were both offered as the pour-over coffee choices for that day. Close in flavor as much as I could tell, the Honduras was slightly less acidic. It grew on me the more I sipped. Yes, very good. Prospect hands down has the best coffee in Ventura. The location and decor in the shop is so fresh and clean. Plenty of seating and always friendly staff. Based on the exterior, it looked like a cute little spot to grab a coffee but for now they have a window for pick up. Tried nitro cold brew and a specialty drink that piqued my interest called solimar - only for coconut cream and sea salt fans, a unique pairing for coffee for sure! It was so balanced and not too sweet but definitely still a treat. The cold brew was not to my taste (I really don't like fruity coffees) and the nitro was super flat. Not sure if they change up their beans for their cold brew. I would definitely go for a specialty drink here - seem to be very balanced in all their combo choices and they serve oat milk here as well. Regardless, their cold brew is very good and one of my coffee highlights during our vacation throughout California this week. Their cold brew is smooth, strong, and wasn't acidic. I highly recommend PCR's cold brew. My wife had their Sparkling Honey-Lavender Matcha and stated that she enjoyed her drink. PCR also has a few pastries. There's tables and a counter inside as well as some seating outside. Their main menu is on the wall and specialty drinks by the register. Overall, I'm a fan of PCR. The weather was perfect too. This coffee is naturally so yummy. I normally add 2-3 packs of sugar in my coffee. I ordered lattes for my sis, brothers gf, and myself. They urged me to try it how it was as it was good. I did and to my surprise it wasn't as sugary as I normally have my coffee but it was surprisingly pleasant and tasted yummy. Also ordered a ham and cheese pastry that they do not warm and would have tasted better but it did taste good. So glad we went here. read more

I was going to go with a cappuccino but then I saw their specialty menu and chose the Sparkling Honey-Lavender Matcha instead. Made with honey-lavender syrup, matcha, Topo Chico sparkling mineral water, and ice, this was a fabulous refreshing drink. Let me start by saying that I drive 60 minutes out of the way to come to Prospect and it's worth every mile. I absolutely love this shop and make an effort to come out at least 2-3 times a month. It's not messing around when it comes to espresso, and their drink menu is unrivaled. I've been coming since their opening and am blown away every time by the consistency and comfort of this shop. It nails everything you're looking for and more. Pro Tip: On the really hot days if you wanna kick it "for here," order something iced in one of their rad to-stay glasses. My wife set up a meeting between me and my cousin, Isaac, at Prospect Coffee Roasters. Prospect is a quaint little boutique coffee house located on a quiet corner near downtown next to a lovely, family-owned convenience store. My cousin Isaac, on the other hand, is a medical school drop out and a back-stabbing, no good, egotistical, glory hound. He revealed his true colors fifteen years ago when we were writing partners on a niche children's book series. Our creative differences opened an emotional wound that we hoped to heal today over a strong cup of coffee. Prospect is a clean, friendly and open space with an inviting, austerely-decorated dining area that's bathed in natural light streaming in through large picture windows facing the sleepy neighborhood streets to the south and west. Prospect staff is welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable. The rift in my relationship with Isaac occurred during the writing of his first children's book- Humphrey the Extremely Flatulent Rhinoceros. I felt very strongly that we should pursue an alliterative book title and characters in the tradition of Seuss, Boynton, and Dewdney. I will go to my grave certain that the book should have been entitled 'Flossie the Flatulent Flamingo.' Isaac dug in his heels in rejecting my Flamingo idea and, after a series of heated verbal altercations, we went our separate ways. Isaac arrived at Prospect, as promised, so I ordered a Cortado and he had a White Whale Going to a Fancy Party. Both drinks were delivered promptly and piping hot. My Cortado was complex, flavorful and quite delicious. In fact, time and my warm Cortado put me in the mood for forgiveness. Isaac is currently on a national book tour and happened to be in the area to promote his fifth children's book - Larry the Lactose Intolerant Lion. His latest book is the 2020 recipient of the coveted Mario & Linda Galeffi Book Award in the Area of Young Adult and/or Children's Gastrointestinal Education/Non-Fiction. Surprisingly, winning a Galeffi hasn't gone to his head. Moreover, the dedication in his latest book was to both me and "the power of alliteration." I was humbled, Isaac was apologetic, and we talked for over two hours getting to know each other again over delicious Prospect coffee. The poor guy has apparently been suffering from writer's block, so he asked me to help him with his next educational book on constipation. Because of our genuine catharsis this afternoon, however, I decided to take a hard pass. After wasting so much time overcoming the painful obstruction in our relationship it was too difficult to risk another relational blockage. Plus I know nothing about constipation. Wow this place makes me wanna move back to Ventura On Saturday i got a matcha tea [not explicitly on menu] and it was made correctly. I've NEVER found a coffee shop that actually makes matcha correctly. It was definitely better that I've ever done making it at home. If you're an expert matcha maker, you may be able to get more foamy top part and less graininess, I'm not sure, not an expert lol. On Sunday I got a cappuccino with almond milk. Everything about it was balanced. Good amount of foam , correctly mixed, good ratio of milk and espresso. I had nothing to complain about. The Barista's are all really nice and friendly, you can find them chatting with friends / customers pretty often. No arrogance / too-cool attitude so you should feel comfortable asking about drinks it whatever. There's tons of seats and people seem to come and go pretty fast here. There's outlets and wifi. If this place gets more popular with nerds (does Ventura have any of us???) then getting an outlet may be hard. The music is VERY loud, and the continuous influx of customers (busier on Sunday) makes it even louder. If you want to study but are sensitive to noise, this might not be a good spot. I will say IMO the music is not very distracting (I'm a music snob and also pretty sensitive to noise. I carry headphone and earplugs whenever I plan to study at a cafe, I'm a pretty picky boi). I have been coming here for probably 5 ish years now , I love it !!!! Coffee is amazing, pastries are amazing , location is just so cute with natural lighting and it's great to sit inside! I am rating them a 3 because every time I've gone over the past year, all the employees act like mean girls. I have never complained about anything bc I truly have no complaints here and I have always been very kind , asking how there day is going , wondering what their favorite drink/pastry is, making sure to say thank you to them all when I leave. The very pretty girl with a short haircut rings us up typically and she just acts as if she would rather be eating rocks than talking to us. I understand no one wants to work , I wish we all didn't have to. It wouldn't be a problem to me if I didn't see them chatting and laughing amongst each other. If they were all unhappy with everyone it would justify it but truly you see them having a good time amongst themselves or even if a friend comes in that they ring up but then to every regular person it's a whole 180 mood switch in a second. It has just become more and more discouraging to come here because I just feel judged and like I'm not wanted there. Great coffee and super kind baristas at the register and bar. I stayed in an AirBNB right across the street and came into the coffee shop 4-5 times over the weekend. I tried the batch coffee, cappuccino, pistachio latte, and my favorite was the short black. Bought some beans to take home but haven't tried them yet. One barista in particular was very helpful, taller with round glasses. He was working every day I came in and was very genuine. Sorry I didn't get his name! Manager helped us on the last day and he was super patient with needy kids and other guests looking for merch.
