Stopped by for Happy Hour! They have a really nice patio outside, which was perfect for snacking. Prost is also near a couple of food trucks, and is a great place to grab a drink before/after grabbing lunch at the trucks! My sister and I were only looking for a small snack, so we split the "Brotzeit Teller", which was essentially a small charcuterie plate. Fairly basic meats and cheese, but the two mustards and obatzda (a cheese/butter sauce) made the dish great! In the future, I would prefer to have more pieces of bread, and thicker slices or cubes of the deli meats. But if you're looking for a chill place to grab drinks and talk with friends, this is a great place to be! read more

This was my first time in Portland and Prost was highly recommend. The food was good but the service was sub par. In the time we ordered then wanted to order another sandwich we were told the kitchen was closed . Mind you it was only 5 in the afternoon in a Tuesday. I guess the great food they talk about is not what they really want you to buy. I would recommend asking as soon as you walk in when the kitchen will be closing to insure everyone in your party gets to try the food. Popped into this spot for a beer and the hopes (dashed) of some semblance of a meal. I awaited (for very long time) a cold, shriveled sausage atop some grocery-store bought kraut (what was certainly bottle-squeezed Dijon), and stale rye (that would find itself in a desperate crow's mouth come trash time). The rather rude and coldly mannered wait person w/ blue? hair had a callous and sad demeanor, someone obviously very lacking control in their daily life. This place is simple the best place for beer. Saying I haven't had better beer that this in entire Portland is not a over statement. Particularly the WeissBeir. I have been to this half a dozen times and it never disappoints. The Ruben Salat is a amazing accompaniment with the beer. I think I just paid $10 for macerated meat (Braunschweiger) - according to our very chipper waitress/bartender, when asked about this pate. Had I known that this menu item was not only macerated meat, but the very same kind you find in the supermarket under the brand "Oscar Mayer," sausage - minus the green apple slices, store tasting rye, grainy and sweet mustards; I would have never purchased this misleading menu item. This was our first stop after landing in Portland! We stopped in at around 6:30pm and the staff were quick to help us. Love that the place wasn't packed--still busy inside and outside, but not to the point where no tables were available and people hand to stand. We ordered two beers and a couple of bites. I drink beer on the occasion but by no means consider myself knowledgeable of beer nor do I have the palette for it. I also have no recollection of what beer I ordered, so this review is mostly going to have to be about the food. What I do remember about the beer is that it was a hot day, I had some cold beer, and it was good. For the food, we got a hot dog with curry ketchup and a pretzel sandwich. That curry ketchup was pretty amazing and something I have not tried or heard of anywhere else. While the pretzel sandwich felt a little skimpy on the fillings, the pretzel as a bread was delicious and could be eaten on its own. Friendly staff, chill vibes, good beer, good food. Atmosphere and selection of German beers are wonderful (can't speak for the food), but I would like to echo some of the other reviews I see here about rude employees. I visited for the first time yesterday around 5pm, they were not yet crazy busy but tables were starting to fill up. My fiancé and I found a table and I went to go grab us a couple of drinks at the bar on the patio, while my fiancé stayed to keep our table (not sure how else we would've reserved our space?). I went up to order us a couple beers and the bartender asked who the other one was for so I pointed at my partner at our table below, and he said he needed to see his ID, which is completely understandable. So I ran over to our table, grabbed his ID, and brought it back. Then the bartender said, "well I need him to come up here too, that's how IDs work," sarcastically. Again, I get it, everyone has their policies, but everywhere is different and this is the first time I've been somewhere they weren't ok with just bringing an ID up...there's no need to be rude about it. My fiancé and I left our sunglasses on our table so no one would take it, and when we came back up to the bar it was clear the bartender had been joking about me with the customers sitting at the bar. Then, after drinking said beer I made my way to the restroom. Having never been there I was trying to figure out where it was and didn't realize there was a line. As I was trying to find it, I didn't know at the time but the same bartender was walking right on my heels behind me and said - there's a line! So I stopped to turn around and find my place in line and the bartender tripped over me and snapped "I'm right behind you!" Not sure what he was expecting me to do when he yells there's a line...keep walking the same direction??? These couple things probably wouldn't bug me too much if they were swamped and still dealing with COVID restrictions, but given it was a normal, not too busy day and everything is opened back up, I don't think it's acceptable. Not very inviting and I'm not looking to go back anytime soon. read more

I decided to stop by and check out Prost during the Kentucky Derby weekend. It was pretty busy because of the Kentucky Derby going on, but I was still able to find seats right away at the bar. I came here to pre game and have a drink before heading to dinner. I had no plans to get any food. I could smell the food from other two were ordering, and I was pleasantly surprised how great it smelled considering it is just pretzels and sausages. I originally wanted to come in for a boot, but it was too loud and I got too intimidated to ask the bartender about it. It was already intimidating enough that I could not pronounce any of the beers, and pretty much had to just point out the one that I wanted to drink. My first time here and I belive it will be my last, the service is terrible, if you order a beer it will take forever and if you cancel your beer order you will receive attitude about how long German beers takes to pour. The server didn't ask if I wanted a different beer or drink she just handed us the bill without trying to see if we were satisfied. Came here with some friends later on a Friday, really enjoyed how their smaller patio opened up onto a large one just wish I came sooner and the food truckers were still open and then around 10pm or so they close off the larger patio so cramming back into the small one was a bit tough with the large amount of customers there. The beer was great! And man was it packed with people! Will definitely be back to try some more beer and food! read more

I'm not a beer expert by any definition of the word -- but beer conoisseurs and beer novices and beer apathetics alike can find something here. The staff member who served us was incredibly patient and friendly, willing to walk us through the menu and offer her recommendations to us with our beer preferences in mind. She was also incredibly kind in spite of the number of ignorant questions we asked. To be honest, I don't even remember the name of my drink and can't give an educated review about the quality of the drink. I did discover radler's here and greatly enjoyed their grapefruit radler -- which tasted like a tangy grapefruit juice. They're currently providing outdoor seating. During chilly nights, they run heat lamps which, for people sitting right beside the lamp is too hot, and for people setting further away, has seemingly no tangible effect. This is all to say: be prepared to bundle up in warm clothes if you're going during chillier days. Five stars for FANTASTIC service. The BEST neighborhood bar. I come here all the time and just took advantage of their recent restuarsnt week deal. Got the pretzel, short rib with egg noodles and German chocolate cake. I was blown away. They have great beer and of course great vibes - but also great food!?! It was excellent. Such a cool spot! Great for BEER! They have sooo many different types and so many kinda of glasses. It's great because you can get the regular size a medium size or afull boot! how fun. They have q little bit of room on the inside and a lot of room outside (which is great in the summer time) You drink like Germans so you all sit at different tables together. There are two bars, 1 inside and 1 outside. And there are also people walking around taking your order, so that's super helpful if you're small like me and have a hard time getting through to the bar. they do have a bouncer at the door so that's nice that he kinds of keeps things calm during the day time they open their back gate so that you can walk into the food cart area, you're not allowed to walk down with your alcohol but you can certainly bring food up from there! read more

This is definitely a public man cave. You know... men wanting that dark wood, das boot showcased, Deutschland themed and dart throwing escape? I walked in smelling Germany, the good part. So a great list of biers and drafts to discover. "Erdinger Dunlap Weisse" A dark wheat beer. The nose was sweet with a tinge of citrus, the middle was rich and the finish oh-so-smooth. "Bitburger Pilsner" is crisp, clean and oh-so-tasty. No one has been disappointed with their orders. Curry weisswurst wasn't cooked very solid. It was cooked but uncomfortably squishy. Tasted good but -eh- squishy. And not going to lie. Curry and Germans don't hold hands in my recipie book. Really great atmosphere and staff. Added perk... the crowd this joint attracts are all low key happy people. Love popping into this spot. Great selection of German beers (highly recommend the Franziskaner Weissbier if you're a fan of wheat beers) and I love the fact that each beer is served in its own designated style of glassware. They recently expanded food options off the back patio - there's a mini courtyard of food trucks which smelled delicious. I haven't tried them yet, but I could imagine sitting on the patio on a sunny day with a delicious beer and some excellent food truck fare. As far as food goes, I've only ever tried the Bavarian Pretzel and Landjaeger - they were decent. Their sandwiches looked pretty tasty from what I've seen. What a disappointment! I had high hopes for Prost as I've been getting more and more interested in German culture lately. On the positive side, I like how the owners definitely respect German culture and beer customs, as evidenced in their adherence to serving beers in appropriate glasses. But still, the service of Prost left a bad taste in my mouth. The service was not very friendly or accommodating. When we got there, one guy in our party (me) was 20 years old, and could not legally sit inside the bar room. That's totally fine, I understand that the law is the law. But I'm just as much a customer as everyone else and the woman explaining this to me could've been nicer. Plus, I spent more money on my food than my friends spent on their beer, so I was generating just as much revenue as anyone else over 21. As a result, we had to sit on the patio, which was nice, but seating was kind of limited though. Also, when the four of us we were moving to the patio, a waiter got pretty short with us, saying we couldn't bring the menus with us. How unnecessary! Just say it nicely and don't freak out, they're just menus! Service was also slow in terms of getting and ringing up the check, and I think my water glass was refilled once. Come on, guy! Even though I didn't get any beer, I ordered a decent amount of food. I got the pretzel and the currywurst. The pretzel was interesting. It was more like a bread in the shape of a pretzel than a traditional dense pretzel, with a crispy exterior and very yeasty soft inside. In spite of its strangeness, it was definitely tasty and the mustards on the side were good. The currywurst has potential and could be very good but it falls short in a couple ways. First, they used weisswurst which apparently isn't authentic according to my German friends, but that didn't bother me. The sausage was tasty but not very hot. Nor was the currywurst sauce drizzled on top. There could have definitely been more of it and it could have been served fresher and hotter. But for $7 it was okay. Please, put some freakin' frieten on the menu! They're the classic currywurst accompaniment. read more

We love this place with some small criticisms. Generally the service is fantastic. Last Saturday our server was great- friendly and knowledable with a little sass. It gets very busy on weekends and can be very loud. The patio is awesome and I love that they share with the food cart pod adjacent. I dont like beer and I can bring my cocktail from Bloodbuzz to Prost to eat my dinner. Parking is sometimes really hard and I wish there were more tables. The star of this show is the smoked pork loin chop. Some of the other food is boring (dont bother with the pretzel). Go there. Eat this chop. Eat the cheese soup. You will be full and happy and, if you like German beer, you might feel like you've found heaven, if heaven is a full stomach of perfectly cooked smoked pork and cheese. read more
