I love this place!! My favorite dish is the El Verde Bowl, but that's not what keeps me coming back. The folks that work here are the best! I'd like to give a special shout to Dylan, Christian and Delilah for being so very friendly and accommodating, always remembering me and my special requests. Top notch, based upon my initial visit today. I had the Quinoa Chili and a greek yogurt for dessert. Healthy, proteiny, yummy. Prices are typical loop lunch--$5-$6 for an entree, but quality is far above the norm. I'll be back soon. read more

Healthy food at a huge premium. The barritos fill you up and the salads (ironically) do more than fill you up but I'm not sure if the food is worth the tab. On the bright side, the service is quick and very friendly. read more

I recently tried this healthy-orientated fast food place. It's a smallish place with a limited number of counter seats and high-top tables for in-store dining. Most folks seemed to carry-out their orders. I arrived before 11:30 AM and waited a little over 10 minutes to have my order taken. Once ordered, the food was prepared quickly. I enjoyed a Caesar chicken wrap with chicken chunks that actually tasted like chicken. I would try it again. read more

When I think about healthy I think about organic food! That is healthy to me ... no pesticides, no hormones! I was dissapointed in Protein Bar when I found out that the fresh squeezed juices I've been buying 3 times a day for $7 are not made from organic vegetables and fruits. They actually told me it is a mix, some are organic, but some not. To me it kind of defeats the purpose of drinking fresh squeezed vegetable juice if its full of pesticides! Also, I did not appreciate that some employees were telling me that it is organic. Only at a different location they told me that it is not. read more

I've been a PB fan since early days on Franklin. The food is great, it's healthy and its fast -what more could you want? Love love love the Chicken Parm Bowl and and the Buffalo Chicken bowl (no celery tho, please!). Bar-itos are great too. First timer at the pbar. The line was a little long, but there is a reason for that, because it's good (and healthy). I went with the healthy parm bowl for a little over $7. It had all the sweet tasty fixens of a chicken parmesan dinner without the bowling ball sitting in your stomach afterwards. I would recommend this place if you don't mind waiting an extra couple of minutes at lunch and want to break up the turkey sandwich at your desk routine. I strolled into this place last week after seeing they had a couple vegan options (a rarity in the Loop), and I was very surprised...quinoa is a great source of protein, but the flavor leaves a little to be desired, so it was great to see that Protein Bar has made an awesome vegan burrito thats filling, and flavorful! And the vegan chili is GREAT too. I stopped in again today and the service is friendly, fast, and helpful, and its the perfect place to re-fuel when youre on the go. I am mos def looking forward to trying more stuff on the menu....the kombucha, the smoothies, etc....do yourself a flavor, try the chili and try to tell me vegan food isnt tasty! 5 stars. read more

I've been going to Protein Bar for several months. My initiation was the Millenium Perk and other beverages. Then I moved to the chili. Now I'm hooked on the burrito wraps. I like the menu variety and the portion sizes. The owner is pleasant and open to feedback. At times it seems they're still trying to identify the most efficient means of food preparation. I like the fact that only one staff member is preparing my food (versus the assembly line). Now that the bar has been 'discovered' there can be occasional lines, even after 1:00 pm. The lines move quickly, but the facility isn't really designed for crowds like a Chipotle (thank goodness). read more

I decided very last minute to do a fast, but that I needed something to drink other than water. I decided a smoothie would be perfect. I always make my own smoothies because frankly, I don't trust restaurant. They always seem to put sugar in them, or some other ingredient that takes the calorie count way up and the taste level way down. Well, I walked over to Protein Bar on Franklin for a smoothie and was this a great decision! The young man at the counter, Christian was extremely nice, patient and helpful as it was my first time at Protein Bar. I decided on the Hi-5, minus the cilantro. Christian suggested I add strawberries as a second fruit. This was the best smoothie! The consistency was perfect, and the flavors were bursting through! Yummy-licious. By far my go-to lunch spot. I usually bring my lunch, but if I don't, this is where I go for healthy food. Their salads are the most filling thing on the menu and so flavorful! Food's alright, but I can't seem to get a break from this place. On my last trip, I ordered a spinach pesto burrito. Person after person got their order before me, so I looked behind the counter... no site of my lunch. new staff they have in there in the last 2 weeks has taken a HUGE STEP back, they cant get any drink or food order right. I have been patient and they still clearly don't give any regard to your order. I have been going there for 2 years every day odering the same thing. I was the only person in there at first and it took a ridiculous amount of time to make my scramble bowl. But, I did gave them the benefit of the doubt since after me a few people came in and I saw they were making a large order of smoothies. So, despite my expectation of the fast service I'm used to at Protein Bar, I sat and waited patiently for fifteen minutes for them to call my name (since that is how they typically provide you with your completed order). Finally, I thought "ok maybe if they see me up at the counter it'll give them a bit more motivation to move their feet". I walk up and within a couple minutes she pulls my bowl out from the side of the counter and hands it to me. I sit down, open it, and it's cold. Clearly they forgot my order was sitting there and didn't bother to call my name to pick it up. Worst service I've had at Protein Bar. The store was dead; there's no excuse for it. read more

I've tried their bowls many times thinking eventually it'll be good. But I'm wrong every time. Mainly...every time I get one, it's inconsistent with what it was last time. I've gotten the Healthy Parm a few times...first, it was way too spicy but says nothing about being a spicy dish on the menu. So I emailed Protein Bar and they said it was probably just that day and location, and made incorrectly. I tried again a few weeks later and it was still really spicy. I've waited a few months and I tried it again today. While it's no longer spicy, it's drowning in tomato sauce, which is wasn't before. And the worst part...and why I had to post a review...is that every bite I'm spitting out really hard pieces of chicken. It's so disgusting. It's either bone, grizzle, something gone really bad!! And it wasn't just one tiny piece, it's throughout the whole bowl. It's so nasty I won't be trying any of their food for a really long time...considering everything has chicken in it. I do not like this place at all...and I don't really think it's as healthy as they like to say. It's very difficult for the body to digest more than one type of protein...more isn't always better. Great choice for lunch for someone who is health-conscious. I have eaten at Protein Bar couple of times now and always feel good after eating there. Full but not stuffed and no food coma. The shakes are delicious with natural ingredients and have way less sugar than other places. As far as food goes I have tried the barritos, veggie chili and wraps. All have been excellent except that the Ivy Barrito was a little dry. It was still tasty and the dryness didn't bother me that much, it is still good and healthy! I tried one of the bowls once and it was very tasty but if I would have to complain about something it would be the portion size of that bowl. It is way too small..even for a small person. I could have probably eaten three of them! Not sure if they have added more portion sizes on them, have to check next time I go. I was also concerned when someone mentioned that the sodium content of PB food is high.. I would like to think that the sodium levels are still much lower than somewhere else? Otherwise love the place and am happy that there is finally a truly healthy choice for lunch. Prices are a bit on a higher side but at least the quality of food is higher than your average lunch spot I think. I hope to see more Protein Bar locations! Service is also good and the place has nice atmosphere, even though it is a bit cramped. read more
