I feel like I was waiting for Protein Bar to open in the burbs FOREVER! And now, it opens two minutes from my house, and next to my gym - doesn't get any better than that! I love this place because it offers healthy food fast. All of the calorie information is listed on the menu, so there are no hidden surprises. From my experiences, it is always clean, and well-staffed. My go-to is the chicken chili - great for when I am too lazy to actually make chili myself. Everything about it is perfect - not too spicy, not too soupy. Served with some melted cheddar and some cool greek yogurt, it's my favorite thing to get. I did get the quinoa chili bowl once, and wasn't a fan - solely because I have a love/hate relationship with quinoa. I want to love it, because it's healthy and a good source of protein - but I just can't get past the texture and the grainy smell - but if you like quinoa, there are a lot of options here for you. I also tried the guac and roll wrap, with chicken, tomatoes, avocado, and the super 6 salad mix. I opted out of the cilantro dressing and got the bbq sauce instead, which was really good and very filling - I was starving when I got it, and I could only eat about 3/4 of it. What I REALLY enjoy from here is the fresh raw juice - the Greenberry is my favorite - kale, lime, apple, strawberry, cilantro, YUM. I love having this for breakfast, or post-workout. I'm so excited this has come to Oak Brook! I love my healthy food, but I'm not about to choke down lettuce and call that a meal. Protein Bar finds a happy medium between healthy options and decadent flavors, offering an array of options for vegans, Celiac suffers and regular health-minded folks, too. I tried a little bit of everything this morning and loved it all. For breakfast, you can't beat the pancake in a bowl oatmeal. It's al dente cooked oats topped with seasonally available fruits. For lunch, the buffalo wrap is da bomb. It has a spicy vegan sauce, a filling amount of protein and crunchy super 6 salad mix. I could eat it every day. They also have a ton of shake options. Netflix just added Season 2 of Extreme Couponing, so all weekend I watched these people get enough food for a family of 7 for less than what it cost for my husband and I to eat at Protein Bar for lunch today (if you're wondering, it cost us $21.) Granted, those 7 people are going to be eating ramen noodles and drinking Vitamin Water on the daily for the next twenty years and I ate some super fine tasty food, but I digress. I am one of those people that get freaked out by foods I've never tried. 'Quinoa' sounds like too strange of a word for it to actually taste good, so I skipped the wraps since they all had Quinoa in them. I went for the the South Acai'd smoothie and the chicken chili. The smoothie has your choice of yogurt (low-fat, soy or greek) and bananas in it. It was my favorite item that we ordered. I could devour one of these everyday for the rest of my life and die a very happy person. The chicken chili reminded me so much of Wendy's chili but this one was thicker. That's not a bad thing at all, because Wendy's has fabulous chili and is another food that I could eat everyday for the rest of my life and die a happy person. The portion was really big and that's okay with me because now my $21 is stretching to cover tomorrow's lunch. My lunch partner got the guac and chicken wrap. Despite my aversion to strange-sounding food, I tried it. Gotta say, I didn't hate it. In fact, I loved it! To me, you couldn't really taste anything out of the ordinary. All I could taste was the guac and chicken. I would order one of these again. We popped through here as we drove passed Chicago on our way to Milwaukee. It was decent food for what it was... a healthier version of fast casual dining. I appreciated the healthy twist on every item.. from Greek yogurt ranch dressing to their lower carb tortillas. They also had a good selection of kombucha. We didn't get to try their shakes or juices but they looked good. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, which was okay but when picked up, it leaked about a quarter cup of liquid. My hubby is currently on a liquid diet and I kindly asked if they could put their chicken quinoa chili in a blender to liquefy it and they kindly did so and offered to also dismiss the quinoa without hesitation. I ordered the same thing in it's original form and boy was it tasty. Although it's not as spicy as I normally like my chili it was chunky enough to satisfy my palette. Packed with 26g of protein it had "hearty chef crafted chili packed with all natural chicken, beans, healthy veggies and a spice blend." Hubby also ordered a "Wrigley Peeled," signature drink. Which is infused with "organic peanut butter, banana, agave nectar and chocolate protein." All drinks are made with almond milk but can be substituted for other options like juice or water. Overall it was a good experience, service line was quick, customer service on point, wait time minimal. On a beautiful day, opt to get some fresh air and sit outside. Really great food, but holy hell, $10 for a salad? You've got to be kidding me. I'm a creature of habit, so I opt for the southwest salad with extra cilantro and guacamole. I love this place! Sadly, I live in St. Charles and we do not have a Protein Bar anywhere in the vicinity, so I can only indulge at PB when I am in Oakbrook or the city. I love having healthy fast food options at my fingertips and while we do have Muscle Maker Grill, they do not offer as many options as Protein Bar...not even close. I have had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here multiple times and all have been delish and plentiful. So jelly that you can get a kick ass workout at L.A. I'm so glad this place exists. One day I'll actually need to go here in person, but for the last couple of weeks, I've been ordering delivery from here via DoorDash. As a vegetarian/pescatarian who doesn't like most vegetables and who is too lazy to grocery shop, much less cook, it is so hard for me to find something healthy and filling to eat. I would usually resort to eating a bunch of breads, cakes, noodles, and pizza. I recently discovered this place on DoorDash, and since then, have ordered from here more days than not. I wanted to have a healthy dinner after the gym so I drove out to PB in Oakbrook and got food to go. I got the mexicali bowl and my hubs got the buffalo chick bowl. Hubs enjoyed his so much he decided to make his own rendition of it for his lunches the following week. I loved mine- it had a nice kick and alot of crunchy veggies in it. I make a similar bowl for my lunches from time to time but I never thought to put kale in it. DELISH. We also got their protein brownie- it was good but not great. I much rather splurge on a regular brownie LOL I would go back if I am in the area for sure and try something new. Food was good - really like the new vegan chicken. Unfortunately, service left much to be desired. I called ahead to place an order (as the app wasn't working). I was told it'd be ready in 10-20 minutes. When I got there 30 minutes later, it wasn't ready and hadn't even been started. I specifically called ahead to place the order as I was running to my son's basketball game. The manager barely gave an apology and did not offer anything to rectify the mistake. I came here last week as I am very familiar with their locations in the City. Unfortunately I just don't feel the proverbial "love" at this location. Their smoothies have always been expensive (and no pun intended ) that IS the price we pay to be healthy. The problem is I used to feel that my smoothie was a special order and they catered to exactly your preferences and nutritional requests. Now I just get the feeling of a typical franchise as I am rushed to make my order and am not confident that I am getting the supplements that I asked for. I used to eat their chili which was quite tasty but can't speak to it anymore because I haven't ordered it in more than 1 year. We shared the spicy chickpea and lentil soup which we both really enjoyed. I got the buffalo wrap this time and I loved it. This is a nice affordable option in the area for a "healthier" fast food meal. The decor is a bit sterile, but I think that is what they were going for. Food was good, most dishes under $10. The portion looks a bit small, but it is very dense and packed with protein so it is more than enough. The dining area was very empty even during lunch time on a Saturday. I am Jack's provoked malevolence. Scorned. That pretty much sums up how I feel about Protein Bar. I walked into an empty Protein Bar, void of any customers beside myself. There was one employee (who I believe was the manager) sitting off in this little side/segregated area and two employees, one of which appeared to be just getting off his shift, up front by the condiment station chatting it up. I grabbed a menu, looked it over for a few minutes and went over to the counter area with no less than 5 registers, all un-manned. I waited, waited some more, I even did a few stand-in-the-same-spot-but-kind-of-tap-dance actions so the two chatting employees who could plainly see me, would acknowledge presence. Eventually the employee deep in convo realized I wasn't going to serve myself, took a minor break from her discussion and yelled over in my direction that someone would be with me. I said 'okay', then watched as she yelled over to another employee who was just milling in the kitchen area, maybe 8 feet from register, to ask yet another employee to come up front and take my order. It seemed like a lot of bureaucracy to go through for one customer to order, but whatever. I'm no protein bar-rista, and I'm not there to tell anyone how to do their job. A girl walked out from the back of the kitchen, chewing something and wiped her hands on her pants as if she'd been interrupted from eating. This girl was the friendliest employee I encountered at PB, and actually very thorough once at the register- even upsold me on a side of veggie chili to go with my Vegan Original Grilled Bar-Rito. My total for a 16oz 'Beetbox' juice, a vegan grilled bar-rito and the side of chili came out to $18- not enough to sh*t your pants over, but enough to make me really f*cking pissy when the manager came over to scold me for what I'd like to refer to as, 'some bull-ass-sh*t'. You see, as I was waiting for my food-pager to go off, signalling that my order was ready, I decided I was going to snap a few pics of their menu so I could remember what the f*ck I ordered when I went to review. I look up from taking a pic of their soup options and I see the manager girl hovering over me. She asks (in one of those really annoying heightened-pitch voices that customer service people do) if she can help me with anything. I said 'no' and mentioned that I'd already ordered as I picked up the pager thing to show her that I did in fact order something and that I wasn't homeless and just squatting in their empty restaurant. She followed up with a bitchy warning that I can't take photos inside their business. At first I thought she was joking and I kind of made a weird Rick Moranis goofy half smile, but then when she said it again I could only respond 'really?' and then let out a single laugh in the most involuntarily condescending way I've ever felt myself laugh. I put my phone down and she gave me a paper menu and said that if I wanted a take-home menu I could have that, but she couldn't allow me to take photos there. I am Jack's raging hormones. She walked away, my pager went off and in my head I knew I was just going to wait till her back was turned and take even more pics than I ever would have in the first place. The veggie chili, I can't lie, was pretty fantastic. Spicy. Hearty. Everything I like in a veggie chili was there. The $7 juice I got wasn't worth it- bottom-line. It supposedly had beets and cucumbers and all that good jazz, but it tasted like nothing more than really watery, purple carrot juice. My bar-rito was fine. If I had to describe it, I'd say it tasted healthy and then probably pause and make a face to go along with the statement so people knew I meant it in a negative way. Back to the photo thing: I realize that 'no photos' may be store policy, but I didn't see a sign stating that anywhere and since I was their only customer and there really isn't anything unique or ground-breaking going on at Protein Bar, I don't see the need for the secrecy. Inside looks EXACTLY like a Naf Naf Grill, only Naf Naf has employees working their registers and it wouldn't cost me $18 for a healthy meal. Personally, I think the manager's effort would be better spent getting her employees to stop chatting and start noticing customers, than coming over to yell at their only customer like I'm some child for taking a pics. I might have been generous and rounded to 4-stars when really they'd actually been about a 3.5, but after the scolding and lack of service, all I really want to do is slap a raging 2-star on this bad boy. I've settled on a pretty diplomatic rating of 3-stars, and while I won't be back to Protein Bar, I encourage you to go. Try it for yourself and see if you like it better than places like Naf Naf or Jason's Deli where you can get the same health conscious meal for less money and with better flavor. Did you know that quinoa really stinks when you cook it? Like B.O. underarm, that smell your gym clothes get when you forget to take them out of your duffel bag, go on vacation and discover them in the back of your car a week later bad smell. First time I made it I couldn't believe I was going to eat the stuff because it stunk up my whole kitchen. Yeah, and the taste? No. That's when I learned you're supposed to rinse the sh*t before you cook it because it gets rid of the icky taste/smell/flavor. My bad. Y'know what? I'm just going to let the Protein Bar handle it from now on because they do it and they do it right. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's the first place I ever sampled quinoa; at their downtown location, long ago in a land far way when I was about as far removed from Yelp as I can imagine. Fast forward to today and I'm seriously jelly of the people who work out at LA Fitness because they have a Protein Bar right downstairs. My gym doesn't have that. Sad face. I went at 2:30 on a Tuesday so there were only enough people in the place to count on one hand, and several of them looked to be in some state of pre or post-workout. Lunch was obviously over, so there was much standing around being done. The restaurant was spotless and attractive, and the gentleman behind the counter was friendly and efficient. He asked if it was my first time (only at this location) and gave me a loyalty punch card thingie. I ordered a spinach pesto quinoa bowl with chicken. It was about $7 after tax. It wasn't the hugest portion, but the flavor, number of ingredients and complexity made up for it. I REALLY enjoyed this dish. I suppose I should try making it myself, because for $7 I could theoretically make enough to satisfy several meals. But there's that whole cooking quinoa thing that plays into effect and...no. All in all, I was super satisfied and will definitely fill that punch card in no time. read more

Upon entering, I'm not sure atmospheric is the word for Protein Bar, but it certainly was clean. My friend, who is not a PB virgin, was all ready tapping her foot, ready to go with her order. Her choice? The vegan quinoa chili with black beans on the side. She also decided on some fresh fruit. As for me, a customer who likes to peruse before she decides, if you happen to be the person taking my order, let's just say that patience will or should be involved. The guy taking my order was in a hurry. He needed to simmer down. I went for the Guac and Roll, one of the bar-rito whole wheat wraps. This wrap came with organic chicken, tomato, cilantro, and lime seasoning. I also ordered one of their blended fruit and yogurt extravaganzas to go. I have to say that we both enjoyed our food. My friend who is a chili aficionado and rarely deviates from culinary staples made quick work of her food. I guess they have a couple of different chili offerings here. As for my guac and roll, really delicious and no complaints from me on my smoothie. It went down smooth. I'm sure I will try Protein Bar again, with one of their bowls or salads. Great service, healthy food, and nice location. Coming from the city, I have waited for some city staples to come to the burbs. Protein Bar is one that is definitely a solid staple to enter Oakbrook. It is a great place to go for salads, breakfast, wraps, etc. It is healthier than other lunch places and they give calorie counts as well. It's a wonderful option to our society's 'fast food' we've come to accept day to day. The staff is friendly and quick to give recommendations on the menu. The location is clean and welcoming. Protein Bar lets you customize your whole meal and choose the milk type, protein powder type, boosters, etc. They also have a nutrition calculator of their website so you can figure out the details on what you are eating. I bring my diabetic mom to eat here because she can control her carb counts. Only bad thing - it is really expensive so I can't go as often as I would like. I usually go for lunch but I really recommend the breakfast - the El Oatmeal and Pancake in a Bowl are delicious. And try a smoothie too! I have had almost all of them and find them to be filling and not too sweet. Give it a try! Soon you will be as hooked as I am... First time ever visiting one of these chains. The menu seemed promising. I only tried the protein shake, their summer special called Basic Beach. Ingredients were listed to include pineapple, mango, banana and strawberry with coconut milk, collagen and a "turmeric spice blend". It's pictured to look bright orange yellow in color as one might expect with those ingredients, however mine was a muted pastel orange color. I only mention the color distinction because the flavor was as bland as its color. For supposedly containing such lively tropical fruits, I could barely distinguish any of them. LOVE that they have plenty of vegan options, but the vegan wrap I ordered was kinda bland. Also, when I visited I had my heart set on a juice, but their juicer wasn't working and apparently breaks down frequently. The food is overpriced, but it's fresh and you know exactly what you're consuming, which is a plus. read more
