The care for my dad was a mixed bag, some good and some mediocre. After my dad's passing, they told us we would have up to 1 year of bereavement counseling free through continuum. Sounds great, but problem is you can never get a first appointment to have access to individual and or group therapy. Have had three cancellations for a first appointment. I scheduled time off from work to make these appointments. If people can't get a first appointment that sticks then the proposed therapy is useless.

Anytime we'd call, it felt like we were a burden. Mom had a bad fall. I reached out and asked for a call back. She said she would call, but did not. I had to call her after waiting so long. Mom was unconscious after that fall for 3 days, makes me so infuriated. We didn't want to switch hospices because we thought it would be too much of a hassle with mom in the condition she was in and having to switch out equipment. Looking back, we should have. After the fall, I moved mom in with me, and the nurse changed to Armie. One of the good things about that hospice is her. She genuinely cared and you could feel her sincerity. Eventually, we had to move her to an adult family home. The nurse switched to Pearl, and she was the only other good thing about this company. Mom began actively transitioning, and at one point, began aspirating. The caregiver called after hours. You'd think they would call back pretty quickly, but nope, I had to call in again and demand a nurse call. I would not recommend this hospice. Families deserve compassionate and responsive care during end-of-life moments, and this company simply did not deliver that

Subsequently, we found our she had fairly advanced terminal cancer. The level of care and kindness shown by the entire staff (thanks, Kelly, Nedra, Michael) really touched our hearts. It's not the fanciest place I've seen, but the kindness, love and level of care mean that your loved one will be well taken care of. Our mom ended up in hospice, and eventually passed away in January, 2020. Throughout her suffering and our grief, the staff was kind, supportive and always helpful. They took most excellent care of her, both physically and emotionally. Thanks to all of you.

Nothing truly disastrous happened, but it was a very mixed bag and wasted a lot of time. In long The positives were the physical therapy and the bath aide. Both compassionate, helpful, organized, and motivating. Really good, capable people who deserve all the credit in the world. The bad starts with occupational therapy. He has since retired for medical reasons of his own, so he's no longer a liability. But he was a mess on his best days. He would call to schedule an appointment and talk to my wife about nothing--one time for over an hour. And he would complain about being overworked and not having time to get things done. Maybe if a 30-second scheduling call could take place in 30 seconds, rather than 60+ minutes, you'd find your calendar more manageable. He also complained repeatedly about how state authorities unjustly investigated him at past companies. Not exactly confidence-inspiring. He would come over to tape up a shoulder for my wife, and literally watch a YouTube video on his phone about how to do it....*during* the session. You don't know how to tape a joint? C'mon, man. At least do that in your car before you come in. He would come up with inadequate solutions, too. Her shoulder needed a little more support from the arm of her wheelchair. Instead of recommending a thicker armrest, he stacked up pieces of styrofoam packaging from a parcel he had received at home. Obviously that's easy to knock off and she loses the support. When we switched to outpatient OT/PT later in the year, the OT found a perfect armrest online for under $30 and we still use it. The case manager was another disaster. He was OT by trade, but clearly not up to date, and not focused on what he should be doing. He came over for an eval and she mentioned that climbing stairs would always be a big goal for her. She had tried with PT with mixed results, since her dropfoot made her feel unsteady. He took her to the main stairs in our house. They're narrower and shallower than the front stoop, which the PT had wisely been using when she had her try stairs. She felt unstable after one stair, so he tried to talk her into taking her ankle brace OFF. Thankfully, she questioned this, left it on, and got back to her wheelchair quickly. Having her tumble down even 2 stairs could have been pretty awful, to say the least. Thankfully, we got her into outpatient care not much longer after that. It certainly could have been better, but it was a huge step up from Alpha, and she never felt unsafe at all. Turns out that the best therapists tend to work at in-patient rehab facilities, where they can see the most patients the most often throughout the day, and make the biggest difference. Home health usually falls below outpatient care in competence, from what we understand. Thankfully, she's found a better company for her current home care. Glad to be done with these busters.

I asked them to send her to Providence, they said she just needed to drink more water. I called 911 and had her sent to Prov. The ER doc told the nurse to give her narcan, she immediately woke up. I was referred to With A Little Help by a friend of mine who is a hospice nurse. He actually gave me the names of three agencies, and I called them all. The first two had a corporate vibe, and sent me directly into a voicemail black hole. It was days before I heard back. When I called With A Little Help, within seconds, I was talking with Kacie, one of the owners, who was so kind and spent all of the time I needed talking with me about our situation and care needs. By the end of the phone call, we had a plan for an intake evaluation, and just a couple of days later, a new care team was in place...and just like that, the stress and worry that had been accumulating over many months lifted. This is just one example of the many, many I could share about the excellent care With A Little Help offers. They aren't a corporate-care behemoth. They are local, owner run, and some of the most caring people I've met in a long time. Kacie and Paul, the owners, worked with us to find the caregivers that are the best fit for our situation. When I began experiencing caregiver burnout, I asked a trusted occupational therapist for referrals and With a Little Help was my first choice and we have been so happy with the compassionate and skilled care they provide. She has put a lot of effort into assigning caregivers that will be a good fit for personality and care needs, and the caregivers provided have been great. The frosting on the cake was when I received a bill for the "services" I received, which was covered by Hospice. It took me talking to three people in order to get to a person who knew what an invoice actually was and to resolve the problem. I would think twice about hiring an aide from this company as the care was seriously lacking and the basic business proclivity left a lot to be desired.
