Unlike most city-dwellers, I don't really have a regular neighborhood spot I frequent. But if any place came close to that for me, it'd be P&K. Not only is P&K just a few blocks from my door, but I find myself craving their burgers on a regular basis. The atmosphere of P&K is laid back. So laid back, in fact, that they don't take reservations. That's really my only gripe with the place. It's a great spot for any meal, brunch included. And in the summer, it's perfect for al fresco dining. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu here. But you might have a hard time finding something to eat if you're a vegetarian. P&K is all about burgers, seafood, and red meat. The current signature burger, the Churchill, is one of my favorites in Philadelphia. Melt in your mouth meaty goodness. The beer menu isn't pages long, but has some unique choices that compliment the food. But don't overlook the specialty drinks! They can make a cocktail to rival any on the menu at Franklin Mortgage. It can tend to be pretty loud on a friday or saturday night, so if you're planning on talking to your date, try and go a little earlier. read more

I honestly nearly missed this place! Thank goodness for Google maps, because I didn't see the name on the outside anywhere (or even the street numbers, but maybe I missed them in the dark). Nice looking inside, with the bar/ dining area and an upstairs. Cozy. The hush puppies were good. Not the best I've ever had, since I tend to prefer warmer and crisper, but would happily munch on them if placed before me. The fried chicken sandwich was better than expected actually. It wasn't too heavily breaded and the breading was fried such that it wasn't soggy and didn't easily slip off the meat, which was nice. Not too spicy that it took away from actually being flavorful, and the dab of coleslaw added a nice contrast. I think they're more known for their oysters and such, so while what I had was good, I wasn't blown away, but I think that's maybe on me. read more

Who would have thought that mushy peas would actually be fantastic? That was my recent surprise at Pub & Kitchen, where I took and out of town friend. We started with a cheese-plate appetizer. The selection was well-balanced, and just enough for 2 people. But it was the fish and chips with mushy peas that was the real surprise. The fish was excellent - golden on the outside but light and flaky inside. The chips were pleasant. But it was the mushy peas side that was just amazing. They were fresh, green and just hinting of curry. What was really embarrassing is I told the server there was no way I was going to eat them when I saw them on the menu, but he told me he was going to leave them on my plate anyway, because I just might change my mind. He was 100% correct. I'll definitely return. read more

Picture the scenario: You've just flown in from England, you're tired, it's humid, it feels like 1 am and you're hungry. You want food that you know, but you're happy to try some American stuff, too. You want it to be tasty but not too expensive. Sound reasonable? Alright, not if you live in Philly, but you know what I mean... Go to Pub and Kitchen. There's a pub. English style, with pints and everything. And a kitchen. With great food cooked extremely well. I had a dark n stormy (rum and ginger) and it was just what I wanted to wake me up and see me through the night. Then I had the gnocchi, which was quite simply the best I've ever had. Light, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, wonderfully seasoned with subtle flavors, it was awesome. The salad we shared was simple but great - well dressed and fresh. The burger and salmon also looked very tasty. It's a good spot and it gets the mixture of drinking hole and restaurant absolutely right. The chef is fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect. Far from a sports bar, it does show the game on the screens so you can keep score without it being intrusive on your night out with buddies. read more

I've been to P & K several times and the food is always on point. They are the only restaurant that has ever gotten me to eat peas and like it (the mushy peas with the fish and chips are where it's at). I was at the bar having a couple of drinks with a buddy and decided to order the pulled pork (which I inhaled). I was craving fries but I didn't want the full $7 order of fries because I wasn't going to eat them all by myself. When I asked to substitute the side salad for some fries they were adamant that it would violate their no substitution policy. Funny that the last time I was there, they served the fries as a side. Plus, who in the hell gets a salad with a pulled pork sandwich? Bottom, line is this place has to get their priorities straight. You are a bar and not a high end restaurant so you want to accommodate your patrons, within reason, to give them incentive to come back. I'm sure the finances of the place will not crumble if they throw 30 fries on the plate in lieu of a salad. Otherwise, knock down the price of the fries by $2-3 dollars and I'm not online tonight writing a rant about your poor attitude towards your customer. read more

I loved this place! I went here with my boyfriend and his family. The place has dim, beautiful antique lighting and is a great noise level - pleasantly loud but not overbearing. It was a nice place to share a meal and conversation. The menu was split into three sections - Pub Snacks, Starters, and Entrees. We were very impressed with the Pub Snack and Starter options so we chose to turn it into a tapas style meal and shared many of the plates. We chose: deviled eggs, smoked chicken wings, chili marinated cauliflower, brussels sprouts, ricotta gnudi, mussels, and roasted squid. The chicken wings, squid, brussels sprouts and ricotta gnudi are amazing. The mussels were absolutely huge and the broth was delicious! Can't wait to come back! read more

As soon as we walked into this place I was happy. The atmosphere is great - good music, not too loud. The service was perfect. The girl taking care of us was super knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Her wine and food suggestions were right on. The bourbon and coke with cherry and vanilla sugar is really yummy, and they've got a great wine list. For food we tried the white fish mops, fries with truffled dijonnaise and the sweetbreads. My friend loves sweetbreads and she thought they were amazing. The freak me out. read more

One of my favorite local niehborhood bar/restaurants! I can't get enough of the friendly people who work here! The food is amazing and nicely priced. The portions are great and the atmosphere is fun and festive! They decorate for all seasons and has a bit of an old world charm. I'm always expecting to see a fireplace every time I walk in!!! Make sure you ask for Alexis if your going to sit at the bar and tell her Xtian (Christian) sent you. She will make you feel as if she has known you for years! During the spring and summer months, try sitting outside with its decorated flower beds that line the street! So much fun! read more

So I just came out of pub and kitchen. I walked out after sitting at my table with my boyfriend for 20 minutes and NO ONE came over to greet me or even fill up my water glass. Considering there was just ONE other couple in the whole entire bar on a Monday night, the only logical explanation is that they didn't serve us because we were black. Pub and kitchen is a racist establishment and I would suggest that no one goes there. It is 2016 and we have to make a stand on closing down racist establishments in the Philadelphia area. read more

We stopped in for cocktails after our dinner at Pumpkin down the street. It's a great corner bar, I would say that it's a step up from your typical pub. (Oh wait, duh, I think this is another gastropub.) I agree with another reviewer that, this bar would not be out of place in Manhattan. A long dark wooden bar runs the length of the space, the mood was very intimate. There is a seating area in the back, set away from the bar crowd. We were able to grab a seat at the bar and we appreciated the fact that there wasn't someone constantly over our shoulder trying to get bar to order drinks! (I value my personal space!) There was a nice selections of beers to chose from as well as well as a variety of bites to nosh on. The sweet aroma of deep fried french fries filled the air, which made my taste buds salivate! I refrained from order it, since we literally just left dinner, but I will definitely be back to try them out, along with the 'Churchill' that everyone seems to rave about! I settled for my other love, freshly shucked oysters! They were done very nicely, subtle in size and delicious. We came in the day that Whitney Houston passed away, so her voice fill the bar space, so I'm not sure what kind of music is usually played. If I lived in the area, I would stop by here more often, unfortunately there isn't a lot of other bars in area for us to make the trek across town, we don't tend to stay at one bar for the entire night, not nonetheless, a great spot! read more

Prior to my visit to Pub and Kitchen, I was a little nervous about the number of negative Yelp reviews regarding the change in chef/menu (the "FAMOUS" burger was gone!). But it was my husband's birthday and P&K was his choice, so off we went! I really liked the atmosphere of this place. It was dark, but not too dark. Cozy but still felt more upscale than a local joint. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Plus they had a good beer list. I was hooked before our food arrived. For our meal, we tried the smoked salmon topped deviled eggs and homemade potato chips with a cauliflower cheese dip to start. I went with a steak, while my husband went with the burger (despite it not being the "FAMOUS" one). The smoked salmon deviled eggs were amazing. I'm pretty sure I ate mine in about one second flat. The chips with the cheese dip were equally as tasty. I wish they had come with some veggies or other accoutrement-- the chip to dip ratio was too low! And I TOTALLY DID NOT eat the rest of the dip with a fork ... So about my entree. Words cannot describe how fast I ate that dish. The meat was cooked perfectly, and it came with some delicious sauteed scallions and onions and a potato rosti (block of scalloped potatoes, for those of you like me who had no clue what that was). Everything was covered in this delicious au jus. As for the birthday boy, he enjoyed his burger, but clearly not as much as I loved my meal. If you visit and the steak is being served, please order it. So why 5 stars? I debated between 4 and 5. There were a couple of things that bugged me (menu is not posted online, prices were a tad high, tables were very close to each other) but ultimately, I decided that because a month later I was still dreaming of that steak and those deviled eggs and that heavenly cheese dip that I TOTALLY DID NOT eat with a fork... this place definitely deserved all 5 stars. read more

Despite an obnoxiously loud event happening at the bar (a night of "Brosé" and 80's yacht rock...) we had a really delicious dinner here last Friday. We started with the deviled eggs and crispy burrata. Both were good - if not an elevated standard. The hot, steaming Whiskey & Sage bread arrived with a giant slab of butter. Not exactly diet food, but a worthy dive into carbs & fats. For our entrees, we split the famed P&K Cheeseburger (oh my god!) and the Poached Skate in a green curry sauce. Yes, the burger is delicious. But I actually enjoyed the Poached skate a bit more - delicate and light, but bursting with those Thai/southeast Asian flavors. Service was good, albeit maybe lagging from the incredibly crowded bar area. read more

When a friend suggested Pub and Kitchen for a recent Saturday brunch, I was excited to finally try it out. I was surprised by how empty they were when our group of 5 walked in at 11:30, but more people arrived over the next hour or so. The decor had an upscale, rustic thing going on and it worked well with the overall vibe - lots of wood, farmhouse-y tables, open windows, etc. We were promptly seated and presented with food and drink menus. They had a wonderful selection of wines, drafts and bottled beers, as well as a nice little cocktail list. They had a section specifically titled "Day Drinking" which I found charming. Between an assortment of these beverages and some of the best coffee I've had in Philly (the waitress identified it as Stump's), none of us went thirsty. The brunch menu was not huge, but had a nice variety of sweet and savory selections as well as a few specials. Our group tried a wide variety including pain perdu (French toast) prepared both with berries and cream and with toffee-bacon sauce; house-cured salmon with a fennel pretzel-bagel; a potatoes and scrambled egg dish reminiscent of poutine; and eggs benedict. Everyone seemed pleased with their meals, and the bites that I stole from almost all of the plates were delicious. I felt the portions of each dish were more than adequate; some at our table thought they were a little small. If you have a big appetite, you might want to order a side dish. On our visit, the service was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. She was knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. When she saw that one person was not really drinking the cocktail she recommended, she all but insisted on providing a replacement. It also didn't hurt that she was drop-dead gorgeous in a relaxed and natural way. Overall, I can't wait to go back. The prices were a little too high to be an "everyday" brunch spot for me, but it was not a major splurge either. If I have another experience of similar quality, Pub and Kitchen may enter rarified "5-star" air with me. read more

P&K has recently become my favorite hangout place in Philly. They have an amazing drink/beer selection. I love the feel of this place - it's so comfy, casual and classy. It's not pretentious and I love how it's not on a main street in rittenhouse or olde city - it would be a very very different place if it were. The food here isn't bad either - burgers, oysters, frieds, soup - these are among my favorites there. They also have great music playing every single time I go (which is a lot!). Side note: I'm racking my brain trying to think of an equivalent place in San Francisco and I just can't think of a single place. I'll be moving back west soon and will be sporting my newly purchased red t-shirt featuring none other than the Pabbit I love so much. Yes, they sell tshirts there too. read more

Went for a brunch visit with a few friends and were happy to arrive in between the crowds. We had the following: Hangar steak and fried eggs - great medium rare steak to pair with a simple fried egg. Really like the side salad with home fries mixed in. Hearty brunch item and well-worth it for the steak fans! Duck breast benedict - again, a well-done medium rare and a solid hollandaise. The english muffin is treated right: toasted and kept its shape despite the heavy sauce and duck pieces. Porcetta - to die for with the grits. Enough said. Overall, wonderful service and lighting on a fall day. Will definitely come back again for lunch and dinner. read more

This place screams classic UK style bar: the dark wood, the cozy seating, the eclectic house mix of music, the dim lighting perfect for procuring dates... The wine list is well rounded, (I especially like the Spanish Rioja) and the beer selection, although a bit pricey, is well chosen and provides a great match to the pub styled food. They also make really great drink specials, such as the blueberry cosmo I had a couple of visits ago. The food is really yummy, my favorites being the oh so popular in 2009 beet and cheese salad and the smushy peas that come with the fish and chips. Oh, and how could I forget, the fries are a must! The reason I give them only three stars is the staff. The bartenders are just OK, they never are super friendly or quick to please. The wait staff always seems a little aloof and it usually takes a couple tries to get everything that you want. The worst, though, are the greeters or hostesses that alternatively and without explanation either pounce on you or ignore you upon entering. Also kind of annoying, but self correcting with the recent change in the weather is the complete lack of space for coats, purses, and umbrellas. They have a large space upstairs that is rarely used but they never offer or accept requests to hang coats, etc. up there (even though there is a coat rack). All in all, a good place to stop by for a drink, see friends and meet new people, as the crowd is pretty friendly. read more

The Bread Pudding is amazing! The Churchill burger is pretty good. It's supposed to be a custom blend of meat which is exciting, but at that price I think there are other burgers in the neighborhood that taste better. I think for the price you're better off going with the regular burger and adding what you want. A friend of mine had celery root soup that she said was great! I love the french fries... they're a great snack. Love the beer list. The staff here is always very nice... from hosts to bartenders to servers, really great service. I went to a private party in the room upstairs last month, our bartender was very sweet and the room was the perfect place for our party. All of the food they made for the party was incredible. read more

A friend and I ended up coming here after we got to Darling's as they were closing. It seemed interesting and a little cheaper than Meritage across the street. The waitress was cute and friendly, and the hostesses inside were nice as well, so we started off well. I ordered the gnocchi and my friend got the mussels, both from the starters menu because were both broke college students. The gnocchi was alright, nothing exciting, but nothing I would complain about. In my opinion, it was a little greasy and just a bit under-salted. But perhaps the delicious spinach gnocchi from Cucina Forte has given me higher expectations. My friend felt the same way about the mussels- not bad, but nothing to rave about. Perhaps I'll come back another time when I have extra cash so I can try some drinks and sample some more of the menu. At least the coffee was really good. read more

I was here about a year ago and though I don't remember what I ordered I definitely enjoyed my experience. I went yesterday though and it was a whole different story. My party of three's deviled egg appetizer was overly salty. I ordered the cheeseburger as did one of my other friends (only because the entree she'd originally wanted was sold out). She found hers way too salty. When she told the waiter he was very nice and apologetic about it and offered to get her something else. My burger on the other hand was very good but the fries were some of the greasiest I've ever encountered in my life-yuck. The three of us split a small chocolate pudding dessert and it was delicious but incredibly rich, more than one small ramekin split three ways would have been too much to handle. On top of this sub-par experience I began to feel ill about and hour after the meal and was stricken with food poisoning that lasted a few hours [TMI but it was coming out of both ends]. I'm not someone with a sensitive stomach and this has only happened to me one other time in my life. I was especially disappointed because I know that the people who run Pub & Kitchen also run The Diving Horse in Avalon, one of my favorite restaurants where I've never had anything but a fantastic meal. Bottom Line: If you want heavy, salty, greasy food that might get you sick, save your money and go to Mcdonalds. read more

This is more like a 2.5 star review. My recent experience was pretty "meh"... I used to love this place when I lived down the street. I hadn't been in for a long time, and stopped in for a quick bite and glass of wine around happy hour time. I ordered a glass of wine, which was like $10. Not having a happy hour wine is really annoying, although they do offer a $20 bottle. Adding some glasses of wine to the happy hour menu would be cool. I ordered the pretzel with cheese. The pretzel was hard as a rock. So hard, in fact, that I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. I only ate about half because I was starving (it was 5pm and I hadn't eaten all day). Strangely enough, I feel like more than one employee saw me struggling to cut the damn pretzel, and no one asked me if everything was OK. Strange. I could have broken a window with that pretzel! Or a tooth! Either way, it was a disappointing visit to a place I once loved. read more

umm...this bar deserves 4 stars alone for the PABBIT! A pig / rabbit. Genius. And it's on the glasses, the napkins, the menu, AND on the coasters. The coasters also have cool quotes from smart people on there. Another plus. But in all seriousness, Pub and Kitchen is a vast improvment over Chaucer's. The food is dependably good. The tomato soup, the bread pudding, the frieds, all fantastic. My friends loved their oysters, and pretty much every time I've been there my friends have loved their burgers. I've ordered the gnocchi once and it was melt in your mouth good. Additionally I love their beer selection. I suggest this bar if you live in the hood. If you don't, I suggest you trek out to it. It's worth the walk / car ride / taxi ride / bus ride / any transport you need to get yourself here. Get yourself here. I only give it 4 and not 5 stars b/c the service can at times be wonky. read more

I've been here so many times in the past year, I definitely thought I had already written a review! This is one of my favorite places not just within the Graduate Hospital neighborhood, but in the whole city. I've had dinner here with friends, with family, for business, for just a quick bite, for more formal occasions and I've popped in for just a couple cocktails a number of times... I've never had a bad experience -- with drinks, with food or with service. I actually like that they don't take reservations because then I have just as much a chance of getting dinner here last minute on a Friday or Saturday night as anyone else would. The servers & bartenders are well versed on the menu; they're usually able to answer any questions on the spot without having to step away and "find out." It gets noisy - upstairs is much quieter, although still not totally peaceful. read more

This place has a very unique feel. We nearly missed it on our walk to dinner; there's no real label on the corner restaurant. They have an eccentric mix of IPA's and Pale Ales. The menu is very interesting as well; their buffalo wings and the cavetelli appetizer were both amazing..the cavetelli was served al dente with amazing flavor. I had the skate for my dinner, which was probably the most delicious fish I've had in as long as I can remember. They are known for their burgers, which were very good as well. They are often compared to Village Whiskey's burger, and sadly I don't think they are quite on par, but still very good. This place is on the pricier side, but the ambiance on a Saturday night is a mixed crowd; noisy and full of energy. Nicely done! read more

I'm not sure what all the hype is about. I've been wanting to come her for so long because the name kept popping up all over the place. Sadly, I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. It was a very cute place, very hole-in-the-wall feeling with candles providing much of the light in the room. We had a few cocktails and beers. The cocktail I got was delicious (a little small for $9) but the cocktail my friend got was SO sour. It was not enjoyable, but she drank it anyways because we hate being a pain when we go out to eat. We got the wings and the cheese board to snack on while we drank. The wings were tasty, but pretty small and a bit overcooked. The cheeseboard was delicious though. They have rotating cheeses every few days as they come in fresh, so be sure to ask your server which ones they have if you happen to be indifferent towards a certain kind of cheese. Overall, this place is cute and I love the ambiance, but I am not sure that I will back soon. read more

The short of it: If you like cave echo ambiance, questionable expenditures of time/money, and mediocre bar food that laughably pretends to be sophisticated bar food, you will be surrounded by plenty of your peers at Pub & Kitchen. The long of it: I was really looking forward to my meal here, I swear. The pictures and description of this place in Bridge and Tunnel monthly - I mean Philadelphia magazine - gave my stomach an erection, which I didn't even think was physiologically possible. My lust for Pub & Kitchen motivated me to give the place shot on an otherwise Typically Unremarkable Weeknight. Upon arriving, I waited a few minutes before being led by my server through an increasingly dark, cacophonous, narrow corridor made out of drunk people until I finally reached the eating area at the back of P&K. Why pubs subject patron and server alike to the natural consequences of thickheaded layout is beyond me. I started off with wings (the sweet variant), followed by a pulled pork sandwich and fries. Quite frankly, the wings were embarrassing. Every last one was overcooked to the point of crunchiness. "Off night, maybe", I thought to myself as I tried to avoid chipping my teeth on what undoubtedly was tender chicken meat prior to crossing the path of the wrong disgruntled P&K line chef. The sauce itself was good, but lipstick/pig. Speaking of pig, the pulled pork sandwich was strictly average. I couldn't taste much of the meat trapped under the accompanying sauce avalanche, but that wouldn't have even bothered me much if the sauce itself was great. Unfortunately, it wasn't - you could find better at Pathmark. All I'll say about the fries is that I didn't even like them enough to take home with me post-meal. The servers got the bare minimum done and not much more. They were aloof, largely absent, and quicker to ask me to move over one spot mid-meal than to refill my water. Maybe my stomach needs Viagra. Maybe this was all a case of me ordering the wrong thing and maybe my experience really wasn't representative of what P&K is capable of. Maybe I'd rather try dozens of other restaurants than risk finding out if I'm right. read more

For about two years now, I've heard this place mentioned numerous times. I've heard people rave, especially, about the burger. So on a Friday night when I'm looking for a place to eat, I thought I'd give it a shot. Yelp is rarely wrong, and this confirms that. This place only has 3.5 stars for a reason. The food was grossly overpriced and I'd say a couple notches below mediocre. $15 bucks for a teeny app with four small pieces of octopus sitting in a bed of oily peppers. It wasn't bad.... but $15. Next the so lauded burger. Not good. They didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, probably because it had two patties, which added no value to the burger, except to make it unwieldy and hard to eat. The entire burger was flavorless except for the taste of salt. Salt salt salt. There was no interesting sauce, no zesty additions. Just salt that masked the taste of the whole thing, including the otherwise well-cooked patties and weird lettuce shavings drenched in mayo. Oh yeah, and it was on this very hard gross ciabatta roll, which I guess worked well as a sponge for the excessive amount of grease this burger had. Allow me to rant for a second about what a good burger means. It does NOT mean a big burger, which is what I think people are seduced by at Pub & Kitchen. A good burger must be viewed holistically: quality meat, well cooked, fixings that truly add value to the taste of the entire sandwich and are not just there as decor, and general experience, which means a burger that you don't have to strain your jaws to take a bite of because it's way too tall, or a burger that doesn't meld together and crumbles into individual slippery components in your hands. This was what I was thinking about while eating Pub & Kitchen's burger. Sure, the burger was well-cooked, but it didn't make it good. To top it off, the place was crowded and really loud and everyone was drinking rose. Felt like the bf and I were dining with twenty tables full of our sorority sisters. Very "I only shop at J. Crew and live off a trust fund" vibe. Tl;dr -- too salty, too greasy, demographic too trust-fund-private-school-y, too pricey. read more

Hoped for better, but it has its charms. Popped in for an early Sunday dinner on a very warm fall afternoon. We didn't have to wait for an outside table, but we hadn't been there very long before the traffic started to pick up and people had to wait to be seated. This place has a great atmosphere; large windows open to the outside, big bar, small tables outside. Coasters with Tolkien quotes on them and a pig-rabbit logo? This place is right up my alley! Unfortunately, those were the high points. Service was mediocre at best. Our waiter was slow at times and too eager to rip unfinished food or drinks out from under us at others. Plus, he was clearly too cool for school, which someone should remind servers, doesn't feed my incentive to generously tip. My friend and I had the pulled pork sandwiches. Good, but I have had better for cheaper. Fries were not worth eating. Since it's not in my immediate neighborhood, I wouldn't hurry back, but I would definitely go again to try something else (and another waiter). It could be a really great place, so I've got my fingers crossed for them. read more

Two words- speed eating!!!! There's nothing about this place that wants you to chill, relax and enjoy your dinner. We ordered at 7.52pm and had the bill handed to us at 8.29. In those 37mins they managed to take our order, serve starters, mains, cocktails and wine. Food was ok as were the drinks. Staff were super. I'd happily go back if I was guaranteed my night wouldn't be finished in a half hour. I heard of turning tables but this was ridiculous. read more

Everyone loves the food here but I haven't been able to find anything to confirm that. Its not a bad place at all just not what I expect. It's ok. The atmosphere is great and the beer list is usually pretty good. The burger is probably the best thing I've had here but nothing to write home about. I will say that brunch is their better option. I sat at the bar and the service was not very good. The bartenders dropped us a menu and never came back. Had to flag them down for a drink and they never asked if we wanted food so we had to flag them down again. The bar isn't that big and there were 3 of them. I bartended for a long time so let's go guys, get it together. Busy or not it's quite simple to give decent service. read more

This place is confounding to me - so am going with 'hit or miss' yet feeling slightly bad about that. First, it is uncomfortably loud because they put the music up high and then people talk louder to make up for it. I think that surprised me because it's so cute inside! I expected so much better given the look and feel that they would opt for this. The drinks were okay - the old fashioned was nice, but the January special had WAY too much crushed ice and looked like a beach drink. (Yes, in January - the last thing I want in 20 degree weather is an icy drink.) Service was nice. She was frustrated with us (understandably because my friend could not decide what to order) but attentive and helpful. Appetizer (squid) was fantastic - I would definitely order it again because the celery root and almonds were so tasty. My entree (risotto) was terrible though. The rice was not cooked long enough (I don't want it mushy, but it should not be crunchy) and the oysters tasted wrong. The whole thing was cold. (I kind of want my $22 back!) Overall, it is definitely not worth the price. If I went back it would be for a drink and an appetizer at the bar. read more

If you aren't giving this place five stars, you simply don't get it. I've been here dozens of times and Chef Eli is one of the best in Philadelphia. When you walk in it may not feel like more than a pub (dark, moody and sometimes loud), but every dish is carefully thought out, and much more than 'pub' fare. (chunks of lamb bacon in caramelized brussels?!) The service is lovely, from bartenders and hosts to even the runners. They are all also very knowledgable about the dishes, never having to run back to the kitchen when you ask what the side sauce is made of. Best times to go: brunch or week night dinner. Happy hour gets a little crazy and filled with bros ordering burgers. The burger is incredible, but there is more to gain from trying whatever weird paté is in the starters section or the beet salad. Same goes for brunch, go with something you wouldn't normally order - you won't be disappointed by any of the food (unless you're really sensitive to salt and seasoning, nothing is tasteless here). Drinks are steep - unless you're getting beer during happy hour, but that's typical given the neighborhood. And at least when you pay $11/12 for an old fashioned - it isn't simply a maraschino cherry plopped into watered-down bourbon. I obviously have a soft spot for this place, admiring every new dish they try. But after eating my way through Philadelphia for seven years, I think this place really takes the cake, or panna cotta if you get dessert. read more

The first (and second) time I went to P&K, I will be honest, I was not impressed. They feature smaller menus with maybe 4-6 choices under each category - so it's great for people that get intimidated by gigantic menus (I'm looking at you, Cheesecake Factory!). It was a tad more expensive than I thought was fair, for what we got (fish entree, chicken entree, no app, maybe a dessert). But. Then I went after the season changed (to fall/winter) and they updated the menu. By god, they're on top of it this time around. Last weekend I joined my parents and boyfriend there and we basically did a tasting menu. Wings, mussels, calamari, bread, steaks for dinner with crispy Brussels sprouts and THE crispiest, most delicious shoe string fries, then a dessert trio of panna cotta (be still my beating heart), funnel cake (good, but I'm still partial to funnel cakes you get straight from a carnie), and... pineapple cake - definitely delicious but I was all over that panna cotta. And, not to be forgotten, the service was spot on every time we went - that never changed. Kudos P&K! Sorry for the lack of pictures, I'll be better next time! read more

P&K runs a pretty good happy hour from 4-6pm. The draft beers are interesting and when I went, featured at least two awesome local breweries (Tired Hands and Love City). They were just $4 a glass, though it is definitely smaller than a regular pour. The others in my group ordered sangria and cocktails and they were the most gorgeously presented drinks. There are good options for munchies including deviled eggs, cheese board, and brussels sprouts. The servers are very nice and accommodating. We sat outside and as an added bonus, got to pet and see many cute dogs out on their walks! read more

The thing that I don't love about Pub and Kitchen is that it doesn't seem to know whether it's a bar or a restaurant. And they're not particularly great at being either. There are a couple of great menu items (e.g., the burgers), but not all dishes are awesome. And there are some good drinks options, but their mixed drinks aren't spectacularly done and their beers selection is just ok. I do love eating here if I'm sitting outdoors. But this part is usually super busy and there's often a wait for seating. The inside is half overcrowded bar area, and half dimly lit dining area, which is a shame, because it has the potential to be such a cozy, farm inspired feeling place. So yeah. P+K seems to have a little bit of an identity crisis, and unfortunately, what they do they don't do well. read more

This is my brunch review: 1. I'm a Philly girl, I love soft pretzels. 2. I'm a Jewish girl, I love smoked salmon. 3. I'm a party girl, I love booze. So when you mix all three of them, put them on a plate together and then put that plate at a restaurant down the street from my house, it's a total deal maker. All I'm saying is that the toasted fennel soft pretzel with vodka cured salmon is amazing. And their brunch drinks (many of which contain my fave, st. germain) are amazing. I just feel very blessed to have P&K brunch in my life. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT ABBA WAS PLAYING. I'm upping the star count for Waterloo. read more

Tried P&K for the first time last night following a play at the Suzzanne Roberts Theater. It worked out well, as we attended the Sunday Matinee, and the show let out at 4:15pm. So walked the five blocks up to the corner of 20th and Lombard, and asked to be seated outside. The dinner menu didn't start until 5pm, so we had Wine and the Marinated Gouda to start. The Gouda was fantastic, with marinated Turnips mixed amongst the cheese, a really nice surprise, and quite tasty. Definitely recommend! For dinner our group had three dishes - the Meatballs - given 2 Thumbs up, the Pasta was nice, and the Skate (Fish of the day) was perfectly crisp on top and moist and soft on the bottom. Very Yummy! Our server was friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back. read more
