I thought a public House should have a good selection of beers on tap, and there were very few, maybe four, and two were lagers. Then they messed up my friend's bill, and ran her card again resulting in three charges on her card. They fixed it the next day but argued with her quite a bit. I would not go back. read more

Last night in WW and decided to try some more traditional pub fare. We stopped by Public House 124 and things looked promising. However, one of the worst and most horrific trends in the restaurant industry has impacted this restaurant too--too few options on too small of a menu. I understand that thet "theory" among "chefs" (and I use that term lightly) is to make only what your restaurant really excels at and keep the menu small so that your patrons are not overwhelmed with choices. I can sort of agree with this if you're talking about slimming down a 5-6 page menu with every combination possible of pasta/sauces etc but when we are talking about pub food, that seems counter productive and not very customer focused. My wife and I felt disappointed that we had stopped in because we both did not really want to have a burger but among the really small number of choices, that frankly was the only dish that sounded particularly appetizing as a main dish, at least for us this evening. We ordered an order of truffle fries which were really outstanding. One order was good for two people. With the burger, we each ordered a side salad that was perfectly dressed with balsamic vinaigrette . The burgers were touted as being of high quality local, grass fed beef. Unfortunately, the patties were so excessively overseasoned with pepper and a few herbs that we were not able to taste or enjoy the beef flavor or the char on them as our burgers were overwhelmed by seasonings. In fact, they tasted more like sausage than beef. I don't think that was the chef's intent but in my mind, it spoiled my meal because the burger was just not what I was counting on. Based on an inability to make a classic pub food well, it's hard to give more than 3 stars and that is generous. read more

Came in about 7:30 in January and able to park right in front of the place. About 4 other groups in the bar. Eating solo and sat at the bar. Attentiveness service. Very limited menu. Had the pork sandwich which was pretty tasty but have to say the fries were the clear winner. Would give it a 3.5 if available as a choice. No reason that I would exclude this as a choice next time I'm in town. read more

My friends and I had a very disappointing experience here. From the start our waitress was very rude, and throughout the night she checked in on us very sparingly. 3 of us ordered the burger, and it was so disgusting that all 3 of us only had one or two bites. We were starving by the way, so that is saying something. It was so overly seasoned with something herbal that completely took over the flavor. There was no indication in the description on the menu that it would be an aromatic explosion of flavors that don't go together at all... The fries were decent I will say. Wonderful atmosphere! This is a great place to feel relaxed and at ease. The noise level is Pub consistent, but the staff and service are well above average. Food is great! Im familiar with the Chef "Ponti" and am glad that he brings a good culinary essence to all of his plates. I've never had a bad meal here. Mathew (owner) is always (just as this afternoon) so friendly and engaging to all of his customers. I ordered the "Public burger" (I usually do more often than not and its been a hit with me as always.) Just as tonight! Tonight i also had the "Huckleberry Ice cream". It was truly a treat! We came in from out of town and were walking down the street. We stopped to look at the menu in the front. We were told immediately kids weren't welcome. As we said ok (We never noticed any signs), a male server immediately made a comment of "That's why I don't have kids." Pretty rude comment to make assuming we wouldn't come back later. read more

We were just passing through Walla Walla and happened upon this place for a quick and easy dinner. We got that. The menu shows typical pub food. But 124 takes pub food to a sublime level. Mac 'n cheese...yes...but top it with melt in your mouth pork belly. Sauteed mushrooms? Yes...but make it an assortment of wild mushrooms on toast with a creamy sherried sauce. Even the simple fruit and cheese plate was done with panache. If you are in eastern Washington for wine tasting, don't miss this place. read more

Everything from seating right away, the atmosphere, the food, and the service was on point. Our waiter was so helpful! We ordered the wings and the pork loin dip and we were worried that it wasn't going to be enough food but we barely finished it! The load of fries that came with the pork loin sandwich are just the right amount of crisp. The sandwich had this fresh, fall taste (if that makes any sense) and the wings had a vdelicious Asian twist to it. However, things are super messy so don't order these things on a first date. Luckily they give you wet wipes for afterwards. Very impressed with the place! read more

I was really looking forward to trying this, as it is new to WW and we need a few new places to eat. A disclaimer to what may seem like a bad review - I will go back, and I am happy they are here. They just need to fix a few things. First of all, the entire place smelled of truffle oil and I hated that. even my drink from the bar, which was bourbon-based, smelled like truffle oil. Everything we got smelled like truffle oil and when I got home, my clothes smelled like truffle oil. YUK The service was poor. We waited for waters, we waited to order and when we did order, the way the food came out was bizarre. I received my salad, 5 minutes later my companion received his appetizer AND my entree came out, but no entree for him, and 10 minutes later, still no entree from him. When the app and my entree came out, they were plopped down without a how do you do - no offer of "anything else", no offer for ketchup to disguise the truffle oil, no nothing, and especially no explanation as to why the 2nd entree wasn't there. Finally, after I was half done with my meal, my companions entree came out, with a smile and no apology and no explanation. I had to flag our waitress down to ask for mayo for the truffle fries and for more dressing for the salad, which she did bring promptly. My companions entree was good - he had the half chicken and he liked it, although the smallish portion left him hungry. My entree - the burger - was fine, a good portion size and well-dressed, but I had ordered it medium-rare and it came out well done. I did not even try to send it back, so my bad there. Overall, it was OK, not great. The poor service would not stop me from going there again because I know they're new. The pervasive smell throughout the place would keep me from going often. I'd suggest some kind of venting system, if they continue with the truffle oil. Bleh. read more

I came here with several great recommendations from some good friends for friday night diner. as we approached the door the hostess walked straight to the side walk and coldly told us we had to sit outside. Oaky that was fine... so we sat down and waited but didn't se anyone for 15 minutes... Get out of here! I am blown away by this place and would put it up against anything in Seattle in a similar genre. Upscale pub food at its best. The chicken friend steak is killer with a nice mushroom brown gravy, sauteed greens and truffle fries. We've had several menu items (including the best burgers in town) and find this to be our favorite spot in WW. The servers are great, the bartenders are friendly and fantastic and creating amazing drinks. I would like to see some daily dinner specials to mix it up a bit....but does not impact my opinion of the place. Lots of great places in WW, but this place seems to be the place I want to keep going back to. read more

If I were rating just based on the service and taste I would be giving 4 stars. The menu is very limited and a well vodka is $8. We had 4 well drinks and 2 small plates between us and the total with tax and a 20% tip was $76. Our small plates were the margherita pizza and chicken wings. read more

The food here is delicious. We split the calamari and it was probably the best calamari that I've had from a bar. The rings were hand breaded, not dripping in oil, and had a nice crunch to them, without being chewy as calamari often is. My entrée was the fried chicken and again this was superb. The breading on the chicken was delicious, the mashed potatoes were tasty, and collard greens were flavorful. My fiancée enjoyed her reuben but she thought the meat was a bit on the fatty side. I was going to give five stars until the server just kind of fell asleep on us at the end and took forever to get us our check and bring it back. He was fine up until that point, so I'm not sure why we got ignored despite him passing by our table on several occasions. read more

The atmosphere is really cool and trendy, and it's always busy but not too loud. Their truffle fries are to die for! The cheese plate, however, was really expensive and you really only get three very small portions of cheese, so I wouldn't recommend that. This was where we had our most casual dinner in Walla Walla. True to its name, this place is better described as a pub than a restaurant, and, just to bring the point home, it's 21 and over only, so leave the kids at home and think of it as a bar that serves high end pub food. The food was good -- I had the house burger (juicy, with bacon, pickled onions and a heaping side of fires) and the partner had the catch of the day (another Walla Walla seafood success story) -- and the service was solid. The atmosphere was very "pubby," so don't head over unless your up for ambient music and lots of folks eating alto voce. We brought our own wine and were only charged a $10 corkage fee. Any down sides? Not really, but it's worth noting that while the food was good it wasn't great (though very solid for the price point), and the menu options were relatively limited (this place really is a bar). The noise level was fine but more than what we would have preferred for dinner (see the early comment about this place being a bar). Still, if you know all of this going in, you should have a pretty positive experience. read more

It's a shame this place only has 4 stars. While my husband and I balked slightly at the prices (even as Seattelites), the food and drinks are well worth it. We had the heirloom salad and the salami and mama lils flatbread. The heirloom salad was small, but packed full of flavorful heirloom tomatoes, fruit and smooth jalapeño goat cheese. Everything combined to make even the remnants worth savoring with the crust of our flatbread. The flatbread had a light crispy crust and the salami was flavorful and slightly spicy and is topped with real balls of mozzarella. Needless to say we enjoyed every note of our meal. Now to our drinks... They were top quality cocktails, the likes that would rival your favorite hipster bar in Seattle. I also had the Blue Mountain Cider on tap, which is a lovely dry cider. I would highly suggest this place with its nice yet casual atmosphere, delicious food and amazing libations. read more
