My first time visit was about 3 years ago. I had the porkbelly BLT, which AMAZING! Since then, Public House 124 has always been a favorite stop for me when I visit Walla Walla for work. While on walla walla I found this place on yelp and decided to check it out. Food was amazing. I had the beet salad with pork belly. The pork belly was like very large bacon bits. So delish! Plus I had the German dumpling. It was like a tasty hand pie with ground beef served with a horseradish cream. This place had great service and amazing food. Definitely will be back. I like this place because my friends sometimes all hang out here...but this is not my top choice of place to go. Pros: -Their truffle fries with aioli are DELISH. One of my favorite places to get fries. -Has a fun atmosphere. -Very friendly staff. (One of my friends got charged for a drink she didn't order, but drank anyways. She mentioned to the waitress that she didn't order it, but said she'd still pay because she ended up drinking it since it was put in front of her. The waitress apologized and immediately took the drink off of her bill. That is really great service!) -Nice mix of casual yet classy. Cons: -Expensive. -Not many good food options, in my opinion. Pretty limited. Not many vegetarian options last time I checked either. -I don't love the drinks they have on their menu...they all seem kind of weird to me. -If you get there later, hard to find a table because it's pretty packed. Also it's not a large bar/restaurant, so everything is squished together pretty tight. -Since it's so busy usually when I'm there, service is usually pretty slow. -Downtown, so it's sometimes harder to find parking. My boyfriend and I went on a date here once, and it didn't really impress us. We love going when groups of friends are there, because of the cool vibe, but otherwise we probably wouldn't go back. Ugh. Drove out from Portland for wine tasting. Stopped in here Saturday evening to watch the LSU vs. Alabama football game because they're one of the few places in town with TVs showing sports. Maybe 4 other groups there when we arrived. We sat at the bar since we knew we would be watching sports and probably would not be eating a meal. Met some other nice folks, bartender was attentive and helpful. By the 3rd quarter, the bartender was pressuring us to order food or leave. The couple next to us were out from Portland as well, and we started chatting with them. Finally, the bartender told me directly we should move along since people were waiting. Over 3 quarters of football, the girlfriend and I ordered an appetizer and 6 drinks, yet the bartender made us feel like it wasn't enough. We weren't drunk, we weren't loud. But apparently our business wasn't appreciated. The bartender had been very nice and attentive when we were one of the few groups in the place, but seemed to be freaking out once the bar filled up. I'm pretty torn on what review to give, so I'll average it out to a three. The positives include good food, good drinks, and a really nice ambiance. I just moved to the area and am pleased to find that there are classier bars in W2. The negative for me so far has been the service. The first night I went it was really busy, but the waitress practically forgot about us. We didn't get water until 15 minutes after we ordered, and we had been waiting for about ten before she came to our table. We were sitting outside, which I guess has a lot to do with it. The issue I ran into tonight was that we ordered drinks 10 minutes before happy hour on accident. We were obviously there for happy hour (menu insert out, $4 truffle fries ordered), but the waiter didn't tell us it was 8:50. Yes, we should have been paying attention, but it was the 3rd time we'd been checked on. Once we got our drinks we were barely checked on. Then we saw the bill, asked, and were told we ordered before happy hour. Yes, we figured that out, thank you. Maybe it's because I'm from a city, but I am used to people informing me of when happy hour is and giving a 15 minute window for orders. I expected more from this place since it's W2 and this town is renowned for being friendly and helpful. Even though I'm being snarky, the food is still good. The sign off to the side said please wait to be seated. So I waited a couple minutes to find out if I would be seated. Much to my dismay and the bartender and another young lady behind the bar stood there and looked at me several times almost as if they were trying to determine if I was waiting to be seated or if I was in mirage. I'm going to stop here and imply say I left without spending any additional money on food simply because of the bar tender. We all have bad days... I know! Fun place with super friendly staff! Sat at the bar and interacted with the bartenders who gave us great suggestions on the must see and do places. I had an amazing gin cocktail creation that was so good! Light subtle and refreshing. The hubs had a local Burwood IPA and then a bourbon cocktail that he said was one of the best he has ever had. We shared the truffle fries with Parmesan which were some of the best! Also the German meat and sauerkraut appetizer with creme fraise was delicious. This place is a must to visit! There was NO sign indicating that a mask was required to walk five feet to the bathroom and when I was told to put a mask on I acknowledged it and then was harassed by the waiter for the rest of the night! I was given dirty looks every time he walked by my table even though I was sitting there following guidelines trying to enjoy my drink. No more service was offered to my party so we finally asked for the check and when we got ready to leave I tried to tell another waitress that I didn't appreciate being looked at like a criminal and she said that it was my fault. Outstanding food, but the service needs polishing. Part of the downtown wine tasting scene in Walla Walla, Public House 124 is the new kid on the block. It sounds like they've been open about two weeks. The decor and food are fantastic. They have a full list of beer, cocktails and wine. Our lunch of truffle fries, a house-made bratwurst and pork shoulder sandwich with picked onions were absolutely delicious. Usually I give a new joint a lot of slack for faulty service, but this place has been open a couple weeks and at 2 p.m. on a Saturday it was not at all busy, so I think we just had a faulty waitress. Everything started out just right, but then things fell apart. Our empty iced teas were never refilled. My entree came out but with no silverware or napkins (and I had a salad on the side). A side of ranch dressing also came out, which did not go with my entree and left us curious. My husband's entree was no where to be seen. Finally after about five minutes - after we saw the waitress inside messing with the blinds so she could have looked out to our patio table to see how we were doing, and there was still no sign of help - Kendall went inside to ask for his entree, our silverware, and some refills on our water. The waitress' response? Not an apology, but an excuse: our plates come out family-style so they may not arrive at the same time. I don't buy it - we were not ordering family-style dishes, this was not explained to us when we ordered, and how does that excuse the lack of silver and refills? After she realized that Kendall wasn't happy, she hurried out behind him with silverware, a refill on the water and an assurance that his food would be right out. It was another few minutes, a full seven or eight after I received my entree, that he received his bratwurst. Which had clearly just come off the grill, as if she forgot to place his order (which is our guess). And the side of ranch dressing? It was for his salad, for which he had ordered ranch dressing. But it was dressed with a vinaigrette and the ranch was delivered on the side. Huh? Again, not faulty service in general, just a faulty waitress. The food was so good that I would still recommend that you give this place a try. And we might try it again next time we are in Walla Walla. But with so many restaurants competing for business, the owners will want to polish this up before they lose the opportunity to create repeat customers. read more

This past weekend we had the opportunity to spend some time with the owner Jason. His passion for food, customer service and his community is passed on to all who visit this pub! You won't go wrong here. The owner always seems to be here, making sure things are running with tip top customer service. That is no accident of why it's a great place. It's casual like a dive bar, but has high end gourmet bar food and quality feel about it. In fact, their food is better than some of the "middle tier" places that are more expensive, without all the fuss. This is a place that almost has a "Cheers" like feel about it - a great place to chat up the locals but great for wine tourists too. The wine selection is awesome (of course, this is Walla Walla) but they do great cocktails with a very attentive bar and wait staff. I've been here about 6-7 times and always happy I stopped in. Seriously my favorite bar in town. Please take note of that first sentance, this is a bar. Not to be seen stricly as a restaraunt. Though the food and decor would make you think otherwise. To start,. the decor is classy with an air of elegance and simplicity rolled into one. It reminds me of walking into many upscale Portland Oregon bars. However as this is a new place and is popular be prepared for limited seating on a busy friday or saturday night. This is not to say the place is small, rather it is that busy and popular. Some of the wait staff need better training while some bring the best service you would want. That is to be expected for a fairly newer bar and food establishment. The food is delicous and well prepared, I am pleased to say that they have what I consider is the best burger in town. Between the grilled chicken, pork belly, steamed clams, chicken wings, rib eye and burger I always leave well satisfied. Mathew Huntington the head bar tender and co-owner will always greet you with warm service and will take care of any unsatiasfied customer. As in the previously stated reviews do be prepared for the smell of truffle oil to permeate the air. Though the truffle fries are their signiture addition and get great raves from locals they are my only deterant. The truffle oil is used in excess and tends to coat the fries in flavor, rather than subtly hint of truffle. The drinks and cocktails are more than well priced leaving plently of room to sit, relax and enjoy another round with freinds. My Fiancé and I took a trip to Walla Walla and walked into the Public House 124 for some truffle fries and decided to go all out and order there Public Burger which came with truffle fries. We got our burger and the first bite took us to heaven, we are huge foodies and have yet to find something so spectacular. Each bite was blasted with flavor. We sat at the bar top viewing the cook station, and the cooks were so fun, so talented, and entertaining to say the least. We will be coming back for sure! Sloppy Crewga! While here you have to try the sloppy kreuga. It's like a fancy sloppy joe that comes with flavorless Cool Whip, or creme fresh (as I've been told it's called). What is that? I hear Safeway sells it, but I can't attest to its freshness (Safeway's creme fresh, not Public House's, I'm sure Public House is the freshest, like the Fresh Prince). The only way to describe the sloppy kruga is like buying a fancy dinner roll and cramming hamburger helper in it, but then giving it a fancy name. You have to try it! Good stuff. While we're here talking about this, is anybody else creeped out by the Little Cesar's mannequin? Also, has anyone tried all the food trucks in Walla Walla? I've heard good things about the food truck by La Monarca. I hear it is has legit meats. They're listed on the Blue Mountain Valley butchery list. But then so is the Sloppy Kreuga. Definitely delicious foods to be found here. You can't go wrong with this place. It's not cheap, but then again that goes with the territory. A previous reviewer commented on the Klause Krugger. Yeah, those are definitely the mystery item in the appetizer menu. We were trying to figure out what country they were from. Maybe German? They are a lot like a dinner roll with hamburger inside them, very meaty indeed. I don't think you can get these elsewhere in Walla Walla, so if you're a fan of this kind of possibly-Germanic food, you should check them out.
