Hipster coffee place that offers great food, home-made kombucha, and the like. Atmosphere is very cool, with free wifi, a good place to work. The carnitas sandwich was outstanding. But -1 star for the plates. They serve food on wooden boards. The problem is that the boards don't actually *contain* anything. The juices from my sandwich pooled on the flat board, and being not a plate, ran right off onto my pants without me noticing. Also, salad is just constantly falling off of them. Please just get normal plates. They have curvature for a reason. Ceramic plates are just as reusable and sustainable, I promise. Then you'll be perfect, Public Square. read more

This is a cool little spot in downtown La Mesa...I typically go on 1st Sundays when they do a cool open mic / band deal...really cool vibe.

What a pleasure surprise. Walking in you feel like you stepped into Portlandia.. The food in a word is amazing. I don't pass out 5 star reviews just because. The breakfast sandwich was hands down the best I've ever had.. anywhere. So delicious! My wife the egg and tomato bake. She loved it. $5.50 for a 12oz latte is ridiculous. Especially when you don't tell someone or have it on the menu that oat milk is $1.00 extra. Not to mention I ordered a 16oz drink but was given a 12 oz. Disappointing experience to pay $9.87 for a scone and 12 oz coffee. read more

I come here on occasion for casual meetings with clients or to spend time with friends. It gets pretty packed but we're always able to find a table. The coffee and service is always always perfect...which is impressive since it's so busy. Great atmosphere! read more

Great coffee and drink menu! I order a coffee and my wife always get one of their fruit smoothies. They are a bit tucked away on the opposite side of Spring Street, but making the trek over there is quite worth it. I love this place ! Great atmosphere! The decor is really trendy and the place is clean. I always get a chai latte which comes personalized with an inspirational card and latte art made out of cinnamon. The little details make my experience special. I like to come in to study and treat myself to their amazing baked goods. They serve them warm and bring them to your table so you can get to work or relax. It's a popular spot so it can get busy. Public square coffee is dope! The whole vibe going in there is super chill. This is one of the hidden gems in SD. Dope artwork on the walls, super dope owner and friendly staff. The patio area is super chill as well, dope seating arrangement. Definitely recommend this spot. read more

Great coffee place and location. Very contemporary atmosphere. Service is fast and the settings are amazing. The trolley horn can be heard every 15 minutes or so, if that bothers you, best be inside. I think I have found a new coffee place to crash with my Mac. Prices are generally better than other places and sometimes there are crowds. Don't let it deter you from stopping by. read more

What a great addition to DT la mesa! Great atmosphere and their house drip coffee was tasty, but a bit watered down. That's my only gripe. The young blonde lady at the register was very sweet. I see people having coffee dates with their friends, reading the paper, studying, and a group having the small bites plates. Will definitely frequent this place. read more

I love this place! They have great ambiance, awesome staff, wi-fi, and a nice outdoor patio. If you want your coffee fast then you probably want to go somewhere else, this isn't that kind of coffee spot. They have some vegan options on the menu which is always nice. I have been searching for a new coffee shop to go to. Starbucks just isn't doing it for me anymore after they changed their syrups my drink just doesn't taste the same. I went to The Lunch Box and bought a latte there and the lady that worked there actually referred me to Public Square. And I'm actually really impressed by my latte. It was deliciously incredible. A little expensive but they also make their own syrups so I don't mind the extra bucks. Very cute inside and the employees were very kind! I'm big on that since I work in customer service. I'm excited to go back and try out their food and pastries next. read more

On a coffee adventure seeking out other coffee shops vs. just the basic coffee chains like Starbucks. I love everything about public square ! Located in downtown La Mesa, the staff was great very friendly and super helpful explaining their menu and most popular items. We ordered a iced vanilla latte and a chai tea w/ two sugar scones. The scones were outstanding even without the flavored butter. The drinks did not disappoint either. I will definitely be venturing back to this gem. read more

What an AMAZING coffee house . . and I discovered it thanks to Yelp! You will love the option of either eating inside (cool interior decor) or outside on their sidewalk patio (great for 'people watching'). Additionally, the food and beverages are presented beautifully: visually appealing and sometimes you get a modern day 'paper fortune' with your pastry or coffee. Most important: everything here is delicious! I am always impressed with how courteous the baristas and staff are. During my visit today, my coffee drink took an especially long time to make . . . the barista apologized and gave me a complimentary scone. None of this was necessary, but the gesture was appreciated all the same! Their specialty coffee drinks will appeal to coffee aficionados: I recommend the 'Pour Over' for those who prefer 'drip' coffee; their 'latte' to those who prefer foamed milk varieties. Sometimes I treat myself to one of their savory cinnamon buns. They are very detail oriented and take time 'crafting' each coffee beverage, so allot extra time for this. Also, be sure you have nickel, dimes, and quarters with you to pay the parking meters. Public Square Coffee is in downtown La Mesa, and the parking spaces DO have meters! The one negative is that sometimes the service is slow -- you have to wait a longer time than usual to get a specialty coffee drink. read more

Saw reviews for this place on Yelp of course and decided it was time to try it out. I had to wait until the following day however because they close really early. Upon arriving you get the "hipster chic" vibe. Really nice decorations adorn the walls. Very simple coffee menu which I like. They also have a one page food menu. I decided to try the iced coffee and the chia pudding. Both were very delish!!! This was my first experience eating chia pudding but definitely not my last. It really hard to describe the chia as far as texture. The chia itself has no real flavor but the accompaniments is what makes it POP. On top of the pudding was a delectable lightly sweetened berry compote followed by some granola which is a good texture contrast to the smooth pudding. The iced coffee definitely packed a punch and your senses were awakened. In the end I think I have found a new coffee joint. Recommend you try it. read more

I don't know why restaurants insist on cement floors! You can't hear a thing in there because it is so dang loud!! The menu is limited with only a few options, yet every order takes 10 minutes... they need a new POS system to speed up their process. Also service is slow. My friend ordered a cinnamon roll and it took 20 minutes... Though my breakfast sandwich was good, I'm not a fan and won't be returning. read more
