So many reasons this facility is bad, to start with the Elevator is down and per the front desk "wpont be fixed until maybe October"! Very safe and clean environment to store things. My critique is that the price of my storage unit literally doubled in price, so I am now moving elsewhere. Also the access hours now close at 6pm; the unit I am moving to, access is until 10pm. The elevator is indeed tricky, but at least there is an elevator! Found out that my storage unit was broken into yesterday. They stole 2 TVs. The Thieves are not cutting your lock, they have a tool to bends the hinge that holds the sliding door. Once they bend it you can slide the door up till the lock hits the top. Another unit next to mine was also broken into. Found out the homeless use this place too. Anyways, I called Corp and basically they will not do anything for me. I know it states it in my contract but the police said they have numerous reports that this Public Storage has had many break-ins, so Corp should know. You'd figure I am a good customer and maybe they'd help me with the moving costs. Nope! While I was waiting for the police to come so I can report it because I have insurance, I notice a homeless guy sitting on the corner for a 1/2 hour. He waited till the Property/Office worker left for the day at 5pm. He then went and punched in a code and came in. WTF!. read more

As I write this I am sitting in the gated parking lot inside the public storage building. I came down from my space 5 minutes before 9pm, their closing time. When I went to punch in my code to open the gate and drive out, the gate would not open, stating that it was after closing time. There is no number to call posted anywhere. No emergency number or button. No manual exit. no bathroom or food. We're stuck in here with another family that has an 8 year old boy with them. We just managed to get into the elevator and hit the emergency button and they said they would Call the fire department, I think. Hard to know for sure because the elevator door was trying to close in me and beeping really loudly. This seriously cannot be how this works. Seriously? You were 1 minute late so you are now imprisoned in a metal cage? At 40 degrees? All night? I can understand letting people in. But out? Is this even legal? Beware... This is the WORST storage rental EVER. I'm being generous with the 1-star rating, but would like others to know what to expect: 1. You must purchase their locks (which happen to custom fit their custom roll-up door for $15. The locks become useless once you leave Public Storage. 2. There are homeless people that squat and camp out around the building. 3. They cross-sell products when you don't need products. 4. Lack of available carts. 5. Inflexible hours to access your unit. 6. Possible homeless people utilizing the storage restrooms (saw same shopping car with stuff piled 5-6 feet high in cart, parked next to the restroom on a number of occasions while I was at my unit). I asked management if that person "lived in the storage unit", and she replied "he has a unit with us" -- but didn't answer my question directly whether he lived there or not. Think about it -- storage is cheaper than rent, so it wouldn't surprise me if people were actually living here. I took a snapshot of the possible homeless person inside Public Storage -- PICTURE TO FOLLOW... 7. Awful stench of mouse droppings in the hallways. 8. It was such a BAD experience, that I couldn't bear to have my personal belonging there for more than 2 weeks -- so I checked OUT! My significant other and I rented space from Public Storage to help with a two-phase move from Berkeley to Seattle. We rented from them because the place seemed rather secure and the storage is accessed from the interior rather than the exterior. Staff was quite accommodating. On Monday 14 March 2016, I received a call from Public Storage staff telling me that my unit's door had been forced open with the lock still in place. As I now reside hundreds of miles away, I encouraged the staff to make an attempt to secure the door but was told that I am the only person who can open the unit and/or remove the locks. I pointed out that based on their words that the unit was already open. Still, they refused to act. That being so, one of us immediately flew to Oakland (last minute tickets are quite expensive!) to look into the situation. The locks were indeed still in place and the door open having been pushed off its track. A number of items -- including a tool collection -- were missing from the unit. Staff assured me that break-ins are rare and because of this I decided to stick with Public Storage. Due to the damaged door, staff had me move my possessions into another unit at the opposite end of the building. That was accomplished without incident. On Saturday 19 March 2016 -- only five days later -- I received a text asking me to call Public Storage. I called and was informed that my new unit had been compromised! Per their words, it appeared that no one had gained access this time, but the door was damaged. This time staff had my locks cut off -- never mind the company policy recited to me the previous time -- and replaced them with their own after having the door repaired. They now had the keys to our unit in their possession. We were told we could retrieve upon our arrival. This time we both made the trip to Berkeley. Based on appearances of the interior, it seemed that our items had been untouched. Everything inside the unit looked much as we'd left it. Even so, by this point we were very stressed and just wanted our possessions out of there. We immediately packed our things into a rented van and brought them back with us. Upon our arrival home, we checked everything against a detailed inventory we'd made at the time the unit was filled. To our surprise and dismay, we discovered that we are now missing three high quality artworks (they'd been rolled and stored in a large diameter tube) and a coin collection belonging to my father. We recall these items having been there when we moved from one unit to the other. The apparent 'untouched' condition of our unit had deceived us into thinking nothing had been taken this time. We were wrong. Obviously the thieves are VERY neat and/or had plenty of time without worry of being caught.. Nothing was ransacked in the least. I'm told by staff that there were no other break-ins during this period. As there are hundreds of units here, I find it highly suspicious that only our two units were targeted. The only people besides us who knew which units were ours are staff. And the second time, staff removed our lock and had keys to a new lock in their possession. After the first incident we were told they could not replace the lock nor have the keys in their possession. Something isn't right. Of course, to be honest, I have no idea who broke into the unit. But something at Public Storage is very wrong. I was given the telephone number of the Public Storage 'district manager'. I called and spoke with him after the first theft and we were to talk again, he did not call back. We called the district manager again following the second theft. We've left messages for him but he has not been responsive. Today I was given a number of a Public Storage VP. I called her and left a message. I've not heard back from her. Needless to say I am VERY disappointed with Public Storage! This month's storage has cost me perhaps $5,000 in losses, $1000 in travel expenses, and almost $200 in rent (they REFUSED to refund after two -- that's TWO -- break-ins). That's quite costly. From my point of view, I'd say the rent isn't worth it given what is all too obviously exceedingly lax security and easily compromised units. read more

I've accidentally had my stuff here for going on 3 years: I was supposed to be gone maybe 9 months, and well, you know, life happened and I've been traipsing without my stuff for a while. I had been disgruntled over the pricing. Each year, my unit price has gone up significantly - last time, it went up 25%! I also found the former property staff a bit truculent for my tastes; perhaps she was great at the administration, but she simply shouldn't have been in customer service. From a facilities perspective, however, it's a nice place. It's clean and secure, which seems to be all one wants in these things. It's located near the highway and convenient to moving truck places, public transportation, etc. It has flat dollys for use. I do have issue with a couple of technical problems. One, if you stay past the gate cut-off, you WILL get stuck in the building with no way out - no emergency exit, no way to call anyone. That seems almost illegal in its dangerous-ness. Also, the elevator is secured in that you have to use a personal security code tied to your unit to access the elevator. However, that is a problem if you have more than one unit on different floors, since you are required to use 2 codes and come all the way to the first floor to go to the 2nd unit. Also, by the time it can sometimes take the elevator to arrive, the code has timed out, and you have to re-enter it. Plus, it's futzy and sometimes takes a few tries to get it accepted. It would seem easy enough to program the system for one account. I am unclear why they lock the dollys up at night, so that anyone coming later than office hours may not have access. I'm also confounded as to why they lock the commercial trash container - there is nowhere to put trash of any kind, which is highly nonsensical. You also will not have access to a bathroom if you are messing around with your stuff after the office closes. However, on a very positive note, office staff has changed and now Megan works there. She helped me move toward resolving an old billing error and also did me a solid on a second unit which I had to take when my movers turned out to be con artists (see review of Viper). She seems to understand the nature of customer relating, and so I am feeling much more satisfied, overall, with the experience. read more

I can't gush enough about these storage units. My boyfriend and I rented a unit while looking for apartments and found ours to be very clean and sized quite fairly for the price. It was also only a few units away from a door back outside- perfect for loading / unloading. Hours of access were awesome too- 7am to 9pm. We never had any problems with our unit, and the one day the gate was broken Art the manager stayed around until 9 to make sure everyone would still have access. Art and his staff are very friendly, helpful and professional. If you ever need a storage unit, I would highly recommend one at this Public Storage facility. read more

Although I would have preferred an outside unit (cost prohibitive), I was surprised at how clean, fairly open, and very well lit the interior hallways of this Public Storage are. I was expecting dim and creepy, but I have yet to get the heebie-jeebies here. My only gripe with the facility is that there should be more flatbeds available. My point person here from Day One has been Tara. She has been a total superstar with her warmth, humor and professionalism. These days a lot of people are forced into stuffing their lives into storage lockers and it's not usually for happy reasons. It's truly a breath of fresh air to have someone like Tara around - her knowledge and compassion make the whole storage experience much less cold and daunting. Best price I could find in the neighborhood and I was very pleasantly surprised with not only the cleanliness of the facility but also by the awesome customer service!! We were greeted by Megan, the attendant on duty and she showed us the unit and handled everything efficiently and professionally! We were in and out in 20 mins tops! Thanks Megan!! Follow on more recently. The newer staff is still very nice and very helpful with the pickups and drop-offs by freight carriers to my unit for work...but here's the thing... The management (not the staff, they are tops) has been very remiss in keeping the elevator working. They only seem to allow the staff to get it band-aided. It needs a complete overhaul/ or a least a good preventative maintenance. The staff does great job on keeping things running, even if they are understaffed, and often have to cover both this location and the PS across the street. Thankfully the creepy van with stolen bikes has finally disappeared from across the street. That, and they just keep jacking up the rates, because PS has cornered the market locally. So 5 Star for the staff, 3 star for elevator, 2 star for pricing. The 4 overall is for the staff. Previous comments: I have utilizing this facility for going on 4 years now. I keep my work demo equipment there and utilize it as a pickup/dropoff location. Megan and all the staff have always been super helpful. It is clean, has good security, and plenty of carts usually (sometimes they get thieved, but that is hardly their fault...people suck). Best part of all that the parking lot is totally covered by the second story. Great if you need to unload expensive research equipment, or other things that don't like to get wet.. Unlike the other storage units in the area, which all have their parking exposed to the elements. Also another nice addition is the restroom behind the sliding doors on the first floor if you need to use it (just need to type in your code) read more

Megan is awesome! I was so stressed about having to put my stuff in storage just for a week. She was so patient and nice. She obliterated all the stress I had regarding my move. I highly recommend working with Megan. The facility is also clean and easily accessible. Megan informed me that the natural gas refueling station is close by and this is why police are always patrolling the neighborhood. The place seems very safe and it doesn't hurt that it borders Albany and Berkeley. This is the best storage place in the Bay Area. read more

I gave a negative review of this location a few weeks ago after they raised our rent by 31%. They called me regarding the review and have since lowered the increase to around 20% and have said they'll refund the extra amount they charged me next month. I believe they will do that. It's still a large increase but I really appreciate their offering to lower it. read more

What I love, love, did I say love, about this facility is the site manager Shanice. She is so professional, helpful, and lovable. Store here if you want the best manager ever!!! The gate closes pretty early at this location - gate access hours are 6 AM to 6 PM ... but on the good side, you don't have any riff-raff riffling around the facility at late hours, so that totally helps prevent unwanted campers and break-ins!!! read more

No thank you. I booked online. Came in during the covid outbreak because I needed to close my business. I got a call within seconds of booking online. Person on the other end explained all these details about how to show up and when. Bring your face mask please! OK will do! They didn't tell me to bring a lock. Not at all! So I arrive mask on and ready to rent my unit. The lady behind the counter asks if I had a lock. I said no it securing the truck I rented this morning. She says I MUST have a lock to secure the unit and she's happy to sell me one. I explained that no one asked me to arrive with a lock. They told me about the mask tho!! I asked why didn't they tell me when they called. SHE SAID IT'S NOT PART OF HER SCRIPT!! I said "If is a requirement that i secure the unit in front of you maybe it should be?" I do not need a second lock from my unit so I said no thank you. I assume I would have been nickled and dimed from that point forward. NOT TODAY SATAN! I'll never use them again! I went to this location on 3/26/2020. I was quoted different prices than I found on-line. I completed a no obligation to rent reservation (it expressly said this), with no credit card required, for a climate controlled unit off the ground floor for the reservation. The first month gives the benefit of 50% savings on the $312 monthly rate. All in. While I am in the process of confirming this reservation on-line, the lady from the public storage office I had just spoken to in person leaves me a voice mail about having to schedule that someone will be there for me on the day I reserved, again, advertised as no obligation to rent. I complete the on-line reservation and confirm the no obligation to rent reservation and receive a confirmation number. I get an email showing a small increase of the monthly rent advertised plus a surprise $24 administrative fee, in effect shifting the benefit of the first month lowered price savings to the lady in the office, Courtney, fraudulently. The phone call obviously triggered the change between the on-line confirmation and the confirmation email. There had been no advertised administrative fee. I don't want to pay for someone else's day trading habits. read more

The facility has had the elavator down twice for over a month each time. If your stuff is on the second floor you have to use the stairs i.e.you CAN"T get your stuff or put stuff in. The company does not even warn you, so people drivie up with trucks to unlaod or load and finding out after renting trucks and movers. What a disaster!!! Renter Beware!!! I needed a short term storage solution and opted for this place as it is near my work and home....perfect right? Well, yes on the location but the rest is something out of Horror Stories. I was told there was no monthly contract, so I could move out anytime and was given the code and key to move in. I was also told that access was 6am-6pm, but they failed to tell me that was only Mon-Fri and they close at 5pm on Sat-Sun.....which is really stupid as most people need later access on weekends. I missed the 5pm on my first day ( a Saturday ) and had to then pay for an extra day of a UHaul rental truck and helpers! They happily charged my card for the first month in full on August 7th and then charged me again, in full, on September 3rd. I moved out on October 2nd ( btw I called them 2 days prior just to be courteous and left a message but they never called back ) for a total of 56 days. Here's the best part, even thought they billed and got 2 months of rent and I was there less than 60 days......I now have a number calling me 24/7 for a 3rd months rent they want me to pay for?!?!?!?! The number is 877-482-4860 and they don't want to hear that I am paid up and do not owe anything, they just keep calling. No matter how you look at it, I was there for less than 2 months and I am not caving to any pressure....I will happily file a small claims suit against them or, better yet, organize a class action suit, as I am 100% sure I am not the only one they are preying on!!! I came here after coming in a few months ago just looking for info and I was happy to see Megan was working this time too. She happily helped me then and was the one who helped me with my storage room today. I was shown 2 rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. I decided on the climate control floor because I have some things that need that kind of love and tenderness. I was happy to see that no matter where you go, it is clean and has ample lighting. It is safe with security codes given to everyone. Oh and lets nit forget it has covered parking!!!!! That is a nice touch! Definitely recommend this place. read more

In no way is this review due to the property manager Megan or her staff. They are worthy of 5 stars. The problem began almost a year ago when I warned Megan that the keypad for elevator access was dying. She told me she had reported it, and reiterated that when I made periodic mention. When it failed, I and other tenants lost access for a week. When I emailed upper management, one guys replied that it was all fixed now and ignored my request for a rental rebate. His boss never even replied to me. This place is far from the cheapest, and I thought I was paying for a higher level of service. Apparently the sings about how much they care don't apply to upper management. I will be moving soon. I have mostly only heard of stories of storage units since i've never needed one. you know, hookers working out of them, mole people living in them, stuff like that. But this public storage is very clean and appears to be pretty normal... so far so good. The only downside to this location is the narrow doorways they have going to some of the units (mine included)... i guess they lock those doors at night for security, but they were a giant pain in the ass when it came to moving a mattress through on a cart... almost perfect read more
