VERY BAD PLACE. Nobody answers your calls, elevators (all of them) have been out of order over a month now. Those of us 2nd story people can't get our things out. They raised my rent more than 30% and I can't get my things. I'm a senior and I can't carry down stairs. Not to mention no carts to use (EVER). Management sucks (No Help). Also went early morning to carry a few small things out and opened door to stairs to find blood everywhere. Pictures downloaded. I've seen people that look like their living in their units. Harassing calls after online reservation with no voice mail. The lady who "runs" it is very rude and has 0 customer service. Didn't even rent with them because of her when 1st month was only $1. The elevator has not worked for over 45 days and when you have to move out and they gave you a storage unit on the third floor they will provide no help no dollies to go down the stairs or anything. Space is clean and safe. Easy access with app. MUST have app to make it work. Carts are not always available and office is not always open but you can leave a message or message via app and they will get back to you. Response time is very good. read more

Pretty horrendous. They raise the rent any chance they can get and there aren't enough handcarts to actually move your stuff around so be prepared to buy and bring one of your own. EDIT: if it tells you anything, I wrote this review today with no idea that I had written basically a carbon copy in the past. Do not store your items here, and don't be fooled by price. The elevators are rarely in functioning order. The staff is utterly useless. Unhelpful and rude. They blame the customers for any issues, especially the fact that there are 0 carts available even when the building has only a person or two. They don't meet their bare minimum of services, BUT THEY WILL RAISE YOUR RENT FREQUENTLY. There are many other issues, open rat traps, and a vile bathroom, but those are the most prevalent. I also never see any security staff of any sort, just some person pushing a trash can around. Just pick somewhere else. read more

Monthly rent prices are gradually rising, and the internal service is terrible. The lack of staff during business hours, calls are not returned, and finding a cart is always difficult because there aren't many. The bathroom is always dirty and poorly maintained. In my recent experience, more than a week ago I spoke by phone with a customer service representative and they told me that when I emptied and handed in the storage unit, I had to do it before my last payday, and so I did on October 1st or 2nd. But they keep sending me messages to pay the whole month even after I returned the space. I don't think it's fair that they want to charge me a month's worth when I'm not going to use the space because I already returned. Please be conscious and considerate, this place is very bad, from customer service to price and consideration. read more

I rented a unit at the Carlsbad Public Storage on April 19, 2025, and paid in full, as required. According to their own contract (Section 2.1.1), my payment covered 30 days of access -- through May 18. Despite this, I was locked out at the gate and told I owed rent on May 1, which directly violates the agreement I signed. When I went in person to calmly explain and ask for help, I was met with rude, dismissive treatment. I was told they "legally didn't have to let me in," even though I was still in my paid rental period. They are charging late fees and threatening liens based on rent I do not owe, and they've taken no accountability for their mistake. The facility staff was unprofessional and showed no willingness to resolve the issue -- just blamed me for something that's clearly an internal error or misapplied policy. I've since submitted complaints to Public Storage corporate, the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and the Better Business Bureau. I do not recommend this location to anyone. If you store here, be prepared to defend your rights -- even when you've done everything correctly. read more

The unit itself was fine. Getting the service started was easy. Carts aren't easy to find when needed, but we made do. However, trying to get the service and the billing to stop has been the most difficult and frankly abusive experience. We vacated on 12-19-24. We cleaned and did not lock the unit. Someone apparently locked the unit and they are not indicating that they do not have a key. We did find the key and although we have since moved to another state, we have made several trips there to try to return the key and speak to a manager. We have never even seen a manager there. It's ridiculous. We have also noticed that because of the lack of supervision, homeless people follow cars in so they have a covered place to sleep. I am now going to mail this key and get a signature for receiving it, but I can only hope the mail carrier has better luck finding the mysterious manager. I am certainly not paying for a unit I haven't used since 12-19 and notified the company through the app that we vacated and was told by their corporate service team that we won't be charged because they see we haven't accessed the premises. DO NOT RENT FROM PUBLIC STORAGE -UNDERSTAND THEIR RENTAL INCREASE POLICY!! IT IS UNJUST. This review is not about one at site. The onsite managers at Tyler st. are always friendly. The location is fine. I AM WRITING TO WARN FOLKS ABOUT PUBLIC STORAGE'S POLICY ABOUT RENT INCREASES!!. The initial fee is low but after being in the property for six months or less you are hit with a rental increase. This increase is usually $30.00 to $40.00. My current rent is going from $109. to 132.00. Less than a year ago it was $77.00 I ask them to not increase it and they give me three months before the rent increases. If I want to end my contract and open a new one with a lower monthly fee. I have to be out of the system for at least 7 days before I can rent as a new customer. I have been at this location for over 11 years and this policy rate increase was not in place when I initially rented. They say it is about demand but that is not true. I have the smallest unit on the property. But I will be paying more than someone who has a unit twice my size! Other have complained about this issue.This is price gouging and it needs to be reported. I am going to ask the Better Business Bureau to open a case on Public Storage. I am a senior and don't have the ability to move my property to another storage facility. read more

Avoid this storage facility! There are so many better facilities at better costs in surrounding area. Here are the reasons for my 1 star and if I could this would be a zero. Please read before committing. The only way to keep these corporates in check is to give honest reviews and assist future customers from getting treated poorly. 1.) In 18 months my rate went from $118 for a 5X10 to $224. The final straw was when they raised me from $187 to $224. 2.) Facility is rarely staffed. Customer service is uncooperative. 3.) Elevators are constantly not functioning 4.) Not enough push carts 5.) Facility is like a maze with homeless wandering around. Had a moment where a strange woman was riding her bike thru the hallways whistling one evening. CREEPY! 6.) Finally and this is the KICKER! Upon move out I gave them proper 2 day notice per the contact and swept out unit. The unit was empty on Feb.1st and when they still automatically withdrew the $224 I complained and was told I would be charged for full month and no pro ration. The 2nd KICKER was when they told I told them I would be moving some stuff back in for the month since I paid for it. I was told that was not possible as the unit has been advertised and my gate code cancelled. Obviously this whole experience has made me angry and frustrated. Surplus bayonet from the car; which makes this mediocre car cleaning come to a cost of $340... plus a $20 tip (yeah, I 'tipped' them before I realized that they ripped me off). I used this storage for a few months. The manager was fantastic, he was very attentive from day one. He was fast to work with and of course the best part was the military discount. The storage was clean. I love that they added a trash bin recently because there was none before and it just makes it useful to have a place to throw away the trash that can accumulate during these storage trips. The hours worked well for me. The evenings are usually busy but during the day and even on weekends the place was pretty empty. It made it easy to park, load and unload. They have 3 carts that one can borrow to move your stuff around so it's helpful to visit when there is few people. Currently they are asking for everyone to use a mask while in the premises and they allow one party at a time for elevator use. I am satisfied with the service and will definitely consider the storage place for the future if I need services again. read more

So happy to finally be out of this place. Avoid this location. My storage unit was broken into, many things stolen. They were not in a hurry to fix my storage unit so for a couple weeks my unit was accessible. The people who broke into my unit got a ladder and basically pried open wire roofing. The company took two weeks to fix it and their temporary solution was just to zip tie it. So basically I was paying over $140-160 dollars for an insecure storage unit. I waited to close my account to write this review. I hav been a client here for close to 2 years. First few months everything was fine. I came in to retrieve my diving gear recently to find rat poop and urine everywhere. It smelled in the elevator and on the whole floor. The place is never clean, they only have 3 carts for the whole facility! I was fortunate enough to have everything in either a thick plastic tote, or not reachable by stacking things they couldn't climb or chew on. I lost only a few cloth items and a few shirts, but this could be devastating to have furniture or appliances rendered unusable by damage. I moved down the street to uhaul for the same price for a much larger storage! (5x5 here is 94 bucks; uhaul is 5x10 CLEAN, plenty carts for 95). It's unbelievable that they don't do anything about this. Oh. And the elevator was broken, so I had to move everything out from the third floor! I've been here in the evening or early hours to homeless people walking in the halls, or sleeping by the elevators. Scary and not cool for clients. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Let me start off. The $1 for the first month is a joke. I spent over $40 moving in there. They required me to buy their insurance which is another $8 a month. They did not inform me that I could use my homeowners insurance. Two weeks after moving in, I received a voicemail from the people at Public Storage. They wondered if I was moving out because my unit was empty and unlocked. I had some really expensive items in this unit. $20k +. I panicked. I immediately went to the storage facility and learned that they made a clerical error. I was relieved but the manager, Jessica, told me that I could "choke the guy that opened the account" and that "she'd look the other way". I never got an apology, only the manager blaming her employee. As I stood there in shock from the news my stuff was stolen to knowing it was an error, i was asked to sign new documents. I asked what I was signing and the manager yelled at me to "just sign them". I asked again what the documents were and why. Things got heated and the manager actually stormed out of the office. The other clerk was very nice and calm. She explained to me that the unit # was wrong on the original lease. So I signed and left. I was relieved. Two weeks later I went back to the storage unit and my gate code didnt work! I had to call corporate to find out the new gate code. Today, I went to the office to cancel my lease. I was prorated for the rent but I was charged a full months insurance. The manager would not explain this to me and told me to call the 800# for customer service. She was very rude, again. Do not store your stuff here! I recently had my unit broken into and all my valuable items stolen. You may have heard about the rat problem mentioned by other users, there is also a transient/theft problem. Security is non-existent. I came to get some items from my locker and the front gate was stuck open and my lock had been partially drilled out, preventing my from entering my unit. I later found out that someone had cut a hole in the roof and extracted anything of value from my unit. Who knows how long they had access to my unit. I have had no assistance from management. Unresponsive. We will see what insurance said. They even made me buy a new lock to secure my things for a couple hours while I rented a truck to vacate their terrible premises. I'm sure they are going to fight me tooth and nail for this month's payment as well. Not worth it, even if it is the most convenient for you. Front desk people were nice. read more

What can I say. I'm absolutely devastated. All of my belongings are ruined with rat urine and feces. I was lied to by the manager Doug. Was told I have nothing to worry about and if they do get to your stuff the insurance you purchased will cover it. That the negative yelp reviews are from months ago and they have taken care of the issue. I just picked up my belongings today. My sofa, my fine suits, my clothing, ironing board, all kitchen utensils, comforters, bedding, pillows, my leather ottoman, many different cleaning supplies. On and on. Hmmm. I rented a unit on a special move in rate...like all storage facilities its going to cost more than $1 to move in. Having used many storage facilities in the past - they are up to par. LIKES - The units are clean, carts are provided and easily accessed during business hours, girls at the desk friendly, conveniently located west of the 5 in old carlsbad. DISLIKES - you have to purchase their insurance but I had to pay for insurance at the last storage place too so I guess its not uncommon for this add-on...but I question whether they can legally require you to purchase it if you already have insurance that will cover your property. read more

Beware. May not be as secure as you think. I went to move out of my unit on 10/5. Opened the door an immediately noticed the TV was not there. I went to the office and they showed no concern, stating "It could not have been broken into". I thought, OK maybe I'm losing my mind. Maybe it's behind other items. I emptied the entire unit, and while doing so noticed many boxes had been cut opened (I made sure every box was taped shut before moving in). After filing a police report, I went back to the office to tell them that for sure it had been broken into and that I filed a report. The response this time, "Sorry that happened to you" I choose this place because it is code gated and camera everywhere. Beware, doesn't seem anyone is monitoring or care about your belongings. I understand, they can't sit there and monitor the cameras 24/7 but it amazed me how they could care less what happened to their customer and didn't even come to my unit to check it out, see what could have happened, etc. in an effort to prevent this from happening to someone else. Zero stars. Unacceptable. Stepping out of the elevator you can immediately smell rat urine. Rat poop all over the ground, both inside and outside of the units. Some of my sons most precious belongings covered in rat piss. Poop on top and and inside boxes. The worst thing is that the aroma is so potent, EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING smells of pee. My wood furniture has soaked up the scent. What I find most disturbing is the fact that the facility is aware of the issue, but does nothing aside from hand you a piece of paper to file a claim. Since I was aware this place doesn't prorate, I thought maybe because of the condition, they would allow me a few extra days to remove my stuff. Seeing as how now I need to repay movers to move my stuff AGAIN.... but no. They told me even if I go one day into the next month I will be required to pay for that full month. Absolutely unsanitary and flat out bad business!! Nonetheless, flu and all... I HAD to get my stuff out of there. Do not recommend. You can find a clean storage for less.
