The manager was cool; however, there was a sofa in our unit, no lock (I purchased a lock for 20) and I was unable to move my items in. This was really inconvenient because I had my daughter with me. I think it would've been more helpful if the staff checked the unit to be sure it was 1. empty and 2. the lock was in fact available. read more

I am sick to my stomach after spending thousands of dollars to store my furniture / other items at Public Storage on NC-55 (inside unit). I hired movers to vacate the space last week and move the items to my home - and then discovered that several pieces are COVERED in mold. I have been unable to get in touch with the property manager on-site and have contacted my insurance company to see if anything can be done to recover some of the cost. Regardless, the health risk is simply not worth it, and I will be junking everything that was stored there. And as other reviewers have noted, price gouging is the MO here! The storage unit itself is great, clean and perfectly climate controlled. My issue is the staff or lack thereof. I tried calling them as I had an issue with my unit as far as pricing but no one answered the phone after they were supposed to be open. I drove the 20 minutes to their office only to find no one there and no signage posted saying they were on break, within the building helping another customer, etc. I sat for about 15 minutes with my infant in the car, mind you they have been "open" for 30 minutes at this time according to their website and the hours posted on the door. When someone finally arrived she saw me sitting in the car. I proceeded to get myself and the baby out of the car, which she saw. When I got to the door it was still locked, I waited of course. When she finally decided to open it, she looked confused as to why I could possible be there as if they weren't supposed to be open! Long story short, units are great but the service is unacceptable. They have no problem blowing up your phone if they need something from you. But if you need any help as you're paying for your unit, they never call back even if you leave a message. And they only show up on site when they want to and on their own schedule. read more

I recently moved from one storage unit to this one (closer to the home office) and I was pleased with how simple it was to move in, relatively speaking. This unit is just around the corner from my home and I picked a day to move a 10' U-Haul full of work contents onto the 3rd floor, solo. I set up everything through Public Storage's online system, downloaded the app, plugged in my information and my unit was ready when they stated it would be. Using the PS app, you can enter your gate key code in and use the app to open the gate through your mobile device. This was a nice touch. There were 2 dolly carts available for me to use and both elevator doors worked so I could cart up 17 loads to the 3rd floor. The unit was clean and they provided their own lock for an additional charge, waiting for me on the ground inside of the unit. I didn't need it so I took it back to the service office and received a refund for the price. This 10' x 8' interior unit is temp-controlled so I don't have to worry about packing up things in extreme heat or frigid cold temps going forward. It's the perfect size for what I needed and is much closer to home. So far...so good with no issues. Let's hope that continues. read more

I got a 20x10 unit in November. I just got a notice my rent was going up 38%! I wasn't under an introductory rate or anything, just a HUGE increase in 6 months. They kind of have you over a barrel because while I can find a cheaper unit somewhere, I would have to move everything again. Do not do business with this company if you can help it!! read more

My wife and I used public storage for a couple months while we were refinishing our basement. In that time, they changed our lock (we were not late on our bill) and our stuff was ransacked. My wife had her Christmas ornaments ( 2 ornaments a year for our kids from the year they were born until current. At the time that is 16 years) stolen. We had a duffle bag full of my military equipment stolen and we had other personal items destroyed. When we called customer service we were told "You store items at your own risk". Why the hell are we paying every month for secured storage that is NOT SECURED! With the exception of the former property manager, Sarah, it has been nothing but a terrible experience with this place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE STORE ANYTHING HERE! However, I was a little after nine leaving one night and they treated me like a child; sending me an email and a text with a stern warning about being late to leave out (not in). This place is awful the cost for me has nearly doubled over the last couple of years of renting a small unit here. I say the price for me because they still rent the same sided unit for the same price that I first received. That's just not the price they offer to the costumers who have already rented. What value are they charging for with the egregious price hike, well they got rid of having a human being on location and have replaced them with a kiosk with a screen. Is this an issue. It is for me. There have been a few time that I've gone to my unit and the door to the climes controlled building is malfunctioning and wide open. This is not secure, this is not climate controlled. They've cut their costs, they've cut their quality and they've cut their value. This place is a scam. It may be Leah's, but it's still a scam. Save you money and your belonging. Rent somewhere else. It's possible all storage rentals do this, but I'd be shocked if any other place is as bad as public storage. read more

Be very careful the prices keep going up on the units and they try to get you with the fees. You can bring your own lock but they want you to believe you can't. You just need to come with it at the time of rental. It is disappointing that they do not offer loyal clients any breaks. read more

Bait and switch. Rented a unit for $110 starting in 12/21 and without my knowledge increased to $145. (over 30% increase in less than 6 months) I didnt notice until closing account in 10/21 t as it was on auto-pay. They claim to have sent me a legal notice in the mail which I never received. Interestingly EVERY other document that I received from them was via email. Denise in customer service was rude and condescending and simply cut me off when I suggested she could resolve the issue with me or an attorney. Read the fine print if you go here and beware of their business practices and lack of willingness to resolve a situation beyond hiding behind a contract and a claim to have sent a legal notice. read more

Public Storage raised the price of our unit from $107 to $142 with a month's notice. Huge hassle to have to move to a different storage facility. They were also rude to a delivery person who came to our unit, even though the delivery was discussed when we paid for the unit. Two stars for location. read more
