I have rented storages often and I usually go to the same place. This time I decided to try prime storage 2385 Main Chula Vista. My boyfriend went to get the lock we bought I could not go I'm disabled. When he arrived they told him that he was not on the agreement so he called me and told him to hand the phone to him but the worker declined to speak to me. I called the main number and told them to add him. So the next day my boyfriend and son went to the storage because we only have a few days to move. When they got there the employee that was so rude the day before put there lock on my storage unit and it's paid for. So we couldn't move in we had to bring everything back. I want a total refund!!! August 11, 2023 EDIT: RE: business manager Bob S's recent reply here that they can't find my file in their records: I returned to Price Self Storage 2 or 3 years ago and cleared my things out of that facility and moved them to the town I moved to, so you'd have to look at records going back to then. I FIRST DRAFTED THIS REVIEW ON JAN. 19, 2020: I would give Price Self Storage on Murphy Canyon Rd a 4 to 5 star rating (their staff are very friendly/helpful, facilities are clean and efficient, the load-in truck driver service is great), BUT, they just raised my storage fee almost TEN PERCENT, after being there ONLY 4 MONTHS, and with ONLY TWO WEEKS NOTICE til the rate raise. 9.4% markup after only 4 months of being there, that I and many people can't decline because of unavailability to just up and find a new storage facility, return to town and move the items?! The ETHICAL way a storage facility should raise rates (more than just a couple % per year) is to give customers longer notice (like 6 months notice - not just two weeks). Tsk tsk. Shame on them for this. (after reading some Yelp reviews, I see LOTS of people telling the same story here, going back to at least 2014!) Oh, also worth mentioning, in the few days I was in and out of the gated property, loading my things into storage, I saw, several times, cars tailgating other cars (including mine) to get through the gate. I don't know if I should blame Covid-19's for the change on hours of operation, because my company has been using their service for a while, and in the past I could come in any time I wanted, even late at night, which I like about them the most as my storage didn't have that kind of hours, even then I was having trouble navigating and hitting my car bumper a few times while trying to leave the premise, it was fun time. Now I can't even stay after 6 pm, someone will be driving around checking on you and asking you to leave, sadly I wish I wasn't on a time frame, but I didn't like to be rushed, now that I continuously coming back to get stuffs for my work, it just took me so much time to back track, I left work at 8:30 pm, and the place already closed, so I had to come back the next day to put stuffs out of my car and into the storage again. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE: This location has RATS. Then when you mention something to them they'll tell you to MOVE OUT as the best option. Stating "your request to have a pest free unit" after being there for a while: they raised my rent, NO PROBLEM- then when I mentioned "OPTIONS" to go about rat droppings in my unit. I was told the best option is to MOVE OUT. I don't mind paying more for rent but they could atleast do their part to ensure a pest free/ clean environment. They want more from us therefore I want more from them. No way I'll pay more for rent and still have the same issues as when I first moved in. The first day I moved in there way a dead rat in my unit that the worker cleaned up then sprayed febreze. Everyday after I enter my unit and notice ceiling debris and rat droppings in my unit. Which I have very expensive ART WORK in my unit. They could've offered me a deal to move out before the 12th and they'll waive my fee. (since I already paid the month) They could've found me a smaller unit downstairs or had me move to a different unit (at the same location) they could've reached out to the barrio Logan location and got with management to allow me to move in for the first month- Not to say FREE but being that I paid at 47th location to put that towards my new location rent. (just figure something out) (I know it sounds crazy- I'm just providing OPTIONS ) Now I have to be inconvenienced with work, time and money. I have to purchase ANOTHER moving truck (Inconvenienced) because the rat issue is not from my unit. Pack/ Load and move all my items that's in my unit that I already put inside. These guys don't offer ANYTHING to help the situation. AND I would also like to let people know. NEVER EVER go during their lunch time. You give them your driver license to rent a cart. You go up to your unit, come back down later to leave and the office door is LOCKED. They don't call the people who's Drivers license their holding on too. They have all our # on file but can't call us to inform us that they're going to lunch. THAT shows you their professionalism. Me and another guy sat outside in the HOT SUMMER time for over 45 mins waiting for this guy to come back. Me and the guy waiting was on FIRE!!! Then walking back to unlock the door the guy took his sweeeeeeeet time to walk to the door. Then to have an attitude as if we were the problem. It's your license so you can't just leave. What if you have kids to pick up or an emergency, or errands to do. HOW IS THIS A PROFESSIONAL WAY to go about things. This place was my peace of mind. I needed a place to store my items last minute and Chris (the manager) was very helpful on the process from day 1. I got a unit that was just what I needed. He never tried to give me anything more. I ended up going away from the state and I was able to set up autopay online which was very helpful. I came back a couple of weeks ago. Called them up to take my stuff out of there and it was so easy to do it. No hidden charges, no fuzz, nada just took my stuff out, removed my lock, signed a couple papers and done. Why do I still rent there? The place is falling apart, the management raises the rent indiscriminately (3x/ year?) They have no respect for small businesses, and don't give a ________ about their tenants. They are trying to get tenants who have been there to leave by raising rents, since apparently they can get another sucker to sign up. DO NOT RENT FROM PRICE STORAGE they will take your money, raise your rent without telling you. I believe this is illegal. I have spoken to management about the constant price raising, all they do is shrug their shoulders and suggest that we pay an entire year (or two???) up front. I'm finding a new place asap- this is my second review- the last time they messaged me and offered me a discount, then raised my rent quickly afterwards! There was absolutely no help from them during the pandemic, even while my business was closed and draining money. There is no way to explain large rent increases multiple times/ year, aside from greed and the desire to get their tenants to move out to bring in new tenants at higher rents. Where do I begin? First off did an online rental of a 5x5 with supposedly the first month free. When we got to the office we were greeted by Ashley who said we should see the unit first. She drove us ALLLLLLL the way down to the second to last building and it took us a minute to find a "similar" unit while we walked thru the halls of storage aimlessly like lost rats in a maze. We finally saw one and she convinced me to get a bigger unit. We headed bk to the office to swap for larger unit and an HOUR later we were completed with the booking. I was so annoyed at this time as we had people waiting with us to drop our things off. Dont get me wrong she was really really sweet however I blame management for the remainder of horrors we encountered. One she told us there were carts we could use to move our stuff from car to unit. SHE DID NOT MENTION WE NEEDED THEIR SPECIAL TOKENS WHICH YOU NEED AN ID FOR JUST TO USE. so with this said there were TWO unnecessary trips back to the office for tokens BEFORE we could even start moving the items and an hour after we had first arrived! This was first trip. Ashley also advised that their ofc hours were 7-7. WRONG! Trip 2 we arrive with another car load, get the stupid tokens, only to find out the elevator that leads to my unit was BROKEN!!!! we had to use another elevator that was so far from our unit we once found ourselves annoyed and regretting the rental agreement. The office stated it should be working next day. Trip 3 we arrive at 6:20 to drop off a smaller load as we were done and go to the office to get the stupid tokens for the carts they are so afraid to have stolen, only to be told by KAT that they arent giving tokens because the office closes in 10 min. Advised her thats 6:30 not 7 and she stated the office closed at 6:30. I advised her Ashley told us 7-7 and that i had a load already in my car and could't hand carry my items due to the ELEVATOR STILL BEING BROKEN. KAT looked at me and shrugged like too bad so sad. Advised her we just needed it to unload the last load and would return their token to the slot and she again shrugged and said no. Maintenance then heard me and the hubby talking about her and he went to the office and got me a token which we gratefully used, then handed back to him after using the cart. If it wasn't for him I would've lost my mind. I AM 6 days into my storage contract and already submitting my 30 day notice to vacate the unit because i refuse to provide my money for crappy people. Again not Ashleys fault as she is new so management needs to train their employees better and thanks to the maintenance/security guy who saved our night but people like KAT should not be handling your customers if you want to retain your customers. Update: 7/29/21: Left message for Bob S in 7/27/21, no return call. Called again today hopefully I will have a return call today. FYI there are many businesses that don't continuously raise their prices every 4-6 months just because they can based on market demand. Yes apartment communities, hotels and airlines do ... because they can and are also known for price gouging. Not sure that I would want to make this comparison to those industries known for price gouging for my business. Further, Bob S never addressed the issue of Mike H, who Bob S is not familiar with, reneging on the agreement I thought was promised to me of keeping my rent at $150. Previously, my rent was much higher. And it has now been increased to $163, not $160. Also your homeowners/renters insurance generally covers contents at your storage facilities, so don't let Price sell you their song and dance story that you have to take their insurance. Of course Price advertises one rate online, and then starts tacking on administrative fees, and convinces you that you have to have their insurance. Bottom line again, do your research! Much cheaper facilities that are clean and safe in and around San Diego county. Update 7/27/21: Correction to my 7/25/21 post. I did not speak with "Bob S" of Price Self Storage on 5/19/20, I spoke with "Mike H". Had the misfortune of speaking with "Mike H" today in response to my 7/25/21 updated post. My recollection of our conversation from last year was that my rent was going to be frozen at a specific rate. Because I mixed up the 2 names, during our conversation today and because my recollection of our conversation was different from his, I was specifically told by Mike H that I was fabricating facts and events, in essence calling me a liar. Let me see if I understand this. Because I mixed up a name on the notes that I took and I have a different accounting of our conversation, I, not Mike H the business representative of a company who is in my opinion is taking advantage of consumers and jacking up prices when people are trying to financially recover from a global pandemic, is fabricating facts. Is this an example of good customer service?? Then Mike H went on to say that I am only paying 50% of the unit's value. In response, I pointed out that Price Self Storage offers reduced rates to brand new customers versus customers who have been with this facility and supported this business during the pandemic, Mike H said that wasn't true. He is correct. However when I spoke with him last year, new customers were being offered an introductory rate of approx $119 with the first month free. When I checked the website after I talked to him, I learned that the current advertised rate for a unit the same size as mine is $197 with 50% off the first month. Based on this information, it is Mike H who is now "fabricating" facts, needs to familiarize himself with his own company's website and perhaps a refresher on elementary level math. 50% of $197 is $98.50. I am currently paying $150 per month. So for the first month, a new customer is paying LESS than me. For the second month the rate goes to $197 for a newer customer. Again if I am only paying 50% of the unit's value, the new customer should then be paying $300/month - - but they're not, they are still only paying $197.00. I am attaching a screen shot of this location's website prices taken yesterday 7/27/21. I also pointed out to Mike H that most locations of Price Self Storage are on the higher end of storage units in San Diego. Again Mike H told me flat out I was wrong. However, again doing my research, for a facility in sorrento valley, Trojan Storage (619) 618-1370), which is closer to to my home, a 5x 10 unit is $120. I confirmed with that location (spoke with Juan - super nice and so helpful!), that for the first 2 months, depending on if I get an upper unit with elevator access or a drive up ready unit, I'll either get a 35% or 50% discount off of the rate of $120!! Juan further advised that the rates generally are increased every 8-12 months unlike Price Self Storage, who automatically raises rates much more frequently on average $13-$14/month. I admittedly hung up on Mike H in frustration when he kept repeating to me his version of our conversation last year, which differs from mine, that I'm paying only 50% of the "unit's value", that Price Self Storage charges rates that are typical for storage facilities in the area, and after such statements kept repeating "so help me understand where I'm wrong . . .". In a derogatory and sarcastic tone - - again MY opinion. Zero customer service skills. Bottom line, do your research when choosing your storage facility. I will be moving from this facility as soon as I am more recovered from my recent spinal surgery. read more

It felt like they were increasing the rent every other month (exaggerating).. We have used the Murphy Canyon Price Self Storage on and off for many years. Service has always polite and consistent. I took off one star because for long term storage, the price in the unit is regularly increased and it can get expensive. We have a very small home with no garage so this serves as our overflow to keep our home less cluttered. To keep price reasonable, we have to relocate to different unit regularly which is inconvenient. For users who are regulars and pay as agreed, it would be nice to have longer term options that do not increase rent for longer terms. Otherwise, I have been very happy with service! read more
