I had a great experience at this place! Gerren was the man who got me set up with my storage unit. He was very friendly and personable. He gave me a quick tour of my storage unit and even showed me one slightly smaller so I could see it and decide which was better for me. The place is clean and Gerren went over everything with me about the rules and contract details. Definitely a great place, I read the reviews of some of the other places and they didnt sound too appealing. I'm glad I could get a storage rental at this place. read more

My experience here has been wonderful. I feel the price is good for the area and the competition. I love you can use an app to get in and out of the gate. Sometimes it's annoying and doesn't link up but you do get a code as well. The app is nice because you don't have to get out of your car. You can also see your bill and other items. You are only given access to your specific area of storage and i think that is a nice extra layer of protection! The hours are only 6-6 hours which can be hard for some but i over all really like this place read more

One of the best storage unit locations I've ever used! PROs: The front office is very well-stocked and clean. The staff workers are very respectful, knowledgeable, and efficient at their jobs. Renting a unit is very painless and you can even call before and have it held for free for 24 hours. You will have to buy a cylinder lock if you do not already have one, so prepare yourself they are a little pricey but you can use any standard cylinder lock from any storage unit and it should work. The storage site is very secure with a gate to get in and a gate to get out. All of the storage units are alarmed so that's extra protection for you as well. The interior is very clean and the exterior is also clean, no junk or trash anywhere. The storage unit even has bathrooms available for you to use while you're moving. CONs: Zero! read more

Very bad experience yesterday. Was helping to store our daughters things as she moves for a work assignment and was time sensitive. When I got to A1 yesterday morning and unloaded onto carts, I found a sign that "the the only elevator for the building was out of service, but there are stairs in the back of the building and they are sorry for the inconvenience". Now I understand things break. But we have had a unit there for over a year. They have our email, we get bills. However there was NO notification that there was an elevator out. How can that not be step 2 in an outage? Step 1 being call the repair company. In addition there was no one in the office, or available for contact, since it was the weekend. Corporate A1 was no help and only refred us to local management. So after 18 trips to the 3rd floor I finished the move. Still with no contact from A1. I would expect to be contacted by them after numerous attempts on my part have gone unanswered read more

I have numerous storage facilities both business and personal, in both San Diego and on the east coast. A1 pricing is competitive with their initial internet rate offerings very attractive and helpful. The staff are friendly and efficient, answering and otherwise returning calls promptly consistently when needed. Finally, the facilities are always clean and those I use new with easy access and long hours. Only downside at least in Kerney Mesa is that there are no lights in the storage lockers, which is different than I've experienced elsewhere but the hall lighting is bright enough that we did not need added lights while working. Specifically, I had a great experience with Chris recently in the Kerney Mesa who went above and beyond in helping me get the best rate and lock in for multiple units as needed for a move. Best storage unit experience yet! I moved out of my 1-bedroom apartment into my friends extra room in her house, so a significant downsize. Thankfully this place is right across the street from my work so I figured it would be easy to access anything I needed. I was right. I started off online and then realized it would just be better to visit the office. Tony was SO helpful. He showed me what size unit would be best for all my stuff, and answered all of the many questions I had. The access hours are great, and it's always clean. My boyfriend and I just moved into our own apartment and the transition out of the unit was seamless. As always Tony was super helpful. If I ever need another storage unit while living in San Diego, I'll always choose this location. read more

Beware of fees on top of fees. Have to have their lock-10, insurance required - 15, the quote that they were able to increase cause you didn't know there was lower quotes 8. Good hours and that is the extent Follow up to Corrinnas's reesppoonnssee, Yes transparent when it is one price when you call, the sales reps questioning who you spoke to and then waffling when asked for the lowest possible price. It is no longer law by California to insist you have insurance. It seems that about 1/2 storage facilities have the requirement even if it should be on the facility and if so to have lower rates based on your lower liability requirements and 1/2 do not require it. The last 3 I've rented from do not require it and have lower rates in addition. If your liability is lower then you should reflect it in your rates to stay competitive. read more

A-1 Self Storage - Self Storage Near Me - San Diego, California

Since my housing situation was unstable with the start of COVID, I decided to go with storing basically most of my life in storage. I chose A-1 even though their prices were higher because they seemed to have higher quality units. Their front desk workers were really helpful, Chris (I think it was) answered all my questions and helped reassure that there were no real problems with A-1. Since the storage location is near other businesses, the likelihood of a pest infestation dramatically decreases. There are also bait stations along the outside of the building which are checked regularly. Additionally, there are no huge areas of brush of trees decreasing the chances of any rodent problems. Chris noted that in the length of his employment (1 year at the time) there were no thefts in any of the units they had. There are security cameras at the gates and on the outside of the buildings, but none on the inside that are in view of the indoor units. There's a keypad-gate system where each tenant is given a unique access code. Chris also mentioned that tenants that whom unluckily get their units broken into are notified immediately since there's a alert mechanism built into each unit. A-1 offers rental insurance which I believe is roughly $12/month, if you already have your own, you can see if it applies to storage units. The one A-1 offers covers up to $2500 in theft, water damage, pest and rodent damage, and anything else, you just need to get document a little (take pictures with date/time stamps of when you close up). Chris told me that a majority of the claims was due to water damage, which was barely any since it doesn't rain much in San Diego. A-1 offers a free tubular lock if you check-in, better than your average padlock that can easily be cut off. Unfortunately these aren't the most secure as the experienced picker can break in. Often times the units are barely trafficked so it's be pretty easy to see who broke in based on the time stamps and video footage. A-1 sells some storage items that you might need: boxes, mattress bags, packing tape, etc. A-1 also has communal "cart-dollies" that help you store your items quicker. The staff was very accommodating and transparent about everything, I felt like all my questions were answered quickly and they reply to emails and calls timely. They also prorate rent if you plan on leaving early, but you need to tell them before you pay the month since they can't or won't refund money back. I ended up renting from beginning of July to mid September and had no issues, would rent again! Don't be afraid to ask them questions, they're really nice! read more

This storage facility was perfect for my needs. I needed a place where I could get a bunch of furniture delivered and stored while a building was under construction, but the kicker was that deliveries would be coming to the unit when I was not available to meet the driver to accept them. It's actually super hard to find a storage unit company that will accept deliveries for your business on your behalf. Enter A-1 Storage, and more importantly the amazing Kayla that works there. From my initial phone call through the entire rental process, multiple deliveries, and finally my move out once that my needs were complete, Kayla was a star the whole way! She communicated amazingly by email and phone whenever I needed to talk to her. She kept me abreast of what was going on with my deliveries and was super helpful when drivers wouldn't put things into the unit and helped me solve a few issues. If the owners read this review, I would really suggest that you give Kayla some recognition! A bonus, or raise - whatever you can! She really deserves it. She provided attentive and detailed customer service for my entire experience. It's actually really rare that I would recommend something like a storage unit, I think a lot of people feel like one is the same as the next... But that's just not true.
