I looked into big box storage as well as several other similar companies when we had to move. I found for what we needed, big box was the right solution for us. I spoke with several people as well as filled out the questionnaire as to how much storage/boxes we would need. I was told 3 boxes for a 3 bedroom home. Then speaking to someone else with the company I was told 4 boxes because we had patio furniture and a small shed. Big box worked with me to have 4 boxes delivered quickly at my driveway. Turns out each person who informed me of how many boxes I needed were incorrect. We had to have 2 more boxes delivered during the moving day which caused a lapse in time that the movers were working, which cost us several hundred dollars. Then we had to have another box delivered yet there was no one available to drop a box off so had to have the movers load their truck and unload it into a box at the storage facility. This cost even more money for the movers as well as now having to pay for 3 extra boxes. If I was informed correctly the first time of how many boxes we would need I may have gone with another company. Through this very aggravating experience Morgan helped me sort out the last details of getting the storage box at the warehouse. Thanks Morgan! Watch out for the $7/month security fee! The rep assured me the final cost after one month storage. I then booked a unit. A couple weeks later I got charged $7...wtf? After a couple of texts and emails, they agreed to refund the money. They said I should have read the contract that had this optional fee that I supposedly opted in. Well, the rep knew I wanted to make sure no other incurred costs other than the final cost of one month storage, so he should have mentioned to the fee to me. The process is simple and it was easy to get the box delivered for packing. I also had easy access to the box thereafter. Used 4 storage boxes during my home remodel to store furniture and other household items. Big Box did an outstanding job for me in delivering the boxes and picking them up. The drivers were punctual, professional and courteous at the time of delivery and pickup. The Boxes were clean, water tight during the rains and rodent proof. The staff at the office were always courteous and responsive to my needs. If your home needs fumigation, and if you're like me, dreading to package groceries in flimsy plastic bags, FEAR NOT. We have discovered BIG BOX STORAGE that you can rent by days, or as long as you need, and delivered to your door. We just tossed pantry items and groceries in the box, and voila, stress free. And, just in case you don't know, if you have grocery food that even though they are brand new, but packed in paper or plastic, not in cans or glass, they can be contaminated, therefore, must be placed in the bags provided by the fumigation company. And, having a BIG BOX, we did not have to do that, saving us at least $600 because the fumigation company will charge $30 a bag if they have to bag your items for you. I think I like them although to me the process was a bit.. complex... 1. You HAVE to talk to them on the phone like we live in the seventies. 2. The dimensions on the site seems to be the OUTSIDE dimensions. My box was 8 x 6.5 x 4.9 or so on the inside (Approximately, the 8 was more like 7 feet 14 inches). So.. a bit annoying, expected more. Who cares about outside dimensions when you're storing stuff... 3. Once you sign up, they hit you with a... delivery fee... Not cool. Be upfront about it guys, the bait-and-switch is out of fashion. At least there's no pick-up fee as far as the sales person told me. 4. I said I wanted it for a month, the sales contract said 1.5 month, so I had to call again to change it to avoid another month of fees. Pay attention folks. The box itself seems fine, looks waterproof, was delivered early, and all things considered the price is not horrible. Their sales agents were fine and got my issues fixed. So... if you pay attention to all this, it should be fine... but I shouldn't HAVE to pay attention, should I BigBox. P.S. Compared to a container, I'd call it TinyBox :) read more

Big Box storage was a smooth experience from beginning to end. The customer service is friendly, accommodating and flexible. The person who dropped off the box was so helpful in the placement of the boxes and when Dan came to pick them up to deliver to my new home, he was professional and did an amazing job with the box that I had put a ton of books in. If you have a lot of stuff and you want to take your time packing, this is the way to go! In retrospect, I needed 7 boxes instead of 5 so they are right that one room fills a pod. I love the size because it allows you to reorganize everything instead of in a large pod with other companies where it gets buried at the back and you can't manage things you put in as well as in a smaller pod. I would have loved to have given them a much higher rating however, after having their box for nearly a year, when they came to pick up the box, they not only destroyed my yard, but also broke a gas line. When I called about my yard I was simply told by Jeremy that Per the contract they are not responsible for damage to yards. I will NEVER use this service again. There are other similar companies out there. Spend your money on those. In regards to their response there were tire marks on the yard from previous year, however, that was not addressed in my complaint. It was the large "Gauges" in the dirt by the fence that I had a picture of and complaints. As for the other vehicle, I watched it leave and it did not contribute to the mess that Big Box Storage made with their vehicle. Stop making excuses Big Box and accept responsibility. During the past two months, we use Big Box Storage to move us from a house in La Jolla up to Carlsbad and store a lot of our items while our home was for sale. So we had multiple pick ups and deliveries at both sites and had a chance to meet the staff multiple times. Each exchange was extremely pleasant, and their care and precision handling of the boxes kept all of our items in perfect condition. Drivers like Eric and several others made the experience seamless and pleasant. I would not recommend them for a cross country move. They're great at storing your stuff, as long as you never need to communicate or access it. But once communication and coordination was needed, they fell VERY short. Here are a few things that I can point out that may be helpful to the next customer considering this business: -they charge credit card fees for cross country moves, which is expensive. You have the option to pay cash, but know that they have access to your credit card and will charge it. -They claim to send a tracking number, which I never received. This is to help you plan to get your stuff, but I was just surprised with an email stating it was there and it needed to be picked up. -Wherever you ship to, you must give them 24 hours notice before coming (which is not helpful when you only have 3 days to pick up and you have no idea what day it will arrive) -I was told after my storage arrived that the yard only allowed pick ups M-F 9-5pm, which caused me to take off work. I don't know if this is how all yards are, because that was never mentioned in the process of setting it up. But a very important piece of info for the customer because I would have picked a more accessible yard or planned ahead. -Read your contracts carefully because as others have mentioned, you will have additional charges from them on your credit card by the end. Even if you say no to services, they will put it in your contract and have an option for you to sign it. so please read anything they send you carefully. -The girl who answers the phones is rude and needs customer service training. The man who was in charge of emailing me important info, never emailed or called me back when I had questions about picking up my belongings. I will say Morgan was amazing. But that was after I had been wronged and she was helping me in the end. (Please promote Morgan) As I was looking for a reputable company, these are all things I wish I would have known and they would have been upfront about. The people at Big box were awesome I called at the last minute when plans fell through they were so kind and patient as I was frantic made room for me even though the schedule was full for a Saturday delivery on the 1st of the month of March. They squeeze me in and even made me the very first thought they were awesome and I thank God the quality of the service was 10 plus and the value really can't be beat it was almost closing time and they still took my order and delivered it as I said very first drop of the morning which allowed me to complete the move unassisted the driver was so awesome polite patient and very thorough in his instructions so as the rain would not affect the contents. They were truly a lifesaver and I recommend them in fact I have recommended them to at least seven different people you can't beat the price for what they charge for one month's storage is the delivery fee at other businesses similar to theirs. When I wasn't able to finish within a week I called again at the last minute and they graciously extended my time before pickup. The fact that they include a basic insurance is a big plus other companies require that you purchase insurance and there's this included which of course you can add additional if you desire. I'll be moving out of the storage in about 2 to 3 months and you can guarantee that I'll have them drop that big box on U-Hauls lot who refused to rent me a U-Box for a short move yet and still the same to you boxes were still sitting on that lot as I moved my belongings well some of them into my storage unit at U-Haul! I can honestly state that as long as they're around I'll be using big box from now on!!!!!! read more

I do not recommend Big Box Storage!!! They are over priced and not accommodating. When we first started with them, they explained to us how easy everything was, all you have to do is call and let them know you're coming. You go through your stuff, and if you decide you don't want something, the dumpster is right there to use so you don't have to take it back with you. Simple right? Wrong! When you go to see your storage, you find out the truth! To go into your storage area you have to make an appointment. You need to give them two hours notice. If you don't show up for your appointment or you're LATE they charge you, they also tell you that if you put anything in the dumpster it's a $150 charge. When you tell them that is not what you were told when you started using them they give you this speach about how they have a new owner and things have changed. Which I would have believed except the lady sitting at the counter kept smiling and giggling letting you know it was a line of bs that they tell everyone. I found them to be rude and over priced. We are moving our stuff to Extra Space Storage, prices are more reasonable and workers are pleasant to deal with. read more
