I've had a great experience with this storage facility--honestly worry-free from start to finish. The property is clean, well-lit, and feels very secure, which made me comfortable from day one. Parking areas are clean and easy to access, and amenities like dolly carts are readily available, which made moving items in way easier than expected. All of my questions were answered clearly and precisely, and the office staff was excellent. Jovahna in particular made the paperwork and move-in process simple and straightforward. WARNING BAIT AND SWITCH ! Back in February, I went to go rent a unit at this location of Moreno Storage for $34 a month for a 4 x 5' unit. I have no issues until recently. I received the letter that you can see attached that they were going to increase my cost per month for this unit to $101 a month. I completely understand that they may have the legal right to do this but then I think everyone should know about it as I'm trying to let people know that if you rent from them and even a short period of three months, they'll play the bait and Switch game. If that increased my rent by $30 a month I would've been upset but not enraged. In this world, you should be building trust amongst customers, but when you do things like this, how can they trust you or am I just collateral damage that doesn't matter to you? Every single one of their customers should know this, especially if you're getting a unit that you think is at a good price, but the real reason is they're gonna triple it and say that that's the market rate which by the way I checked and that's not the market rate for a 4 x 5Ft anywhere in San Diego. I've included another image which is a screenshot from A1 Storage another provider in the area and as you can see from the image there is a promotional rate. It's states that actually mine never stated that with Marina and their normal cost for a 7 x 5foot unit is $98. That's the market rate and they're saying the market rate is $101 for a 4 x 5 to me this is price gouging. I'm glad Yelp doesn't remove reviews like Google does because they removed my last review about them on Google, which is what they do to all bad reviews so they can try to keep a good standing shame on Google for that. read more

But over a short period of time, the rates have slowly increased to where they're completely unreasonable. When I spoke to the office staff, all they would tell me is that "other storage facilities are raising their prices...". So why not remain competitive by having fair prices? When your belongings are already in storage and you're in the middle of a relocation, you're effectively trapped. And if you've already moved away, you're left with zero leverage. It's exploitative, plain and simple. Amid all the nonsense that is Morena Storage, I will say I had pleasant encounters with Veronica (who was covering from an Orange County store) and Luis. They were professional and courteous, which only made the lack of support and accountability from management even more frustrating. This was hands-down one of the worst business experiences I've had. The Price Gouging is Only Half the Problem: The facility itself is severely lacking in basic security and maintenance. On two separate occasions during the past month, I encountered the highly disturbing situation of homeless people actively living inside storage units on the property. Most of the time there's only one operational elevator so it really slows things down. Also there's a lot of sketchy people in the surrounding area. There's no trash can to throw away anything. This is by far my favorite storage facility. It's close to U-Haul locations. Jovanna is very helpful. Carts are always out and easy to use even on busy days. For the nicer carts you have to leave some ID which is fair. If there are lower levels available it's very easy to change. Over all I like this place. One of the cheaper options with no issues. I began renting a unit here on April 1, 2025, at $84.00/month plus $15.00/month for insurance -- even though I made it very clear that my homeowners insurance already covers off-site storage. It took over two months, along with numerous phone calls and emails, just to get the unnecessary insurance charges reversed and refunded. I even offered to pay for a full year up front if they would lock in the rate. They refused. Then -- less than three months later, on July 3, 2025 -- they tripled my rent to $228.00/month without proper notice. Under California Senate Bill 1103, any rent increase exceeding 10% requires at least 90 days' notice. They gave me only 30 days. I believe this to be blatantly illegal, and I am filing a formal complaint. This appears to be a predatory business model: lure you in with a deceptively low rate, wait until you're locked in with your belongings inside, then hit you with a massive increase -- knowing full well that most people won't want to deal with the hassle and cost of moving everything out. To make matters worse: There is no after-hours access. If you need to access your belongings after 6:00 p.m., you're out of luck. The elevator system is incredibly frustrating -- you have a tiny 5-second window to punch in your code and choose your floor. If you miss it, you have to start the entire process over again. This is not just inconvenient -- it's intentional poor service paired with exploitative pricing practices. I'm another sucker that fell for the 50% off for 3 months intro. The regular rate was $208.50 per month when I signed up 5 months ago. The first 3 months was discounted 50% to 104.25 for 3 months then it goes to the regular rate of 208.50. That's all well and good but I just got a notice that my monthly rate is going to $358.00. To add insult to injury, there are constant issues with access. Broken gate access just today and many times an elevator is broken or closed due to a meeting BS. Rental rates keep going up at a ridiculous rate. The most recent for my storage unit was 18% increase after 6 months; with a whopping 30% increase over 1 year. Silly, right? I have happily kept my things at this facility for many years, but this is no longer a good storage facility. Additionally, the facility is dirty, and there are not enough carts, so we often have to wait quite a while for a cart to become available. Last week I rented a unit online, and thanks to Pete, within about an hour I had already moved my first car load of belongings into my new storage unit. Pete guided me through the move-in process seamlessly - answering my questions on the phone, personally helping me sort out my paperwork, and then walking me through the entire move-in and orientation process with a positive attitude and strong attention to detail. This place is the worst. I started renting a unit there years ago when it was under different ownership and it was fine. It's a huge, musty warehouse with narrow hallways, so it was always a little creepy to be in there alone. But the new corporate owners have raised the rent more times than I can remember. It has more than doubled and is set to go up again. This wouldn't be so bad if the price hikes hadn't been accompanied by a precipitous decline in service. Now the building it is filthy and scary. Stained carpets. It smells worse than ever. There are people living there and they park their bikes in the halls, eat there, invite their friends over and bring dogs inside. There have been break-ins. An item disappeared from my unit. Management doesn't bother to remove graffiti from the elevator. The last few times I've been there an alarm -- like the sound of a low smoke-detector battery -- has been going off. All of the inside doors are always propped open, which seems like a fire hazard. I've seen containers around the building collecting water from some kind of leak. I've tried complaining about some of the problems, but it hasn't made any discernible difference. And good luck getting them to accept documentation of your insurance. They just keep adding their own insurance back to your bill. They appear to have succeeded in chasing a lot of the old customers away, which is something considering what a hassle it is to relocate. And to think the previous owners used to offer you a warm cookie every time you signed in at the office! Now I can't get out of there soon enough. read more

I came here today to put some stuff away. I saw the garage doors open, but the office was closed. I saw a girl sitting in the parking lot and she said she had been sitting there for an hour because she needed to pick up a package. She finally left, then I went back to the office and saw someone walk by and sit down at the computer. I walked up to the door knocked. The guy didn't look at me. I knocked again and he looked over at me and then went back to looking at the computer screen. I yelled for him to hear me and asked if they were open. He said We're closed! I said well, your sign says your open daily. I needed a push cart to take my stuff upstairs, they were locked inside the office. Finally he came out and said we're closed today. I recognized the guy. He was the same guy blaming me and two other people for being locked in the elevator 2 years ago. I got locked in the elevator with two unsavory people. I tried calling the office, no one answered. All the while these two people were yelling and having a panic attack. I called 3 times before someone finally picked up in the state of Georgia. I told her my situation and she said she'd call the office. Finally the came and opened the door after 6 or 10 minutes. He scolded us for pushing too many buttons. I told him we only pushed the #1 to get to the ground level. He made me feel bad for something I didn't even do. How careless are they? The call button in the elevator didn't even work and I kept pressing the alarm over and over and over. No one came. It's beyond ridiculous this place has gone down hill. We have had nothing but hassle with this place., I received the wrong bill. It had a storage unit that I do not have. I emailed Sarah (property manager) and my emails continue to be ignored. I now have to send them a certified letter and escalate the matter. Also, getting autopay setup was a major issue. They did not set it up correctly even after I called twice and they confirmed it was setup and I was paid in full. I Another issue we had was getting the lease setup. They kept assigning the wrong storage unit type even after we called twice and told them in person. At the time of contract signing it was wrong and they had to void it and do a new one. All of these are unrelated issues. This company does not have effective standardized operating procedures and the staff morale seems really low so every time I follow up I get the different answer or it gets done incorrectly. read more

There are many office closures and they raised my rates TWICE in a year by 200%. I was told by Sarah...the manager that "all storage companies do this". So in other words...they are shady. Shady establishment! Total bait and switch on the pricing for the unit. I signed up for an intro offer with a specific rate after the intro offer to get a storage unit to fit the contents of my condo. Once the 3 month intro offer completed and it went to the normal monthly rate I signed up for, they sent me a letter saying that in 30 days I would have a rate increase. The rate increase is $150. I mean I get a $50 increase but $150 increase is complete gouging. My stuff has been there 3 months and they are already almost doubling the cost to store my stuff. So now I either have to pay the new rate or pay to move my stuff to a new unit somewhere else that is more in line with what I expected to pay per month. I felt it was shady from day one where they said they lost my original contract and made me sign a new one, then they set up auto pay, then harrassed me for payment that should have been deducted automatically. I have been a customer here at Morena Storage on Sherman Street for decades. New management leaves something to be desired. I arrived on 9/26 and was happy to see new security measures - instead of walking right to my unit, I got a code to use at the door to the inside storage areas. When I opened the door with that code, the stench of mildew and who-knows-what was horrible. Previously sparkling floors were dull and dirty. After getting my chores done at my storage unit (bad smells everywhere), I went to wash my hands in the rest room. No soap, no toilet paper, HORRIBLE smells all down the hall to the bathroom and inside the bathroom itself. The whole place is now setting a new VERY LOW bar for cleanliness. The smell was like rotting carcases of rats (which I know well from my days out in the country at feed stores). When I left, I stopped at the office to tell them the restrooms needed servicing, but the entire office was locked. I have never experienced this in all my years of coming here - they close the whole office during business hours? I'm so sad that this place was sold to US Storage Centers, because the new company obviously does not care much about their customer base. I hate the idea of moving out, but I will do this if the horrible smells continue next time I go to work in my storage unit. I did have a bit of a weird encounter the last time I came to put stuff in my unit. I was out front, there weren't many cars and plenty of parking available. So I was in my car waiting for my husband to get off work to help move things in the unit so I took my 8month old and had her playing up front with me car off and parked. An older white lady with blondish white hair about shoulder length looked to be in her 60s with black glasses in a grey Mercedes no tint was parked in front of us. She was taking her time to drive off as to not be suspicious I guess, but before she left she snapped some pictures of my daughter and I in the car. Which was very weird and made me feel very uncomfortable.I waved at her so she knew I saw her and she waved back and after a minute she put her phone away and drove off.
