If I could give them a half a star I would. DO NOT ever store your stuff here! I went to get some stuff out of my unit and someone had super glued my lock. I was told it happens all the time and if I wouldn't have had the Public Storage lock on then they would have broken my lock and taken all of my stuff. I was also told that Public Storage wouldn't help me that I needed to call a locksmith. They wouldn't take any responsibility for what had happened. I wish I would have read the Yelp reviews or they would have told me that it was an unsafe Public Storage. I have called the district manager but no one has gotten back to me. Just when I thought I had hit bottom with thousands of dollars of urine soaked items that we had to take to the dump, it got worse. Days after this experience, our unit was broken into. This place is a complete SHAM! I had a 5x10 storage space here for the last 10 months. I went this morning to move my stuff out of the unit and noticed that a different lock was on the door... I notified the manager on duty and he said"Oh no, we got broken into last week" Long story short, the SFPD said this particular building gets broken into at least once a month. A good majority of my family heirlooms were stolen as well as all my electronics. Please do yourself a favor and stay away. The buildings management knows the building is not secure yet, they do not notify the tenants. read more

Police even said they're tired of coming in and nobody doing anything about it . ok, so it's not so much this location as the whole company...while they have online specials which seem like a good deal it's not what it seems. I have gone to several of their locations looking for a 5x5 space. When I get there I'm shown a space that is more like 4x4 1/2, seriously, I taped it...When I say that's not right the clerk just looks at you sheepishly and says it's an "approx." size. Not to mention that some of the spaces are pretty ramshackle in their construction with holes or columns in them. I think the Uhaul sites are a little better made but with all of these they are woefully staffed with basically teenagers texting while you try to get some answers to spaces and prices. read more

Great experience renting a storage unit yesterday. Got into town after three weeks at that thing in the desert and needed a temporary place to stash the gear that's too dusty to bring home just yet. Johnny was super helpful in getting me into a ground floor very accessible unit in just a few minutes. I was able to unload everything that needed to go into the unit in just over an hour - record time! Went back today to put the rest of the stuff into the storage unit. Facility is neat and clean, and the staff are the friendliest I've encountered at multiple Public Storage facilities. My only complaint is not receiving promotional pricing because I'm an existing customer. Wouldn't you think additional units would warrant some kind of break on pricing as well? Still five stars because everything worked perfectly and was so easy. Keep up the good work! read more

My unit does not present value for money and was broken into after only 3 months. Not a good company for one. Secondly, and for me, most infuriatingly is the manager, Bob. He has treated me rudely, contemptuously and disrespectfully since day one. When I moved in he spoke down to me, treating me as if I was an incompetent inconvenience rather than a valued customer. I didn't think this would matter given I'd never have to speak to him again.... well guess what? When my unit was broken in to whilst I was out of town (that's a huge minus tick for one) and an emergency lock placed on it. When I left a message (from out of town) asking for details I waited for over TWO MONTHS to get a return phone call back. I didn't get a call back. Then, once back in SF I called again and was given mis-information by the temporary manager about what had happened (which I found out when I went to the unit). The long-and-short of all this was that I left public storage's lock on my unit..... two days later: Bob calls me and tells me (very rudely) that he charging me for a lock and putting it on my unit... I try to explain why I don't want this and how I was given misinformation by the temporary manager.... guess what? Bob said he didn't believe me. i.e. I was making it all up. I am moving my stuff out. For senior management (if you're reading this). I am moving it out nearly entirely because of how I've been treated by Bob. Avoid this place like the plague.... read more

DO NOT RENT HERE. AVOID IT AT ALL COST. I had the worst experience ever by renting with this guys. I should've read yelp before. All my stuff got screwed up by water damage. To make the story short, I had most of my stuff I storage here damaged and lost over $6000 dollars. My coach was completely soaked in water and my drawers look like a pool. The roof, it's completely putrified and water comes in as close as having your stuff right outside. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. I'm even suing this guys in a small claims court for negligence on not maintaining their storage place in proper conditions. What is even worst is their customer service, I even remember the guys telling me this is the first time it ever happen to them, and it just takes few seconds to realized through this yelp that happens to them probably every day. read more

I was scared to death! I had no idea that another world exists behind the fence of a Public Storage. My heart was racing as I turned the corner and saw unsavory characters who appeared to be loitering. I think there was some drug use or other "stuff" going on in there. I agree wholeheartedly with the yelper who characterized PS as grossly misleading with their advertising. Their website makes the company seem like a model for cleanliness. Honestly, this review is from just one bad experience with this particular PS, but I now have a sense of caution and fear going forward that I didn't previously expect. Now I'm stuck with all my crap in my car until I can find a decent place to stash it :( One nice thing I will say is that the PS employee was a very nice man (not Bob, but I can't recall his name). My nightmare began the day that I decided to rent a space from public storage. My lock was broken by the district manager who claimed that "my door needed to be repaired due to a possible break-in" and thereafter never notified me to pick up my new key. I was not informed until i came to make a payment 3weeks later and my key was presented to me by their employee. They assured me my storage had not been broken into but half of my property was stolen....I HAD BEEN ROBBED BLIND.... and NO ONE, including the district manager could figure out how that was possible. I called the manager Ana to show her my things was stolen, she shrugged her shoulder and told "but you dont have insurance." As if I wouldn't have gotten robbed if I had insurance...or maybe she meant she wouldn't have robbed me. The police said there was no brake-in that it was clear a key was used to enter my storage but public storage and their Corporation refuses to take responsibility for their actions. It was clear to me that it was an inside job and although they cant admit so they offered me a refund of two months rental fee's. PLEASE DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY, THEY WILL ROB YOU AND OFFER YOU POOR INSENSITIVE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! read more

I want to die right now. I rented a storage space from them earlier and first the girl who works there couldn't find the space she rented me and I was pressed for time because I had to move out of my dorm and she wrote on the paper something about 9pm so I thought someone would be there until then but no one was there. Second she never called me about the storage space before they closed so now I'm literally in a U-haul at Mark Zuckerburg's hospital parking garage with my Mom and all of my belongings and I missed my bus going to Southern California so now I have to wait until they open tomorrow. They have nobody you can contact after hours so I'm literally stuck and I've already checked out of my dorm and all of my friends are home for the summer already. I cant go anywhere because I have a u-haul pick up truck with the bed exposed so the only option is to sleep in it to make sure nobody steals my stuff. Words can not describe the emotion I feel. I'm going to look into taking legal actions against this location. read more

She made my move in a pleasant experience and seems to have an enormous amount of patience for less than courteous customers. After reading the horrible reviews here, I am quite perplexed about these entries, but still quite satisfied with my experience. I've been renting my storage unit starting Sept 2016 and it has worked marvelously for me. I have to visit my unit almost on a daily basis, since my SF housing has very restrictive storage. This storage space on Marin St has accessible hours and I visit at various times throughout the day and night. It is not the most pristine part of town, has a vagrant community across the street, and the 24 hr carwash is not the best maintained, but it is simply an industrial zone with very honest and hard working people bustling about. If you are looking for a Hayes Valley corridor--this is not for you. Since I knew I was going to need regular access to my unit, I certainly shopped around various other storage facilities before making my choice. Extra Space on Egbert Ave was a great option, but their units are outdoors with ventilation open to the outdoors. Another Public Storage had indoor units but with exposed ceilings within a warehouse space. My current unit is a small, fully enclosed 5 x 10 with an actual door, not a roll-up. Ana gave me a tour and showed me a number of units. When I returned, I met with another attendant, who was just as helpful and explained their recommendations on using their locks and digital key entry in detail with me. She signed me up on autopay for rent and the required insurance policy. I read a review here stating that insurance is optional. I don't know if things have changed, but I was told it is required, which I didn't mind paying an additional 10 or 11 bucks (can't remember exactly how much now). Someone else also noted the rise in rent, which I have not experienced in the past 3 months, but my agreement is month to month, so I will keep my review posted of any updates. It is unfortunate that people have experienced break-ins at this site, but I have not seen or experienced a problem with my unit nor any neglect on securing the location. On occasion, the main drive-way gate has been left open, but aside from this security measure, the elevator to access my unit has consistently been secured. I can't express enough the convenience of my unit, since renting in SF leaves little room to store hiking and camping gear, and even seasonal clothing or occasional costumes. Also, a lady can't have too many shoes! I don't leave valuables in my unit, but that's because I don't really have them in the first place. This space works perfectly for me! read more

Pay attention to the reviews that talk about theft. My unit and several others were broken into and thousands of dollars of belongings stolen. Public Storage did nothing. After the theft, the door to my unit was broken and they said it would be several days before they could fix it. They expected me to just leave the rest of my stuff in a unit with a broken door. I had to force them to at least transfer me to a unit with a working door. On top of that, the outside gate is broken and there are roaches everywhere. The people in the front office may be nice, but the corporation does no maintenance on its properties -- yet they continually raise rents. I strongly advise you to rent elsewhere. read more

This place is a total joke. We moved some furniture out of our small victorian flat to make room for some other things...long story short we wanted a storage unit close to our place, so we picked the closest. Note: My bad for not checking yelp first. Big time. We arrived 5 minutes before our schedule time, no one else waiting...all was looking good to get in and out and get our Uhaul returned on time. Now starts the debacle. First, we took a look at the unit that was assigned to us, but the locking mechanism looked a bit suspect so the guy took us to another unit. We looked at that unit, then said fine, let's move our stuff in. Fast forward 30 minutes of hemming and hawing, he accidentally processed our move in to the damaged unit...I'm not sure why they couldn't just switch out unit in the system, evidently this took a lot of work. So we started moving our stuff in to the new unit, returned down stairs only to learn that the unit we just moved all of our stuff in to was 'reserved' for someone else. Wife and I were both getting a little pissy as we were starving and now about 1 hour in to the whole process. We were starting to take the attitude of 'not our problem', our stuff's in...we're out of here. Not so fast. At the front desk again, Bob (the manager) advised us that if we didn't move our stuff in to a NEW unit from the one we just moved all of our crap in to, they'd have to cut the lock, blah, blah, blah, I don't know...we quit listening. At this point, we just gave up, went back upstairs, and moved our stuff to the other unit. Finally, we were on our way about 2 hours later, something that should have taken 30 minutes max. So just to rub lemon and salt in to the still open wound...today I get a collections notice from them for $0.86 that wasn't paid when we 'moved out' of our old unit. What the?!?!?! I called the call center and they just wiped the charge off. Oh, and did I mention that when we were moving our cart of stuff down the hallway we bumped one of the doors and this urine-like (looking and smelling) came dripping out of one of the units? I don't know what it was, but I wasn't going near it. Bottom line, avoid this place unless you like hanging out for a few hours and like moving around a lot, and smelling random pee-like smells and sights. We'll be moving our stuff out when our month is up and we garner a little more patience. read more

The place is clean and reasonable. The owners are super-helpful and our two units (25' and 10') were very clean. I called about 3 different places around San Francisco and these guys had, by far, the best deal for a large unit that was inside. We rented for about 5 months. I see some bad Yelp reviews from back in 2010. I think the place has changed hands since then because my experience was excellent. There are a few storage places around San Francisco but I would definitely rent from Public Storage on 2587 Marin Street (and you can wash your car across the street while listening to blues music) read more

Terribly run business. STAY AWAY! NO STARS! This place is terrible. We are finally out. Always trash all over. The back door is always broken and wide open. For the year+ we were there the back door was never working and always open. Talked to one guy who said that door hasn't worked for 3 years. Basically all someone has to do is wait for the gate to open and can walk in and have their run of the place. I hated giving these guys my money for "secure storage" for as long as I did. The gate worked sometimes but usually the chain was broken and didn't work for days. read more

i've always been cool with the folks at this storage unit until recently. i've had to place me belongings in storage before, taking advantage of the 1$ first month plus admin fees. I guess before, this fell on the beginning of the month, this time I moved in on the 26th. Now keep in mind that the move in special is supposed to be for the first month, i.e. 30 day period. This last time they wanted a payment at the beginning of the following month, 6 days into my storage. I received one email that seemed to suggest that they were going to pro-rate me for the end of month 2 so that my payment would fall on the 1st. Come to find out they wanted a payment sooner and subsequently charged me a late fee. The manager apparently had his hands tied and gave me the number of the regional manager who never returned my call. Needless to say I payed the fee. Now I don't know what part of the first month they were talking about, 6 days is far from a month, not that 20$ killed me but yet another case example of exploitive & parasitic practices that big corps resort to. that's capitalism for you, how can you fuck someone over in order to squeeze a little bit more out of your customers, i.e. your host. I don't think I'll be storing my stuff here again. read more

This place is terrible! My storage unit, as well as many others in the same hall, was recently broken into. I was never notified but was told they left a voice message. The thieves stole a 52inch flat screen TV and ransacked the unit. When they were finished stealing they put a new lock on the door. Public storage was less than helpful. In fact they gave us a hard time and simply told us to file a police report. They charge $40 to remove the lock that wasn't mine and another $20 for a new lock to replace the one the thrives broke. You would think they would have been helpful or even sympathetic but they were not. I will be moving my belonging to a safer storage facility ASAP! read more

I've been a client at Public Storage on Marin Street in the Bayview area since downsizing from an apartment on Nob Hill to one in the Excelsior District in March of 2008. Over especially this past year I've noticed many improvements in the property, cleanliness, security, and top notch friendly service from Ana and Claudia. I inquired as to if the management had recently changed and my impression was confirmed that a change in management had indeed taken place. The facility has improved tremendously and I would not hesitate to recommend it to any one needing a safe place to store their life possessions. read more

All of my belongings were stolen from my storage locker. I had placed everything I owned in the world in a storage locker here while I was living overseas for a year. I returned from my assignment, placed the few belongings I had taken overseas with me in the locker a little over 3 weeks ago and took a suitcase of clothes on vacation. When I returned 2 weeks later ther was a new lock on the unit. I alerted Bob the manager. he told me I had to go to this place and rent bolt cutters myself. I had to call a cab to go to & from the rental place. When I opened the unit almost everything was gone. The thieves left me my mattress and two chairs. Seriously who steals cassette tapes from the 90's. I called the police. who took a report. Bob was incredibly unhelpful throughout the whole ordeal. He stated there had been 8 break-ins this month alone. He refused me access to the video surveillance, stating the police would need to do it with a warrant. I have contacted the district manager and received no response. I do not & will not be recommending this location or company to anyone I know. read more
