Unlike some of the other reviewers, I had a really great experience here. There are a few things to keep in mind when reserving online: - reservation size and price is only good for 6 days from the date you reserve to your move-in date. So if you're you're planning on moving in any later than that, the size and price may not be what you've selected. - there is a $22 administration fee, a $7 charge for a lock (which you keep), and a required monthly insurance fee (as low as $9) - if the office is locked, it means the customer service person is showing or cleaning a unit and will be back. - for least busy move-in times, try going on a week day instead of a weekend. I found the customer service to be quite excellent. I liked that parking was easy and close, unlike some storage units in SOMA and closer to downtown. It also appears that most of the units are on the first floor (avoiding annoying up and down elevator rides). read more

YOUR THINGS ARE NOT SAFE HERE!!! If I could give a zero rating, I would. I've paid good money to use this facility for years and recently almost everything in our unit was stolen. The manager's response to our situation- "You shouldn't have kept anything valuable in there". No apology, just zero accountability and a lengthy speech on Public Storage being a corporation. He said that there was nothing that he could do unless someone had used our code to enter the facility, which no one had. Upon further inspection (and talking to other occupants) I found MULTIPLE ways to get in and out of the facility without any keys or codes. There were broken locks, broken emergency exits/doors/keypads and access to the parking lot that has holes in the fence that have been covered by a barbecue grill. Real secure. Even though there was access to the parking lot, I'm fairly certain that this was an inside job. We had missed a payment, so P.S. replaced our heavy duty lock with one of their own chincy ones. When we arrived to get our things, they had to cut the replaced lock off. The lock had no evidence of tampering. This tells me that A) whoever replaced the lock saw what we had inside and came back to get it B)whoever has access to keys went through it Whoever it was, they took their sweet time going through our boxes and took only the most valuable items. The manager denied EVERYTHING even after physically showing him the broken doors and access to outside. Do NOT support this crooked company or their lying manager!!!! read more

-Warning- is the label that should be displayed in this facility. I was the victim of a theft crime while on this facility. The crime was recorded on the security surveillance camera system. I felt the management team did not elevated the incident to the magnitude of the event or the scale of the loss (around $7,000.00) thanks God Insurance will cover part of the losses. HORRIBLE customer service!!! i never actually got a storage unit here because the representatives are horribly rude and inconsiderate at this location. I reserved a unit online and was called to confirm my reservation, told i have 5 days from the res date to confirm in person onsite or i lose the rental . The day i went to the location , i arrived with my 6 month old baby in tow, to find a locked front door, NO ONe in the office and no one answering the phone. I waited 30 minutes in the cold and wind outside and finally decided to leave. An hour later i received a return call to my message i left while waiting outside the unattended location and the conversation went as follows: him: "are you coming in to confirm your storage unit? the offer ends today" me: I was there about an hour ago waiting outside for 30 mins calling the office over and over but finally had to leave. I have a small child and I couldn't wait any longer." him: " well, I'm here now" me: " well, i can try to make it there in the next 2 hours before you close, will someone be there for sure when I arrive." him: i can't guarantee it. me: well, i'm not going to come all the way over there again on the off chance someone MIGHT be there to help me" him: ( in a snarky tone) ma'am, i cannot guarantee in the next 1 hour and 55 minutes that i will absolutely be in the office - i have a lot to do around here. " me: can you perhaps give me a 15 minute window where you can tell me you'll be there?" him: as I said, I cannot guarantee i'll be here when you get here. So I told him i'd find another place to rent from that actually has some customer service and would appreciate my business. I wonder if hiss boss knows he just lost him $150/ month. My unit was broken into and I had items stolen. Several other units had been broken into at the same time, including one tenant whose unit had been broken into multiple times before. Even though they will claim they have security doors that require a passcode to enter, the doors have been broken for years and can easily be pushed open. One even stands open at all times, day and night. When my unit was broken into, the flimsy grate on the roof of my unit was clipped. The management promised me it would be fixed in a couple of days. Months later it still had not been fixed. The security door was still broken. I came in recently and found several units had been broken into (again.) I called the district manager and never heard back. I had my lawyer write a letter and they never responded. You should not store anything you care about here. This place is horribly insecure and the management shows no signs of concern or any effort to implement even the security claims they make. They have break-ins regularly and make no effort to secure the property. I have since moved to a more secure storage location (not public storage) and I can't believe how much better the service is and how much better the physical security is. read more

The people who work on site here are great. It's easy to get in and out. However, when I moved in I was charged 3 times and it took them 3 weeks to fix the charges. I moved out a year later, and I was told my rent would prorated and refunded since I payed the entire month of June but moved out on the 3rd. It's Sept and I still have no received a refund. The district manager is unresponsive, I call several times a week and nothing happens. Terrible customer service, but like I said the gentlemen working there every day are great. read more

This location was very handy for me. I liked the covered loading area so I could load/unload out of the elements. P.S. counter-worker Bayo was helpful. I started out using a smallish 7.5'x10' locker for odd items from my garage, and then upgraded last August to a 10'x15' which was JUST large enough to store everything from my 1-bedroom apartment. I recently moved in to my new place and finished renting this locker - and was generally pleased with the service. If I wasn't used to living in expensive SF, I'd think the locker rental price was absurdly high. read more

I originally thought this was a good establishment. After entering a contract with them, a few months later, my storage was no longer in my name. Basically it was no longer my property, It was now under my friends name, and now my property is some how her property.I went in and signed the contract to rent this unit signed all the paperwork. It's my email address. My credit card # is the card # paying the $180.00 a month rent. But I can't even go to my unit to grab my personal belongings because somehow my unit became someone else's unit, and she has no signature anywhere on any paperwork. But the storage unit is hers. How can that be.? I'm really not understanding this whole fiasco. But someone will be responsible in the end ,when the truth comes to the surface. Very unprofessional employee's, not helpful what so ever. Wouldn't recommend this location to anyone. What a nightmare. To be continued......... read more

I just moved out of this Public Storage location and I have to say it was the best location that I have used. It has easy loading and has enough parking spaces whenever I visit it. The attendant Conrado was always pleasant unlike other Public Storage places I have rented in the past. I also had a climate controlled unit that was always cool in the summer especially when I have to work up a sweat getting stuff out of my unit. Also my stuff was stored in a safe temperature. Do not trust this company! I recently reserved a unit online at this facility. When I arrived, they showed me to, what I assumed to be, my unit and told me I could move my stuff in then come back to finish the paper work. After my movers moved everything in, I returned to sign the contract to find out the unit was $50 more/month than my reservation stated. They said it was because the unit I moved into was climate controlled, but they didn't tell me that beforehand! Now they want me to pay the higher amount or move to another unit which would require me to hire movers again at my own expense. They also say the promotional price I got online is no longer in effect and so I'll have to pay more than my initial reservation quote regardless. I'm so pissed! I feel like the least they can do is to help me move my things into another unit that matches the price I locked in online. I've shown them my online reservation with confirmation code but it doesn't matter to them. Both the on-site manager Bayo and the district Manager Jay Hanley have been very unprofessional and this feels like a big scam! read more

The people in the office are nice, but the Public Storage management doesn't support them. There are broken doors, broken lights, rodents, a leaking roof...none of it was addressed by the corporate management. The local manager has no authority to fix anything. All maintenance must be approved by the district manager, who regularly promised improvements, but none ever materialized. But they raised my rates a huge amount every 6 months like clockwork. I originally had a space at the Public Storage facility in downtown many years ago. When they built the facility on Evans Street they moved me into the then beautiful new space. Over the years I used Public Storage more than once. In 2011 I moved my studio and my art into two spaces in the Evans Street location. In 2013 I rented an additional space just for my art. Last year the quality of upkeep and maintenance went down the tubes. Not only is the place ratty and dirty, but I was robbed THREE times! One of my three units was broken into twice. There are no cameras monitoring either of the spaces that were broken into and the security doors on the outside of the building are not maintained adequately. I lost fifteen pieces of sculpture. Even though it is an onerous task to do so, I am currently looking for an alternative storage facility as I no longer trust the management of the Evans Street facility. Not only all of this nonsense, but the rates for my units just keeps increasing while the facility and service deteriorates. Buyer beware here! read more

They'll continually raise your rates every 6 months, add fees, tack on arbitrary late fees, and do anything else they can to get more money out of you after your stuff is moved in. Also, the customer service is non responsive. So find another place if you can. I'm reading fairly awful reviews of public storage in general on yelp, so perhaps find a company that is not so close to going under. read more

tl;dr: bait-and-switch. sigh. how I wish I could write a 5 star Yelp review for a change! alas, it seems I constantly have to deal with dishonest and incompetent companies that do not know how to run a business, and take to yelp to vent my frustration. GF had a reservation for a 6x10 unit for $99 a month, first month free. we get there and are told that the unit is going to be 5x10 and $130, first month full price. like every other reviewer here already said, their marketing is pure bait-and-switch and the fact that you have a confirmation for a certain size and rate doesn't mean anything at all. they might or might not honor the reserved and confirmed rate. I give 'em 2 stars simply because they did honor my reservation a few months back. the manager tried to be helpful, and told us we could get a unit at their location a few blocks down the street cheaper (but still more expensive than the reserved rate). he even called for us and let the manager of the other location know we were on our way. we got to the other location just in time to see the manager leave and lock up (during office hours, of course). we told her that we were there to rent a unit. well, apparently that interfered with her lunch break, but we could come back an hour later! well, Public Storage, if you don't want our business I can go next door to Extra Space Storage, which gets great reviews. read more
