Don't rent at Public Storage. I signed up for a unit in August. Restrooms are located by the elevator and look like they should be accessible to renters, but they're always locked. I never would've moved in if I'd known they don't actually allow customers to use them. I was later told they keep all bathrooms locked because people dump trash in them. There is not a restaurant, or store nearby to use the restroom so don't plan on staying all day at this facility. I've never seen a property manager or any cleaning crew making rounds, picking up trash, or monitoring anything. One of the employees even said they don't have time to check the cameras to see who's dumping trash which is pretty alarming considering they're supposed to be protecting our belongings. The facility is consistently dirty. The office staff rarely leaves the desk, and there's no visible upkeep at all. I reached out to customer service through social media, phone, and email and no response from anyone. It's clear they don't care. This is by far the worst facility I've ever rented from. Don't go here. On another note - the "climate controlled temperature " is questionable at this facility. It was extremely hot during the summer and it's been cold this November. read more

They are deceptive about their prices. Online prices are not locked in but that is not disclosed in the add or by staff (the contract does say it). My price increased 30% from one month to the next. They can increase the price to seemingly anything with 30 days notice. When I called to ask about the increase, the staff wasn't particularly knowledgeable or helpful. Obviously, they don't make the policies, but all I was really offered was that I could drive to the location to get a copy of the contract. read more

What makes a company great? The people who work for it. I have rented a small unit here, at the Westwood, Massachusetts faculty, since June 2015. Recently, I went there to move some stuff in and out. I made a big error: I locked my unit in the "open" position. The folks there check these things regularly, and sent me an urgent message by email. Asking me to contact them. Tyler, the man on site at the facility, could not nave been kinder or more sympathetic. Long story short, my stuff is in storage in the Bay State, and I live in Brooklyn, NY. Probe? Solution: I went to a local Public Storage, where the very kind snd patient Shaquira helped me. It turned out to be more complicated than we all thought, because the fax of my license did. It go through. Shaquira came up with another solution: she sent a PDF of the licensor to Tyler. My treasures are stored on his small space and these two employees totally understand. I had a confirmed! (Booked on line on a Saturday)reservation with a confirmation email. I went with car full ready to unload. When I got there (the next Saturday) the attendant said they count 7 days to lock in the rate from the day you make the reservation, she said I was a day late, you should read the fine print. What fine print? I have a confirmation email with todays date! And I had a conversation with you that I work Friday and you said Saturday was fine. .. and now I have to pay a higher fee? The woman, in our initial conversation on the phone when reserving never! ever told me about this sleazy tactic! My email shows the date I showed up and the nice online confirmed price for the day I showed up! Sounds confusing? Sleeze sales tactics. They figure get her here with all her stuff extra $10.00 a month for us, sucker! Well! They are being reported. Find another place! read more

Caitlyn is a terrific property manager! She has "bent over backwards" trying to be as helpful as possible to me. I have rented a second unit in order to sort things in my original unit. I have been a long-time (over 20 years) Public Storage customer both in Medford and in Westwood, MA. I was fit and able-bodied when I first moved household belongings into Public Storage. Through no fault of PS, I am now a disabled senior on a fixed income. Caitlyn has done all she can to save me some monies and to accommodate my concerns, while showing her caring for my disabilities. She is a wonderful asset to Public Storage, and does everything in her power to make PS's customers feel truly valued. Caitlyn's exceptional service has done wonders to increase my evaluation of this company. Unfortunately, the bathrooms are still an issue at this facility. Corporate management seems to think of the bathrooms as a special, but unnecessary, gift they sometimes, but rarely, provide to their customers versus an important aspect of what renters expect to receive. When I go there, I often will be there for an entire day or many hours. There are no nearby businesses or public facilities that can be used. This is not a local management problem or issue. It's a corporate level issue. If someone from Corporate Headquarters would spend a day in this facility, where they couldn't use the "employee's restroom," and where they had to use only those facilities available to their customers, the problem would most likely be quickly rectified. I hate Public Storage..it was over Xmas that I missed a pymt, always paid them. Got a phone call saying my unit was going to auction but if I paid $20.00 it would stop it, which I did, however, the pymt went in as $2.00. I noticed this error right away and immediately changed it. I got no phone call so went on to send them another 300.00 for my regular pymt. Come to find out they auctioned all my stuff. I was furious, my beautiful wedding dress, my kids baptism clothes, communion and so much more that had such meaning to me. Wouldn't reach out to anyone for me, I just wanted the clothes. I'm still seriously thinking of sueing them, this has left me heartbroken. Major credit cards allow you 10 days after due date, not public Storage, 4 days. I have been a customer of Public Storage for over 25 years both in Medford, MA and in Westwood. MA. The key plus factor is their people. I miss Caitlyn in Westwood. She was extremely helpful and nice. There are two serious minus factors at PS. 1) Having clean and accessible restrooms is very important. Often the restrooms are locked and/or unclean. 2) Corporate management is just plain greedy and unrealistic. Their most recent rent increase for August of 2018 was 21.5% over their previous prices. This is usury (An excessive or illegally high rate of interest charged.) When they raise rents, they invariably over-charge. Few folks get anywhere near that kind of increase in the earnings in one year! read more

I have been a customer of public storage for almost 5 years. The units and the facility are clean and safe. Flatbeds are provided for moving your things in and out of storage. We have changed units several times over this time period and the front staff has always accommodated our needs. I have to give a big shout out to Caitlyn who has helped us on many occasions in making our need for space work so well. She is right there when you need assistance with storage space and items to make your move in and out awesome. Melissa was awesome yesterday. I rate her a 5-star while rating the facility a 3-star. She was great and helped me with a new unit location at a lower price than my current unit but bigger. Yeah Melissa!!! I have been a long time renter at this facility and have seen my rate go up considerably during this time. I discovered from looking on-line I was paying more than $100 over what it would cost to rent the unit for new customers. Really you take customers who have been loyal and charge them almost 100% more than what it costs to rent the same unit? If you have to rent from them I recommend having it be a short term rental as they will keep raising your rate otherwise. read more

We stored some household items here for a couple of months while we listed our house for sale. Customer service was great in helping us figure out the best size unit for our needs and we had no trouble getting into or out of the unit several times a week when we needed things we had stored there. The unit and facility were clean, dollies were always available and the location was easy to access. read more

Cleaned out my storage unit there today. Staff was wonderful. However, the facility has only one rolling cart for customers to use to move their belongings. When I spoke to the staff about it, they said it was out of their control. I would not recommend anyone going there right now, how much can one of those carts cost!! read more

After receiving a price on the phone for a unit, the local manager, who was helpful, said it could not be honored. He suggested that I contact Kristi the District Manager for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Multiple phone calls to Kristi and to the Regional Manager, Jon were not returned. Their ignorance as well as their abysmal customer service lost a customer with many connections in the local community. I just rented out a med size unit from the Westwood PS and my experience could not have gone any better. The associate Who worked with me named Nick was professional and extremely helpful! He was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He also offered some helpful tips.
