Great place to meet up with friends. I would go for the appetizers. Brussel sprouts were good. The General Tso cauliflower was sweet but delicious. Tuna tartare was mildly spicy and perfectly balanced with tortillas. Nachos grande... we added steak.. was impossibly too grande. The steak was a bit too salty (don't add it!). Loved the wings...can't go wrong with that. Publicans burger had too much going on. My kid had the fish and chips was... too bland. Mac and cheese was also ordered bc my kid loves Mac. We were visiting from out of town and wanted to try a local spot. This place did not disappoint!! We went for brunch, but the bar looked amazing and definitely something I'd want to come back to try. Publicans was a burger and tavern that's been in the neighborhood for as long as I can remember; Safe and predictable. It closed and new ownership, so we figured we needed to give a try. Our waitress, Lauren was an absolute delight. We started with some amazing appetizers, General Tso's Caulflower, A large pretzel with horseradish sauce. and guac. All done perfectly, delicious. Then a long wait for the food occurred. The owners and staff did everything they could to make up for it. First offered free drinks, (we were fine and told them no need). Then another round of apps on the house. Finally the food came and everything was delicious, I had the porkchop which was done perfectly. My friend had the roast chicken and told me it was excellent. Another guest had the impossible burger (keep meaning to try that), and was happy with his selection. This could have been a 5 if the kitchen got it's act together and served on time. I will definitely give them another try in a few weeks to see if things have been ironed out. read more

You've got to love all these shill reviews, especially when they say things like "Chef Ben is making it happen in the Kitchen" This place is no better than shortly before it closed. They can't even get a simple medium rare hamburger right. (Medium well is NOT medium rare) Wine was OK, though a bit overpriced. I heard from the bartender say that the owners also own Brixx & Barley in Long Beach, the place that was closed by the Health Department this summer because of a Salmonella outbreak. The seasoning was not good. Should simplify the menu and focus on having a quality burger. The original Publicans was known for simple food and best burgers in town. Lets start with the hostess, she took 5 minutes to sit us down when we had a reservation- no greeting (faint smile too...) off the bat not too welcoming. Our waiter had a little attitude but i was willing to walk past it, also the water jug was dirty and so nasty i literally couldn't but like it was fine but no. the appetizers on the other hand were amazing! props to the chef. for my entree I had parmesan crusted salmon with mac and cheese side replacement- salmon was salty and dry but it was alright, mac and cheese was ok. The dessert was a disaster. it took at LEAST 25-30 mins to get dessert out. we had ordered cinnamon and donut holes and the donut holes were for a birthday. it was so bad the second hand embarrassment i got from the waiter was so bad. he even knocked over the glass while putting the happy birthday plate down. Today was USA vs Iran soccer game. My friends and I were looking around the area for a place that was open showing the game. Took us about 10 min drive, when we got there we were surprised to see so many parking spots in the back. We sat at the bar and our bartender was Ari. Ari was a great bartender. She had a crowd here watching the game. I asked her what her favorite food was and she recommended the general TSO cauliflower, she said every table loves it. She was right, it was delicious. She was attentive and definitely helped us decide what to drink based off our preferences. Overall, it was a great experience. read more

The food was passable, but nothing like when it was Edison's. The worse part about this restaurant was our server. When she came to take our order we didn't see her for over 45 mins. Great place for dinner and/or drinks! I love the modern and laid back atmosphere. Our served, Mackenzie, was very sweet and attentive. I loved my drink, the Red Oak. Awesome staff and food is off the hook. I thought the Best Philly cheesesteak outside of Philly until I recently went to Philly and had one and was craving the publicans instead. They nailed it, you can tell Chef Ben hand curated everything down the perfect bread. Awesome beer menu and the rest of the menu is super solid. I love consistency being a chef myself and this place has never disappointed. After driving hours to visit friends my family and I arrived at Publicans famished. Inviting atmosphere as soon as you step in!! We were seated immediately quickly were able to order some appetizers while perusing the vast menu. Appetizers were delicious Buffalo wings were perfectly spicy but not too hot for the kids, General Tso's cauliflower was excellent. Entrees were delicious I had the spicy shrimp tacos so fresh and spicy aioli was ever so tasty. My son had the All American burger and it was perfect! We had a blast today for a little Sunday fun. Today was their grand opening since new ownership and the change was apparent. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious with a lot of great options for all members of the family (vegan/GF/meat lovers/ children/ allergies etc.) The waitress Maria was kind and attentive, the place was packed and we got our food quick and didn't feel as we were being rushed out as we were enjoying some football.
