Emeraude Bakery is a real bakery and the owner is a baker through and through. I walking into the…read moreshop and immediately noticed piles of 50# bags of flour stacked everywhere. I also noticed two large piles of dough proofing and a fresh pecan roll on the cooling rack. Emeraude supports other cottage cooks through the display and sale of their products: ice cream and cookies to mention a few, so you are not just there to buy bread. However, bread is the primary reason you are here. I didn't know about the preorder program (great way to reduce waste) but there was still plenty to choose from. I am a sucker for sourdough, big selling point, and we took one home as well as several pecan rolls. The pecan rolls were spot on: great texture and flavor. The caramel stayed soft even as it cooled, excellent. Maybe that was the duck fat. Not likely to do this again due to the price. I am always impresed when a baker gets a solid crust with a soft chewy interior on any loaf of bread. Our loaf was perfect in that regard. On the other hand, the bottom crust, while not burnt, required a tremendous amount of force to cut through it. See the picture and notice the very dark color. The sour flavor of the loaf was not overly powerful and everyone liked it. Fall is the perfect time for this bread because it goes great with soups and stews.

I wish it had more melted chocolate throughout but the croissant itself was buttery and delicious. The special, a jambalaya pizza, was good and the little Tabasco sauce was cute. You could tell that's a darn good jambalaya and felt a bit wasted on the pizza. It's a cute place but don't make plans to sit unless you get lucky. A lot of friends gather to hangout and that takes up most of the space. Service is good and I've never don't the pre-order and pickup but seems like they've got a plan that works.

The space is a little narrow but gorgeous, with lots of nice natural-feeling light and an open and airy feel. You can see into the bakery and there's a nice display with all the available pastries. Cute merchandise adorns a few racks and shelves (it took a lot of self control to not buy a sweatshirt!). The way the line works conflicts a little bit with the entrance but it moved quickly enough to not be a problem. We got a tahini brownie, an espresso chocolate chip cookie, and a coconut and orange scone. Of course, they also sell beautiful breads and some small meal options like paninis and granola bowls. It all looked delightful. Service was very pleasant and patient. The lady in line ahead of me wasn't being very kind to the workers and speaking to them in a very demanding tone, and they handled her with grace and professionalism. They were also working cohesively as a team to ensure quick service. All our treats were yummy. My surprise favorite was probably the coconut and orange scone. The glaze on top was sweet and pleasantly crackle-y and the flavors were balanced and paired perfectly together. The espresso cookie was also balanced and super yummy; espresso and chocolate go together for a reason! The tahini brownie was fun to try and wildly gooey/rich as promised by the addition of the tahini, almost too much so for my preferences. It is SO fudgy, lol. Definitely very pleased with the whole experience. Give them a try if you're nearby!

This time around we hit the drive-thru and got a half dozen and two kolaches. These might be the best kolaches I've had from a donut shop. Tony is the guy who makes the delicious donuts. He's always friendly, and his team always has a smile waiting for customers. Although they don't have any of the specialty donuts that some stores offer, they have all of the traditional donuts you come to expect -- old fashioned, glazed, sprinkles, cake, twists, and coffee rolls. They also have kolaches (spicy and regular). I always grab my donuts to go, but there are chairs and tables to enjoy your donuts in the store. The dining area is basic and somewhat sterile, but it gets the job done. Gourmet Donuts also sells a variety of cold drinks and hot coffee if you're thirsty or need a drink to go. They sometimes sell out of donuts, but you can call Tony and he'll set aside the donuts you want. There's also a drive thru window if you don't want to come inside.

They have a smallish seating area with a bar, plenty of space for a sandwich shop, and a big screen tv that was showing a Back to the Future movie. We ordered: - BLT (Thursday it is the Thursday special and comes with fries and a drink for $12) - Cheesesteak (obviously) with onions, with cheese wiz as the Lord intended - Mozzarella Jawns - I've never heard of that before but they're a very wide, sorta flatish cheese stick. I think they are named after an app from Bar Jawn in Manayunk (a Philadelphia neighborhood). Took it to go. It comes with house made chips and I ate those most of the way home. I'm normally not a fan of house made kettle style chips but these were great! Too salty for my husband but just right for me so your mileage may vary. The hot out of the fryer mozzarella and fries did not fare well on the 12 minute drive home but when I got to the house I popped them in the air fryer and they crisped back up to perfection. My husband had the BLT and he said it was delicious. The bacon was a little more crisp than he does it for himself but that's a personal preference thing. The tomatoes and lettuce were very fresh. As a BLT aficionado, he was a fan. The real star here was the cheesesteak. My husband said "this is better than the cheesesteaks I've had in Philadelphia" and he was not wrong. The meat was cooked perfectly, chopped and tender. Seasoned but not so much that the onions couldn't shine. Onions were browned and lightly softened, not soggy. The bread was delicious, soft and soaked in their homemade cheese wiz. Their cheese wiz? A national treasure. If I could order it by the tub I would and I'd never struggle to get my kids to eat their veggies again. It's that good. The whole thing was a 12/10. I have pictures but they're blurry because I couldn't sit the sandwich down long enough to photograph it so I'll rely on others for that. TL;DR - Go get a cheesesteak.
