    a variety of bagels

The best sesame bagels I've found in the area. Started buying their bagels last season as a regular vendor at the Sunday Farmer's Market in Milwaukie. Then discovered their cart in the nearby Milwaukie Station Cart Pod for year round purchases. They have a good selection of hand rolled and boiled bagels and I typically pick up a half dozen with a mix of sesame, cinnamon raisin, and jalapeno cheese. As mentioned above, the sesame are particularly outstanding as it appears they toast the seeds which makes a lovely flavor difference from other brands. Fresh bagels are $8.00 for a half dozen and are lovely and soft. You can also purchase a half dozen day olds for $4.00. Those come as a mixed bag so you can't choose the types. Good selection of spreads, bagel sandwich options and large dessert items and drinks. Only downside is the inconsistent service at this location.

Sometimes when I post a review, I'm reluctant to tell the truth about how good it is. I don't want to show up and not be able to get whatever I want in a timely fashion! No can do. The good thing about these guys is that there are three convenient locations and one of them is close to us in Milwaukie. Ok, seriously. We're bagel snobs who've ordered East Coast bagels online and had them shipped to us so we could mainline them (Zabar's). I have to say that these are hands down the BEST BAGELS that we've ever had. The shmears are high quality, too! I'm kind of in shock but can honestly tell you that we found the East Coast on the West Coast. Puddletown Bagels, I salute you.

This place is a *One Stop Bagel Hole In One* I was craving some bomb ass bagels this last week - specifically a bagel sandwich I used to have on the weekends growing up as a kid. Y'all feel that way? Remembering something nostalgic and craving something as close as possible? Well, I'm currently a little sick watching my 5 month old puppy and OH MY GOSH I remembered my coworker mentioning Puddletown Bagels last week and how much they really enjoyed eating here, so I hopped on Grubhub and got it delivered this morning. Low and behold..... THE DOUBLE TROUBLE BREAKFAST BAGEL SANDWICH!! 2 eggs, double the bacon, and you can CUSTOMIZE which bagel you'd like it on and the spread type!! I put together my "childish" bagel - Swiss and Cheddar Cheese, Avocado, Pesto Spread, Lettuce, and Onion.... I smiled so hard after the first bite because I could barely get my mouth around it it was ASTRONOMICALLY HUGE anddddd oh so delicious!! I cannot wait to take my hubby here and have him try it out the breakfast side which I adventure my way into the lunch section next time. Oh!! Did I mention all their bagels are HAND MADE AND BOILED DAILY?! ANDDDDDD a discounted dozen / half dozen for day old bagels?? Like hello this place is not one to sleep on! Bagels are superior to most breads, so if you've never slammed some eggs / meat and cheese between two perfect bagel halves, THIS is the best place for you all to try it out. Puddletown Bagels will become a regular place for us.

Bernstein's is a popular spot - having arrived at the opening time we felt lucky to secure a table. Here is what we ordered: bagel and lox, garden bagel and raisin smear bagel; as well as coffee. Everything was so good that even the picky eater amongst us had no complaints. We also enjoyed conversing with other patrons at Bernstein's. Having quickly deciphered that we are visiting from out of town (probably by overhearing us talk - the tables are very close together) they immediately made us feel welcome and recommended places to visit around Portland. We usually don't talk to strangers, so being pulled into a friendly conversation was a different kind of experience for us, but the one that we enjoyed with gratitude. Overall, this a great breakfast spot!

We happened to find this spot along the way, and the bagels looked really promising, so we had to stop. We grabbed some plain bagels, which were tasty and good flavor. I also ordered a bagel with egg, but that one kind of threw me off. I'm not a fan of spongy eggs--they always feel a little fake to me . That said, I was hungry, so I still ate it. Overall, it was a good stop and definitely satisfied our bagel craving before hitting the road. I'd come back for the plain bagels, just maybe skip the egg next time.

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd give a Portland bagel five stars…read more A few things to note here: 1. Oregon is a miserable state for bagels. Arguably the best in the genre here exists in Hood River, and it's about par with Northeast supermarket bagels or the British Columbia approximation of a Montreal bagel. It's fine, but far better than the bagel-shaped rolls of white bread you'll encounter here. 2. Bentley's is in a neighborhood dense with bagels, but light on good bagels. The names of its bagel-making neighbors are familiar to the locals, but they're also a big part of the reason why expats go out of their way to travel across town and wait in lines for bagels that might be passable replicas of those they remember. My family is from New Jersey, which has its own (albeit unlauded) bagel culture entirely, and has spent more than a decade here lodging bagel complaints. Their last straw was a place in St. John's that moved to the art museum and then to a place by the Widmer brewery that sort of made a decent bagel, but charged about $3 for the privilege of eating one. Not with cream cheese, not with lox or whitefish--$3 for the bagel itself. Sirs, you can go fuck yourselves with that level of extortion for what's essentially a Shop-Rite+ bagel. Bentley's has been much more reasonable and consistent. In a town that considers boiling a bagel an artisanal option and not, in fact, a default, Bentley's gets its chewy exterior and density down. While I'm slightly disappointed that the dough lacks some of the complexity of its back-east contemporaries--especially on a coast where the tang of a sourdough is approached with such pride--Bentley's gets the consistency of its bagels down. It comes down to sound fundamentals: Bentley's makes only eight varieties of bagels, but includes right-coast vestiges like salt and onion. More importantly, though a single bagel is still $2 (slight sticker shock from back east), that gets into the buck-and-change range quickly when you get a baker's dozen for $21 (roughly $1.60 per). I haven't gotten the cream cheese or lox here because I like making life as difficult on myself as possible. The best cream cheese I've found here is in Hillsboro. The best lox and whitefish? Astoria. So if a bagel spot is going to be out of my way anyway, I may as well start the weekend picking up a bag on 21st street, hitting 26 for cream cheese, and popping up to Astoria for a room for the weekend. After nearly a decade and a half in this state, Bentley's has helped my family shorten the bagel map a bit and given us the best option the Portland metro has to option. Before you give up on bagels entirely and start believing things like "Hmm, maybe biscuits and gravy ARE worth my time," pop into Bentley's on a quiet Sunday morning and try it for yourself.
