Oh pumpernickel! I tied one of their sandwiches on a pumpernickel bagel with olive spread. What a delicious way to start the day. Every single bite was heavenly.

My bagel was very delicious! Portion and price also good. Staff were helpful and nice! Definitely would come again and eat in the UFO

I've heard quite a bit about Puddletown Bagels and after craving bagels one morning, I decided to give it a try. Puddletown Bagels has quite a few locations, some of which are food trucks. However, this location is their cafe and is located right on 82nd. Parking can be a bit tricky as there isn't much space, and it could get busy in the morning. However, we were fortunate enough to find one as someone else was leaving. The inside of the shop is cozy and they sell quite a few items other than just bagels (such as pastries, coffee, or bagel buns to-go!). I got a salmon lox bagel and it was delicious. They have a variety of bagel buns that you can choose from and all of them looked delectable. They also have a variety of cream cheeses that you could customize your bagel with. In the end, everything was delicious and the portion was huge. I think it was reasonable for the price and I would come back!

Picked up some day old bagels $6 for 13 and it was pretty good. They were assorted bagels that were frozen and would consider them still semi fresh. They were chewy in the inside yet had good texture on the exterior.

I got the turkey bagel sandwich with an everything bagel and avocado, best bagel I've ever had. I also shared some of their home potatoes and they were perfect. The environment was amazing, I will definitely be going back

I am a regular at this location. This morning I was greeted by an employee who was wearing Headphones, and actively ignoring customers, and just not in a great mood apparently. When I placed my order, it was as if I made their morning worse. I was asked to tip, I always do, but for someone to say to a customer to tip is unprofessional. Also both bagels were burnt. I ordered a breakfast bagel with bacon that was burnt, and a plain bagel, also burnt. I work in the food industry, we all have bad days. But don't treat customers like shit. I don't write reviews, but this was a valid experience to report in my mind.

Sadly, my wife and I live in a part of town that is a bit of a bagel desert. There was one place we used to frequent regularly, but after repeated incidents of atrocious customer service, as well as some snappy, snarky commentary when the issue was addressed, we've left that place behind forever. Fortunately, our first visit to Puddletown gives us hope! It's still a little out of the way, but nowhere near as far as our other current favorite, so this weekend's discovery was a happy accident! We ordered a smoked salmon lox and a BELT to take with us on our way to the Oregon Renaissance Festival, and both of us found our orders to be just what we wanted, and filling enough to keep us going (and avoid buying overpriced faire food) for the rest of the day! A pretty awesome deal, considering how inexpensive these sandwiches are! They also came out hot and fresh in less than five minutes! Pretty great, all around. I expect we'll return sooner than later.

This Jew has found a new bagel place! A fellow journalist friend and I like to hunt down good boiled bagels and commiserate about editors, deadlines, low pay, and either too much word count or not enough. You know, the usual. This time we decided to give the food cart bagel scene a try. It didn't take long to see that Puddletown was the best place to try. True to advertising this rainy morning we traversed puddles to get our bagel on. Situated in Cartlandia on SE 82nd Avenue just north of Johnson Creek, Puddletown Bagels backs up to 82nd making for a quick entry and exit. Everything you need to know is displayed on the front of the cart. Which bagels are in stock today, the specials and the menu. The staff was super nice and apologized in advance that it would be about 15 minutes for my bagel. I don't mind when they warn you like that. It actually only took eight minutes. I got a everything bagel with plain schmear, because that is how you find out real fast if the bagelmaster knows his or her stuff. Puddletown knows its stuff! I went back up and ordered a bakers dozen to go and brought them home to the Shiksa and the Tax Deduction. Poor bagels never stood a chance. I've had bagels in Detroit, New York, and Chicago. These measure up with any of these places, even Detroit, who I think has the best bagels.

Food was good but waited 40 minutes after ordering before I got my food and they messed up the customization on my order. Clearly the business is prioritizing mobile orders over people who show up in person to order, because 40 minutes for a bagel sandwich that was just grocery store lunch meat and cheese on a toasted bagel is pretty wild. The food was good but the service was enough to make me not want to go back.

Bernstein's is a popular spot - having arrived at the opening time we felt lucky to secure a table. Here is what we ordered: bagel and lox, garden bagel and raisin smear bagel; as well as coffee. Everything was so good that even the picky eater amongst us had no complaints. We also enjoyed conversing with other patrons at Bernstein's. Having quickly deciphered that we are visiting from out of town (probably by overhearing us talk - the tables are very close together) they immediately made us feel welcome and recommended places to visit around Portland. We usually don't talk to strangers, so being pulled into a friendly conversation was a different kind of experience for us, but the one that we enjoyed with gratitude. Overall, this a great breakfast spot!

We happened to find this spot along the way, and the bagels looked really promising, so we had to stop. We grabbed some plain bagels, which were tasty and good flavor. I also ordered a bagel with egg, but that one kind of threw me off. I'm not a fan of spongy eggs--they always feel a little fake to me . That said, I was hungry, so I still ate it. Overall, it was a good stop and definitely satisfied our bagel craving before hitting the road. I'd come back for the plain bagels, just maybe skip the egg next time.

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd give a Portland bagel five stars…read more A few things to note here: 1. Oregon is a miserable state for bagels. Arguably the best in the genre here exists in Hood River, and it's about par with Northeast supermarket bagels or the British Columbia approximation of a Montreal bagel. It's fine, but far better than the bagel-shaped rolls of white bread you'll encounter here. 2. Bentley's is in a neighborhood dense with bagels, but light on good bagels. The names of its bagel-making neighbors are familiar to the locals, but they're also a big part of the reason why expats go out of their way to travel across town and wait in lines for bagels that might be passable replicas of those they remember. My family is from New Jersey, which has its own (albeit unlauded) bagel culture entirely, and has spent more than a decade here lodging bagel complaints. Their last straw was a place in St. John's that moved to the art museum and then to a place by the Widmer brewery that sort of made a decent bagel, but charged about $3 for the privilege of eating one. Not with cream cheese, not with lox or whitefish--$3 for the bagel itself. Sirs, you can go fuck yourselves with that level of extortion for what's essentially a Shop-Rite+ bagel. Bentley's has been much more reasonable and consistent. In a town that considers boiling a bagel an artisanal option and not, in fact, a default, Bentley's gets its chewy exterior and density down. While I'm slightly disappointed that the dough lacks some of the complexity of its back-east contemporaries--especially on a coast where the tang of a sourdough is approached with such pride--Bentley's gets the consistency of its bagels down. It comes down to sound fundamentals: Bentley's makes only eight varieties of bagels, but includes right-coast vestiges like salt and onion. More importantly, though a single bagel is still $2 (slight sticker shock from back east), that gets into the buck-and-change range quickly when you get a baker's dozen for $21 (roughly $1.60 per). I haven't gotten the cream cheese or lox here because I like making life as difficult on myself as possible. The best cream cheese I've found here is in Hillsboro. The best lox and whitefish? Astoria. So if a bagel spot is going to be out of my way anyway, I may as well start the weekend picking up a bag on 21st street, hitting 26 for cream cheese, and popping up to Astoria for a room for the weekend. After nearly a decade and a half in this state, Bentley's has helped my family shorten the bagel map a bit and given us the best option the Portland metro has to option. Before you give up on bagels entirely and start believing things like "Hmm, maybe biscuits and gravy ARE worth my time," pop into Bentley's on a quiet Sunday morning and try it for yourself.
