This lady is so rude! After spending over $1,200 in this establishment you'd think she'd be more professional. I understand that this is a small restaurant but if they can't accommodate a group of 20 to celebrate a birthday then they should just say. I was emailing the general manager, Kathy Rodriguez prior to this, and everything seemed fine. She told me they don't do reservations and to arrive before 8pm. We did just that. Towards the end of the night this woman became more aggressive. Scolded members of our party and even shoved one out of the way by pushing him while he was in the chair all because she didn't like that there was a chair at the end of the table. If security saw the men in our group standing he was told by her to tell us that they needed to be seated. They stopped the music as punishment to all guest in the restaurant, until our group left the restaurant. Horrible service from the very beginning. We called on a Tuesday to reserve since it was 15-16 people. We were informed reservations was not required. Friday comes and its a big commotion. Immediately the manager was rude, goes by the name Esperanza. Service was bad. We were told we needed to separate, physically, the tables if we want to pay seperate tabs and would have dif servers. Definitely did not happen at all. This one male server rude, sassy, and made unnecessary comments who was NOT even assisting us, his apron was #3. I asked for NO egg, and the server said "just remove it" what if I had alergies? The audacity! -3/4 of the party did not get their food. The birthday girl was the LAST one to get their food. The server wrote down all of orders yet still messed up. Kept stating it wasnt written down. - the server did not follow up if we wanted water throughtout our course. It took them about 30-40min to bring us our drinks. But no follow up for refills - We requested the birthday celebration that comes with a shot, flan, and hat. Nope we got that boxed, as in TO GO! -Very unwelcoming and rude when I approached the manager. Unebelievably the worst place to celebrate a birthday especially if you come with a party. The place was pretty dead. But they did have music playing. And the decor was pretty cool. We were seated quickly. We were a party of 4. We started with margaritas. I got frozen strawberry which I didn't really like the taste of. My Abuela got frozen mango and my mom got the piña colada. My Abuela wasn't too content with her margarita because you could barely taste the tequila so she told our waiter and he took the margaritas back and added more tequila! For For appetizers we got that the chicharrón con Arepas and 3 empanadas. The chicharrón was really good also the arepas. The empanadas were good as well but not a fan of the potatoes that were inside of them. For our main course my mom, boyfriend and I all got the skirt steak which I must say was really good! Super tasty. Didn't need any sauce etc. My abuela got the fish. Which she really liked. The one thing she didn't like was the tostones which were overdone. Super hard. Overall this was a great place. We had a dinner around 7pm on weekend nights. It was busy but my order didn't take time to come. I liked their palatines and enjoyed the time with my friend. We didn't finish our plates because of our chatting, and the bartender cleaned the table without asking us, which was the only reason I didn't put a 5 stars. The place is decorated and the tables are full of pictures. It is a little cramped in there, but doable. There is dancing and music so you can def make a night of it. The food is so good! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! The manger Esperanza ruined what we thought was going to be a wonderful experience based on all the great reviews. From the time we walked in, there were seating issues, until the time we left, with a yelling match between her and a very unsatisfied patron in our party. She is inexperienced, dismissive, rude and very immature. We had several issues and based on her actions, no action, and her attitude, she blatantly didn't want to be bothered and was very annoyed to speak about it. Instead of helping her overwhelmed waitress, who was clearly struggling with our large party, stood by the bar laughing, making jokes, giving glares and dirty looks at our table. That was only when she decided to come out of the kitchen where she was hiding. I ordered a Margarita and after an hour of telling our waitress I still had no drink, I went to the bar to get it myself. I found myself getting yelled at by a young disheveled waitress who kept screaming at me to sit down. I told her "Not without my drink I won't." Then we have the food.... which seemed to take just as long. The food starts appearing at our table randomly, in no timely order. People were finishing their food while others are just getting served. Most orders were wrong, incomplete, not served or not ordered at all. Two people had to get their food to go since it was never served at the table. We were never asked if we wanted our drinks refilled, dessert, is everything ok, ect..Our waitress, Rosalia, which I felt wasn't accustomed to serving big parties and was doing the best she knew how, was clearly in distress and having problems and NO ONE at that establishment helped her. After bringing issues to the manager as they were happening, we thought they would be addressed and rectified. What did she do about it? Absolutely Nothing! No apologies, No accountability, No desire to offer help or solutions for anything that was happening. It was disgusting as the 'manager' watched this catastrophe unfolding in front of her and do nothing. As if it was her way of getting back at us for complaining by sabotaging Rosalia. I can honestly say it looked liked she was getting off on watching us have a horrible time.WTAF!!Seriously?!?! To add to that we had discriminating and unacceptable remarks made from a LGBTQIA+ server while walking by our table.To that server... Pitiful & Pathetic Display of Representation. Shame on you! To the manager...Put on an apron and help your servers, take responsibility for what's happening in the restaurant you're supposed to be in charge of. Learn how to talk to your customer calmly and with respect when situations are brought to your attention. Also educated yourself on what it actually entails to be in a managerial position. I understand this isn't a Michelin award winning restaurant but com'on. Hire someone who comes with recommendations, experience and who understands the fundamentals of food service work and the hospitality industry. To The Rodriguez Family: I'm very disappointed we were unable to have that wonderful experience that is boasted about social media. We specifically chose this location based on that. It's unfortunate that the actions of one person (your manager) could ruin and distort our expectations of your restaurant. Every high star or great review could be no further from the truth for the 15+ people who were in attendance and dealt with the same encounter that evening. What was supposed to be a birthday celebration was nothing but a total disaster. Understaffing had nothing to do with our experience. Plenty of open tables, staff hanging around the bar, talking or on their phones just like the 'manager'. Traveled from Elgin to Pueblito Viejo (which is about a 50min drive) just to try it out since we had heard so many good things and we were not disappointed. The decor, ambiance, the food, the drinks and the service were all a 10/10. I was pleasantly surprised and I plan on making the trip in the future. I had the Margarita flight and every single one was delicious. For dinner I had the steak with rice and arepa. The steak was cooked to perfection and it literally melted in your mouth. I was in love with this Colombian restaurant from the moment I saw walls made out of pennies and men with margaritas. There are three things every Chicago city girl wants when she goes out on the weekend. The first is good drinks. Like a martini or a margarita. We like them refreshing as we like them fruity as we like them picturesque. The second thing is ambiance. We like a cool sign, different decor. Something to text our tinder boys about or at least we do it for the gram. The last is a dance floor. I get that we are sophisticated, but we're also fun. And there's nothing more fun than dancing the tango. We started off with a martini - the bartender makes a fabulous French 75 and some apps. Here you won't find salsa and chip or tacos, but what you do find are mouth watering gordita's and empanadas. There are so many good dishes to choose from on the menu. It is filled with traditional dishes, using high-quality, locally sourced products. Classics include Bandejas, seasoned skirt steak served with red beans, rice, fried pork rinds, sweet plantains, egg, and arepa; Churrascos, flame grilled outside skirt steak, with fried sweet plantains, cassava, salted boiled potatoes and chimichurri; and Sanchochos, rich beef rib stew with potatoes, cassava, green plantains, and corn. After some light bites, we went big and had the most amazing steak on the menu - Churrasco Pueblito Viejo. This steak came out on a huge wood tray plated with fried sweet plantains, cassava, salted boiled potatoes, and chimichurri. We couldn't even finish half of it - so if you order this, I suggest sharing it. Then we couldn't turn down one of the most classic margaritas on the menu, which came with an upside down beer poured halfway into it. You can travel to Colombia, without to go there. This place really catch me since the first moment. The decoration makes tou travel not just into Colombia, but also to the owner's family history. All the tables are decorated with family pictures telling their history. I had the bar and the table experience and they were just amazing from the drinks to the food. My preferred course wad the Churrasco (I'm a meat lover anyway). Jeffrey, the owner made sure to visit our table many times in every single visit to check if we were having a good experience.
