First time stopping here on our way home from Baker Lake. It was very disappointing. It took multiple asks to get our water which is much needed after being out in the wilderness. The salsa had a kick but not very flavorful. The chips tasted like the fryer needs cleaned. We got the queso dip which was also bland and seemed like fake cheese. The tortilla soup must have gotten all the salt other things were missing. It was not even edible because of how much salt it had. The "special" spicy sauce was ketchup and some other crap. It ruined that plate of food that may have been edible without it. The enchiladas were ok, most edible thing that was ordered but not great. The chimichanga was also bland. We are going home hungry and will eat something when we get home. Worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. read more

Went to this GEM on our way back from North Cascade NP-Its one of the few things open till 9pm around park. Food is authentic and service is best! Everything on menu looks awesum but we tried their Chicken spinach steak which came with rice and beans and it was the besttttt!! They have large really nice margaritas too. Puerto Penasco Mexican Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Lyman, Washington

This is a fairly new restaurant in the area of Lyman, which is appreciated since it's out in the middle of nowhere. It's Mexican or TexMex fare plus a bar. It is rumored that they were associated with Lorenzo's in Sedro Woolley, a local Mexican favorite. Unfortunately I don't think the food is quite as good as Lorenzo's plus it's about 10%-20% higher in cost. Beginning with their chips and salsa, the Chips were a bit stale and not warmed. The salsa is more of a runny consistency with few chunks of onion, pepper or tomato. It tasted decent but not a good chunky pico de gallo style salsa. My beef fajitas weren't up to my expectations either. The beef was odd shaped chunks, like trimmings. Some were thick, some thin, but all were tough. They don't appear to use skirt steak so that's possibly why it was unevenly sized and tough. They also used mushrooms and carrots if all things. And there was WAY too much undercooked green peppers and a lack of onion. Definitely not as good as any beef fajitas I've eaten anywhere else. As it is only 6 miles or so to Lorenzo's, I'd choose to head into Woolley for a better meal for less dinero. read more

Best Mexican in Skagit. Great atmosphere and better food. Been there twice. Took friends there second time for lunch. They will be back.

Was mediocre. Husband ordered the Chile Colorado and it was a light orange and runny. Isn't Chile Colorado supposed to be a deep red and sauce a little thicker? I tasted it and was kind of bland. I ordered enchiladas and they were very salty. The chips and salsa, however, was good. No alcohol was available while we were there (maybe permit issues?) but would have been nice to have a margarita. read more

We stopped in for breakfast yesterday and it was super good! The Upper Valley is lacking in places for breakfast. They have received a lot of requests to have it and they are trying to accommodate us. You don't expect breakfast at a Mexican restaurant, but you should give it a try! Best food, best drinks, best prices in Skagit! Rosa is my favorite bartender around, margaritas are always perfect and very reasonable priced! Rosa is very sweet and greets you with her warm friendly energy. I wish every Mexican restaurant could have a bartender as good as her. The food has always been on point. They have great entrees, but there are many great options for people on a budget too. I eat pretty light and always come out feeling I got a perfect portion for a great price. Puerto Penasco is my new favorite spot in Skagit, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes great margaritas, delicious food, and impeccable service! read more

The service was great and so was the ambiance. I ordered the camarones a diablo and the sauce was made with ketchup, there was a piece of plastic in my food, and the shrimp was undercooked..... The plastic looks like a piece to someones hoodie strings I tried calling the restaurant to get a refund but all numbers associated with this restaurant went straight to voicemail. $25 down the drain and I threw the food out. read more

I've had half of what's on the menu and it's all EXCELLENT!! staff is very nice. Only thing, don't put money in the jukebox! I have never wrote a review on an restaurant before but I am now, I am not happy with the service! I have placed orders from here a few time and every order was missing something! Just today I order again, the guy told me the total, and I waited for the order. When the order was ready I went up to pay and he handed me my change,mind you $15 less than what was owed! I said I believe you owe me more, as he's holding that exact amount in his hand! Fabulous place, great authentic food, great service and staff answering all our questions. Sarah and I are so happy with our 3 experiences here thinking of them catering our wedding. Took my niece this last time and she had a great time, probably cause I'm an awesome uncle, also can't go wrong with any of their drinks, everyone knows you pay more for top shelf drinks, well I thought people did. So I ate here a few times. The first couple of time the food was good. Tasted really fresh but the wait to get the food was long. From ordering to getting food it was about 45 min. There were people that were still waiting to get their food when we left. We basically filled up on chip and dip until the food came out. The last time the food was marginally quicker about 30 min and the food tasted bland. The food tasted old like it was sitting for a while. If you're going to take 30 min then I would expect fresh cooked food. I want to live this place but the long wait time and bland food just isn't worth it. read more

Tasty food, fast and friendly service. Cadillac margs were quite large, made with ingredients beyond the standard too sweet sour mix. We had the fajita burrito, fajita salad with steak, and a variety shrimp dish - all fresh, all good. Large portions but it was so yummy we took home leftovers even though the container was non biodegradable plastic. We'll try to reuse that somehow. read more

Rosa & Luis were very busy,and I'm sure everyone in the kitchen was too! But we enjoyed the atmosphere and a good margarita while we waited. We know Luis from other places he has worked, and always enjoy his smiles, humor, and the oh so melodic whistling, ha ha! The food is good, the restaurant is clean and the people are friendly. I hope we will get to enjoy Puerto Penasco for a long time. They're getting used to the flow of customers at this location that is new to them, but I'm sure it will get worked out. read more

We were lucky enough to stop in for the grand opening. The service and food was excellent! Keeping in mind that there are usually kinks to be worked out at a new place it was very impressive that everything was so good right out of the gate.
