    Tostones w/spicy dipping sauce

I've been wanting to try out this place for a long time but due to them operating out of a food truck, they aren't open very long during the day and they can't make as much food as they'd like to. I just saw a post on a FB page stating they'd be closed after this Friday "until further notice" so I knew I'd have to stop by. (I know they had been having some troubles getting their permanent location completed but I'm not sure what the issue is). I ordered 2 "The Rican" sandwiches and an order of "Tostones". The sandwiches are big & tasty and the tostones were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. I wish them luck & look forward to their permanent location finally opening.

The owner Pete is great! Food and atmosphere were pleasant. I'll definitely stop back when I'm in town.

We went to @petescafeaz in Sun City! We got a little lost but it's on the back left side of the main center entrance if you come in on RH Johnson. Excellent location, lots of parking. The bowling alley/billiards are right next door, making it quite an enjoyable spot! We got a half order the corned beef hash and eggs with potatoes and rye toast, we split the half order of biscuits and gravy, and the eggs Benedict (only available Friday-Sunday). Everything was exactly as I was hoping! Delicious! Hollaindaise was nice and buttery. The prices are fantastic. I appreciate that they offer half orders on the menu. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here and intend to be regulars!

Arroz con pollo. The mild sauce went well with it.

My five stars remains for my dine in outside experience. I made it there in my birthday month but just getting to update my review. I'm looking forward to when inside opens. The staff is friendly. Everything is clean. The food is delicious. My friend treated me and tried extra menu items. I ordered the chicken stew. They had one order left when we got there so I may have gotten extra chicken this visit. :-) It was delicious and enough to eat later in the week. My friend ordered the pork. The flavor was so good. I may get that next time. The tostones tasted better than when I had them before. (I fry plantains once.)

Puerto Rican Pete's for the win! There isn't anything else like this in the area. I had the rican sandwich (spicy) and empanadas (one beef and one pollo). As far a a Cuban style sandwich goes, the Rican made here is one of the best I've had in Arizona. The empanadas are as good as they look. (Amazing!). Here's hoping they can finally open for indoor soon as we really need something like this in the area! (As you can see by the line up). N 33.657511 | W -112.37686

Drove over 22 miles to get some Puerto Rican food and was not disappointed! So happy I bought a dozen frozen pasteles; they were not on the menu but available for purchase. They reminded me so much of back home, Just what I needed around this holiday time and being away from my fam. Thank you, Pete, for bringing La Isla to Phoenix!! Can't wait to stop by again!!!

Rice, red beans and pernil dinner was delicious! The platanos were great and the empanadas were meaty. The prices were very reasonable.

The restaurant is a very good size with lots of room and tables available. The decor is that of PR culture which is very colorful and bright. We started off with canoa which is a plantain stuffed with ground beef and cheese. It was very hot and delicious! For our "platos principals" (main entrees) I had the pechuga de pollo (chicken breast with grilled onions) with mofongo as my side (also comes with a side salad). It was very tasty and not dry at all. BFF had the pernil (pulled pork) with arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas) as his side which also came with a side salad. For dessert we shared the tembleque which is a coconut pudding but not in the traditional sense of pudding (more like a jelly texture). BFF also ordered coquito (holiday rum drink) & apparently our server (Sophia) omitted the rum so the owner came by and offered a fresh glass. Speaking of, everything was wonderful except that Sophia seemed to have a bit of a poor attitude as she wasn't too friendly. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt as perhaps she wasn't feeling well but out of the corner of my eye she had this almost "eyeroll" look. Perhaps she just didn't want to be there (she was friendly upon us leaving and thanked us). Anyway, I highly recommend this establishment. Both food and ambience was great and the service was too.

Anita and her husband are extremely hospital and filled with love and compassion at what they do. The selection is wide. And it's a bakery as well! Cuban bread is unique and very hard to find, as it's not made like other breads are. For this reason their Cuban sandwich is the best in Phoenix! I felt like I was at home with that warm nostalgic feeling of Cuba. All their dishes are to die for. From the ropa vieja to the bistec empanizado. Their papa rellenas, tostones/maduros and croquetas are a must try. Since they are a bakery they make fresh loafs daily. As well as pastelitos de coco, güayaba and güayaba con queso. Their pastelitos de carne (meat pastries are a special order item). Anything Cuban they have. And it's superb and made to order fresh! Their cafecitos are so good, you will never go back to Starbucks. Go to go by yourself or with a large party as well. I'm actually staying in touch with Anita to have send me sandwiches to San Francisco. Same day air of course. If your blessed to live in Phoenix you must try this Cuban gem. Anita will treat you as if you're family.
