I've been following Pete for some time now. It's not common to find great Puerto Rican food in the desert of Arizona. I called in an order of a dozen Pastales for the holidays to pick up. Pete made it happen the next day!! While waiting I ordered the Vegetarian Plate which included Rice and beans, and fried green bananas. So delicious. The food is consistently full of flavor. I've been wanting to try out this place for a long time but due to them operating out of a food truck, they aren't open very long during the day and they can't make as much food as they'd like to. I just saw a post on a FB page stating they'd be closed after this Friday "until further notice" so I knew I'd have to stop by. (I know they had been having some troubles getting their permanent location completed but I'm not sure what the issue is). I ordered 2 "The Rican" sandwiches and an order of "Tostones". The sandwiches are big & tasty and the tostones were nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. I wish them luck & look forward to their permanent location finally opening. read more

We went to @petescafeaz in Sun City! We got a little lost but it's on the back left side of the main center entrance if you come in on RH Johnson. Excellent location, lots of parking. The bowling alley/billiards are right next door, making it quite an enjoyable spot! We got a half order the corned beef hash and eggs with potatoes and rye toast, we split the half order of biscuits and gravy, and the eggs Benedict (only available Friday-Sunday). Everything was exactly as I was hoping! Delicious! Hollaindaise was nice and buttery. The prices are fantastic. I appreciate that they offer half orders on the menu. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here and intend to be regulars! read more

My five stars remains for my dine in outside experience. I made it there in my birthday month but just getting to update my review. I'm looking forward to when inside opens. The staff is friendly. Everything is clean. The food is delicious. My friend treated me and tried extra menu items. I ordered the chicken stew. They had one order left when we got there so I may have gotten extra chicken this visit. :-) It was delicious and enough to eat later in the week. My friend ordered the pork. The flavor was so good. I may get that next time. The tostones tasted better than when I had them before. (I fry plantains once.) read more

Puerto Rican Pete's for the win! There isn't anything else like this in the area. I had the rican sandwich (spicy) and empanadas (one beef and one pollo). As far a a Cuban style sandwich goes, the Rican made here is one of the best I've had in Arizona. The empanadas are as good as they look. (Amazing!). Due to my love for hand pies....sweet or savory, I finally made it to Pete's. I thought I was going to just go in and pick up the empanadas. They are made fresh... so I waited. Ordered one chicken and one pork. Both were delicious.... would of liked the large disc for more. Also ordered Alcapurria that was good too... but next time will stick with the empanadas. Sorry Pete. My friends took me there for breakfast after reading the rave reviews. Our waitress, bless her heart, may not be cut out for this career. She was nice enough but she struggled to take our simple orders & forgot to bring my water. She said she has a short memory but this was extremely short. The food was so-so at best. I had eggs, bacon, and hash browns with toast. My friend had blueberry pancakes and cafe potatoes. The pancakes were from a mix and the potatoes were inedible- almost like they were refrozen at least once and then fried. They had a strange texture on the outside that none of us could quite put a finger on - they were left on the plate. Prices were good but I would pay more for better food and service. read more

Had breakfast here. Only 4 other people here. Waited while the waitress gabbed with other diners, 3 minutes later finally says sit where you want. Omelets were light and fluffy, good amount of meat and veggies. Was fresh and hot . Potatoes and toast were good. Went for dinner, we have a club sandwich and a Rueben. Rueben sandwich was soggy, bread should have been toasted and firm but was soft and soggy. Club had good amount of ingredients in it but was so hard to bite through it ripped the roof of my mouth. We had the onion rings with sandwiches, they were greasy ... had snacks one night , the pretzel was too well done, No Salt... what pretzel has no salt. Not impressed with the pretzel. We were doing some business in this shopping complex and saw Puerto Rican Pete's Food Truck parked in front of their new business location coming soon. They are officially open, but just doing the cooking out of their food truck at this time. They will be open 11am to 5pm Tuesday - Friday right now. They will not be open this Thursday Dec 30th or Friday Dec 31st. Once their brick and mortar location is complete their hours will be expanding including easy hours to enjoy their machaca breakfast burritos, alcapurrias. All their food is freshly made every morning from scratch. Nothing frozen! They know all the ingredients in their food and that is so awesome! Once construction is done will have 3 fryers. 2 standard fryers and one special for vegan food! Yes that is right. They offer vegan options. Real vegan with no cross contamination! Pete has a vegan following of close friends who helped him make true vegan options available. I asked employees from other businesses in this shopping center if they had tried their food and they all had and enjoyed it. A couple of people even mentioned how much they cleaned their food truck every morning. The girls and I sat and talked with them awhile and took pictures for Yelp of course! The girls tried the Arroz Con Pollo. They enjoyed it very much. It was loaded with flavors. They offer catering as well and just gotten through doing some events for Amazon and a few other large companies. If Empanadas, arroz con pollo with tostones, or pulled pork sounds tempting they are worth trying if you are in the area. read more

Pete's is truly a hidden gem in the heart of Sun City West. It's open to the public, but it can be a little tricky to find because it's on the back side of one of SCW's recreation centers. It's definitely worth looking for. The food is delicious, portions are large, the prices are very affordable and the service is wonderful. I've been given samples of some of their food items when inquiring with the server about the various items on the menu. The biscuits and gravy are heavenly, and I typically don't care for biscuits and gravy. I like sitting in a booth with a window seat and watching the bowlers at the bowling alley next door. It's definitely not a fancy place, but it is one of the best locally owned restaurants around. read more

If I could give this place more than five stars, I would...don't even think about running away when you realize it's not traditional Mexican food, you will be glad you stayed! Everyone is warm and friendly. They have a full bar, comfortable seating, a great patio and their food is authentic and clearly put together with love and appreciation for flavor. We started out sharing one pappas, an empanada (the spinach and cheese, but there were other options) and a plantain stuffed with beef and other deliciousness. Then we wandered out to the patio and decided to eat out there as it was a perfect place to enjoy the warm evening weather. Wow! I was thoroughly impressed. Food: Best empanadas I have had since moving to Phoenix! The shell was golden brown and crispy. Both the beef and chicken versions were moist. I took some more home to have my extended family try and they agreed. Make sure to ask for their garlic cream sauces. They have a regular and spicy version.
