*** thanks for your response , that was really classy . I appreciate that *** by the way I didn't say anything because I don't like wasting food and nobody came by to ask me if everything was okay . Not that I'm mad at that like I said the lady was nice. Thank you though for responding. I wish you guys a lot of luck*** I really wanted to like this place being a native NewYoRican. The rice was okay but the pernil was mad dry. Didn't give you any wedges of lime to offset the dryness and the flavor was lacking garlic! Any Puerto Rican who cooks pernil knows that you don't skip on the garlic! That's the key ingredient lots and lots of garlic the cloves inside of the meat strategically placed. The service was cool. The person who greeted me was very nice. The place is a small unassuming spot.. cute. Really wish the quality of food was better. Oh the platano Maduro was on point very sweet. But the salad.. it was in arugula salad mixed greens something that's so non Puerto Rican and more than likely came out of a bag. Classical Puerto Rican they just give you Iceberg and tomato and call it good. They also have a pretty small menu selection I was looking for bistec with onions, or bacalao or a little bit more options on the cuchifrito... what they have on the menu they didn't even have available which is a little disappointing. Overall I would not repeat but I'm glad I had an opportunity to support my people.

Food was amazing. Had the Pernil plate. It was so delicious. It took me back to my dad making this food at home. 15/10. Will definitely be back. The service was quick and friendly.

My husband and I really enjoyed this Puerto Rican casual counter service spot! Loved their house made hot sauce. It was different! The dishes we tried: -Alcapurra Vegana de Yuca: Fritters from Yuca stuffed with seasoned soy meat- This one was so fun, interesting and delicious. The outside masa dough is made from mashed fried yuca. -Habichuelas red kidney bean and potatoes side stew: this one was more delicious than expected. Not a ton of beans and potatoes and we wished there was more in it but really delicious flavor! -Mofongo Solo: Was good but a tad less flavor than other mofongos I have had maybe. It was delicious when we put the stew on it. -Mushroom empanada Everything was delicious and the staff was great! Very thankful for how vegan and vegetarian friendly they are too. I believe they have vegan mayo available for dishes with mayo. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! An Evie favorite!

The food is to die for! It's so flavorful, fresh, and cooked with love. I love how the food tasted as if it sat down in a kitchen and food served right up from the stove. It's a lot of food and great for the price. I definitely recommend the pernil, empanadas, and the chicken mofongo! The rice is so tasty that I could eat that for forever! The only thing I wish is that it had a bit more meat.

We loveddddd this place, I had the mofongo as pictured and it was the best one I have ever had, is going to be hard to beat as the owners said . My husband had the pernil and he also loved it. Portions are very big, we have some left overs. They also do take out. The place is small but very cozy. We loved they were playing salsa all the time. Owners are very sweet and nice. They gave us their recs and did not miss. They also have empanadas so we have to go back to try them ASAP. 10/10!!

Puerto Rican food is my favorite. As a Puerto Rican woman who cooks this cuisine I love to try restaurants of the origin. The food was delicious and fresh. Service and ascetic's were a perfect match

Empanadillas were stellar! The Mofongo was "ok", a bit dry and didn't reheat too well. Pernil was flavorful and juicy . Service was good and ambience welcoming with lots of Puerto Rico decor

The guys who run this place know what they are doing. The food is delicious. Had the alcapurria- my first ever made of yucca. Crispy, nicely fried with no greasy residue. Now that's talent. Ordered 4 MOFONGO s two with carne frita. Everybody loved their food. They want more! I was particularly impressed with the quick service. Despite having several orders ahead of me, the wait was not too long. Come by for great puertorican food.

I order take out here a few times a month. The food is excellent, and always comes hot and served nicely. I've been inside as well, it's a little spot off 15th Ave and Indian school with a cafe type feel inside. Everything I've had has been excellent always.

Never have I ever had Puerto Rican food before and I've been missing out! We have a couple we have a monthly dinner meet up at places we have never tried before. We actually have a wheel we spin to pick where we go and this month the wheel landed on Phoenix Coqui. It's a small place but air conditioning worked excellent. The owner had great energy and was super nice. Food was sooo good. I felt the owner described it perfectly. Their food is all cooked with spices. Not spicy spices but flavor! We tried the best seller: Plato de Pernil. Which was pulled Pork with rice. I'm not a huge pulled pork fan I'll admit but I wanted to try it. It was delicious! Had just the right amount of flavor to it. Wasn't dry at all. Rice was very flavorful Then we got various empandillas: ground beef, chicken, beef and cheese, and pizza. Again. Everything was super flavorful! Then they give you habanero sauce and a creamy aioli sauce to eat with everything. Delish!! I want to go back to try the mofongo! I believe that's what we smelled as we were leaving. The place was flooded with the smell of garlic! Yum

I have been trying to get to this place. I got Chicken empanadilla, Tostones (fried green plantain), & Pollo ala Criolla (stewed chicken, yellow rice, beans, & salad). Pina Colada to cool off too! Everything was delicious and plenty. I miss Puerto Rician food and this hit the spot!

I ordered mofongo, yuca and sorullito, and a lemonade, I cannot express how delicious the mofongo was! And it was a good size portion too! I highly recommend this place.

Lylo Swim Club was always top of mind but I still searched to see if there was an option closer to where I live in North East Phoenix. Ultimately Lylo Swim Club was what I chose and I am very glad that I did. The fan mister gave us great comfort and the pool was the perfect temperature for us all. The popular Dole Whip drink did not disappoint we all three ordered one. Also the food was delicious and our server Miguel provided us with stellar service! I highly recommend that you book a pool side lounge or daybed for your next gathering.

Just keep an eye on how much you're spending! There's a lot of spots for improvement here, but I'd also say that Lylo is one of the few businesses I've ever seen do such a visually-great escape out from their pool area. If you're here for the escape and temper your expectations for food or drink, I think you'd have a good time. There are a TON of mosquitos here, so prepare accordingly. The bar and hotel lobby didn't have bug spray nor any for sale. The nearby liquor store does have some for sale at less than a block's walk. (The pool is hot mid Phoenix summer. The pool itself felt closer to a hot tub than a refreshingly cold pool. I'm told this is normal for pools in Arizona in the summer.) PROS: -All of the drinks are really pretty, visually, and with the pool, you have a great mecca for social media photos. -Despite the ridiculous 110+ Phoenix heat, we were relatively comfortable in the shaded restaurant area with the misters. We could still see the pool, but we weren't baking alive. -Pool bathrooms were clean enough. There were lots of puddles and toilet paper on the ground, but nothing was horrific or moldy like some pool bathrooms can be. Spacious stalls for changing too - though I didn't see any shower or changing areas. -The pool area itself is pretty! It makes for gorgeous Instagram photos, and Lylo knows that. There are lots of little spots (a camp sign, a chair off on its own, all the loungers, etc.) that make cute photo backdrops in addition to the pool itself. -There is a collection of inflatable pool toys in the corner that seem to be open for guest use. CONS: -Water bottles are not allowed at all - not even sealed disposable plastic ones from the grocery store. They'll store them for you, and you can fetch your own water with disposable plastic cups while you're here. -The misters in the pool area were broken. With the heat, we chose not to actually use the pool, and instead stayed in the restaurant, shaded area with misters. -All of the on-menu drinks are pretty sweet and not super boozy (at their price points). It's easy to go through quite a few at their higher price. Make sure that you're spending intentionally. -We weren't in love with the food we ordered. It felt like frozen food reheated and served to us. To be fair, that's about to be expected from a pool bar, but it was still something to note at the prices and with nearby restaurants walkable. -Service is there. I wouldn't say it was friendly or welcoming, but the servers checked in often in-between talking to people in swimsuits or joking with friends. I rarely waited for anything, but I didn't feel like a valued guest. -The fabric of the chaise loungers and lounge beds are stained. I saw some employees hauling off some of them and shoving them into the back of a fabric cleaning van, so I'd assume they rotate in and out and have to deal with a ton of spilled drinks.

I arrived a bit before 6 to find it closed, no sign on the door and nothing online stating it had closed. So we headed downtown to the second location. I arrived about 6:10 pm and was asked if I had a reservation. I explained that we went to the other location only to find it closed and when we called the only number on the website to make a reservation (earlier in the day), no one answered the phone. We called multiple times. The guy at the door informed us the other location had closed and he couldn't seat us until 8 pm unless we wanted to sit at the bar. I asked to speak with a manager and was told there was no manager there. A restaurant should always have a manager or someone on site empowered to address customer concerns. We agreed to sit at the bar. First we ordered cocktails for $17 each. While they were tasty and refreshing, they had virtually no alcohol. I ordered the Kra Pow and, on the server's recommendation, chose the pork belly. My friend ordered the Pad Ki-Mao with pork belly. After waiting 30-45 minutes for the food, it finally arrived. Mine was dry pieces of pork belly, dry rice, an egg and three cucumber slices, no sauce whatsoever. When I asked for sauce, I was offered soy sauce and hot chili. My friend's noodles were tasty, but she also thought her pork belly was dry. The server, who was also the host and bartender didn't check in on us a single time during our meal. Between the outdated website, unanswered phone, lack of management and service, long wait and underwhelming food and drinks, the entire experience was extremely disappointing. I expected much more from this place.

GOOD! inspired by taco bell's baja blast hahahah). they TREATED us to all three of their current desserts on the menu. it was the most pleasant surprise i could've imagined. my favorite was the flourless chocolate cake! it was like a thick, rich brownie, had passion fruit cream to "lighten it up" and a caramel-like taffy on the bottom my brother and sister-in-law both said their favorite was the gulab jamun (which is basically like little fried dough balls/donuts, influenced by indian flavors and spices). the mille-feuille was also fantastic - the pastry was light and airy, cream wasn't too sweet and also very light, shaved cheese on top made it have a savory bite, and the jam alongside it was strawberry rhubarb. service is always amazing, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable; it seems like everybody working here truly enjoys it. quite literally already have a reservation booked at valentine and will be coming back here beforehand. update: came back for more drinks (fernet & coke, spaghett western, negroni) and their lamb flauta. all AMAZING! and amazing order to whet the appetite before dinner at valentine.

It tasted tart and like lemons. Not crunch. Soft ice. One thing though. The drinks weren't bad price. Average for tha area. The only thing is the bar tender made all of our drinks very strong. Most people think that's a good thing but honestly all I could taste was booze. I ordered a whisky sprite (7and7 spoof) and wow I could only taste whiskey. Every sip was booze booze and more booze. For the cocktails I wasn't able to taste any of the ingredients since it was so strong on the alcohol. Definitely moneys worth I guess lol. The bartender though was very nice and knowledgeable about all the drinks. Could explain all the drinks and the different types of alcohol. Not bad. Definitely would come back. Super cute for date night or a small gathering night out since space wise isn't huge.

I first came across Don Woods' Say When reading a Yelp article listing out the best rooftops in…read moreeach state. Don Woods was Arizona's pick. For quite a few months, I had it on my list to visit. I finally made things happen on a Wednesday evening for a drink. Located on the roof (of course) of a boutique hotel, I find free parking in the hotel's parking lot. While it was a busy parking lot, I was able to find a spot. Unfortunately, my night consisted of a comedy of errors. Ambiance (3/5): When you think best rooftop in the state, you're thinking scenic and peaceful views. Don Woods' certainly has that, though I've seen better in Phoenix. You can see the mountains in the background, but that's about it. The hotel is located on a busy street, where you'll often hear the noise of cars buzzing by or the train choo-chooing. Did I just make up a word?! I imagine the best time to stop by is during sunset. The outdoor area is relatively narrow with seating for about 20-30 people. It's a mix of comfortable seats and tables/chairs. There's also a charming indoor area, where the bar is located, but I felt like I had to sit outside. The weather was perfect, too. Service (2.5/5): This is where the comedy of errors began. I was given a menu and some water and was left to peruse the menu. Before the waitress had returned, I had picked out an appetizer and a cocktail. I then discovered that their cook had quit the other week and as a result, no food was available. That's fine and all, but you've gotta give me a heads-up when giving me the menu. That way, I wouldn't have spent the time to look over the food menu and get my heart set on a particular dish. On a better note, they have free WiFi. And service was overall friendly and pretty efficient. Food (N/A): While I was unable to order some food, on most nights, they have a small menu of small plates. More of a snack type of spot then a full meal type of establishment. Drinks (3/5): Don Woods is know for its cocktails and they have a list of 10 or so craft cocktails. Plus, beer, wine, and the typical options that you would find when there's a full bar. I feel like the bartender messed up the proportions on my cocktail as it was a bit rough. One drink and I was out. It seems like Don Woods' is experiencing some turnover which is leading to some mishaps. Combine that with some high expectations given the accolades they won, and it was the recipe for a disaster. I love a good rooftop bar, so I was hoping for more at Don Woods' Say When. Even the lobby of the hotel was experiencing issues. They sell popsicles in the lobby but the guy temporarily manning the front desk didn't know how to get their Square device working. Which ended up meaning no appetizers for me at Don Woods and no popsicles from the lobby. Two strikes. We live to fight another day.

Our food ended up at another table and vice versa. When we got the Mini Pizzas, they were very tasty and a great little snack between lunch and dinner.
