I drive a long distance to go to this restaurant even though I have at least 10 other Mexican Restaurants closer to my house because the manager of this restaurant makes a decision to use FRESH food and HOME COOKED beans and other fresh ingredients rather than a lot of canned food or left over ingredients. You can taste the difference in their food. It is always flavorful, always fresh. The service is very nice and the atmosphere is very fun and inviting. Their chips are never stale because they prep them early each morning and then cook them fresh ALL day long from scratch... not just one batch made in the AM and warmed over and over. It is worth the drive and makes me happy to have lunch there! read more

My daughter and I had the $9.99 lunch buffet one Monday. We asked the waiter if there were vegetarian dishes and he pointed out that one whole table was vegetarian. Black beans, whole pinto beans, plain rice, spinach enchiladas with green sauce, cheese quesadillas, another enchilada with red sauce, chili relleno "omelet"...tons of choices, all delicious. The non-veg table had tortilla and tostada shells. Great salad bar with mixed greens, shredded iceberg, shredded cheddar, jalapenos, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, and various salad dressings. There was a platter of some kind of cupcake. I believe there was fresh fruit also but we were too full. We had chips and salsa on the table and while we were eating, the waiter brought a covered dish of warm homemade tortillas. A real bargain. read more

We went for an early dinner after a long day of errands and appointments. We wanted Mexican food, and had a coupon for Puerto Vallarta so that was our choice. Sat in the lounge where a couple of tables were occupied by happy hour patrons. We ordered our drinks which came promptly with a basket of chips, salsa, and warm refried beans, and were given happy hour and dinner menus. We told our server we needed time to relax and chat before deciding on food. The house margarita was ok, beer was cold, and chips were warm. She checked on us several times, but seemed more interested in rushing our ordering than if we needed something. It was a bit annoying. Our server was checking back with us as a guest at another table was describing loudly and proudly his genitalia. Server seemed amused. We were not. We each ordered a second drink and decided to share an appetizer, the quesadilla, and a large combo platter. The empty chip basket was not replenished or removed, same with the tiny salsa and bean bowls. Odd. When the quesadilla arrived at the table it was large, came with a dollop of sour cream and guacamole, no salsa. It was chewy to the point of being tough, as if it had been microwaved. Not good... When the platter arrived without garnish or the rice and beans sides described in the menu we didn't complain as there was more than enough food, but again,it was odd. The food tasted ok and it was served hot, but it was mediocre. The server who had been omnipresent before we ordered our meal disappeared until we had finished to ask if we wanted dessert. We declined and asked for the check. We paid with a credit card and included the coupon, which the server would not accept. We spoke with the manager who also would not honor the coupon, explaining that it was not valid with specials, which included any happy hour items. I asked if he would apply the coupon to the regular priced entree, and was told no, because we had already been given a discount for the happy hour menu items. No, not true, we paid the regular happy hour menu price for those items. Again, a hard no. We paid the bill, minus our usual 20% tip, and left knowing that we won't return for a meal at PV. There are many other Mexican restaurants in the area with better food and superior service. read more

3 out of 9 of us had stomach problems (if you know what I mean) when they first opened, since then I have been dragged back 2 more times (no problems since). The food is a little pricey when you have to feed the family (4 1/2). It is ok in my book but not my choice for mexican food in the area. A family favorite. If you come to this restaurant and don't try the fresh flour tortillas, you are not allowing yourself to taste the best they have to offer. I have never been disappointed with my food here. Portions are GIGANTIC. Unbelievable that the manager wanted me to pay regular price for half the food of a plate and then wanted to charge more than the full price for substituting in another item. Man, I LOVE the smell of urinal cakes while I'm eating! We weren't even that close the the bathrooms and that's all we could smell throughout dinner. Speaking of dinner... They didn't take our order for at least 45 minutes. We asked for more time, after initially getting there, and they didn't come back for a long time. The food wasn't very memorable - sub-par at best. A friend of mine ordered cheese nachos and there was only a single layer of cheese on top. So, 2/3 of his chips had nothing on them. The drinks were weak (unlike many Mexican places I've eaten at in the past). The only redeeming quality about this restaurant was the salsa selections. Again, we tend to be pretty tough on Mexican restaurants because we've eaten at so many across the country. This ranking is actually a not to my hubby's dish. If just me, I'd given it 1 star. The Good: He had the chicken taquitos. Though he ordered them in corn shell, the were prepared in a flour shell. It's o.k. because he said they were actually the best he's had. The Bad: Because I can't get a good enchilada in the Northwest, I ordered 'Mexican Pizza'. The shredded chicken was in 4 big clumps, not evenly distributed. It was drowned in gloopy cheddar cheese. The shells only remained crisp at the very edges and the guacamole wasn't fresh. As for the starters. They were pretty good. The queso dip was among the better we've had in the area. We ordered the guacamole prepared table-side. They added green onion which was a different twist. Overall, the final product was more like guac meets pico de gallo - interesting and pretty good. The really different twist, though. was the final product was sprinkled with finely crumbled cotija cheese. read more

Giving 5 stars because it is our favorite in the Tumwater, Olympia, lacey area. The restaurant is spacious, bright, and clean. The service fast, portions huge, and food delicious. The chips come with a selection of 3 salsas and refried beans (different than the typical one house salsa that comes with free chips at Mexican restaurants). You have a choice of Mexican rice or white rice which was nice to see. You also have a choice of corn tortillas or homemade flour tortillas which was unusual, at least for the area. Did I mention they're making the homemade flour tortillas right in front of you at the entrance? This is our new go-to place. read more

To me, the best text of a Mexican restaurant is how good their bean and cheese burritos in sauce are. Sounds weird, but it tells you if their tortillas are homemade and if their sauce and beans are flavorful. Theirs are the best around. This is my usual Mexican food place. It's pretty good. Not THE best ever, but it's decent. If your craving Mexican food for a good price it's this place. Friendly staff, really nice and clean bathrooms (which is important to me, a clean bathroom means clean kitchen) and the food is always really flavorful. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Their lunch buffet is worth the visit. Sevice can be slow at times but the food is worth it.

I camed here last week for 1st time here. The staff was extremely friendly. The food was very good, and the margaritas excellent! We only ordered entrees, but salsa and chips were brought to the table, and then they came out with a sample of mini taquitos that were deliciuos. Food came out quick and was very good. When we asked for our check, they also brought out a free dessert of rice pudding and cinnamon pitas that was outrageous. 2 complimentary shots of pineapple tequila were then given also before we left.
