This place is conveniently located just off the freeway, right across from Walmart. Its open late 11pm, which I like. Staff are mexican, and they dress accordingly. The inside is very authentic, classic style, but with a perk! This is one reason I keep coming back... It has HUGE tropical plants all around inside the restaurant. It feels like a tropical jungle while sitting in the dining room. Its amazing actually, and greatly enhances the dining experience for me. Portions are HUGE, and service is very good. Beautiful restaurant, they have lots of live plants and the decor is nice. Their chips and salsa are also tasty as well as their margaritas. You can even get a REALLY big margarita if you're extra thirsty I wasn't overly impressed by the food though. The portions were big but It was a little bland in my opinion. Mexican food for Caucasians that know any better! First, the service staff is awesome, nothing to fault there. Food: the carne asada plate, which we had in the past, tasted like it was just brined in its own blood, left out then put on the grill for a few seconds. Tasteless beyond belief and irony tasting, no type of seasoning. The enchiladas in mole, too sweet, chicken again no flavor, just tasted boiled and shredded. A jar of Dona Maria's mole is way better than this. I hate going there, too pricey and only went there when the partner had to get her carne asada. This restaurant is a solid 3 stars. I had a traditional chicken burrito with black beans and rice, and my dinner companion had an order of traditional chicken enchiladas with black beans and rice. My burrito was somewhere under lots & lots of melted cheese. I peeled that off and found a flour tortilla filled with barely-seasoned chicken. Thankfully, I could jazz it up with an extra bowl of salsa, and that salsa actually was pretty tasty. One of us had a lime margarita on the rocks that was a bit fizzy (????) and had no discernible alcohol in it. Must say the server was nice, and the food arrived on the table super fast. read more

Their margaritas are good and strong. I ordered the Pollo Con Crema with flour tortillas (rice and beans on the side). The fresh tortillas were great. The salsa verde on the side was better than the salsa verde given to us with the complimentary chips (it had a lot of crushed chiles - too spicy). The service was ok. It took awhile for them to get certain items we asked for. The one thing that really bothered me was the smell from the bathroom when you are near it, specifically at the front entrance. It smelled strongly of cleaning products, like Clorox. It's not a pleasant scent to smell when you're about to eat! read more

The beef was actually thin stripes that reminded me of worms and not even close to the real deal, they were so small that it made them dry and overcooked. Puerto Vallarta has always been a favorite of mine, especially the Arroz con Pollo. Went there this afternoon with a friend and was sorely disappointed. First there was always four dips for the homemade chips, but that's been narrowed down to only two. My friend's Carne Asada dish was not as expected: the rice was old, clumped and the quacamole was half frozen (what????). My Pollo was not hot as it usually is, in fact the plate was luke warm (usually served HOT!), the rice clumply. Service was slow, no one checked mid-meal if all was okay and to top things off there was a kid screaming throughout the meal. It was just an altogether bad afternoon at the Puerto Vallarta. I don't think I'll be returning for a while. Maybe I'll visit one of the many Mexican food trucks in the neighborhood. read more

It was average, nothing special or notable about the food. Seemed like an average mexican chain restaurant to me. One difference might be the atrium and all the plants. Gave out a nice atmosphere. The wait staff was working hard and were friendly, although our waiter had a very thick accent and was hard to understand some of the time. Nice portions, we were definitely full and both of us were barely able to finish our plates. The music they had on gave me a headache at the end. Came here for the first time on a Sunday afternoon. Walked in the door and was greeted by a friendly hostess. Not crowded at all.... The facility was very large, nice natural light that shined through the huge skylight above the main dining area. They house a Cantina and another room that seems more suitable for private parties or quiet dining. But enough about the facility...THE FOOD (which is what you'll come here for in the first place) IS DELICIOUS!!! Apparently we walked in during Sunday Brunch Buffet. Which is not bad seeing as you'll pay about $13/per person for refillable soda fountain drinks and a Mexican Food buffet!!! Though since it was a first visit, my husband and I went with something from their main menu. Salsa and chips are provided. I ordered the Steak Tacos plate. I was not expecting the huge portions but was still delighted. Our waiter was very friendly and catering to any refills on chips or drinks (without being one of those annoying waiters who constantly bug you while you eat-- if you know what I mean!). Worth a try indeed. Bonus part, my husband and I had such a pleasant lunch, and in our check we were given a coupon for $5 off our next visit!!! Decided I needed a nice Mexican dinner. Ordered take out and went on my merry way. Unfortunately... by the time life's little road blocks allowed me to get to it, my "Taco" was one sided. The other side had turned to sludge. As with half of my tostada. And it was the best damn sludge I've had in a long time...wait...like ever even. When life sends road blocks, just grab something from Puerto Vallarta and a fork. Every last bite was heaven...I ate about 2/3 before I felt I was about to explode...but I couldn't stop.. every last ache, every last "over did it" pain... TOTALLY WORTH IT! I'm gonna do it again real soon. I'm just happy that the staff is so kind and they actually seem happy to see you! Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful restaurant. I started coming to this restaurant for its lunch buffet. However, when getting fit for summer, I order a salad and a side of shredded beef to stay in my Banting Diet/"Keto lifestyle"; I put the beef in the salad and top with house salsa and dressing. The lunch buffet at Puerto Vallarta tests my will power because there are fajitas and fettuccine Alfredo, which I like to put on top of Puerto Vallarta's homemade cheesy pastry. Nonetheless, when I avoid taco shells, doughy pastries, and noodles, I feel more in control of my caloric intake. My Significant Other is addicted to Puerto Vallarta's veggie chimichangas and queso---my SO also believe the refried beans and rice are seasoned. read more

Wow! Saturday night, the place was packed, could barely find parking. We were seated in 2 minutes, server took drink order almost immediately, returned with drink and took food order. Food arrived 10 minutes later (did I mention the place was packed?) I had super nachos (4 out of 5) and my S.O. had garlic shrimp and mushrooms (also a 4 out of 5). We love the bean and cheese dip for the tortilla chips. For dessert we shared flan (4 out of 5). The service was outstanding! read more

Went there for their lunch buffet and brought my 1 year old with me and I was charged for 2!!!! I tried explaining the waiter that was outrageous and I asked him to talk to his manager and he came back like 30 seconds later saying that I had to pay for 2, I'm pretty sure he didn't even ask , they wanted to pay for two even tho my baby was just playing with some rice and jello I gave him from my plate and they were claiming he counted as a person since I put the food I gave him on a plate, what were you expecting me to do have my baby play with his food on a the table !? This is very sad and disappointing that they're so money hungry and using low tactics to squeeze every little penny possible out of people , I haven't been back there since then and I highly doubt it I'll ever go back . read more

Had the worst experience at puerta vallarta... ordered ground beef tacos.. I dont know what I was thinking... the beef was old and dry.. like they had had it out for days.. I bit into the taco and almost gagged... it was horrible.. I ate half of the first taco and left the other 2 untouched. Servers grabs them when my wife and were finished.. did not ask about our meal or anything... we stopped going a here a long time ago and gave it another chance and it met my expectations after a visit or two... so unbelievable unhappy this a horrible restaurant... disgusting... read more

We ordered the guacamole appetizer and the waiter brought out a tray of condiments for us to choose to put inside and make it right in front of us! It was so fresh and delicious! Puerto Vallarta looks like and interesting Mexican restaurant. As we walked in the door, no one could be found. When the hostess finally showed up she acted like she didn't want to seat us. There was 3 of us. This restaurant is interesting inside to say the least. It is wall to wall old plants. Above and between the booths. Our table and napkins had plant " droppings" that easily blew off. The restaurant had an off smell like they needed a good cleaning. My margarita tasted like it was missing tequila. Like it was all mix. I had the beef enchiladas. They were plentiful but lack of taste. My daughter had the carne asada street tacos. They were also very bland. My wife's steak fajitas were actually pretty good tasting but the pieces were tiny. The enchiladas and fajitas came with rice and beans. Those were also tasteless. Meal (enchiladas, fajitas, street tacos, margarita and waters) ended up costing $80 including tip. Outside of the hostess, the waitstaff was very good. read more

Ate at this restaurant last night. Had fajitas for 1 and 2 beer and spent $40 before tip. The price was not as bad as the meal. The fajitas I order could not have had a third of a chicken breast. There were about 8 small slivers of chicken grilled with two pieces of pepper and the rest onions. To make the meal look better than it did they filled the plate with rice and beans. I understand money was lost during COVID-19 but with the recovery if this is the quality of product being put out you will not make up the difference by raising prices and lowering quality. This is just OK. I ordered enchiladas and forgot to say green sauce - did the waiter ask for my preference? No. I think they should ask. This place charges $1.50 each for guacamole and sour cream! So they have a "traditional" dish and then if the same dish comes with sour cream and guacamole it is $2-3 more. That's a pretty large up charge considering how much a tub of sour cream is. Husband ordered supreme nachos just so he could get sour cream and guacamole without having to pay extra. We probably won't go back. We were asked by several wait staff if we needed water, if the food was all right, so they were attentive. The enchiladas tasted fine and so did the nachos but we've been to better and didn't have to pay extra for items that usually come with Mexican entrees. It had no flavor or anything to make you want to be like "oh I need to come and get the enchiladas and taco combo". The plate my husband ordered was the chimichanga and taco combo. To say he was disappointed would be an understatement. The chimichanga was so so tiny and lacking any flavor completely. The taco again like the rest was completely flavorless. I tried to come here with an open mind since my husband was a local an raved about this place . He and I both were not impressed . My son's requests to try this newish Hawks Prairie joint were honored when we got a coupon in the "valuepak." The first thing I noticed is that it's HUGE - bigger inside than it looks from the street. It's too open inside, kind of cafeteria-ish and pretty loud. The first thing our very charming waiter noticed is that my coupon is only good Sun-Thurs. I guess the coupon is going in the recycling bin. Puerto Vallarta boasts "fresh, authentic ingredients." They had an employee posted near the entrance, making fresh tortillas. A nice touch was that the warm chips came with 3 dipping choices, including refried beans. They offer 2 different chile rellenos - a standard americanized one, and a traditional pasilla chile. So - the downsides. My relleno - though cool-looking and pretty tasty - was not hot. What's the good of a plate I'm not supposed to touch if the food is tepid? Our table wasn't clean. And overall, the food quality was just so so. Finally, it's over-priced. Before tip, it was $70. for a family of 5 with no alcohol, apps or desserts. Charming waiter notwithstanding, we won't be back soon. read more
