The location was recommended to us by friends who joined us for lunch. Apparently there was an event in Old Town with groups of participants drinking a lot of beer and they were the only ones being served. We waited for 45 mins before we had to track down a waitress just to get our drink order and acquire menus which she seemed irritated with us, that was the last time she talked to us before we left another 45 mins later as she gave us a snarky goodbye. It would have been understandable if we did not see groups of participants come in after us who were served and finishing their lunch as we were leaving. I would have liked to try the food which we were told is very good, but the kids we had were getting extremely restless, hungry and tired. Might try again if we see the place less packed, but if it is full, no thanks we will find an establishment with better service. read more

I stopped here for lunch because somebody told me it was good. They were wrong. I didn't really see anything I liked on the menu, so I ordered a burger medium rare with fries. My burger was more medium than anything else, but it happens so I don't complain. The meat however, was odd. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good and just tasted different in a bad way. It appears that the cook gets overwhelmed when more than 1 table orders. Went here last weekend with a group of friends to get a bite to eat. TERRIBLE experience. The waitress could not have cared less if we had come in or not. She actually seemed annoyed to have to wait on our table. The food was OK (not great) and our drinks came out slow or not at all. Decent bar in a good location. The drinks are fairly cheep and the staff are really nice and range from attractive to "Oh, my god! I just fell in love!" At least that's true for the female staff. Nice selection of beers and a diverse menu. We tried the pizza and I'm a fan of their unique crust! It's almost like a cracker with a flaky crisp bite. The goat cheese, beer sautéed onion option was unique and flavorful. The chips and salsa are a nice appetizer as well. read more

Pumphouse is one of the few places to go out to in Wichita, it is featured on the visit Wichita website (https://www.visitwichita.com/listing/pumphouse/26025/). HOWEVER, on a Saturday night it seems like we are not allowed in except if we have a Kansas state issued ID. That means my 27 year old self and my 30 year old husband were not allowed inside. We were armed with our passports (from Canada and France) as well as our valid US investors visa. I understand they scan everyone's ID for security purpose but being refused entry in a dive bar in the middle of nowhere is a little bit silly. That being said, the US Department of Homeland security granted my husband and I with a valid visa to work and live in the States BUT "Pumphouse" in Wichita, Kansas is refusing entry. Was staying nearby for several weeks for a work trip, and this place became one of my regular hangouts. They're open late (though not for food after 10), and the food is really terrific -- surprisingly good for a bar like this, honestly. Good beer selection. Service has been excellent every time I've been here, though I didn't go during the crazy Saturday nights. When the weather's nice, the outdoor patio is a great place to relax. The only real issue I've had has been the accuracy of the food orders. Over the past few weeks I've probably eaten here ten times, and EVERY time, something has been wrong in the order. They skipped (but charged for) the bacon on four out of five cheeseburgers I ordered, and got either the cheese selection or the side dish wrong at least half the time. It's something wrong in the kitchen's workflow, because the order is right on the bill, but never makes it properly to the plate. It's a shame, because it's one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever eaten -- absolutely killer beef and fresh toppings on a really good bun. The fish tacos were also spectacular, and I highly recommended them. Despite the problems with the food orders, this is definitely one of my favorite places in Old Town. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood. read more

We were staying at the courtyard across the street and wanted to give the pumphouse a try. First of all, our waitress Lisa was amazing. She was so kind, gave us her TRUE honest opinion of food and drinks on the menu and she was always on top of things! I ordered a bloody mary with extra olives for starters. It was good, nothing really to complain about. We ordered the black bean dip for starters. Honestly, I don't think i would ever order this again. It looked like a can of black beans dumped into a bowl with a side of cream cheese and jam. We were kind of disappointed. Lisa told me to order the chicken tenders with waffle fries because they were to die for. So, I ordered them. The waffle fries were so good. AND their ranch for some reason was also very very good. But, the chicken strips.... not impressed at all. They were super dry, very overcooked and just not great. I normally can finish all my chicken strips but I ate one and was finished. The reason why I am giving the Pumphouse a 4 stars and not lower is because of Lisa. If we ever come back, we hope to have her again. She was on top of her game! read more

This is our go to place for eating in old town. Menu has a little of everything which makes it hard to chose what to order. Very nice patio. I would have given 5 stars, but we had a very loud group next to us using offensive language which was never addressed. The food was very good. I had the black and blue burger medium rare. My partner had the fish and chips. We would have stayed longer to watch the hall of fame football game, but the offensive yelling and screaming obscenities was drowning everything out. You need to train your staff to address this. The table was sticky when we arrived. Sticky enough that when I had to peel the menu off the table to hand it back to the waitress she cringed a bit and said it had to do with the table top finish. The fish and chips I got were slightly above average frozen fish sticks. My wife got the tortilla soup, which was just chicken soup with a pack of oyster crackers. On August 17th I was at the Pumphouse and had a few drinks with friends and when I paid my bill with my Visa card and added a 17% tip somehow that got increase by another $2.50 when my credit card statement was received. Most people don't always check the statement against the actual receipt but I did and found this problem. Good atmoshpere. Never eaten here, always came for drinks. Drinks are reasonably priced. Watch out if you use a credit card. This rating is based on Pumphouse as a sports bar/restaurant. On Friday/Saturday nights it's more of a night club, so this rating does NOT apply to those nights. As far as sports bar/restaurant Pumphouse is barely average. If you like to hear the games good luck, their sound sucks, and a lot of the sound is with the tv speakers. Seating layout for game watching isn't good either. But worst of all is the food. I didn't know you could mess up pizza till I tried theirs, and everything on the menu is extremely basic and bland. Order a sandwich, and you'll get the variety mom used to pack in your lunchbox for elementary school. As a nightclub it's great, as a sports bar it's meh, and as a restaurant it's crap. read more

So this place isn't bad on weeknights. Decent atmosphere to go grab a drink and relax with friends. The bartenders are great at what they do and the service is spot on, on weekdays. The problem here though is that on Fridays and Saturdays I have been billed incorrectly more than a few times and at this point I cannot recommend visiting this establishment. At first I just shrugged minor issues off because the atmosphere is busy and I didn't mind paying a little extra to a bar that I enjoy. However, most recently I was billed an extra 25% when the manager and staff claimed that I ordered a ridiculous quantity of drinks when in actuality I ordered only a few drinks for friends, seeing as normally I am the designated driver. Of course a bar review only goes so far when you consider the environment, but honestly I recommend that you avoid this establishment on weekends, if not entirely. In addition, management will have "security" be the party to "dispute" the details with you if your bill is incorrect and you so much as try to discuss the itemized receipt with the wait staff. Buy a few drinks for your friends and stay sober to watch your bill climb higher and higher without even having to actually order anything, how cool is that? In summary: don't go here if you value your wallet or your safety; might be good for a study in the art of swindling. read more

Leaving 3 stars because I love this place, but we were there today for St Patty's and Regina helped us at the bar. I've been a bartender, and I know dealing with drunk after drunk is a chore and beyond frustrating. However, pumphouse was only our first stop and we were treated like we were the drunks that had been there for three hours. I did have a complicated order (not too complicated but I tried to be patient) We asked for 4 Vegas bombs, 3 vodka red bulls, and a vodka soda. And reiterated 4. 3. 1. We received 3 vodka red bulls, 3 Vegas bombs, and the vodka soda. I asked again for the 4th Vegas bomb (patiently and kindly) and got an eye roll and still received a vodka red bull instead of the Vegas bomb. We didn't want to wait any longer and just accepted it, but we're very unhappy with the service. If you are looking over reviews to determine if pumphouse is a place to check out, it definitely is, but Regina did not promote the fun and positive environment we usually get during our visits. Waited in line to get a drink for at least an hour. Servers drink the entire time and actually witnessed the shot girls stumbling around drunk. The place is filthy and packed with big guys with small egos trying to fight. Also was told the workers are in relationships together (very unprofessional). Great atmosphere and friendly staff. But ordered food to go which I thought would be great since this place is across the street from a very popular business traveler hotel. "Bowl"of chili was far less than a cup and the queso had basically no flavor. Just a worthless cup of melted fake cheese. Chips were good and service was great.
