They were able to do a walk in estimate the morning after my accident, the aunty that works there really knows her stuff. Decided to let them fix my car and so glad I did because they did it so quick! They gave me an estimate of 8days but I actually got it back in 3! They cleaned the inside of my car and got it looking brand new. They even bent my licenses plate back into shape for me (it was so buss up I thought I was going to need to apply for a new one). I have Island Insurance and Punchbowl Fender Works is one of two of their certified repair shops. The whole process was very smooth and easy. I drove in for a repair estimate, no appointment necessary. There was no wait, and an estimator came out to look at the damage, take pictures, and write up an estimate. I was pre-approved for repairs from Island insurance, so there was nothing else I needed to do but to drop my car off on the next available day. I took my car in on Monday, and by Wednesday morning my car was ready! Very quick turnaround time, although this is my first experience with a repair shop so I wouldn't know. They repaired part of my passenger door, passenger fender, and front bumper. Cosmetic only. Since this was my first experience, I was very nervous with the result. I have a pearl white paint which I know can be difficult to match, but the results look perfect. There was no overspray, orange peel, misalignment, nothing. It looks PERFECT. Since my insurance covered it, I can't really comment on the cost, but the service, speed, and results are top notch. read more

I needed a singed and itemized estimate of damage done to my front bumper. So the guy did it and wouldn't sign it! When I said "I need a signed & itemized estimate to make a claim with the State. Said nope picked it up and threw it in the rubbish can! So I told him give to me and he did. Attitude I tell ya! This review is long overdue but I wish to warn everyone about how these people run their business. I reluctantly gave a 1 star just because I couldn't post this review if I left it blank. I had to repair my front car fender and they fixed it UNSATISFACTORILY! There were major gaps between the front bumper and the hood and when I confronted them about it through the insurance agent, they told the insurance agent that the part was not in stock yet. Well why do you schedule my repair if you didn't even have the parts???? I'm quite certain that they thought that they can get away with it and that I would not notice the very visible gaps! So I had to return the car again a week later to get it repaired. It was very inconvenient on my schedule and work. When I returned it the second time, they didn't even provide me the rental car that the insurance agent promised... instead it was a beat up clunky car that has the engine light on and was making unusual noises on the road!!! Very unsafe!!!! So obviously I reached out to the insurance agent who I'm sure told them my complaints because when I was able to finally pick up my car... the lady who was at the desk did not even acknowledge me or say anything but threw the keys on the counter. I was appalled!!! I asked... "is that it?" And she turned around and left. Normally, a business should have some customer service but this business left me speechless!!! I also took my car for a safety check a few weeks later and found out that my horn wasn't working... when we checked into it... the wires were not connected back which was located by the front hood where I had the repair! Coincidence? Makes me wonder???? My advise... do your research first and read the reviews before you take your car to any shop.... even though they work with insurances doesn't mean that their good honest shops!!!! read more

Someone hit my dad's car, it was minor, but there was some damage to the rear bumper. Our insurance companies worked it out and gave my dad a list of places he could get estimates from. Punchbowl Fenders was on the list. Being that we live close, it was the most convenient place for us. My dad brought his car down & they gave him an estimate right away. Customer service is really good here & they do an excellent job! We've been to other autobody shops where the work was horrible. Punchbowl Fenders made his car look brand new again! They even waited for my dad to come pick up his car after their closing time. I will say that the prices are really high, but it's convinient if you live in Kaimuki & I can't emphasize how good of a job they do! Highly recommend this place if your insurance company participates. They're also accredited by the Better Business Bureau which is a major plus. read more

I'm surprised I'm the first review on Punchbowl, because they're always packed with cars. I've gone here for several estimates on different cars, and in the past year had the chance to actually experience their work and customer service. They do give free estimates, but the old man that does it is not very friendly in general. Perhaps it's because I'm young (and naturally so are my friends, whom I recommended here just because it's convenient) - but I was definitely turned off by the lack of customer service. Kinda ironic to think that they shrug the young drivers off, even if we'll be the ones driving for many more decades to come = more business. Anyway, onto the actual repair. Our car got keyed. The estimate was pretty high - $1400 to repaint the four panels on the driver's side, and just under $1000 for the hood. Insurance covered it with a $100 deductible on the comprehensive portion of the policy, which was nice. For all that painting (and money!) the car was done VERY fast.. In my opinion, too fast.. Just 2 or 3 days. We go to pick up the car and I immediately notice the door handles (which were not repainted) had areas around the edges that had been sanded down to the plastic. I pointed this out and the guy said "it was like that when we started your car" - I quickly corrected him and said that I detail the car myself every other week, and just detailed it the day before we dropped it off, and no, it was not like that. He disappeared for a few minutes to look at the pre-repair pictures, which is when he offered to refund the $100 deductible. OR I could have the handles repainted but he'd rather not because it's going to have to go back into the shop for a couple days. He did apologize and admit I was right, but attention to detail should be more important. I took the $100 refund. Why? It wasn't that noticeable, and I honestly did not care to have them take our car back into the shop. The color match is good, but this is why I know they rushed: the finish is dull in some places. As in, they didn't spend enough time on the clearcoat process. The clearcoat is still thick and it has not dulled any further, but it's disappointing. The car is 15+ years old but I detail it every other week and it is in MINT condition. People have walked up to us offering to buy it! I think the fact that the car is "old" meant that they relaxed their standards a bit, but this is purely speculation on my part. It's either that, or they just don't do a good job in general but another relative of mine took their car to Punchbowl and it looks great, so i know they can do good work. What it boils down to (my executive summary of sorts) is: so-so customer service, high prices, VERY convenient - they pair up with the insurance companies AND rental agencies, very fast turnaround (too fast?), and so-so inconsistent work. My other car got keyed a few months ago (don't ask me why vandals go after 5 and 15 year old cars; yes they're shiny, but they're just Toyotas!) at a shopping center and all I knew was that I was not taking it to Punchbowl. That's one good thing that came out of this experience.. At least I know where NOT to go and where NOT to recommend! read more

My car got hit on H1 by a drywall panel that flew off a truck in front of me to my left. I was in shock for a second than I was so mad! Why my car? I wasn't even directly behind him but the stupid panel hit my car head on. I couldn't believe my (no) luck! Anyway, it was a company truck so they had the logo with name and number on the side so I called and the owner was awesome. I initially spoke to his staff but he personally called me back and apologized and said his insurance would cover everything. The Island Insurance guy suggested Punchbowl Fender since it was the most convenient location for me. I saw the reviews here on Yelp so had some reservations about going here but I figured I'm not paying for it and my car is 10 years old so they can't screw up too bad. They were great from the beginning. Busy but still friendly. Gina was the one to help me at all points from the initial estimate, drop off, and pick-up. The insurance company hooked me up with a rental at Enterprise and that was great too by the way. It took 3 days but I had the rental so no prob. They called me around 3 to tell me the car would be ready by 4:30 but since they knew I had to return the car to Enterprise first, they wanted to give me a heads up and they said it would be no problem for them to wait for me if needed since they also close at 4:30. OMG, my car looked brand new! It was a little dirty when I dropped it off, with the drywall powder all over the car and previous dirt : ) I was a little worried that I might end up with a two-toned car since the damage was just on the hood and bumper. But the paint matched perfectly and they washed my car! I'm very happy with the end product! read more

I had a wonderful experience at Punchbowl Fender. Don't let the name fool you; Punchbowl Fender is Kaimuki on the makai side of Waialae Avenue, and not in Punchbowl. I own a 2007 Nissan Versa, and the bottom flap of my bumper nearly fell off and dragged on the road for a few days. I took it in and Richard quickly fixed it up and it's just like new! Richard was prompt, polite, and provided great service! It's clear that Punchbowl Fender is invested in the community and neighborhood, as their waiting room also featured a collection of short stories by a local writing group called the Kaimuki Writers Workshop. After calling 10 different places I had found on Yelp, these guys answered the phone and told me to come right over for what I needed and they could help me out for sure. I moved here from the mainland where it snows and turns out the screws on my rear license plate were rusted and could not be moved. I needed my new plates on. The guy who did my safety check at the chevron couldn't get them loose and sent me away to go find another place to help, then he'd give me my safety sticker for my bumper. I was running out of time (safety check is good for 30 days until you have to do it again). After a couple mechanics I was told an auto body place would probably do better. Well, i got all answering machines until these guys picked up. I drove there right away and before they could give me an estimate of how long or how much it would cost they got to work. I was like "wait, you're going to do it NOW? How long will it take, etc?" They told me replied happily and fixed it right then. Richard is the name of the guy they got to take care of it for me. :) I wish I could record this review to better help anyone understand how helpful they were to me!! I was hit by a car last August and the insurance company worked with Punchbowl Fender Works for repairs. Overall the customer service was unfriendly, the work done was poor quality (my trunk was replaced and a 1 cm gap existed between the bottom of my trunk and the car). After complaining to Punchbowl Fender they said this was normal, and after complaining and showing pictures to the insurance agent they agreed to fix it. Now less than 18 months since they did this work including installing a new battery for which they charged the insurance company $160 according to their invoice, my battery had to be replaced. I contacted Punchbowl about this, and Gina their rep gave me the invoice for where they purchased the battery and told me to follow up with them. They do not take pride and responsibility in their work. read more
