We tried the butter chicken-very good! And the chicken tikka masala-excellent! Plain naan is excellent! Garlic naan is dry and flat-I wouldn't get that again. Being that it's expensive for the to-go container you get, it would have been nice if each entree had come with a small rice -the rice was excellent- instead of us all sharing one container. Oh my!!! So delicious! Apparently this place has been here for a while but it's a secret. It's in the back of a big liquor store off the highway near a truckstop station in the middle of nowhere! It's only to go orders. Me and my kids love Indian food and we're ready to give this place a try and we were very happy we did! We had Butter chicken Aloo gobi Naan Samosa Lamb curry Veggie biryani Mango lassi We had our food spicy but u can ask for mild. Everything was delicious! I tried the samosas chaat, butter chicken, and chicken tikka masala. I also got garlic naan. The food was AMAZING! It was full of flavor and spices that awaken all of your senses. They are considerate and ask you what level of spiciness you would prefer as well. The mango lassi was a nice treat to wash everything down. Being able to get Indian food in a small town that's full of drive thrus and Mexican food is amazing. Can't believe I never knew it was there. Gonna be eating here a lot. There's a dude behind the counter sometimes wearing a blue pagri named Jag. He's awesome. Funny and charismatic. Good variety of alcohol if you're into that. This place is incredible. We stumbled upon it on our way back to Portland from Sacramento and were blown away by the flavor, quality, and spice complexity. Kind of love the added charm of its very unique location (back of a liquor store), and it's amazing convenience (right off of I5). We tried the Naan, Samosa Chaat, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Dal and all were really, really good - not just road food good, but good good. So happy we found this place! Lets face it - you are not looking for Michelin 3 star restaurants when you are on the freeway. You want good and fresh food! This place defines fresh food - the food was cooked after the order was placed and its been a while that i had such hot food. It was like from the oven to the plate. I've traveled to India three times, once with a group of students from the university where I teach. I also grew up near Corning California. We traveled there to visit family at Thanksgiving and wanted to take my Mom and sister somewhere for lunch the Friday after. I was very surprised to see this Indian restaurant in a tiny town like Corning. Apparently a group of Sikh's had settled in this tiny rural town along I5. The reviews seemed odd...polarized. 5's or 1's. I convinced my mother who's never eaten Indian food in her 85 year life to come with us. As soon as we sat, the waiter slapped down a few water bottles he'd obviously just bought from Safeway. I looked around and began to laughed. I got it... My family didn't understand what was amusing me so much, but I instantly understood the polarized reviews. So here's how it works... if you're looking for a typical American style restaurant, well-lit, nice decor, tables at least a little chic, lots of cutlery and ambiance. This is a 1 star gig.... and I loved it. Brought me straight back to India. The walls are "early cement." A huge portable fan blew air throughout the place making it impossible for us to talk. I asked the waiter if he might see his way to turning it off. "No problem..." We were then given a crumbly paper napkin and a large spoon. The waiter was impossible in the communication department. And as others have noted they did not have everything on the menu. No shrimp, for example. Far from being discouraged, I was energized. I anticipated the real deal Indian experience which meant I knew the food would be great. And I was right. My son and I had versions of Korma. My Mom and wife had versions of the Biryani. I threw in some garlic Nann bread and we had onion Baji, to start. They had Indian beer so we split a large bottle of that. (Forget it if you're serious about beer. ALL Indian beer is light lager somewhere between Bud and Bud Lite.) Not only did I love the food, but so did my picky son. My Mom ate up, much to my surprise, and my wife said she's inspired to learn to cook Indian.... So I say.... put a "pause" on your dining out expectations and live a little... try it. A good example of the 1 star reviews is christine c. here. I empathize with her and she's absolutely right about "ramshackle...." But, I'm tellin' ya... this place is Indian and they make no pretense to cater to American expectations of the dining experience. You can handle it. I hope they don't change a thing. Hmm how to rate this place. Ok the food was a 5 easily, although the naan was over dry and only a 3. We had butter chicken, pakoras, and a house lamb dish. All excellent! The service was hmm, ok let me explain a little bit. We're a white family of three, and I think we were viewed with some skepticism in this Indian restaurant for from what we could tell an entirely Indian clientele. That's fine though and something we're used to. By the end the service was great--so cheers :) The main issue is that the place was utterly beat and filthy in the front half which apparently doubles as a nighttime Mexican bar dive and club--replete with broken fixtures in the bathrooms and that unbelievably seedy atmosphere dive bars have in the light of day. So there you have it. Are you adventurous and willing to step outside your comfort zone for some authentic and very good Punjab cuisine? If so this place is definitely worth the stop. read more

Outstanding! Spicy Curry Lamb with garlic bread is one of the best meals I have ever had. Food prepared fresh. Family is from Punjab.

We went a bit out of our way to go to this place since it was 5 stars. Yes, a hole in the wall - former bar. The old sign is still up and they're even using the old joint's credit card machine as it came up as "High Five Roadhouse" on my receipt. The food was fantastic. Their Chicken Tikka Masala wasn't anything extra special, but their Lamb Palak was very enjoyable and had just the right amount of kick at medium spiciness. I dropped a star for ambiance and customer service. The fellow really didn't speak much of word to us when bringing items to us, no greeting. But while the service and building seems sketchy, the food makes up for it. Who knew Corning of all places would have tasty Indian food? It's worth checking out. read more

We were looking for Indian food on our way back from Crater Lake, and after much deliberation, decided to have dinner in Corning instead of coming back for it to Bay Area. What a fantastic decision it turned out to be. The food was amazing, chicken makhnai was close to or equally good as what you would get at Tandoor in Bangalore in late 90s. Tandoori chicken, fish pakora, garlic Naan, goat curry, paneer dishes, almost everything had authentic Indian taste. Great food, hopefully they maintain the quality. This might be the sketchiest looking roadside restaurant I have ever tried- but it was also some of the best Indian food I have ever eaten. We ate delicious butter chicken, lamb tikka masala, mixed vegetables, rich palak paneer and roti. Everything was on the spicy side, but we like spicy food. The restaurant was out of naan and raita, but did serve fantastic pickles. The waiter (and owner?) was very warm and friendly. First of all, if you are traveling through it's a fantastic alternative to fast food. The food seemed authentic (although I have not been to India yet, but I am a lover of Indian Cuisine). The spice and flavor was perfect and everything seemed fresh. Portions are large. Do not expect ambiance, as it is a converted roadside dive (there is still a bar in front-empty-but it was only 4pm). I am not giving it 4 stars for the decor and I am also comparing it to the choices on the whole drive from SF to Mt Shasta, so just know there is basically nothing great until you get to Ashland. To their credit, they are trying to add touches of India in the decor (which is nearly impossible with this building). The young Indian man who helped us was very nice. read more

My husband and I stopped at this restaurant as we were driving on I-5. At first I was a bit hesitant from the look of it from outside and inside but I was very impressed with the food. Good if there aren't other Indian restaurants within a long radius. Should've trusted my impression rather than the good reviews, but at least it wasn't absolutely terrible. Our requested spice levels were wrong, so I ended up with very spicy butter chicken and she ended up with tandoori chicken without spice. Tandoori chicken was very dry and wasn't marinated long enough. Ask for 4 individual naans, received 1 just cut into quarters. The rice was also forgotten. Overall didn't taste bad, but the extent of order error made this a poor experience. read more

Amazing food! You won't stop here for the atmosphere. Drive around the sleeping big rigs in the parking lot to a little brown building that says restaurant. You enter into what looks like an abandoned bar but immediately smell something amazing. You walk back thru to a little backroom setup as a buffet for lunch or order by menu for dinner.
