Thali option comes with 4 other sauces/soup, naan and choice of dessert Lamb curry: I could tell which was the lamb cause it was the only one with thick meat chunks in it and it was a bigger sized bowl than the other sauces. All the sauces were delicious! Super flavorful, Indian curry never fails. A little low on rice but luckily I had a side of naan to help with the extra sauces. All the sauces were delicious and creamy and thick. The white sauce had a green thing that I didnt like as much but thats like the worst critique I can give about the sauces. I think some of them were soups? I forgot. There was one notably more liquidy than the other sauces, that was one I couldnt finish cause there was a taste reminded me too much of weed, maybe Im paranoid. So I could probably drink them by themselves, but they all go great with rice and naan. My only real critique, wish there was more rice. With all these sauces, more rice would help, even though my belly is already filled to the brim Mango salad is fantastic, the pudding isnt like the prepackaged you see in stores. Its not solid at all, its more similar to a sweet creamy sauce. The sauce perfectly coats the fruit even when you lift it out of the bowl. Thick sweet creamy sauce was amazing. Naan was perfect, wasnt burnt, perfectly browned, crispy, golden, tasted awesome. Extra Cashier/waiter (same person) was nice, very indian, she thought I was finished so she came up, when I said Im gonna finish up, she said "take time take time". She also frequently came by to refill my cup Only other employee I saw was a guy (I assume the chef) who was the one who brought me my food Weird compliment, love the water, tastes fresh and cool. And doesnt have that weird taste that some restaurants have. Used to come all the time but recently went for the lunch buffet and you can tell everything sits the entire day unless it needs to be replenished then they just top it off. Rice was hard, either undercooked or overcooked/dry to a crisp and sitting, naan was hard and flat, veggies and chicken options all tough. As weird as it sounds I'd consider going if it were busier and knew items were being rotated out, otherwise you can count on eating the same food at 2pm that they put out when they open. read more

Priya is an incredible restaurant with the kindest owners. Not a lot has changed since my last review with them, which is great because they've been consistently fantastic. Not only have they maintained a delicious menu, decorated beautifully with decor authentic to the culture, they also maintain exceptional customer service. Since last writing, I've had three kids, two husbands, and gone vegan. My most recent baby is about half-made of their food I've eaten there so much. (Now, she goes with us and enjoys the dishes, too!) So, I've eaten there long and frequently enough to know there's literally never been a misstep in the quality, quantity, and deliciousity of the food. We've visited at 11 am, the moment they open the doors for the all-you-can-eat buffet to right before closing (dining through their closing time more than once). EVERY time the food is perfect and they serve us patiently without making us feel like we're burdens. To make things even more annoying for the owners, we're very discerning about what foods we choose to eat (damn vegans). Thankfully, Priya has ALWAYS been a safe place for us to eat. The owners never hesitate to share what is vegan on the (often half-vegan) lunch buffet or any time we ask about dinner options. I stopped to write this review today because, after years of fantastic service, I am so grateful for their kindness, yet again: We went to the lunch buffet, I intended to order the eggplant curry Thali dinner for myself and my husband would enjoy the buffet. When I asked to order the vegan Thali dinner, the sweet woman showed me all the vegan items on the buffet (lemon rice - omg, DELICIOUS, fried veggies, another entire cooked veggie dish, sambar, and more). I honestly just love their curry and wanted it, too. So I ordered a side of it to go with the buffet. They also offered roti, a vegan version of naan that comes with a thali dinner and wasn't on the buffet. The curry and roti came out quickly (both warm and the yummiest I've had) and I realized I didn't even need to order it because I'd already managed to fully stuff my face from the buffet. When it came time to go, my husband asked for a to-go container for the curry I ordered (I ended up saving it because of how full I was) and paid. After it was all said and done, I realized they'd only charged us for two buffet prices and included my favorite curry and roti - that they made specifically for us - in the buffet price. I asked if I could pay for the extras I ordered. They refused. Every time we go, there's some new way they surprise me with their excellent service. The buffet is great for parents with littles because you can walk in, eat, and leave. No waiting - even if there's a special order, like mine! I'd report how scrumptious the food is, but it - and their repeated Best of Chico awards - speak for themselves. Priya is hands-down one of the best spots in Chico. We stopped here for lunch on a Sunday while we were on our way out of town. I was craving some good Indian food and this place really did the trick. I had lamb saag a la carte, and shared some of my spouse's lamb vindaloo thali meal, which left both of us so full! You definitely get your money's worth here. The saag was very flavorful and the lamb perfectly tender, and the naan was super flavorful. The vindaloo was less my cup of tea, just because it seemed like a lot of potatoes and not enough lamb, but the flavor was good. And mixed with all the sides that come with thali, it was not lacking for anything. I honestly don't think I'd ever get thali for myself because it's just too much food. All really good though. I've placed large orders for 8+ people twice now and each time I waited 30 minutes longer than what I was told for the order to be ready. I believe the problem is due to Priya's opening at 11:00am which makes for a time crunch when an order must be done by 11:45 so that I can get to an account's office by noon. Atmosphere: the parking lot was full so I had to go down the street and park. The ambiance was that of the Indian culture. The buffet was small but it was the best value on the menu. Goat curry was my most exotic experience (I thought it would taste more like chicken but it tastes more like beef). While the tandoori chicken was great. The hint of flavor was not to strong like I've heard traditional Indian food is. The butter chicken too has a distinctive flavor in its after taste. My husband and I have been coming to Priya for many years. The quality of the food remains excellent. We love getting the full dinners that come on the large round platters. Definitely 5 stars. Suggestion, if you have kids, ask if they can lower the spice, was in my opinion perfect spice but was too much for our little ones, our mistake not piryas. Lo and behold, their mango shakes are still top tier, and they carry garlic and onion naan. I have cravings I can't resist for Priya's butter chicken Thali dinner with the gulab jamun (pronounced: goo-laab ja-muhn) for the dessert. I would describe it as kind of a donut ball (more the old fashioned donut flavor and texture) in like a sweet syrup. It comes to about $25 total if I'm picking up for takeout with about a 15% tip, more like $30 eating in with like a 30% tip (hey, I hate tipping culture too, but it is what it is right now in the U.S. Tip your service workers, people! Alright, stepping off soapbox). I also like butter chicken's variations that that use the same sauce: *shahi paneer - paneer is an Indian cheese that doesn't melt, the texture reminds me of tofu, the flavor is a bit more "umami" than tofu *malai kofta - which are little vegetable nugget discs, I want to say made with chickpeas, also very tasty. Thali dinner or ala carte? When you get an entree, you decide between ala carte or Thali dinner. Ala carte means you get just the entree, rice, and naan. Thali dinner comes with a bunch of delicious sides for just $5 more and I think it's so worth it. THALI comes with: *daal curry - split lentils cooked with spinach, onion, and tomatoes *sambar - thick lentil vegetable soup *vegetable curry of the day - I've never disliked it! Always super good and creamy *raita - homemade yogurt with cucumber and onion, so frickin good and refreshing and great for cooling your mouth down if you're somewhat weak to spicy *basmati rice - idk how they make their rice so much better than mine! *naan *choice of dessert - like I said, I always go with gulab jamun. My husband doesn't even like Indian food but when I convince him to go to Priya with me, he does really like the butter chicken. They have a lunch buffet, which is a great way to try a bunch of different things at once, so if you're unsure of what you like, try it out! I love eating in and getting the metal platter filled with the metal bowls of all the parts of the Thali dinner, but Priya is REALLY great for takeout. The food keeps really well driving from the location to my home 20 minutes away, and we've gotten delivery to the other side of Chico as well and it's always amazing. Leftovers are killer, and I always have leftovers here! I go here all the time, so why don't I have pictures? I always forget out of eagerness to eat! (Hands cover face emoji, but also drooling emoji) The only thing I've ever disliked here is their chai. They burned the milk.
