Ok... I have had a LOT of Indian food! Which is what Nepalese food is... mostly. Full of flavor and spices! YUM!!! Definitely something you want to try at least once! This is a small hole in the wall restaurant. They have some of the best Butter Chicken I've ever had!!! I've had a lot of Indian food from all over the Bay Area... in Sacramento and all over. This is definitely one of my top favorites! The customer service is awesome! The staff is super friendly and helpful. The inside of the restaurant is nothing special. It's all about the food!!! Ordered the tofu saag, dal makhani and chili tofu speciality. The first two were great! Asked for medium spice which was perfect amount of kick without sweating. Really appreciated the various tofu options. The chili tofu specialty could be easily skipped. Felt more like ketchup was tossed on top and the tofu was too squishy vs fried. read more

This review started out with two stars but by the time I got finished writing it was down to one. Maybe the most disappointing meal I've had recently. Yelp could not have been more wrong this time. Bottom line, food was not fresh and restaurant was not clean. Brown rice was crunchy. Cheese in panner Tikka masala was hard. Cheese naan was basically a quesadilla. A wheat tortilla overcooked and slithered with butter. My can of Diet Coke tasted okay, but then I drank the water. Something as simple as the water might well end up making me sick. It tasted like a dirty dish rag. Perhaps the container was dirty when the water was poured in. Or perhaps the container wasn't rinsed after it was cleaned with a dirty dish rag. But one way or another, the water tasted like what you would imagine the water at the bottom of the dishwasher tasting like. Imagine water that's a little bit salty with a little bit of a garlic taste to it. Service was reasonably fast and friendly. Parking is ultra convenient. But the place just doesn't seem clean and the food is not fresh. read more

Twas an interesting experience, from the somewhat desolate location and unique parking, to having my food boxed up in front of me and the server completely manhandling my naan into the to-go container. This is our second visit to this restaurant. First one was pre-covid and that was okay from what we recall, and I'm not sure if pandemic economic hit is a factor, but this visit was horrible. We ordered lentil soup, salmon tandoori, matar paneer, noodles, and momos. So quite a variety in the order. The salmon and lentil soup were okay - not great but not bad either. The noodles were awful - basically just noodles with a bunch of turmeric powder. Like an abnormal amount of turmeric powder. Totally inedible. The momos were not up to the mark for a Nepalese restaurant. We also had a side order of the raita which was just spoiled yoghurt. The cheese roti was a hit for the kids though. The service was sub-par, items arrived at random times. One part of the order arrived first, got cold and then the second part arrived, and this happened to multiple people in our party. To the server's credit though, they took off the noodles and the raita from the order, so one extra star for that. Disappointed that this is the only South Asian restaurant in the town. read more

This is a small location, the only place to find South Asian food in the area. Most dishes offered are Indian in style but there are a few Napolese choices on the menu. The restaurant itself is decorated with some items from Nepal. The choice of decor made the environment feel comforting as if you were about to enjoy a home-cooked meal. The staff was very friendly and was attentive to watching the progression of our food so we would not have everything come at once as common in this type of restaurant. We enjoyed the Vegetable Pekoras to start our meal with. Then our main dishes for the two of us was an order of Bhindi, Butter Chicken, and Onion Kulchha. My only disappointment is we had ordered everything as mild and should have said medium spice but now we know to order better next time. Ugh! I want my money back, in a nutshell! I love saag, I get saag at every Indian place I can. This saag was not blended. It was full leafs of Spinach in some orange sauce. That is not saag.... I also got the roti. Which is usually a fluffy wheat break, this roti was literally a Mexican wheat tortilla. 1.5 I'd say. Stopped by in June. I got food to go so I can only judge it from that. Pick up was easy, and there were a good number people in the establishment at the time. I had gotten the lentil soup, the fried noodles with extra vegetables, and something similar to a veggie biryani. The lentil soup was heavy on the oil, the fried noodles were cheap with flavor not cooked into the veggies at all. And the biryani was atrocious. Typically, there's a number of different spices that aren't edible used for aromatics and some earthy flavor added. Throughout there were chunks of these sitting in the dish. I'd never come back. Certainly not worth the price for something so sub par. I suppose at least it wasn't completely inedible so it can't be the lowest for me. read more

I am not impressed with the food and the overall experience. Went to this place by looking at the reviews and ordered the popular items ( as per reviews). Parking spots are for at most 10 cars oddly parked. I think there was staffing issue. We waited to be seated for 10 mins even though the place was pretty empty. Hub and I went out of our way to stop in this lil hole in the wall in Ukiah to eat at Taste of Nepal... It is world class!! Hub is Bangladeshi and has traveled and eaten Nepalese cuisine and different variations od Indian his entire life says so, and I who grew up with a mother who practiced Tibetan Budhism concurs. Hub is still raving about it... and he rarely raves about anything!! I read the reviews and comevon peeps...this is not Indian food...it's Nepalese!! We had a a fabulous veg samosa OMG , The chefs special Biriyani spice level 3, Butter chicken spice level 2 with brown rice, onion Kulcha and we shared a mango lassi and of course tamarind and mint sauces EVERY SINGLE THING WAS AMAZING!!! The Kulcha was WOW.... reminded me of really good NY pizza... very thin with crisp on the bottom and soft on the top... very fine flavor but needed no sauces at all. The veg samosa OMG both the pastry and the potatoes were so tender light and the pastry so crisp. The potato veg filling was flavorful but not overwhelming. The butter chicken was so rich and creamy I could only eat a spoon full of it and the Biriyani was POW full of flavor and a subtle taste difference in each bite ... and the lassi was PERFECT. The waiter was a young handsome Nepali who was gracious and kind, and when I sent a compliment back to his aunt ( I called her chef auntie) he told her instantly. If this restaurant was in my town it would be swamped every single day... I wish it was... no I dont' lol... I would never lose weight!! We stopped by the place coming back from crescent city. We were craving some Indian/ Nepalese food and this is the right spot for that. I'd say food is definitely flavorful but I wouldn't say it's the best so you'll satisfy your curry cravings. Dumplings/ momos with their sauce was best of all. After ordering, we were started with a complementary cup of warm yellow lentil soup, and my pick from the menu was the Himalayan Style Thali Special with lamb curry. The thali was served on a metal plate with salad, brown rice, dal makhani (made of urad dal and red kidney beans), and lamb curry (boneless lamb cubes in a sauce of onions and tomatoes), served along with a sweet mango chutney, a salty and sour hot pickle, and a dessert of gulab jamun! For my lamb curry, I picked a spice level of 4 out of 5, and it was plenty hot--the curry sauce and the dal paired perfectly with the rice and roti, and I also got a side of raita (yogurt mixed with cucumber, carrots, and herbs), which really helped to cool things down! Speaking of bread, we ordered the side of potato roti, a whole wheat flatbread stuffed with a layer of spiced potato, onion, and green peas, baked fresh in a tandoori oven! The bread was super chewy, thick, and perfectly spiced, making for the perfect vessel to scoop up the curry and dal! In addition to the amazing thali, I also tried the chicken tikka tandoori, which were marinated chicken breast cubes served on a sizzling metal plate along with onions and bell peppers. Like for the lamb curry, they did not hold back on the spice for the chicken either, and our waitress made sure to bring us a mint chutney and a tamarind chutney, which balanced out the flavors nicely! This was on our way up to Eureka. Although it looked like a hole in the wall don't let that fool you! We were wowed by the flavorful dishes. Nepalese food comes very close to Indian food. Travelled 90mins to eat here as we were craving for Indian type of food. We were served complementary Lentil soup and it was amazing. We ordered Samosa, Salmon Tandoori and Veg Chowmien. Samosa was awesome, as it was freshly made, infact everything was very fresh. Salmon Tandoori also had a good mix of spices as we expect in Indian food. Veg Chowmien I felt was bit on the sweeter side, but it was not bad. I would take one a star for that.
